Paulding County News Podcast Sunday 1, 2023 Paulding Sheriffs lawsuit: Tyler Canaris has filed a lawsuit against Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge and former deputy Michael McMaster, alleging civil rights violations. In a 2022 incident, dashcam footage showed McMaster body slamming Canaris during a traffic stop, claiming he matched a suspect description. The lawsuit contends that McMaster failed to follow proper procedures, leading to Canaris' arrest without probable cause. Canaris suffered severe injuries, incurring $73,000 in medical bills, including fractures and a traumatic brain injury. Canaris seeks punitive damages in the lawsuit. McMaster was fired from the sheriff's office in February 2023...............This from Atlanta News First New report urges police to reduce high-speed chases: A recent report from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) strongly recommends that law enforcement agencies adopt policies to reduce high-speed pursuits in their communities. The report suggests that pursuits should only occur when officers are aware of a violent crime or an imminent threat of one, not solely due to the suspect's dangerous driving. The recommendations stem from input by numerous police agencies and leaders, emphasizing the need to prioritize safety. One of the examples they gave in this article was about an incident that happened in 2021. 12- year-old Leden Boykins was killed in the crash during the high-speed chase. He was the friend in the back seat while the driver Charlie Moore and his teenage son were in the front two seats. The state trooper pulled Moore over after following very closely for a while. He asked for Moore's identification in which Moore responded with why am I being pulled over and that he wanted a supervisor out there. He rolled up his window. A few moments later two Paulding County Deputies showed up and smashed in the driver side window and Moore decided to take off starting the high speed chase pursuit. The trooper did a pit menuver which sent the car in the other direction off the road. Moore and his son were fine but Boykins was killed in the cash..........this from decaturish.com Twin of Paulding County woman found dead in her home desperate for answers Seven months after the discovery of Jennifer Johnson's body in her Paulding County home, her family is still seeking answers about her death. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office incident report provides limited information, and the cause of death remains officially undetermined. Jennifer's sister, Jessica Renda, disputes claims of a drug overdose, emphasizing that Jennifer was not a drug user. The sheriff's office acknowledges finding drugs in Jennifer's system but awaits additional test results from the GBI medical examiner. The investigation faces delays due to a backlog of forensic tests. Jessica Renda urges the community to come forward with any information to aid the investigation..............This from Fox 5 Weather: This week it looks like we might be seeing the last of having the highs in the 80s! Former teacher says online credit-recovery courses invite cheating: A former Paulding County public school teacher has raised concerns about cheating in online credit recovery courses offered by ed-tech company Edmentum. He claims that students can easily cheat by using search engines to find answers to course assessments. The teacher, Jeremy Noonan, demonstrated in a video how students could quickly complete assessments with high scores using this method. He also alleged that school administrators allowed such cheating to boost graduation rates, which he considers a systemic issue. However, the school district disputed Noonan's claims, stating that cheating was not widespread among fully virtual students. Edmentum defended its programs, stating they are vetted for quality.............This from The Center Square FEMA systems communications: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are partnering to conduct a nationwide emergency alert system test. An emotional support alligator named Wally, with a significant online following, made headlines after being asked to leave Citizens Bank Park during a Phillies game. Owner Joie Henney clarified that they were invited to meet the players, not attend the game. Wally, famous on TikTok and Instagram, has been featured in various activities, including a splash in Philadelphia's LOVE Park, and serving as a visual reference for Alligator Loki in Disney's Loki. Henney emphasized Wally only goes where invited. While Wally's presence at the game violated park rules, Henney hopes for a future visit during an off-season game, as the Phillies have expressed interest. Wally, the first reptile certified as an emotional support animal, offers companionship and comfort, with Henney describing him as a living weighted blanket...........This from GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting). I got a truancy letter once when I know 100% I had turned in excuses for every missed day. I went in the office and complained about it. They miraculously found my letters. After that idc. I know what's best for my kids & will deal with whatever the school wants to come at me with.” Mandy Griffin from Dallas “The nurse called me 3 weeks ago because my daughter wasn't feeling good but they told me it wouldn't be excused. The call for Crime Transparency from Law Enforcement and Elected Officials is a growing demand in cities faced with high crime rates across America. The Nation's Capital, Washington, D.C. is no stranger to crime. Carjackings and shootings have dramatically increased over the last two years. Alan Henney who listens to official communications on radio signals, and shares that information with the public, but Henney fears, all of that may end. Over the past few years, an increasing number of municipalities and police departments, including the District of Columbia have begun encrypting their radioed communications, a trend driven in part by fear that bad guys and terrorists need to do little more nowadays than download a police-scanning app to get all the intelligence they need on what police are doing and where. I think we can all agree that face-to-face sales offer us more opportunities to connect with a prospect and understand their behavior in order to encourage a conversion. B2B buyers naturally expect to receive the same thorough customer service in the digital space as they do in face-to-face sales interactions. With the expectation of a quality experience, businesses need to cater to these digital buyers with services that educate, guide and understand the buyer's needs. Covideo offers a unique solution that encourages personalization and interaction, reimagining how we communicate with video email and messaging. You can Record high-impact, low-effort video emails and texts that are super simple, and far from ordinary. Offering your users a more engaging and personalized experience can encourage lead generation, highlights the director, Margaret Henney. Margaret continues to look for a more personalized experience for their own prospects by focusing on nurturing users through the journey and working to understand their needs and answer their questions. Rather than providing a generic experience businesses can incorporate website and content personalization tailored to their needs and desires.

The NFL coaching carousel is hot, with the Chargers landing their man yesterday. The Suns haven't played their last three games due to COVID contact tracing, but they're scheduled to play tonight in Memphis. Brad has low expectations for them as they get back into a rhythm. Former Arizona Cardinal turned author Sam Acho (12:19 on podcast) joined Brad to discuss his book “Let The World See You,” which is about how to find balance in life by showing your authenticity beyond what you do as a profession.
"Was ist organisatorisch gesehen Kirche? Deine Meinung? In this episode, the fellas discuss the nonsense that is the Grammy's this year. For those that were nominated definitely deserved it however, there were big names left out. For example, The Weeknd! True in Dallas allows no twerking on the furniture when consuming the Henney margarita. Hitmaka's whole "I don't kiss and tell" was basically him kissing and telling. As Jac and Rodney discuss music, they step Into the Conscious Corner with Juicy J being the best/most influential producer of the past decade. We accidentally took a months-long break, recorded our last few episodes of our season in Dec 2019, then accidentally took another break, and then coronavirus happened. But last week, Ada's daughter was back to Chinese school on Zoom, so we're back too. In this week's episode, we continue our exploration of Asian films about Asian America through the 2007 Hwang Dong-hyuk film "Our Father," starring Daniel Henney and Kim Yeong-cheol. It's inspired by the true story of Aaron Bates, a Korean American adoptee who, with the help of the Korean media, finds his birth father when he's in the army there, only to realize his father is on death row. This is one of those episodes that rewards our regular listeners, as we compare Henney's gracious assimilation into the Korean melodrama style of acting, compared to his Chinese American/Canadian contemporaries who were too cool for school and blew up the Hong Kong film industry with "Gen X Cops" and "Gen Y Cops." We compare Henney's performance in this film to "Shanghai Calling," where he was able to act in the style of a Hollywood rom-com. And we compare "My Father's" uplifting, cutesy, very good-looking depiction of the Korean American adoptee story (where a guilt-ridden father can be forgiven and Korean America is open-heartedly embraced by Korea) to Deanne Borshay's autobiographical "First Person Plural," and her most recent "Geographies of Kinship," which shows that sometimes the adoptee experience is not that simple and questions who stood to profit off of the 200,000 babies Korea that have been sent to foreign countries.
Your favorite BROS are here to entertain you, with another week of talking smack! This episode features the segments, "Top 3", "Music, Movies & S**t Rob Don't Like", and "Story Time: My first...". We hear some funky noises coming from Henney's way, and discuss any & everything to make your week complete. Please like & subscribe, and spread the word. We greatly appreciate your support!
Young Sam makes comes back on the podcast after a long drought. Him and Dougy squashed their work beef and the boys talk about vampires and werewolfs. After they have some fun Sam gets personal and talks about his recent break-up and how dirty his ex did him. Dougy and Phil give Sam their advice to help him not become spiteful and move on and how important it is to not let our anger and negative emotions consume us. They then show Phil a music video called "Henney and a Plan B" needless to say Philly is disgusted. Then things get heated about the new James Bond being a woman and Charlies Angels. Phil then closes us out about exposing more of the manipulation the media feeds us and the Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy. In this episode we talk with Kevlin Henney, an independent software development consultant and trainer from the United Kingdom, well-known from one of his books '97 Things Every Programmer Should Know'. In the interview we discuss a wide variety of subjects in software development, like the agile community, patterns, learning and languages. Kevlin shares his thoughts on the software craftmanship movement and states his opinion on the discussion whether our profession is a form of engineering or not. In some parts of this discussion we refer to the Hot-or-Not presentation that Kevlin gave the night before the interview at Sioux, the Netherlands. You can find the slides of this presentation here. The interview was recorded at the hotel 'la Sonnerie' in Son & Breugel. We would like to thank the hotel for their hospitality by providing the chapel as a recording room for the podcast. Interview by @freekl en @arnetimAudio post-production by @mendelt Links for this podcast: Kevlin (co) authored two books of the Pattern-Oriented Software Architecture serie: volume 4 is a worked example of patterns for distributed computing and the 5th volume is a book on the concepts of patterns. In the podcast Kevlin refers to a famous quote of Jason Gorman: 'Software craftsmanship's not the "next big thing". It's an attempt to articulate what the "thing" always was'. Scrum can be seen as a 'Nomic' game, which is a game in which changing the rules is one of the rules. In a presentation called 'With Economy and Elegance - Software Engineering reclaimed' (slides here) Kevlin explains that Software Engineering is a form of engineering and a craft - following his claim there are no contradictions. Glenn Vandenburg explains what is wrong with the way Software Engineering is taught at universities in the presentation called 'Real Software Engineering' (video here). Software development is all about passion and fun. An example of passion is the Tenet of Professionalism from Uncle Bob: 'Work 40 hours for your employer and another 20 hours improving yourself'. A great example of fun and playfulness in our industry is 'the Globe', a piece of Ruby software which rotates itself. Another way to look at your code is with a tag cloud of all words used in a piece of software. This idea was proposed by Phillip Calçado.
A distiller, a brewer and a cider maker - but who will be the first winner of the Food and Farming Awards Best Drinks Producer Award? Oz Clarke joins Sheila Dillon in Birmingham's NEC to reveal all.Food writer and critic Charles Campion and restaurateur and writer Mark Hix were the judges for this category and talk Sheila through the finalists. In this first year of the Best Drinks Producer category the judges were overwhelmed with nominations for innovative entrepreneurs making all manner of juice, perry, teas, and wines. But the three drinks chosen - a cask ale, a spirit and a traditional cider - have been made in these islands throughout our history.Sipsmiths are one of a new generation of artisan distillers riding the coat-tails of pioneer distiller Julian Temperley who battled H M Customs for the right to distil. Simpsmith's were awarded the first London distillers licence in nearly 200 years, and now produce a London gin and a barley vodka from their west London residential neighbourhood distillery. Mike Henney's Herefordshire ciders are the result of a hobby that got out of hand. From airing cupboard tinkering via farmers markets the brand is now sold throughout the country's main supermarkets, making good quality cider accessible to all. Henney's ciders all have protected name status, with apples sourced from within Herefordshire and the cider is made in a traditional way. Wye Valley Brewery is a family business started by Peter Amor and now run by his son Vernon. It brings new meaning to local produce - beers are only sold within 50 miles of the brewery, the majority of hops are grown within 7 miles, and one beer, the Dorothy Goodbody Imperial Stout, even used Herefordshire malting barley.

In this Episode we talked about the new POSA 4 book which has recently been published. We talk to two of the authors, Kevlin Henney and Frank Buschmann (the third author, Doug Schmidt was not available - and he had also been on the podcast a couple of times :-)). The book contains a pattern language for distributed systems. It contains 114 patterns that had been published before by many different other authors. The patterns have been rewritten to form a consistent language. We basically talked through the different sections of the book, which gives a really good overview over the challenges and the solutions of building distributed systems. These sections include From Mud to Structure, Distribution Infrastructure, Event Demultiplexing and Dispatching, Interface Partitioning, Component Patitioning, Application Contrl, Concurrency, Synchronization, Object Interaction, Adaptazion and Extension, Modal Behaviour, Resource Management and finally, Database Access. The book references several other previous works (as listed below). Interestingly, many of these referenced works and authors have also been discussed previously on the podcast.
