Please have your boarding pass and travel documents ready. It's time to travel "Around The World In 80 Episodes". This time up, the Canadian Geeks are off to Italy. Widely known for it's delicious food, excellent wine but also for an enormous amount of amazing hard rock and heavy metal. Wallygator and The Meister deliver a long list of mind blowing Italian facts. More importantly they uncover some incredible rock and metal music. As always, the Meister shares tales of his globe trotting trips including watching world cup soccer at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, interesting plumbing issues and the lovely scent that permeated one Italian city. Facts about wealthy cats, volcanoes, artists' feces and some unusual laws kill some time as does a conversation about the most incredible fact about Italy! It seems they have a wine fountain that provides free vino for all!!! Did we also mention there is some killer tunes?
So a while back the Canadian Geeks devised yet another stupid idea to randomly select some music to play. Based on the Milton Bradley game "Battleship". The Meister's massive music collection plays the part of the ocean. Secretly, before the start of the game he wrote down the co-ordinates of the hidden fleet of battleships. Wallygator yells out co-ordinates attempting to hit one of the randomly placed battleships. Each co-ordinate uncovers one of the Meister's albums. From there they randomly pick a tune to play. Quite simply it's an excuse to drink and play some tunes. So far, Wallygator has yet to actually hit one of the Battleships but part 5 might just be day. Truth be told, he doesn't really care one way or another. His real agenda is to actually uncover some embarrassing secret skeletons in the Meister's closet. Abba? Beiber? Streisand? Yanni? His massive country collection? One of these days the Meister's secrets will be revealed via Battleship!
It was almost 4 years ago when the Canadian Geeks embarked on the "Battle Of The Playlists". It's a competition of epic proportions. The Geeks each prepare a 6 song playlist of songs that were released in the calendar year they are battling. Each playlist is played uninterrupted in it's entirety. Identified as simply playlist "A" and playlist "B". You the listener will have no idea which playlist was created by which host. It's all about the music and nothing to do with which host is better looking. Good thing because Wallygator makes a damn sexy David Lee Roth on the show's artwork this time! The rules are simple. Listen to the show and then head over to the our CGCM Radio Facebook Group page and cast your vote for the playlist you dig the most. This battle is #9 in the bigger war that is being waged. So far the score is tied 4 - 4 with only 3 more battles left to decide the Champion in this Decade of Decadence!
Tonight is the final instalment in our Top Albums of 2020 here at CGCM Radio. You have already heard Wallygator and the Meister's Top Tens. The DJ's at CGCM Radio have all produced their own individual Top Ten shows. So all that is left to do now, is to take a deep dive into the lists from the NON-DJ staff. With so many albums up for consideration this year, there is no doubt that the Canadian Geeks likely missed something. That is why the Team Top Tens has now become an annual tradition. Our team here at CGCM Rock Radio are as musically obsessed as Wallygator and the Meister. They volunteer their services writing articles, reviewing albums, photographing shows (when we had shows!) and assisting us with other tasks behind the scenes. We would not be where we are today without them and this show is just a small thanks to our entire team for all that they do. Every year they uncover something we completely missed!
Looking back at the year 2020, there is certainly lots to discuss and reflect upon. A year of challenges is an understatement. A year of political turmoil it certainly was. It was also, a year of amazing music being released around the globe. Grab a cold one, make yourself comfortable and join the Canadian Geeks in this annual tradition. Wallygator and the Meister dive in and countdown their personal top ten albums of the year 2020. It was reported by one of the CGCM staff that over 600 rock and metal albums were released this year. So a top ten finish is quite an accomplishment. Hours and hours of painstaking deliberation and bleeding ear drums have gone into each of these lists. Consider this part one of our deep dive into the music of last year. Please join us next week for part two as we deliver the Team Top Tens! Rock is alive and well on the CGCM airwaves.
Let's get ready to rumble! A battle has been raging for over three years and it continues tonight. It was the decade of decadence. The golden era of hard rock and heavy metal. A decade where the greatest music went mainstream and ruled the airwaves and charts across the world! In April 2017, the "Battle of the Playlists" began. The hosts secretly create a 6 song playlist of songs that were released during the year of battle. This time it's 1987. Both playlists will be played in their entirety. Identified simply as Playlist A and then Playlist B. You wont know which list belongs to the Meister and which on belongs to Wallygator. After the show you can head over to the facebook page and vote for which playlist you enjoyed the most. Your votes will determine the winner. Voting will close midnight New Years Eve! For those that are keeping score 1986 was taken by the Meister. Wallygator was unimpressed that he lost to a playlist that featured Europe's The Final Countdown. "Total cheeseball, overplayed rubbish" was his comments upon hearing the news. This victory moves the Meister into the lead with the running score; The Meister - 4 Wallygator - 3
The boys are back for round 4 of Battleship here at the CGCM Podcast. What is CGCM Battleship you ask? It is just one of the many idiotic ideas that the Canadian Geeks have come up with to randomly play some great music. In the Milton Bradley game (that was debuted in 1967), the objective is to fire blindly at the opponents navel fleet. Hitting and sinking all of the enemies ships wins the game. Wallygator calls out random coordinates in an attempt to locate the enemy ships. Each and every coordinate uncovers a different CD from the Meister's collection. We then play a random song from the selected album. In the first 3 parts, Wallygator has yet to locate a single ship. Will the Meister finally yell "you hit my battleship!"?
October is most definitely the most rock n roll month of the year. There isn't really any scientific proof to that statement but let's face it you cant add ROCK to any other month quite as effectively. June? March? Nope ROCKTOBER it is and the Canadian Geeks are here to celebrate all that is October. Over the years many, many great albums were released in the month of Rocktober. Wallygator and the Meister dig into some of these albums. Also Wallygator digs up some interesting rock and roll facts that went down in this, the tenth month of the longest year of our lives. As the pandemic continues to suck all the fun from 2020, we might as well curl up with CGCM Radio and grab an ice cold Trooper Beer and a shot of Cloven Hoof Rum and listen to a couple idiots fight and play some great tunes! Stuff like Motorhead, Hellsmoke, Def Leppard, Pretty Boy Floyd, Accept, Diamondhead and more!!
Wallygator and the Meister continue this week with Part 2 of their virtual trip of Sweden. There is just so much amazing music coming from Sweden that one episode was just note enough. So, the Canadian Geeks extended their visit. Be prepared! This was the second episode recorded in the same evening. Usually when this happens the massive quantities of beers usually kick in during the second episode. This night was no exception. As always the show kicks off with a couple of DITD tracks before diving head first into nothing but Swedish hard rock and heavy metal! You will hear another dozen killer tracks and learn that Chris Laney has his hand in almost all Swedish rock and metal. Wallygator breaks out some interesting facts courtesy of the new found website "Kick Ass Facts.com". Drunken ridiculousness and uncontrollable laughter follows. Sweden Part Deux...
It's another virtual trip for the Canadian Geeks as Wallygator and the Meister continue on with "Around The World In 80 Episodes". This time out they board the CGCM hot air balloon and set sail for the far off land of Sweden. As usual, the geeks take turns choosing music from bands that hail from the chosen country. As it turns out, Sweden is a flaming hotbed of amazing hard rock and heavy metal music. It was soon decided that there was too much music for one episode! Sweden would simply require 2 parts to even scratch the surface. Wallygator comes equipped with a crap ton of Swedish facts and the Meister surprisingly holds back from singing any Abba Karaoke and instead concentrates on uncovering some of the more lesser known Swedish hard rock and metal acts. Buckle up people, it's about to get loud!
B - 27! You sank my Battleship! The Canadian Geeks never cease to come up with weird and stupid ways to shoehorn songs into the podcast. This is actually one of the fun ones. In a play on the Milton Bradley board game, Wallygator attempts to sink the Meister's battleships. Instead of the game board he is selecting co-ordinates from the Meister's library of over 8000 albums. With that many albums it is sort of like finding a needle in a haystack but that's ok. It's not really about the ships, it's about the songs he randomly uncovers. Every attempt randomly identifies an album and then a song is played from it. You never know what might be uncovered. As we continue to live through the year of the Covid, we could all use a little musical distraction. With battleship you might get some classic metal, thrash or sleaze. On the other hand, you might get Abba, disco or even Christmas music! One thing is for sure it won't be boring as the Geeks return to actually record in the same studio! It's ok they now have CGCM Radio masks so it's socially distanced podcasting at it's finest!
Welcome everyone to the 116th episode of the CGCM Podcast. This week, the Geek’s resume the “Battle of the Playlists!”. This concept for this actually started back before the launch of the podcast over 3 years ago and it debuted back on episode #3. This week, Wallygator and the Meister battle it out for the year 1986 in the quest to crown a champion from the decade of decadence! The concept is simple. Each of the host creates their own 6-song playlist comprised of songs released in the chosen year. You the listener have no idea which playlist belongs to who. Which playlist do you like the best? The listeners get to decide the winner simply by voting for which playlist that they like best. Visit the CGCM Podcast Facebook page and cast your vote! For those keeping score, the geeks are now ties up at 3 each, so 1986 could turn out to be pivotal in this epic contest. You have only 2 weeks to get your vote in and help decide who will win the battle for 1986! There will be 4 more playlist battles and the grand champion will then be crowned.
The Canadian Geeks have come up with yet another ridiculous idea. It seems they continue to come up with ridiculous ways of selecting music to enjoy on the show. It worked out pretty well the first time, so let's do it again! In a spin off of the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” , episode #115 delivers SIX DEGREES OF HEAVY METAL PART 2! Wallygator came up with the idea early one morning. That lead to an expletive filled phone call as he attempted to explain the intricacies of how the episode would unfold. The planning for this episode would have made for very entertaining show in of itself. The concept is really simple. The geeks used Wally’s Ipod to randomly select the starting song. The metal gods randomly selected “Feel Your Love” from Van Halen! Thanks goodness it didn’t select something from Wallygator’s secret Banarama collection. From there each geek had to select a song that somehow connected to Van Halen's "Feel Your Love" From there Wallygator had to connect the Meister‘s selection and the Meister had to connect Wallygator‘s. The process continues until there were 12 songs all interconnected. They kept their “connections” a secret and were revealed during the recording. How does Autograph's "Turn Up The Radio" connect to Vince Neil's "Your Invited But Your Friends Can't Come" ? You will soon find out right here.
Time to go around the world! Well, not exactly. In fact, we can't really go anywhere as we continue to deal with the various lock downs of the global pandemic. Ain't no Covid going to stop the Canadian Geeks from delivering another episode. It's been a while since they went to China. Next up? The United States Of America! Part TWO! Land of the free, home of the brave. The land of milk and honey and the home of the American dream. It's time to turn the spotlight on the music from the good old U.S. of A! Since there is simply an insane amount of hard rock and heavy metal music from America, the boys decided to crisscross the US somewhat methodically. They split the States in half alphabetically. This week they swapped sides alphabetically. The Meister had to pick 6 bands from 6 different States, but this time from the back half pf the alphabet (Montana - Wyoming). Wallygator had to select his 6 from the opposite side, (Alaska - Missouri) again avoiding the States that the Meister picked in part 1. At the end a total of 24 different States have been represented here in Around The World In 80 Episodes. So grab an ice cold Trooper Beer (you didn't expect us to drink American beer did you?) and kick back with some American Metal!
Welcome everyone to CGCM Radio. Yes we just said RADIO! Episode #111 of the CGCM Podcast is the first ever episode to be broadcast on your new favourite radio station. CGCM Radio - "What Rock Radio Should Be". The Canadian Geeks deliver a radio themed episode each selecting songs that either contain the word radio in the title, or at the very least have a radio theme. The Meister took this exercise literally. He actually came up with six songs all titled simply, "radio". I suppose and explanation is in order here. Sometime back in mid March the Meister came up with the insane idea of CGCM Radio. He called Wallygator who upon hearing the idea responded with, "are you fucking high?". After some laughs they decided to actually take a serious look into what exactly was involved in starting their own station. They then brought the idea to the staff at www.cgcmpodcast.com to see if any of the writers wanted to be involved in being a part of the station. Wallygator and the Meister thought that if 2 or 3 of the staff came on board then CGCM Radio might just be doable. They were met with overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the team. They got to work behind the scenes and put together a master plan. While the world was in a state of lockdown watching Tiger King, the Canadian Geeks were building a radio station. They set the launch date of June 1st and they toiled away. Many hours, late nights and lots of beers later CGCM Radio - What Rock Radio Should Be was born. 3 Ways you can listen to CGCM Radio Go to http://www.cgcmpodcast.com click play on the embedded player near the top of the page and crank it up! The Canadian Geeks have come up with yet another ridiculous idea. It seems they continue to come up with ridiculous ways of selecting music to enjoy on the show. In a spin off of the "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" , episode #110 delivers SIX DEGREES OF HEAVY METAL! Wallygator came up with the idea early one morning. That lead to an expletive filled phone call as he attempted to explain the intricacies of how the episode would unfold. The planning for this episode would have made for very entertaining show in of itself. The concept is really simple. The geeks used Wally's Ipod to randomly select the starting song. The metal gods randomly selected "Mean Streak" from Y&T! Thanks goodness it didn't select something from Wallygator's secret Banarama collection. From there each geek had to select a song that somehow connected to Y&T's Mean Streak. From there Wallygator had to connect the Meister's selection and the Meister had to connect Wallygator's. The process continues until there were 12 songs all interconnected. They kept their "connections" a secret and were revealed during the recording. How does UFO connect to Kiss's Crazy Nights? You will soon find out right here.
Back to back Riot Radio anyone? As another week of isolation, social distancing and cancelled concerts at least we have the CGCM Podcast. Wallygator takes the DJ seat for an hour's worth of hard hitting rock and metal. That is until he dumps a set of syrupy rock ballads to simply annoy his co-host. Welcome to episode #109 of the CGCM Podcast and volume 23 of the Riot Radio series. During this episode Wallygator reveals that he had no plan, theme or message to this week's show. Looking at the tracklist however, we are not so sure that he isnt trying to tell us something.
With the Covid-19 Lockdown still in full effect, the Canadian Geeks have decided to look back at a year full of fun and frivolity. Yes they are referring to 1985 and the halfway point of what is widely referred to as the Decade if Decadence. Hard rock and heavy metal had exploded into the mainstream. The “kids” were buying the music, growing their hair and slipping on their spandex. MTV and the Radio charts were clamoring to share the newest Def Leppards and Ratts and WASPs. It was a wonderful time to be getting into rock music. This week’s episode has the Geeks resuming their big battle of the Playlists. If this is your first Battle episode, the concept is simple. You will hear not one but two “6” song playlists in their entirety. All of the music played within was all released in the year 1985. After listening to BOTH lists it is up to you to decide which 1985 Playlist is the BEST!” There is no right or wrong, simply which playlist you felt kicked ass! The fun part is, you don’t know going in which playlist belongs to the Meister and which one is Wallygator’s. The vote is completely blind. Just like the Meister’s mother always warned him would happen if he didn’t stop..... Anyways, to record your vote we have made it super simple. Head over to our Facebook page, look for this exact episode and a “pole” link is all set up and ready for you to enter in your vote. The boys have been battling out each year and so far the results are as follows, 1980 - Wallygator 1981 - The Meister 1982 - Wallygator 1983 - The Meister 1984 - The Meister Without sports to stoke your competitive fire, you can help us determine the winner for the best 1985 Playlist! So far the Meister has a 3-2 lead in the Decade Of Decadence battle. So you can stop betting on racing marbles on you tube and put your votes behind “Battle of the Playlists” You can only vote once and voting ends Thursday May 21st at midnight EST.
You have heard all of the "Covid" pep talks. We're all in this together, flatten the curve, yada, yada, yada. You have binge watched everything on Netflix, organized your closets, re-grouted the bathroom and now what? How about an ice cold beer and a brand new episode of Riot Radio here at the CGCM Podcast? This week Wallygator jumps into the driver's seat delivering the rock! The inspiration for this week's show came from "shuffle play" on Wallygator's Ipod. During a recent walk Motley Crue's Red Hot was providing the entertainment. It was then that fate intervened. The very next song to assault the eardrums was also Red Hot but this time from Shotgun Messiah. Two completely different songs sharing the same name. This got Wallygator to thinking about some other songs that share the same moniker. Scrolling through the music found within the Ipod the music for this episode took mere moments to come up with. Turns out song titles have been reused, recycled, repurposed and reused again. A dozen songs comprised completely of pairs and even triplets of same name songs and they all start with the letter "R"!
Join the Canadian Geeks as they head out to the "Land Of The Dragon". That's right, it's time for another episode of "Around The World In 80 Episode - China". Obviously we don't really visit China. We aren't even allowed to leave the house as the world remains under pandemic lock down. The "Around The World in 80 Episodes" remains one of our most popular themed shows. That in mind, the Canadian Geeks were not about to let social distancing rain on their parade. As mentioned on CGCM episode #101, the show must go on! Wallygator and the Meister leave no stone unturned and uncover a dozen choice heavy metal songs from China. This was no easy feat. Usually this is the most fun of assembling the Around the World episodes but both hosts had quite a struggles. They located some cool music, but a very hard time finding out facts and information about the bands they found. As it turns out, Facebook and other forms of social media are banned in China making such research somewhat difficult. As usual, Wallygator plays the role of tour guide providing an array of facts and details about this far away and mysterious land. The biggest bombshell is that fortune cookies are NOT a Chinese tradition and actually came from San Francisco?!? The music they found is definitely the star of the show. Eye Of Storm, Hell Saviour, Silver Ash, Jacky Danny, Yaksa are just a few of the bands featured. It was revealed that China seems to be very big on Death Metal and other metal sub genres that don't normally mesh with the tastes of the hosts. That said, the music uncovered for episode #105 is certainly CGCM worthy and a few gems were definitely uncovered. Grab your headphones and crack open an ice cold bottle of "Tsingtao". If you can't find this Chinese beer, may we recommend some of the fine brews over at Black Oak Brewing and enjoy a virtual visit to China and experience some new heavy metal with us.
Need a distraction from the constant barrage of Covid-19 news? The CGCM Podcast's Wallygator can assist with a brand new episode of Riot Radio. If this happens to represent your first Riot Radio, welcome! The Riot Radio concept: Every other week (or thereabouts) CGCM brings you a podcast episode with less talk and more rock. Terrestrial radio has become homogenized. Satellite radio falling to the same fate. Remember the days when radio played bands like Helix and AC/DC etc and not just the hits, but deep cuts and new music? How about a brand new band? One that you’ve never heard before, perhaps even a foreign band? Miss those days? Well, CGCM is bringing them back! That’s what our Riot Radio is all about! The co-hosts take turns each week in playing solo DJ to spin some great Hard Rock/Metal music that you may be unfamiliar with and we feel needs to be showcased. You know…how terrestrial and satellite radio SHOULD be! This time out, Wallygator is dedicating the episode to any new listeners that are tuning in to us from Dazed Rock Radio. Stoked to be a part of this great new station, he cue's up a dozen or so "ALL CANADIAN" hard rock and heavy metal. A fantastic playlist of both old and new to distract you from the world. So grab yourself an ice cold beverage. We highly recommend something from Black Oak Brewing. Put your feet up and enjoy some metal from the Great White North!
It was supposed to be a monumental celebration of epic proportions. March 26, 2020 was supposed to mark the 100th episode of the CGCM Podcast. The Canadian Geeks were stoked to record this historic moment from the tap-house of their newest sponsor, Black Oak Brewing. There was going to be metal! There was going to be cake! Best of all there was going to be BEER! As preparation for this centennial party were coming together, things were about to change. Like nothing we have ever witnessed, Covid-19 has effectively shut down our entire world. NBA, cancelled. NHL, cancelled. MLB, cancelled. Concert tours and festivals are dropping like flies. Self-Isolation, quarantines and social distancing are the catch phrases for 2020. CGCM Podcast From Self Isolation The Canadian Geeks called an emergency teleconference meeting. With the Meister in quarantine, the geeks were unable to even be in the same room together. After much deliberation, our 100th Episode was cancelled. When we announced this via a Facebook Post we had quite a number of private messages concerned that we were pulling the plug on the show. This was not the case. In fact, quite the opposite. Our conversation actually revolved around how much more important podcasts are at this difficult time. We just decided that we were not willing to compromise our big 100th episode party in any way, shape or form. As a result, we are simply skipping our 100th show. When this mess is over we will circle back and throw the party you would expect from us. Did we mention there would be BEER? The Show Must Go On! Welcome everyone to the 101st Episode of the Canadian Geeks Chatting Metal Podcast. The Meister and Wallygator deliver their most serious episode yet as they tackle the current world situation. Between the rants, stories and warnings they manage to squeeze in bunch of great music to help you forget about life for a while. Now does anyone have some extra toilet paper?
Canadian Thunder! An episode 35 years in the making, well sort of. It was 35 years ago when two young Canadian Geeks raised their metal horns and screamed..."the Right to Rock! Sometime in 1985, Keel (the band) managed to head North of the border and played one single show at the legendary Rock n Roll Heaven club here in Toronto. Unfortunately 15 year old Wallygator and a 13 year old Meister were much too young to attend an alcohol serving establishment. The band never made it back up to the Great White North. This was of no consequence for the ever travelling Meister, who has managed to catch Keel live many times. For Wallygator he remained patient and began annoying Rockpile promoter Steve Hoeg. Every time Steve would tease about a new show, without fail Wallygator would immediately fire back with "Ron Keel Band?" I am doubtful this had anything to do with the announcement of this summer's RON KEEL BAND mini Canadian Tour, but upon the announcement, Wallygator received the following message. "I hope you will finally shut the f*#! up" - Steve Hoeg. After 35 years, Ron Keel is coming back to Canada! Bucketlist? Check! Ron Keel called in to the CGCM Podcast studios to update us on the tour and all things Keel. They discuss what to expect when the Ron Keel Band rolls up to Canada in August. Also discussed are his brief moment as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, the upcoming South X South Dakota Southern Rock album and his post Keel band "Fair Game" that never got off the launching pad.
It's back to back Riot Radio episodes from the CGCM Podcast! The Meister took off on one if his million vacations so the Geeks planned out a couple of Riots to keep you tied over until regular programming resumes. This week, Wallygator is in the driver's seat providing the soundtrack to whatever it is you are doing right now. Using the "Russian roulette" method he lets the Ipod be the program director. It's pretty much foolproof when the Ipod contains thousands of quality hard rock and heavy metal. Sleaze, Classic, Thrash, Glam, Pop, Doom, Speed, you never know what your gonna get but it will likely rock!
Welcome everybody to another episode of Riot Radio. Let's face it mainstream radio continues to spin the same 15 - 20 songs over and over and over again. There is a choice! The Canadian Geeks are here to shake things up. No rules, just program directors dictating the music. Unlike our normal episodes, Riot Radio is more rock, less talk. Some of our listeners prefer this format. This could be construed as insulting but we kind of like it too! Wallygator jumps into the DJ booth to spin a dozen tracks guaranteed to to ROCK! What's in store? You get some Metallica, a double shot from Jim Breuer and the Lowd and Rowdies! Some Canadian rock from the Trews, a double shot from Mr. Ron Keel... A killer track from a brand new band called Storm Force, which Wallygator makes a bold prediction. Throw in some Volbeat, Queen, Heaven and Hell and the much maligned Nickelback and you get a pretty great hour of rock n roll! Oh and Wallygator shares with you his brand new favourite song from Massive Wagons...
The Canadian Geeks are back with 2019 Year In Review - Part 2 Writers Edition. With an entire team of writers and photographers now in place team CGCM is now global. In true geek fashion, they compiled their own top ten lists from the past year. Amazing lists at that! So this week Wallygator and the Meister dive headfirst into each of the writer's submissions. They discuss, dissect and run through each list. Best of all they each select and play one song each from each and every writer. What you end up with is nine double shots of some of the best of 2019. Eighteen songs representing the selections of our amazing staff. As promised we also bust a few balls, question the musical tastes of some of our staff. We also discovered that Whitesnake's new album completely missed the radar of both Canadian Geeks. In all seriousness, the Meister and I would like to thank Trevor "Psychoone" McDougall, Adam "Coxy" Cox, Dave "Andy Travis" Wood, Mikael Svensson, Tom Cornell, Andy "Maddog" Lafon, Brian Ronald, "Sparky" and Shawn "Animalize" Irwin for their amazing top ten lists. We had a blast listening to the music that knocked your dicks in the dirt in 2019.
Another year has come to an end and another decade has begun. Welcome one and all to the roaring METAL 20's! Now before we get ahead of ourselves, it's time to look back at the year that was. The year that rocked. The year of 2019. Putting together our year in review top 10's is always a labour of love. Scouring through all of the amazing albums that were released over the past twelve months is always a fun task. For the Canadian Geeks, it means hours of listening to music and agonizing over each and every position placement. I know, it's only rock n roll but we take these lists very seriously. If even just one of our listeners is inspired enough to go check out and purchase some of our top 10 albums then this is important work indeed. So the time is now. Open your ears real wide and listen as the Wallygator and the Mesiter unveil each of their personal top tens for 2019.
It's time for another Riot Radio episode of the CGCM Podcast. This time it's Wallygator's turn to jump into the cockpit and tickle some earholes with selections from the CGCM's musical medicine cabinet. Welcome one and all to Russian Roulette Riot Radio! Instead of actually taking the time to personally select some music and researching some interesting facts to share with the listeners, Wallygator instead has decided to play "Russian Roulette" and let the shuffle play options select all of the music for this episode. What could go wrong? This will either turn out to be the best Riot Radio show ever or possibly a complete disaster. After all, if truth be told you just may find Bon Jovi's "This Left Feels Right" within Wallygator's Ipod. You've been warned!!

Co-host Rich “The Meister” Dillon is widely known for his globe-trotting rock and roll adventures. Enter the Meister’s Travels series, which technically began some episodes back with our Call of the Wild, or Sweden Rock, HRH Sleaze III, even the Rocklahoma and Hair Metal Heaven podcast episodes. In any case, here he is once again freshly returned from HRH XIII to tell co-host Wallygator and you the listener all about the event. Of course, he spins some awesome music from those bands that played too. Welcome to CGCM Podcast EP#82-Riot Radio Vol. 11-HRH XIII (Meister). Rich "The Meister" Dillon here guiding you through this installment of CGCM's Riot Radio theme of episodes. Just a bit over a week ago, I was once again off in the world attending a rock and roll event. This time my travel saw me back in the UK to the coastal village of Great Yarmouth for Hard Rock Hell or HRH. I’ll do my best to recap some of those experiences and band performances here as I tell Wallygator all about it. Welcome everyone to the next episode of the Canadian Geeks Chatting Metal Podcast! Tonight’s episode is entitled “Never Have I Ever”. It’s basically one of those stupid Facebook things that often make the rounds online. The Geeks somehow figured a way to spin this into a full podcast episode, complete with dicks in the dirt and a healthy dose of quality metal. Along the way, you will learn many things that the Meister and Wallygator both have and have not done. Prior to jumping in you will get quite possibly the longest tangent every told on the show. Best enjoyed highly intoxicated, so break them out early! It involves drunken craziness, Hollywood, red carpet movie premieres and a little more drunken craziness. From there the Canadian Geeks work their way through one of the "Never Have I Ever" lists and comparing notes along the way. You will find out riveting information about the hosts including...Has either host broken a bone?, skipped school?, gone skydiving? Which host has been zip lining? Who fired a gun? Ridden a horse? Skuba Diving? You will find out these and more. Beer is consumed and the boys even figure out a way to include some kick ass hard rock and heavy metal tunes that tie in perfectly. So go to the fridge, grab yourself a 6-pack and we will meet you back here. As always the CGCM Podcast goes better with beer.
"GO DUNK". It's time for another episode of the Canadian Geeks Chatting Metal Podcast! This week this hosts sit down for a chat with very special guest, Darrell "Dunk", "Dwarf", "Darnell", "the Rock n Roll Pirate" Millar. When Darrell is not pounding drums with the KiLLeR DWaRfS or singing vocals with Automan, you might just find him tapping away at a keyboard. It seems he has now added "Author" to his impressive resume. His first book "Guardian of a Time Keeper" is now available. Not exactly a typical Rock n Roll biography, it seems that our Rock n Roll Pirate has had more than his fair share of "near death experiences". Guardian of a Time Keeper is a collection of these near misses in graphic detail. All told with the all too familiar Dwarf sense of humour. Darrell has survived multiple near drownings, horrific automobile accidents, fires, natural disasters, terrible falls and being interviewed by the Canadian Geeks! The Meister and Wallygator dive into the book but also take some time discuss the Dwarfs, Automan, his connection to Steppenwolf, Laidlaw, Kick Axe and parenting in today's world. Most importantly the CGCM Podcast is given an exclusive. Listen in as Darrell tells the abbreviated but very entertaining story of how he ended up with the nickname "DUNK"! It's an hour of stories, lots of laughs and some fantastic music including the brand new Automan track, "Street Urchin"
The CGCM Podcast is proud to unveil a new recurring theme for their audio podcast episodes! Co-host Rich "The Meister" Dillon is widely known for his globe-trotting rock and roll adventures. Enter the Meister's Travels series, which technically began some episodes back with our Call of the Wild, or Sweden Rock, even the Rocklahoma and Hair Metal Heaven podcast episodes. In any case, here he is freshly returned from HRH Sleaze III to tell co-host Wallygator and you the listener all about the event. Of course, he spins some awesome music from that bands the played too. It's always sad at the end. But it is upon me. My time at my first Hard Rock Hell event, HRH Sleaze, is winding down. Overall it was a fantastic experience. The venues, the bands, the people. While, I did not see every performer, not one that I did see was off their mark. Even one of my most hated bands in the world delivered a set that held me in trance. A part of the Hard Rock Hell family, HRH Sleaze III, is as you guessed, the third installment of the annual festival. It takes place in Sheffield, UK and the lineup for 2020 is already announced with still more to come! The Hard Rock Hell organization presents many festivals throughout the year, this HRH Sleaze III being my first, but not my last. Next up is HRH Punk followed by the original HRH.I'll do my best to recap some of those experiences and band performances here as I tell Wallygator all about it. Take a listen to CGCM Podcast Episode #75-HRH Sleaze III featuring songs from many of the artists and interviews with two of the best bands all weekend!
It has been a while since the Canadian Geeks recorded a KISS themed episode. During a recent strategy meeting at a remote Northern Ontario location (Wallygator’s Cottage), the hosts decided this was long overdue. There was a problem though. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of Kiss podcasts out there. Pretty much KISS related topic has been done before. They decided they had to come up with something unique and original. Something that KISS fans world wide would stop and say “This is Awesome”!!! Then as usual, Wallygator and the Meister consumed vast amounts of alcohol and started one of their “all too common” arguments. This one was which album was superior? 1985’s Asylum or 1987’s Crazy Nights. After some heated banter and a number of insults thrown back and forth Wallygator exclaimed that this just might make a good podcast. Probably not his most original idea, but then again he was somewhat intoxicated. Knowing full well that both hosts would simply butt heads on the topic, they knew an impartial third party would be required. A “mediator”, “referee” or simply a “sober” set of ears to act as the swing vote when necessary. Enter www.cgmcpodcast.com writer Trevor “Psycho One” MacDougall. 80’s Kiss was a very polarizing time for KISS fans. The non-makeup years provided some amazing albums and tours. Not all KISS fans came along for the ride and unfortunately (for some of us) the reunion came along to end this chapter of the band's history. Only a small handful of songs would move forward into the setlists of the tours that followed. For those of us that discovered Kiss in the 80’s and proudly carried the torch through these glorious years, it seems a shame. An entire decade of music all but ignored.Ignored but never forgotten. We love 80’s KISS and we decided to start with 2 of the more “maligned” Kiss albums. Which album comes out on top? You will have to listen to find out. As you would expect, there are lots of arguments, insults and thanks to Trevor some actual facts about the albums and songs. So here you have it, Asylum vs. Crazy Nights. Enjoy and then head over to the Facebook page and let us know your favourite!!
Well it's been a long time coming but the Canadian Geeks are finally resuming their Decade of Decadence "Playlist Battle". A competition that pits Wallygator vs. The Meister with our listeners deciding who will step out of the ring victorious. Each host has created a 6 song playlist of songs that were on albums released in the year 1983. Both playlists will be played in their entirety identifed as simply "Playlist A" and later "Playlist B". You will not know which playlist belongs to which host and nope, we ain't telling! After listening to the show, simply head on over to our facebook page and found below the episode post will be a voting poll to cast your vote for the playlist you enjoyed the most. Simple! The playlist with the most votes after 2 weeks will be deemed the winner. One vote per customer. Now if you don't have facebook and prefer to use the twitterverse we will accept private messages via our twitter account. For those of you keeping score at home, Wallygator has won 1980 and 1982 and the Meister claimed victory for 1981. Will the Meister tie things up this round or will Wallygator add to his lead. Up first the boys spin some DITD's... Dusk Til Dawn - Bullet (Meister) Can I Play With Madness - Iron Maiden (Wallygator) Also included in this episode is a discussion revolving around a bottle of the Tragically Hip's Fully Completely red wine which the boys dive into. So before unleashing their chosen playlists they decide to drop a double shot of the Hip. So Hard Done By and Inevitability Of Death from the Day For Night album. Then sit back, crack open a frosty beverage and have a listen to some incredible music from 1983. Then go vote and share to all your friends. Remember, voting closes 2 weeks after the release of the podcast!
Our regular listeners should be getting used to our Riot Radio series. Every other episode we present to you a true alternative to regular radio. You know, those stations that play the same 30 songs over and over and over again? You won’t find that here at Riot Radio! Every Riot Radio brings you a dozen or so songs that most likely you have either never heard on terrestrial radio or at least not in the last 2 or 3 decades. Riot Radio Vol. 6 is a little different. Wallygator jumps into the DJ seat and goes Riot Radio Unplugged. He figured it was best to do this on his own knowing full well that his co-host would want nothing to do with such a theme. Riot Radio Vol. 6 - UnpluggedUnplugged acoustic music is nothing new, but the concept was thrust hard into pop culture when MTV launched its MTV Unplugged series in November of 1989. Many genres of music embraced the concept and huge Unplugged albums became all the rage. Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Tesla all released very successful acoustical albums. This episode is loaded up with some familiar artists and some maybe not so familiar. All of them stripping down their tunes to the are bones acoustic and unplugged. Alas, the Meister gets wind of what’s happening and calls in a very special request not wanting to be left out of this unplugged episode!
Alright, way back on Episode #59 “Suppositories, Whiskey and Wine” I somewhat proudly warned you all that it was our most drunken episode yet. Well that lasted for eleven episodes. We apologize for what you are about to hear. On the evening that we recorded the Suppository episode, it turns out we actually recorded two episodes. The second of those episodes was put into the CGCM vault and was left there just in case of an emergency shortage of Canadian Geeks Chatting Metal!!! Turns out, it was necessary to venture into the vault sooner than we expected. We pulled out this mess and realized that neither one of us actually remember any of the recording of this episode. Welcome to part 2 of the Meister’s Battleship game. The concept is loosely (very loosely!) based on the Milton Bradley game Battleship. In reality it’s just an excuse to randomly select songs from the Meisters massive music collection and share them with you. Sounds awesome but the Meister has both, an abundance of awesome music and an equal amount of “what was he thinking?”.Load up the torpedo tubes as Wallygator randomly selects album coordinates and blindly unleashes twelve completely random songs. Will he hear the Meister scream "you sank my battleship!"? You will hear the Meister incoherently count like a Sesame St character and plenty of drunken babble from your hosts. Again, our sincerest apologies for this mess of an episode. You will get some cool tunes and maybe some not so cool tunes. As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yee Haw! The Canadian Geeks go country in the latest episode of the CGCM Podcast. Rich “The Meister” Dillon took a quick road trip up to Wallygator’s cottage for an outdoor recording session. They call it “cottage country” so the boys decided to get into the spirit. They put on some assless chaps, loaded up the beer fridge and brought along some Cloven Hoof Rum for good measure. The theme? Taking the “O” outta Country. It’s a country music podcast like you have never heard. The lines are blurred with country stars doing rock songs and metal bands doing country tunes. Cats sleeping with dogs! It’s chaos in assless chaps and cowboy hats!
Here we go again....it's CGCM Podcast EP#67-Riot Radio Vol. 4! It’s Wallygator’s turn in the DJ seat. He is primed and ready to unleash a dozen songs for your dining and dancing pleasure. Please review our podcast at www.podchaser.com just like Cereal Man 78 who left quite possibly the best podcast review of all time! Hear the boys discuss this amazing review which also includes Sonny “Hollywood” Pooni of Growin' Up Rock Podcast. A 5-star review of epic proportions. This, of course, leads into a conversation tangent on breakfast cereals. Go figure, many beers were harmed during the intro of this episode. LA Guns “Showdown (Riot on Sunset)” is tonight’s theme song as Riot Radio invades your eardrums.
Please Return to your seats, put your tray back to the upright locked position and fasten your seatbelts. The Canadian Geeks are touching down in the land down under for over 2 hours of Aussie rock and metal.in the ever popular Around the World in 80 Episodes series , the boys discuss the fascinating country of kangaroos, wallabies and of course "Fosters" Lager. Oh and they drink a lot of beer and uncover some amazing bands from this most interesting country. Also discovered in this episode is that there are large blue spiders in Australia and when you flush the toilet the water spins in the opposite direction. We also learn that the Meister may have failed Grade 8 Geography, New Zealand is not physically connected to Australia and you will also hear Wallygator's imitation of playing the didgeridoo. But of course the real reason for their visit is to play a crap-load of awesome Australian bands and that they did! From Bengal Tigers to Zoot you will hear some amazing tracks and we promise no AC/DC or Airbourne in this show.
Recently the Canadian Geeks took a rock and roll road trip west to the Hammer aka Hamilton, Ontario for the Darby Mills/Killer Dwarfs show. They packed up the recording gear, brought along program director Dave "Andy Travis" Wood and captured some podcast gold at the Anchor Bar over a multitude of cold beer! In Part 2 of our Massive Dick in the Dirt series, Rich "the Meister" Dillon, Wallygator and "Andy Travis" go round the table selecting some choice ear candy guaranteed to knock your appendage into the dirt. Fifteen hard rock tunes interspersed with beer soaked ball busting babble that only the CGCM Podcast can deliver. Dick jokes, in depth conversations about toilet paper and a website that rates the quality of your poop are just some of the fun you Enjoy Andy Travis's concert memory of the infamous Judas Priest concert in Toronto that saw Rob Halford knocked unconscious. Witness the Meister get berated for calling Chickenfoot flaccid. Hear possibly the funniest story ever heard on the Podcast about the time Andy Travis met Triumph! ***CGCM PUKE ON A ROCKSTAR - If you have ever puked on a rockstar we want to know.*** It's almost two and a half hours of ridiculousness and kick ass rock n roll!
Welcome everyone to the second installment of Riot Radio. This week in the DJ seat is Wallygator and he is here to spin a dozen tracks for your dancing and dining pleasure. Let’s face it, radio is dead but I am here to tell you there is a choice. The CGCM Podcast is determined to do our part in uncovering all of the amazing music that gets all but ignored on your local stations.Bands from around the world busting their asses and creating killer rock and metal. The problem is they are all but ignored by radio. These are the bands that Riot Radio is here for. It’s what terrestrial and satellite radio wishes it could be. Track Listing Denman – The Life We Live Matt Mitchell & The Cold Hearts – Black Diamonds Barbe Q Barbies – Innocent Carl Dixon – Little Miss Innocent The Defiants – Lil Miss Rock n Roll Diemonds – Lil Miss from A Rebel Few – Empires Fall West Memphis Suicide – Cocked and Loaded Love Razer – Partied Out Freak Red Dragon Cartel – Speedbag Silvertide – Mary Jane The Sole Pursuit – Dancing In the Dark We want to hear what you think! Tell us your favourite tracks from this all all of the Riot Radio Episodes. We will use your votes and comments to compile and end of year CGCM Podcast Riot Radio Chart. Remember the old CHUM 30 Charts? Help us create Buzzsaw's Top 24! Why 24? It's always beer related with the Canadian Geeks.
In what is absolutely the most intoxicated episode of the CGCM Podcast ever recorded, the Canadian Geeks are back! The regular Disciples of the Beaver are used to the beer soaked babble from Wallygator and the Meister. For over 50 episodes the Geeks have been fuelled almost exclusively with the amazing beers of Rhythm & Brews. Tonight is something totally different and possibly very wrong! Upon arrival to CGCM studios east, the Geeks begin the evening with an appetizer of whiskey! This in of itself is probably not a good idea but they follow off whiskey shots with 2 bottles of wine!Completely inebriated even before the Dick In The Dirt segment, you are about to enter the twilight zone! In fact, Wallygator botched the sponsor names a mere 5 minutes into recording. Way to go you idiot! Speaking of DITD’s they are both aptly wine themed. Def Leppard’s Me and My Wine and The Poor’s More Wine Waiter Please! It’s a wine battle of metal proportions! In this corner weighing in at two and a half poundsf, it’s Motörhead (not Megadeth!) Rose. It’s opponent, weighing also in at 2 and a half pounds, Slayer’s Blood Red Cabernet Sauvignon. The Geeks take turns playing Motörhead/Slayer doubleshots whilst drinking both bottles of grape elixir. What transpires are Slayer stories, Motörhead Stories, drunken laughter, drunken babble and lastly a decision as to which wine was victorious in the taste tests battle of the Metal wine.Somehow, suppositories, (yes the suppositories that make you go poo-poo) enter the conversation and the idiots decide it should be part of the episode’s title. So sit back, grab some beers, some whiskey, some wine and hell even some suppositories if you are so inclined and enjoy some bone crunching metal from Slayer and Megadeth! Oh FFS! I meant Motörhead!
Tired of the state of your radio station? Are they playing the same 20 songs over and over again? Tired of hearing the same two or three Zeppelin tunes, the same two AC/DC songs? Hell, if you all you ever listen to is terrestrial radio, it would appear that the Rolling Stones ever recorded five songs in 50 years. So forget about your transistor radio and hop on Da-Plane, this is Fantast Island Radio. A musical paradise that plays hits and deep cuts and accepts the new! During part two the boys discuss the KISS End Of The Road Tour, meet and greets and the dreaded "CRS" syndrome that afflict men over 40. They kick off the music with a pair of D.I.T.D.'s. Wallygator selects Hal Spark's Zero 1 band and the track "Panic Attack" while the Meister spins some Danko Jones with the song "Play The Blues"From there they hop the plane to Fantasy Island where the beer is cold, the sun is hot and the radio sounds a little like this...Six double shots of loud Canadian Rock carries you through the rest of the show. The first tune of each double shot is an old classic track from back in the day, followed by something a little more current from the same artist. This week's double-shots feature music from FIST, Brighton Rock, Kick Axe, Sven Gali, Von Grove and finishing off with Canada's Queen of Scream Darby Mills!

Fantasy Island Radio Part One. We heard you missed us we’re back! So some of you have seen Rich’s Facebook post discussing all of many reasons that resulted in our “longer than planned” hiatus from the podcasting world. With the exception of Wallygator’s penchant and addiction to touching himself all are pretty much true and valid. Wallygator’s private time in no way affected the podcast hiatus but we will keep you posted if that changes. This latest lag in podcast production had us questioning ourselves. Was it worth the effort? There is a ton of work producing a podcast and real life continues to throw obstacles at us. The biggest difficulty is really is finding the time to get together. Our working schedules couldn’t be more opposite. We recently called an emergency meeting. At a bar with frosty cold beers (well duh!) and put all of our cards into the table. We both decided that the CGCM was going to continue. We put together a realistic plan to move forward starting with this very episode. The biggest reason for our decision was the number of positive comments we have been receiving. When we hear that we have turned someone on to a new band, it’s beyond rewarding to both of us. So keep those comments coming everyone. So here we go, diving head first into our third year of Podcast mayhem. We begin with Fantasy Island Radio Part One. This episode idea came to be from a Facebook post that appeared on Wallygator’s Facebook feed. Basically it discussed the reality that mainstream radio all but ignores new music from the rock genre. Not just new bands, radio all but ignores classic artists as well relying on the 3 or 4 classic hits of yesterday to fill their rotation. Honestly AC/DC has more songs than You Shook Me All Night Long and Back in Black. When was the last time you heard something off Rock or Bust or Black Ice on your radio? Pretty much non existent. The Facebook thread in question was discussing the song Rock n Roll Outlaw that has been recently covered by Brian Vollmer (Helix) on his recent “Get Your Hands Dirty”. Mr. Vollmer himself chimes in on the thread to mirror the sentiment that radio barely accepts new music into rotation. Our answer to this? Fantasy Island Radio. The Geeks, drink beer (well duh!) and deliver some hard rock double shots. The first song, a classic from the good old days and songs you would actually hear on the radio. Followed by something more current from the same artists catalogue and most likely completely ignored from mainstream radio. This is what radio should be, this is what radio could be. This is why we listen to podcasts dammit!!!! Pass me a beer, let’s rock!!!
So as is par for the course with the Canadian Geeks, best laid plans go to waste! Late last year the Meister exclaimed that the CGCM Podcast was going weekly!! It turned out to be the longest stretch of weekly episode churned out by the heavy metal hosers. Alas, the streak is over. Crashed and burned but then again, what did you really expect. The thing is, both of your hosts have full time jobs and lives and responsibilities and well let's face it, the Meister travels too much. This often leaves Wallygator wondering what continent, what festival and what bar room floor the Meister is napping on. If only the CGCM Podcast actually paid all their bills we would be willing to go DAILY! So once again we apologize for the delays. In the meantime the boys went back into the vault. You heard that right, just like the KISS Vault filled with old stages and costumes and all that. The CGCM Podcast Vault exists. It contains mostly empty Rhythm & Brews bottles but there was one important find! One lonely, dusty banked episode of the CGCM Podcast! That episode, more than a year ago has been dusted off and presented to you now. This was back when we only had one lonely sponsor and we indulged large their amazing beer. For your listening pleasure we present to you, The 30 Day Song Challenge - Part 4! Up first a couple of DITD's from Anvil and Sixx A.M. before jumping right into the nights topic. For those that have no idea what we are talking about head back and check out our 30 Day Song Challenges 1 through 3 to get up to speed. Or don't. We are ok with that too. You will hear music from KISS, Bon Jovi, Ozzy, John Corabi, Tesla, Hardline, Accept, Nickelback, Sister Sin, Dio, Four Horseman and Triumph.
This week Curt returns to talk criminal second thoughts, chicken & Cheetos, big cancer talk, BBQ finger, WWI potato, and Wallygator. Plus: Curt sings his theme song, Craig NerdBurgers us on The Tommy Westphall Universe, and Kevin goes... Back to the Well!
on this weeks episode, a Valentines Day contest announcement, first 90% or last 10%, missed connections, Bills solo music debut, how to talk to women the right way, merge it or lose it, stolen bits, how to make glitter balls, metal mick the opossum hunter, how to deal with a slightly cocky kid & so much more. plus in the news, FL man tribute, sometimes you have to crap, alone in the elevator, shut up! I'm watching TV, Wallygator, super bowl baby makin, iPhone bug & drunk on Vanilla. we're kinda like the Seinfeld of podcasts, not really about anything specific but we'll make you laugh and entertain you for a little bit so take a break from the stress and laugh with us.
This inaugural episode of the show includes Kim Jong Un's manure mandate, Wally the emotional support alligator and a woman's harrowing elevator experience. It's been quite a while since the Canadian Geeks jumped into their hot air balloon and taken a trip. Fasten your seat belts as we go "Around The World In 80 Episodes". This time Wallygator and the Meister set down in the land of the rising sun. Welcome everyone to JAPAN! For those that may have not listened to any of our previous episodes from this series, it goes like this. Your hosts actually have to spend some time researching the hard rock and metal bands of the chosen country. This of course is something that almost resembles "work" but the good news is they can do the research while sipping on Rhythm & Brews and Cloven Hoof Rum. So don't feel too sorry for them. Oh and they also get to uncover some great music.
You read that correctly. The Canadian Geeks sit down and chat metal with Mr. Paul "Freakin" Stanley! It's a dream come true episode as Wallygator and The Meister chat via telephone with the Paul Stanley. So get yourself a frosty cold beverage, sit back and hear all about some of Paul's favourite metal music. Now seriously, you weren't actually expecting Paul Stanley from KISS? We are far more excited to introduce Paul Stanley, founder, and owner of Cloven Hoof Rum, the newest sponsor of the CGCM Podcast. Paul calls in from jolly ol' England to revel in some conversation and drink heavily with the Canadian Geeks. As Paul likes to put it "Raise the Hoof"! Paul talks about his passion for metal music, his passion for RUM and sharing his name with another famous Paul Stanley. It's the complete story of how Cloven Hoof Rum came to be and its very cool relationship with the metal scene. Cloven Hoof Rum is a proud sponsor of metal music and Paul spins a six pack of bands that he wants to shed some light on. The CGCM Podcast is proud to be the vehicle chosen to share the spotlight on these great bands.
It's the Canadian Geeks BEST OF 2018 Episode! What year would be complete without counting down Wallygator's and the Meisters' Top Albums from the year gone by? Now we understand that every podcast under the sun will have released or will be releasing their versions of their Best Of's but I would be willing to bet that none of them turns a top 10 list into a top 31 like the Meister tried to. So Happy New Beer everyone! We should note that for the fist time in CGCM Podcast history, the geeks were recording from separate locations due to scheduling limitations. We apologize with the slightly lower sound quality that resulted. Technicians are hard at work for the next one. Have a listen as the Meister's head nearly explodes trying to narrow down anything close to a top 10. Now in his defense, there really was an abundance of amazing music released last year. Now don't waste your time trying to find this stuff on the radio, it simply isn't there. Then again, if you are reading these shownotes on our podcast website you already know where to find the latest and greatest in real rock past and present! This episode delivers a dozen tracks pulled from each hosts top 6 albums of the year. You will hear music from Worry Blast, Red Dragon Cartel, U.D.O., Love Razer, Vandellus, Striker, Steel City, Dee Snider, Lee Aaron, Tokyo Blade and the mighty Judas Priest! Musically this could be our best episode yet. Throw in a couple of 2018 released Dick in the Dirt tracks courtesy of Hammer Down Hard - Total Annihilation and Snew's Your Freaking Me Out and what you have is one bad ass year end review show. We also wanted to take a moment and wish all of our listeners and our awesome sponsors a Happy New Year. - Cheers!
Well it seems the Canadian Geeks have hit a scheduling snag leaving them unable to convene for their normal beer drinking recording sessions. Fortunately they did have one episode hidden in the "vault", an episode that wasn't actually supposed to see the light of day. This episode is now yours! Disclaimer #1 - This episode was recorded way, WAY back on a hot summer day in July 2018. So some of the conversation within deals with events that are now in the history books (Rock n Pod Expo, etc.). Disclaimer #2 - This recording session was also plagued with "sound quality" issues. The recording was cleaned up as much as possible but still remains below our usual personal standards. This was the reason we had originally decided to not air this particular episode. After extensive conversations and a number of listens, we feel that the music is more important than the sub-par sound quality of our babbling. Disclaimer #3 - This recording was the third one tackled on the same day so we are REALLY intoxicated! You have been warned, LOL. Grab some beers and join us for "The Meister's Battleship". A drunken musical spin on the old Milton Bradley game. Wallygator randomly calls out battleship coordinates from the Meister's extensive music collection. The Meister then has to play a song from whatever album Wally has blindly selected. The results? Some of the most ahhh interesting music ever played on the show, Canadian Metal, Swedish Pop, Los Angeles Sleaze, Horror Metal, Chris Gaines and many more.
In our final "Nashville Rock n Pod Expo" recap, the Canadian Geeks round out their day with a full episode of Canadian Inquisition segments. Fellow Podcasters and friends of the show take turns in the hot seat to see who will be crowned the "Honorary Hoser" in Nashville, Tennessee. The answers to our 11 Canadian"isms" get very creative, we have tons of music and some Nashville trip stories including... The Meister busting Wallygator's balls about his inexperience in traveling. The Meister almost getting arrested at Burger King Wallygator busting the Meister's balls for crashing early and missing a whiskey fueled trip to Coyote Ugly. It's a long one, full of metal, laughter and drunken babble
On a hot August weekend, the Canadian Geeks head to the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo for a full weekend of alcoholic mayhem. The Meister, Wallygator and Buzzsaw Barley got into plenty of mischief. what you are about to experience is the first of three episodes capturing the sights, the sounds and the smells of their adventures. Hundreds of beers and a bottle of "Schmendlemans" Canadian Whiskey were harmed during the duration of this crazy weekend. Near arrests, random naps, a trip to Coyote Ugly, 3am Waffle House trips and more laughter than should be legally allowed. Part One is busting at the seams with interviews from Tora Tora, Jacob Cade and legendary record producer Toby Wright. Also included is the "Canadian Inquisition" as the Geeks test the Canuck knowledge of guests, fellow podcasters and anyone who wanted to sit in the hot seat! Bonus Canadian Inquisition Guests feature friend and fan Andy Lafon and MC Hammered, Mr. Aaron Camaro. Of course we spin some killer music and it's 2 hours of the Canadians Gone Wild In Nashville.
The Canadian Geeks are back at it again. Another long evening of drinking and recording and a little more drinking and you get this. Almost two and a half hours of drunkin' rock n roll babble with some really great music to keep you interested and listening to the entire episode. Live albums are often polarizing in their own right. Some love em (Wallygator) and others not so much (The Meister) but nonetheless they sometimes can even define an artists career. Where would Kiss be without Alive? The Who's Live at Leeds, Cheap Trick's Live at Budokan, Jimi Hendrix Live at Montery and of course who could forget Poison's Swallow This Live! (ok maybe not so much that last one!) So with the success of the CGCM's Greatest Debut Albums OF All Time, we figured why not dive into our collection of live albums. Grab a cold one or six, open your ears real wide and see if you agree with the CGCM's Greatest Live Albums Of All Time! As always this is the opinion of your esteemed expert hosts (how did I even type that with a straight face?) but as always art is subjective and we encourage you to share your own personal top 6 live albums of all time. But of course we always start with the Canadian Geeks' Dick in the Dirt tracks. Each of the hosts select one song that is rocking their world. The Meister's D.I.T.D Track - Nightbreak - Nightbreak Wallygator's D.I.T.D Track - Rise - Emyna
The Canadian Geeks return for the first ever "Signature Six-Pack SerieZ" where we focus all our attention on a single artist. Still riding high on the recent "Dirkschneider - Back To The Roots Part 2 Tour", the Geeks have chosen Udo Dirkschneider eras of Accept to focus on. Both hosts each take turns playing their favourite 6 pack of Accept songs, share stories about the band, some concert memories both old and new. Oh and they drink some beer but by episode 27 you probably already know that. ds2Featured on a special "Dick In The Dirt" Track, the guys decided to each play a song from the support band Elm Street. Elm Street from Australia assaulted some ears and earned at least a couple new Canadian fans playing a great set including songs from their 2016 album "Knock Em Out...With A Metal Fist!". Wallygator spins "Heart Racer" and the Meister selects "Heavy Mental". So grab a cold one, or six and be prepared to bang your head to one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time. Balls to the Wall people!
The Canadian Geeks return to continue the decade of decadence "Battle of the Playlists"! This week, Wallygator and the Meister do battle for the year 1982! For those that are keeping score the boys are tied 1-1 in this 10 episode battle. So the gloves come off as we feature some of the amazing hard rock and heavy metal released in the year 1982. In case you have not experienced one of our playlist battles, it works like this. The Meister and Wallygator each select a 6 Song playlist from the selected year. Both playlists are revealed on the episode and YOU, the listener can vote on which playlist you think should WIN! The votes are collected on a Facebook Poll option that can be found right here CGCM Facebook. Voting will be open for two weeks and then a winner will be tabulated. Also discussed on this episode the Rock n Pod Expo 2, Vinnie Vincent and the Meister's Air B & B rant. The Meister's Dick in the Dirt Track - Rock & Roll Prostitute - Doll Hazard Wallygator's Dick in the Dirt Track - Canadian Metal - Joe Thrasher
The Canadian Geeks are thrilled to bring you the very first ever RockerZ Reflection SerieZ episode featuring Gypsy Rose's Michael Ross. For those that might not be aware of Gypsy Rose, the band came out of Sarnia, Ontario Canada. They caught the ear of one Mr. Gene Simmons (KISS) and were quickly signed to Simmons Records/RCA, releasing their debut album "PREY" in 1990. It should be noted that the PREY album was a large topic of conversation on the night that Wallygator and the Meister first met each other. The music conversation that consumed that fateful evening included each of them recalling albums from their respective collections and PREY was one that collectively knocked their dicks in the dirt! The Geeks sit down with founding member and vocalist Michael Ross for an in depth interview as it appears that 2018 will mark a re-birth for the Gypsy Rose camp. A new lineup, new music and a new lease on life! Stories include how Gene Simmons first heard the band, how the European Prey Tour got cancelled and how a close friend of Michael diligently catalogued and took care of every recording Gypsy Rose ever did. Those tapes have been critical in bringing the band back! Also an interesting connection with the band Greta Van Fleet. Great friend and Gypsy Rose SUPERFAN, Mikael Svensson from Sweden calls in to assist with the interview asking some very insightful questions about the formative years of Gypsy Rose. Special thanks to Michael Ross for spending some time with the podcast and especially for letting us share some new Gypsy Rose music. Wallygator's D.I.T.D. Track - Once Around - Crimson Jimson The Meister's D.I.T.D. Track - If Looks Could Kill - Primal Fear
The Canadian Geeks set sail for South America. With a BIG cooler full of Rhythm & Brews beer Wallygator and the Meister cruise on down to Brazil for the 4th installment of Around the World in 80 Episodes. Upon arrival they proceed to consume some beer (obviously) and each of them take turns uncovering some very cool Brazilian hard rock and heavy metal. Wallygator plays tour guide to teach the Meister some facts about the fascinating country of Brazil and of course they start the show with their D.I.T.D. tracks... Wallygator's D.I.T.D Track - "Youngblood" by Suzi Kory The Meister's D.I.T.D. Track - "Lovelorn" by Michael Morrow & The Culprits The boys soon found discovered that Brazil is a hotbed of great bands and there was an over abundance of music to choose from. Don't be surprised if they swing back for a part two sometime down the road. Uncovered on the show... Viper - Living For The Night Dr. Sin - Emotional Catastrophe Hazy Hamlet - Symphony Of Steel Fire Strike - Reach For Your Life Tribuzy - Beast In The Light Almah - Pleased To Meet You Tales From The Porn - Back To The 80's Desert Dance - Louder Faster & Sleaze Pleasure Maker - Is There A Doctor In The House Rebel Machine - Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong Dirty Glory - Sticks & Stones Motorocker- Rock Na Veia As always, if you are digging the music heard here go check out the bands and BUY THEIR MUSIC! Support the bands that entertain your ears!!
HAPPY NEW BEER! Welcome to 2018, it seems the Canadian Geeks and their livers have successfully made it to January. The plan was to release this on New Years Day but one or more of the hosts (Wallygator!!!) was lost in hangover hell. So in true CGCM fashion we missed the first day of 2018, in the words of Greg Frazer "should be Canadian drunks!". So with that said, we welcome you to "KISS MY ASS 2017", our massive End Of Year retrospective episode. Most podcasts come up with their year end top 10's but in true CGCM style the Geeks have come up their TOP 12. (as in a dozen beers) To keep the episode in under 7 hours, the boys agree to only play through their top 6 picks but discuss their individual top 12's. It's our longest episode yet but they leave no stone unturned as they proudly reveal some of the greatest rock and metal released in the year 2017! Who made the Number One picks of the year? Sure we could tell you here, but that would ruin the suspense and besides music is meant to be experienced! So grab a frosty beverage, turn it up and lend us your ears. Feel free to post your own top 12's of 2017 and maybe we can discover something we missed. Wallygator's D.I.D.T. - Heavens Fire - Children Of The Storm Meister's D.I.D.T. - Prowess - No Survivors
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Welcome to the first ever CGCM Christmas Holiday Special. The Canadian Geeks dove early and deep into the Rhythm & Brews Christmas cheer so all bets were off by the time the record button was hit. On this episode you will learn why the Meister hates Christmas, hear Wallygator go over the edge and most importantly who in the world is Gerry Mentlemen? The Meister talks about wearing a thong, the boys discuss Christmas movies, the Meister slips in a Rap song (sorry about that!). Hear the Meister proclaim that if the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup this year 2017/18, he will run naked in the streets. A story about the Dee Snider Rock n Roll Christmas Tale. Yet another Star Wars discussion that dissolves into the Meister pointing out that it must have been cold on the movie set based on Princess Leia's nipples. Worst of all Wallygator agrees to sing a naughty song at Karaoke for a cash fee! All in all it's a Holiday train wreck pretty much from the word go. We apologize for tarnishing the most wonderful time of the year, but then again it is the CGwbCM Podcast. Did you really expect anything different? Hear the following festive fare; 220 Volt (Heavy Christmas), Winger (Silent Night), American Dog (Merry Christmas Asshole), Dio (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen), Run DMC (Christmas In Hollis), Rob Halford (We Three Kings), GWAR (Stripper Christmas, Summer Holiday), Helix (All I Want For Christmas Is The Leafs To Win The Cup!), AC/DC (Mistress For Christmas), Twisted Sister (Oh Come All Ye Faithful), Spinal Tap (Christmas With The Devil), Brighton Rock (White Christmas). Wallygator's D.I.T.D. Track - Burn It Down - Aviator Shades The Meister's D.I.T.D. Track - Vice City - Last Alibi
On this week's episode the Canadian Geeks discuss the greatest debut albums of all time! To clarify, Wallygator and the Meister run down their own personal top 12 debut albums of all time. How were these albums chosen for such a distinction you ask? Commercial success? Critical acclaim? Public voting? Not a chance! The boys drank a bunch of beer and compiled their top 12's directly from the heart. There's the thing art is subjective, the only criteria for the CGCM Top 12 Debut Albums was it had to be a full length album (8 songs or more) and it had to stir the soul or tickle the nether regions of the hosts. So please join us for a new plate of CGCM silliness for part one of this utter nonsense. As always they get things rocking with the D.I.T.D. (Dick In The Dirt Track). Wallygator's D.I.T.D. Track - Light In The Dark - Revolution Saints The Meiser's D.I.T.D. Track - Born Trucker - Trucker Diablo
The Canadian Geeks return for another "Battle of the Playlists" episode. This time they welcome back Annie who provided the inspiration for Episode 2 - "What Defines Heavy Metal". Annie, CGCM's "Number One Fan" has challenged Wallygator into an epic Playlist Battle for the year 1979! The Geeks pack up their recording gear and head out of town to set up the ring for a no holds barred "Family Edition of the Battle of the Playlists". Drippy, I mean the Meister will once again act as out impartial referee as Annie and Wallygator throwdown with their own custom 6-Pack of songs. Learn why the Meister gets called Drippy, learn the challenges Annie had preparing her 1979 playlist. Listen as the Canadian Geeks get serenaded, some in-depth music discussion about "heavy metal", Sid and Nancy, Blondie, Fart Metal and most importantly some insight on what Meatloaf may have been talking about with "I Would Do Anything For Love" but he won't do what?!?! Wallygator's - Dick In The Dirt Track - "False Flag Operation" - Electric Guitars The Meister's - Dick In The Dirt Track - "Loud Stuff" - The Dirty Denims
For the second week of Noshameber BJ is joined by Wallygator and Rich "Meister" Dillon from the CGCM Podcast.
For those that consider themselves fans of L.A.Guns, Friday the 13th has been a very anticipated circle on the calendar. The release date for the Lewis/Guns reunion album "The Missing Peace" has generated quite the buzz in the hard rock/heavy metal community. So much so that the Canadian Geeks has decided to release their first ever "track by track" review of this highly anticipated release. Ok, maybe it was Wallygator who was the practically wetting himself awaiting this record, but it was the Meister who suggested the concept for this episode. Also included in this episode is a new segment to be heard on all upcoming shows. The "Dick in the Dirt Track" will highlight one track from each host that is quite simply knocking their dick in the dirt. Hence the name! Wally's Dick in the Dirt Track - Cloud Headed Woman by Aron Scott Earthquake The Meister's Dick in the Dirt Track - Lifeline by Wraith
For the third installment of our "Around The World In 80 Episodes" the Canadian Drunks visit the far off land of Switzerland! Who are we kidding? There is no budget to fly our hosts to such exotic locales so instead Rich "the Meister" Dillon and Wallygator enlist the assistance of some very special guests and good friends, Evelyne and Thomas Baumgartner as they guest host and program all the music for this weeks episode! When Thomas and Evelyne planned out a little Canadian vacation they contacted the Meister and informed him that on the top of their list of things to do whilst here in Canada was to taste some Rhythm & Brews Beer! Here at the CGCM Podcast, we make dreams come true! Then a thought occurred to us! Let's coerce them to co-host the show and program all the music for a Switzerland Around the World Episode. Sounded like a perfect idea to us, we could just sit back, drink beer and let them do all the heavy lifting. Hell, they were so nice they even brought us beer and treats from Switzerland! So tune in for bombshell after bombshell about Switzerland, their cheese, chocolate, tiny knives, All Porn (oops that's Alphorn) and a huge dose of Swiss Heavy Metal! All washed down with some Rhythm & Brews "Hefe Metal". So come join us the Canadian Geeks continue their quest around the world. Special Thanks to Evelyne and Thomas for the co-hosting sharing some awesome metal with us and also to Shane for the fart sound effects. CGCM Podcast - Home of Fart Metal!! On this Episode... Killer - Ladykiller Gloria Volt - Rollercoaster Crystal Ball - Paradise Marc Paganini - Berlin by Night Shakra - She's My Ecstasy Krokus - Heatstrokes Gotthard - Anytime Anywhere China (the band not the country) - Sign In The Sky Backwash - Legless Fast Lane - Real Tempesta - Swallow The Saint
You Wanted the Best! You got the Kanadian Geeks as they deliver their first ever KISS themed episode. Wallygator and The Meister recorded the episode on the three year anniversary of KISS/Def Leppard/Kobra & The Lotus show at the then Molson Amphitheatre. As always many beers were harmed during the recording so the boys are in full on babble mode as they decide to engage in a little KISS Kompetition. It's a variation of the popular "Battle of the Playlists" but with a KISS twist. All 20 KISS studio albums plus the 4 1978 solo albums went into a hat. Live albums and greatest hits packages are NOT included. The Geeks take turns selecting SIX studio albums each. They will then assemble their individual Six Song KISS playlist representing the albums that they each have chosen. Unlike the usual Battle of the Playlists, this will not be a blind vote as the listeners will know ahead of time who's playlist is whose. This fact puts the Meister in a tizzy as he whines and complains throughout that this somehow gives Wallygator some sort of unfair advantage. When its all said and done you get to hear 12 awesome KISS tunes so there really is no losers here. With that said we encourage everyone to get out and vote for the KISSLIST that you love the best. Wallygator's Kisslist A or The Meister's KISSlist B. To vote check the Offical Pole on our Facebook Page. GO VOTE PEEPUL!
With only 2 weeks left of summer vacation, it would probably be a great time to remind everyone that Ontario is "Yours To Discover". The Canadian Geeks have decided to help wrap up the Canadian summer with "Ontario - Metal To Discover". Now Ontario is a big province both geographically and also musically so it should be no surprise that this clocks in as our biggest episode yet. Coming in at over 2 HOURS! Wallygator and the Meister hand pick some of their favourite metal from their home province. It should be noted that many beers were harmed during the recording of this marathon. Then again, if you are still here 13 episodes in you are probably expecting nothing less. Topics of conversation include the Toronto Blue Jays, genitalia, the League of Rock, Stained Class Records, red windscreens and M.E.A.T. Magazine! Enjoy "Ontario, Metal To Discover" #Phear #Cauldron #Axxion #ARebelFew #Malacoda #Varga #Skrou #BloodyDiamonds #SlashPuppet #WildT #LastBullet #LoveRazer #Phantom
The Canadian Geeks take a much needed break up at "Chatteau Wallygator" also known as Wally's cottage. Located along the Trent River the boys kick back with a peaceful view and a fridge full of beer and of course some quintessential molten metal music. The theme of the episode is two-fold. First to answer some of the listener questions that have come through on our Facebook page. The second is to play some music with the campfire theme in mind. All music must contain the word "FIRE" or "BURN" or well I think you get the idea. Also discussed within the episode this episode are swans, dog poop, viagara, Wallygator's messy eating habits, Giligan's Island and the Meister's favourite new game "Cornhole"! What are you waiting for? Grab a cold one, hit play and roast a few marshmallows with the CGCM Podcast. RIOT Dokken Enforcer Helix Primal Fear Manraze Ron Keel Warlock Kiss Mark Slaughter
In a very special episode of the CGCM Podcast, hosts Wallygator and The Meister welcome their first special guest. In support of the upcoming Nashville Rock n Pod Expo, the Canadian Geeks of CGCM are joined by Mr. Sonny Pooni. Sonny calls in from California and challenges Wallygator in a 1989 Playlist Battle. Listen in as the three rock fans share stories, laughs and remember to vote for your favorite playlist ("A" or "B") over the next 2 weeks! Check our Facebook page for updates throughout the battle and we'll announce the winner when the polls shut down!
The Canadian Geeks are back! This time they showcase the upcoming Hair Metal Heaven Festival in August in Hull UK. In this music filled experience, Wallygator attempts to relieve some of the stress off co-host The Meister by cueing up this episodes tracks. He fails miserably, but the guys manage some great tracks by Festival artists. Loudness - "Crazy Nights" (#crazynights, #loudness) Crazy Lixx - "Wild Child" (#crazylixx, #wildchild) Princess Pang - "Scream & Shout" (#princesspang, #screamandshout) House of Lords - "Slip of the Tongue" (#houseoflords, #slipofthetongue) Niterain - "The Threat" (#niterain, #threat) Shark Island - "Spellbound" (#sharkisland, #spellbound) D-A-D - "Evil Twin" (#dad, #eviltwin) The Poodles - "Night of Passion" (#poodles, #nightofpassion) Vain - "Beat the Bullet" (#vain, #beatthebullet) Leatherwolf - "Thunder" (#leatherwolf, #thunder) Wildside - "So Far Away" (#wildside, #sofaraway) Diemonds - "Trick or Treat" (#diemonds, #trickortreat)
The Canadian Geeks are back for round 2 in their Battle of the Playlist competition. This round is "1981" as Wallygator and the Meister each choose their own 6 pack of great rock and metal from the year 1981. The listeners will decide who created the stronger playlist. Oh and they also indulge in plenty of cold beverages too.
During a marathon recording session, Wallygator and the Meister decide to record an episode to bank in case of an emergency. Didn't take long to have such an emergency as the Meister's schedule went haywire. So here is an episode that was recorded after way too many beverages. We apologize in advance. Please enjoy Part 1 of our 30 Day Song Challenge series. #metal #heavymetal #heavymetalmusic #rocknbeer #beernrock #podcasts #helix #loverazer #cgcmpod #yandt #metalpodcasts #podcastsrule
