This is a special episode segment of The Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast called the B-Sides. In July of 2021, Nashville Rock artist and guitar legend Damon Johnson joined the Blind Tiger Record Club hosts David W. Williams and Kevin Lee to discuss his brand new album Battle Lessons. This LP Interview was a two part episode that covered Johnson's entire career from his early beginnings in music and the bands he played with during the 1980's. We talk about the founding of Brother Cane in the 1990's, the years of touring, and the radio singles released during the band's time with Virgin Records. We also discussed his time as a member of Alice Cooper's band and writing and recording on Cooper's Dirty Diamonds album. We discussed his joining and touring with the band Thin Lizzy. We talk about the formation and recording of Black Star Riders and recording with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Finally, we discuss Damon's solo career, specifically his album Memoirs of an Uprising and his new release Battle Lessons with his new power trio called Damon Johnson and the Get Ready. The B-sides episode is a grouping of audio clips with stories that did not make the long-form interview but are still interesting and entertaining. On this episode of the B-Sides, Johnson told some additional stories that are amazing like writing songs with Sammy Hagar and getting a song cut by Stevie Nicks. Playing guitar on one of Faith Hill's biggest hits. Having a song recorded with Santana. Writing and recording with Caleb Johnson and Jason Bonham. He even shares an incredible story about music legend Ricky Nelson. Here are the songs, artist, and albums included in this B-Sides episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast: Sammy Hagar - "Salvation on Sand Hill" Stevie Nicks - "Every Day" Faith Hill - "Cry" Santanna - "Just Feel Better" (Feat. Steven Tyler) Caleb Johnson - "Hurricane" Caleb Johnson - "Dead Man Walking Blues" If you love vinyl records, discovering new music, rediscovering music you already know, and learning about the music creators, this is the podcast for you. Tips From an Etsy Expert on How to Make More Money Online 1:17 Tips From an Etsy Expert on How to Make More Money Online with Melissa Kaiserman 25:50 Encouragement on What to Consider When Receiving Feedback Resources Business Boutique Conference The Business Boutique Conference is coming back to Nashville Oct. 24–26. Making money online has never been easier. You can start a successful business tomorrow with nothing more than an idea and a Facebook page—or, in Melissa Kaiserman’s case, an Etsy store. Melissa’s story began like so many of yours. She was using Dave Ramsey’s envelope system and wanted a wallet that would help her divide her cash into different categories. When she couldn’t find one she loved, she decided to make one herself. And then she made the “mistake” of showing it to her friends—because, of course, they all wanted her to make them one! Her wallets were a hit. This gave her the idea to simplify her design so she could create more wallets in less time and also make a profit by selling them online. She opened a shop on Etsy—A Time for Everything—and hit publish on her first wallet listing. Y’all, in just under a year, Melissa’s Etsy store was providing full financial support for her family! Related: How to Make Money on Etsy I love stories like Melissa’s because women often find it hard to believe that their talents, passions or hobbies can actually be profitable. Melissa’s story is one of many that proves it’s possible. In fact, her success on Etsy led to even more opportunities. Today, not only does she still have her online shop, but she’s also blogging and selling courses to help other people succeed on Etsy. You can see why, when it comes to the topic of making money online and successfully selling on Etsy, I wanted to talk to Melissa Kaiserman! She and I took a deep dive into all the things. We started by talking through the pros and cons of choosing Etsy as your selling platform. How to Make Money Online by Selling on Etsy There are so many good things to say about starting and growing your business on Etsy. Thankfully, Melissa was able to narrow it down to her top three pros: 1. People know about it. Etsy currently has 41 million active buyers.1 That’s right—a whole lot of people immediately think Etsy when they need a unique, handmade item. If you’re just getting started selling online, it’s going to be a while before you can get 41 million people to start scrolling through your personal website. I always tell you to hang out where your customers are. And in this case, your customers are hanging out on Etsy! 2. You’ll get organic Google searches. SEO (search engine optimization) is just a fancy term for the likelihood that your product, page or Etsy store will pop up on Google when someone searches a particular word or phrase. And the good news is, Etsy does a great job of getting products found on Google. There are also some strategies you can do on your own to increase the chances of your Etsy store showing up on Google search results. I’ll say more on that later. Related: Ep 41: Digital Marketing Strategies That Work 3. It’s easy to use. I like to think of Etsy like a “business in a box.” They make it so easy to set up a shop and maintain it. Not only does Etsy walk you through the whole process, but they also provide the tools to create a profile page and online presence. Plus, they handle the hosting, order intake, and even accept payment for you. These are all things you’d have to figure out on your own if you decided to start selling from a personal website. I know all of those pros make Etsy sound great, but I want to make sure you’re aware of some of the cons as well. Things to Consider Before Choosing Etsy: 1. You have limited control. Because Etsy handles everything for you, there are some limitations to consider. You’ll have to operate within their rules and guidelines, and you’ll be limited with how you can represent your shop online. 2. They charge fees and take a portion of your profits. Don’t be mistaken—selling on Etsy is not free! Etsy charges you 20 cents to publish each listing in your store. If your product sells, you’ll owe them a 5% transaction fee. And if you use Etsy Payments, they’ll also collect 3% plus a 25-cent payment processing fee on top of everything else. Related: Pricing Strategies: How to Set Prices 3. There will be a lot of competition. To say there are a lot of sellers and products for sale on Etsy would be an understatement. I’m talking 2.2 million sellers and more than 60 million items for sale.2 There are a lot more buyers than there are sellers, so keep in mind that Etsy wants to be as helpful as possible to the buyer. This means that even if someone is shopping in your store, Etsy will show the customer related products from someone else’s store (potentially distracting them away from your products). So, you end up competing for your customers even after you’ve gotten them to click on your page. Related: Ep 57: Standing Out From Your Competition With Your Unique Selling Proposition The competition may be fierce, but I still wholeheartedly believe that Etsy is a great place to start (and grow!) your business. That’s why Melissa and I came up with five tips you can use to maximize your Etsy shop and attract more customers. Top Five Tips for Selling on Etsy: 1. Don’t focus on the competition. I know we just talked about how competitive the marketplace is on Etsy, but if you choose to use this platform, don’t let the competition be your focus. Melissa made that mistake early on. She spent a lot of time obsessing over other shops on Etsy and looking for people who were copying her products. At the end of the day, even when she did find copycats, knowing wasn’t helpful. All it did was cause her anxiety in her first couple of years in business. She finally realized she couldn’t control what other people did. All she could control was where her focus was. 2. Do your homework and be prepared. Things like registering your business with your state and collecting sales tax is not exciting stuff, I know. But when you take care of that stuff on the front end, you’ll have the peace of mind to focus on the important stuff—like making and selling your products. Don’t wait until tax season to figure this stuff out! 3. Prioritize your photos. Etsy is a visual marketplace. When there are thousands of options for the same type of product you sell, people are going to click on whatever product looks the best. You could have the best product in the world, but if the photo is awful, people are just going to scroll right past it. Oh, and by the way, the less people click on your shop, the lower you’ll appear on Etsy’s search results. Here are a few quick tips to make sure you have top-notch photos: When you’re taking the photos, make sure the background isn’t cluttered. Use a clean, white backdrop with lots of natural light. Make it really clear what the product is. Don’t confuse buyers by cluttering a bunch of other items around your product. Yes, it’s a good idea to style your photos, but make sure your product is the focus of the shot. Give your store a clean and consistent look by photographing all of your products with a similar theme. Make sure you have at least one close-up of your product—that’s the photo you want to be your thumbnail. You can post up to 10 photos for each product, so use the more styled photos to complement the close-up. 4. Write great product descriptions. Product descriptions are so important for the customer. If you can be really detailed in your descriptions, you’ll receive fewer messages with questions that could have been answered on the product page. Here are a few quick tips for writing great product descriptions: When choosing a title for each product, use the words potential customers would use. This increases the likelihood that your product will appear during a search. That’s SEO at work! Don’t use the cute, branded name you came up with, because no one is going to search for those words! More simply put, you don’t want to make it hard for the customer to find your stuff. Again, this is exactly why you want to use keywords and keyword phrases that your potential customer would use in a search. Your images can also work as product descriptions. Show your product at scale and describe details in some of your images by including text overtop of them. This is ideal for those customers who tend to skip product descriptions! If you’re unsure about whether you provided enough details in your product description, just ask yourself: If there were no photos at all, would my customer understand what my product is? Related: 5 Steps to Writing Awesome Etsy Product Descriptions 5. Serve well. Did you know that 81% of purchases on Etsy are actually repeat purchases? 3 I’m definitely one of those customers! I remember working with a designer on Etsy to create a custom Christmas card a few years ago. She took such good care of me that the following year, I didn’t bother searching Etsy for another cute design. I just went straight to the same designer I’d worked with before. The easiest way to get repeat customers is to take really good care of them. Under-promise and over-deliver every time. Not only will they come back to you, but they’ll also tell all their friends about you. No matter what platform you end up choosing, the important thing is that you just start. I know you’ve got a lot to offer the world, and I’m willing to bet your idea can be profitable. So stop waiting until you’re ready, because “ready” is a myth. Just go for it! Encouragement: What to Consider When Receiving Feedback Earlier this year, I trained for the Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon. It wasn’t going to be my first time running a race while pregnant. I actually ran that same race when I was five months pregnant with my second son, Conley. I trained, took my time, and was able to finish the race in two and a half hours. I had a positive experience to base this year’s race on. But while I knew I’d run the race before and assumed I could probably do it again, many people didn’t feel the same way. On my first day of training for this year’s race, I was gearing up to go out on a seven-mile run. Before I started, I posted a quick update on my Instagram. Y’all, that Instagram Story got so many responses. And I quickly noticed that each response was either an encouragement or a warning. On the one hand, I got tons of messages that said things like, “Yes! You can do this! So inspiring!” And on the other hand, I got responses that said the complete opposite. People warned me and told me it wasn’t worth the harm I’d do to my body or my baby. They shared their horror stories of going into preterm labor and encouraged me not to race. These polar opposite responses made me realize one thing: When you get feedback from people (good, bad or in-between), it’s more about them than it is about you—because the feedback will come through the filter of their experience. Related: Ep 40: Top Traits of Highly Successful Women For example, the moms who ran while pregnant and had a healthy experience were telling me if they could do it, so could I, while the moms who had a scary experience warned me to avoid the mistake they’d made. Both types of feedback were a reflection of where these people were coming from. This is so important to remember in your business as well. When you ask for feedback or when you get feedback from your customers, family, well-meaning friends, or strangers on Facebook, keep in mind that while feedback is valuable and helpful, it’s also being filtered through their unique experience. You can and should learn from other people’s mistakes and take into account their tips and tricks. But you also have to keep in mind that just because someone else had that experience, it doesn’t mean you will. So, I encourage you to keep asking for feedback and advice. Just keep in mind that the unique perspectives, experiences and circumstances of the people giving the feedback can impact whether it’s helpful or not. The Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee who’s been called The Father of Nashville Rock talks about a successful career that’s seen his songs covered by everyone from Martina McBride to The Beatles. EPISODE DETAILS: PART ONE Scott and Paul talk about the last chance to enter to win a signed copy of Layng Martine's memoir, Permission to Fly, as well as ask listeners to send in their recordings they've had produced by our friend Justin at Pearl Snap Studios. PART TWO - 3:18 mark The guys talk about Rocketman, the new Elton John film, and get into a larger discussion about whether or not factual accuracy is important when it comes to music biopics. PART THREE - 11:54 mark Paul and Scott call up Buzz at his studio to get the lowdown on how he launched Nashville’s first rock band with a saxophonist who could only play one note; how gigging with Jerry Lee Lewis landed his group a job as Brenda Lee’s backup band; the time he snuck into a radio station after hours to record one of his earliest original songs; why he didn’t know The Beatles had covered one of his tunes until 20 years after the fact; which record he produced that has a dirty joke hidden in the master number on the label of the 45; the way he ended up recording as “Alvin” on the Chipmunks records; why a Bible verse inspired his biggest hit; what he thought when he heard U2’s interpretation of “Everlasting Love,” and how an album project that didn’t go anywhere still led to one of his biggest hits as a songwriter. ABOUT BUZZ CASON Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee Buzz Cason has been called The Father of Nashville Rock. He is best known as the co-writer of two R&B classics: “Soldier of Love” - which has been recorded by Arthur Alexander, The Beatles, and Pearl Jam – and “Everlasting Love,” which was recorded by Robert Knight, Carl Carlton, Gloria Estefan, and U2. Cason began his music career with his own group, The Casuals, which eventually became Brenda Lee’s backing band. He scored one Top 20 pop hit as an artist with “Look For a Star” under the name Gary Miles before hitting the charts as a songwriter with Jan & Dean’s recordings of the songs “Tennessee” and “Popsicle,” as well as Ronny & The Daytonas’ recording of “Sandy.” Robert Knight’s version of “Everlasting Love” became a Top 20 hit on both the Pop and R&B charts around the same time Cason produced soul singer Clifford Curry’s classic “She Shot a Hole in My Soul.” Cason later found success in the country market with Tommy Overstreet’s chart-topping “Ann (Don’t Go Runnin’)," T.G. Sheppard’s Top 20 hit “Another Woman,” a string of Top 40 singles with Freddy Weller, as well as Top 10 with singles by Mel Tillis and the McCarters. Martina McBride had a major country hit with “Love’s the Only House,” which Buzz co-wrote with Tom Douglas. Additionally, his songs have been recorded by a diverse range of artists, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Rick Nelson, Dolly Parton, the Oak Ridge Boys, Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson, and Placido Domingo.
In this week’s episode, I caught up again with Carrie Combs (@carriethecrohnie) to follow up on her recent race at the Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and to go deeper into some of the emotional aspects of Crohn’s Disease, along with the coping mechanisms and habits that made dealing with a Crohn’s diagnosis even more challenging. At the end of this episode we talk about the half marathon she completed in April with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Team Challenge and run down a quick gear and supplement checklist for distance running! Diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease 8 years ago, Carrie has had three surgeries, countless medication changes, and–as she puts it–a lot of really bad days. We talk about her transformation since diagnosis that took her from using food as a reward (only to find out the things she once enjoyed were causing her harm after her diagnosis), bottling up her emotions, and not asking for help, because she believed she was burdening people, to finally learning how to fill up her own personal cup of happiness and being stronger and more resilient to deal with the challenges that life with Inflammatory Bowel Disease brings. For newly diagnosed patients or family members working to understand IBD, we talk about what it’s like to feel lost in the beginning, not wanting to feel like a burden to the people we love and care about, and how finding a passion or setting goals can help in the journey. Carrie's Distance Running Gear & Supplement Recommendations: A good pair of running shoes: Highly suggest going to a local running store and getting fitted. This isn’t the place to cheap out–your feet, ankles, shins, hips, and back will thank you later. Hydration belt: Some people will use the water bottles with a handle. I personally don’t like feeling unbalanced or having anything in my hands, so I prefer a belt. Mine has a pocket for my phone so that I don’t have to have anything else on me.o https://fitletic.com/ Body glide: Any part of your body that touches repetitively over a few hour period will get chaffed if you don’t use this. It’s similar to Vaseline but won’t stain your clothes.o https://www.bodyglide.com/ Compression socks: I have erythema nodosum, which is a skin condition that is related to having Crohn's. Inflammation and joint pain are some of the symptoms. so I’ve found that a good pair of compression socks helps. Electrolytes: Nuun and Salt Stick are my go-to brands. Both are relatively inexpensive. I use one Nuun sport tablet every afternoon as part of my everyday hydration.o https://nuunlife.com/o http://saltstick.com/ Fuel for long distances: Honey stringer chews or gels. These personally are the only ones I’ve tried that don’t upset my stomach. Sunglasses: I personally use Goodr. They are available at most running stores and online. They are polarized, non-slip when you get sweaty, and only cost $25-$35o https://goodr.com/ Epsom Salt: Best feeling after a long run is soaking in Epsom salts. Lots of people also swear by ice baths for recovery, but I’m not a fan of the cold, so I’ve just never felt the need to try that, lol!

We're back this week with a humdinger of an episode that features Ralph Viera (aka Dr. Fukk) picking six songs he thinks you should hear! Ralph is a true renaissance man of rock metal. He hosts multiple live shows on That Metal Station and fronts multiple bands including Thrash or Die. Additionally, Ralph is well known in podcasting circles as the host of the Rock and Metal Combat Podcast. Each week Ralph and co-host Ian Wadley bring great knowledge and humor with an edge. We highly recommend it. [caption id="attachment_39318" align="alignright" width="350"] Ralph Viera [/caption] Equally interesting this week is our discussion at the top of the show of Vinnie Vincent. As we announced a couple months ago, Vinnie was confirmed and announced as a guest for the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo. A lot of work went into promoting his appearance and things were about to go into overdrive. However, things started changing over the past week and ultimately, Vinnie's appearance was cancelled. We share with you the story of what went down and our take on it. The Nashville invasion is now an aborted mission. Such a shame. The Nashville Rock n Pod Expo is moving forward and is expected to be a big success. Current/former members of KISS, Korn, Winger, ACCEPT, Joan Jett, Loudness, Bang Tango, Kik Tracee and more will be there. Additionally, producing legends Michael Wagener and Toby Wright are returning. More great guest and event announcements are coming soon. Nashville Rock n Pod Expo donor Kevin Williams joins us this week for a talk about Japanese Metal! In this extended episode, Kevin has the knowledge and the tunes you need. Visual Kei, extreme image coupled with music, is a dominant force in Japan. Kevin gives you the backstory of what leads up to the Visual Kei movement in Japan and spins a number of great metal tunes. [caption id="attachment_39144" align="alignright" width="350"] Japanese Metal [/caption] Japanese metal and its history is incredibly interesting. Uniquely, western bands like Black Sabbath and KISS had a definite impact on the culture. With this in mind, Kevin is connecting the dots on how that early influence lead to Visual Kei. As a result, you're getting some fantstic music from artists such as X-Japan, Exist-Trace, Vamps, MUCC, Big Bites, Quaff, Dir En Grey, Aldious, and Maximum the Hormone. We are back this week to give you our take on current rock news with New Noize V2. There are some interesting stories coming from the world of rock and we're going to cover some of our favorites. Gibson Broke? Gibson Guitar filed for bankruptcy recently. There are a lot of armchair critics. We're no exception. Listen this week to hear our thoughts on the decision making process of a legendary luthier. [caption id="attachment_38552" align="alignright" width="350"] New Noize V2 [/caption] Perry, Tyler, and...Spongebob?? Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are nominated for a Tony Award. That's not the weird part. It's in connection to a Spongebob Squarepants musical. Hear our take on this story as well as a discussion on how Spongebob may be the most metal cartoon ever. Starchild Going Solo Again? Paul Stanley recently spoke out about the possibility of another solo album as well as his thoughts on doing new music for KISS. Our thoughts on this may surprise you. Consistent Overkill? The mean, green killing machine from New Jersey, Overkill, are back at work on another album. In this episode we discuss the amazingly consistent track record of this band; always delivering top flight metal. The followup to The Grinding Wheel is sure to please fans. All Spectacle and No Substance? KISS manager Doc McGhee recently ruffled some feathers in the KISS Army with his take that, basically, the band could continue forever due to the fact that they are closer to superheroes than credible bands. His quote seemed to downplay the importance of KISS' musical legacy. Needless to say, we have a few things to say about this. Head to the Movies? Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch is headed to the big screen. His new documentary, 'Loud Krazy Love,' will be screened in Dallas and Nashville in May before a wide release in the fall. Part of the promotion for the movie will include Brian making an appearance at the upcoming Nashville Rock n Pod Expo on Saturday August 25, 2018 at the Nashville Palace. He will appear on stage for a panel about the movie and his career as well as an autograph and photo session for fans and recording with various podcasters that will be on-site at the event. More info on the movie can be found HERE and info on the expo and how to gain admission available HERE. Heavy Metal Mickey Mouse? In one of the stranger stories from the rock world this week, A new instrumental album of hard-rock covers of classic Disney songs, Disney Super Guitar, has been announced, and it features a jaw-dropping team of world-class guitarists. Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, Orianthi, Phil X, Richie Kotzen, Tak Matsumoto, George Lynch, Mike Orlando, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and Jeff Watson all contribute to the album. Each track on Disney Super Guitar features a backing band comprised of guitarist John Bruno, drummer B.J. Zampa, bassist Chris Vescera and keyboardist Michael Vescera, who co-produced the record with the album’s mastermind, producer Death-Rider. Michael Vescera will also be appearing at the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo. More info HERE. The BIG Announcement! As we've hyped for the past couple weeks, we have a BIG announcement to make this week. Veteran drummer Brent Fitz joins us this week for an entertaining talk about his life and career. Born in Winnipeg, Brent took to music early. After learning drums to a steady soundtrack of bands like RUSH, Fitz was playing the club circuit at age 15. Ultimately, a gig with Canadian band Streetheart gives Brent the confidence to make the leap to Los Angeles in 1996. Brent Fitz In the 20+ years since arriving in America, Brent Fitz has carved out quite a career. Initially cranking out great tunes with the criminally underrated Union, Brent would join up with LA stalwarts Bulletboys and Vince Neil for road work. Furthermore, this experience would help prepare Brent for his next challenge, filling the drum chair of Eric Singer in Alice Cooper's band. This long-form interview has lots of great stories from these gigs. Brent's openness and honesty paints a clear picture of what a working musician goes through during a very turbulent time for rock music. As can be seen within KISS fan circles, Brent is at ground zero for two very cool offshoot projects from members of the band. In 2017, he and fellow Slash band mate joined Bruce and Bob Kulick for a performance on The KISS Kruise. The deep cut-laden set was the talk of the Kruise. His position in the Gene Simmons Band has also been a childhood dream come true. Additionally, it was recently announced that Ace Frehley would be using Gene's band as his backing band on an upcoming tour of Australia. As a result of his childhood KISS fandom, it's entertaining to hear Brent's stories about all of these projects. This episode features tons of great stories as well as updates on Gene Simmons, the Kulick Brothers, and Slash. It also underscores the importance in rock history of Streetheart (trust us, it's pretty interesting). The Decibel Geek podcast wants to thank Brent Fitz for such an engaging, entertaining conversation. We hope you enjoy Conversation with Brent Fitz and SHARE with a friend! In an interview seven years in the making, Vinnie Vincent joins us this week. Undoubtedly one of the most intense rock records ever made, Vinnie Vincent Invasion was a natural topic choice. Our Albums Unleashed criteria is simple; discuss the making of an album we love with a key player in its creation. The debut album by Vinnie Vincent Invasion is an over-the-top, face-melting masterpiece. [caption id="attachment_38337" align="alignright" width="350"] Vinnie Vincent [/caption] Vinnie is incredibly candid in this long-form discussion. After thirty-plus years of others sharing their story on this album, it's namesake goes on on the record to share his memories. Moreover, Vinnie discusses the back story of how Invasion went from being an album title into becoming a band. Additionally, you'll hear him share revelations never heard about the studio environment for this album. Notably, the intense, meticulous nature of how this album was pieced together is an interesting story unto itself. As can be seen, 2018 is shaping up to be the comeback year of Vinnie Vincent. Since his return at the Atlanta KISS Expo in January, Vinnie has been ever-present online and in public. He's made appearances at Orlando's Spooky Empire convention as well as Gene Simmons' recent Vault Experience stop in Nashville. He's got upcoming appearances at the Chiller Theatre expo as well as Days of the Dead and a special appearance at The Gathering 3 ahead of the KISS Kruise. Vinnie recently launched his official website. You can keep track of his personal appearances and buy autographed merchandise at the online store. He's also very interactive with fans on his official Facebook fan page. The Decibel Geek Podcast truly thanks Vinnie Vincent for appearing on the show. Additional thanks to Randy Dietrich for his help setting up this interview. Also Check Out: Vinnie Vincent Reaction (Atlanta KISS Expo Recap) - Ep309 Top 5 Vinnie Vincent Solos - Ep308 Buy Music! DBG VIP and Nashville Rock n Pod Expo donor Scott Smith joins us to celebrate Women's History Month with Queens of Noize 3! While the rock genre is considered a man's world by many, our guest is here to help dispel that myth. With this in mind, you are getting a unique audio experience this week. As proven by previous legends such as the Runaways, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, and others, the now and future of women in rock is promising. Queens of Noize 3 In contrast to the past, currently there are a ton of female-led bands in the rock and metal genres. Can’t even begin to imagine the prep time these guys put into a show bringing a great wealth of knowledge ,humor and entertaining . It’s also refreshing to hear a music related podcast where the host does not talk about himself for half of it. The stars and guest that are on are always entertaining. The insight and humor is always appreciated. I learn something I didn't know almost every time. 3) The Variety: I love themed shows, Toddzilla, KISSmas in July, The featured shows (RUSH, AC/DC) and especially the Radio Sucks episodes. Chris & Aaron return this week to discuss The Heavier Side of RUSH; songs that kick a little harder from the legendary Canadian trio. RUSH, formed in 1968, and solidified in 1971 with a lineup of Geddy Lee (bass/vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and John Rutsey (drums) would find aid in manager Ray Danniels and producer Terry Brown. The self-titled 1974 debut album was filled with hard rock numbers reminiscent of Led Zeppelin. The band would ultimately break on the strength of the song 'Working Man' receiving airplay on WMMS in Cleveland. Rutsey, however, would have to retire from the road due to health complications. Enter Neil Peart. The multi-talented drummer had incredible skill not only on the kit but would go on to become the band's principal lyricist. From that point, RUSH carved their own path; releasing trailblazing albums that straddled the worlds of hard and progressive rock; building a rabid following along the way. 40-plus years later and RUSH sit, rightfully, in the upper echelon of rock music history. The Heavier Side of RUSH In this long-form RUSH-themed episode, the guys share their personal take on RUSH's history, their influence, their legacy, and more. They also spin some of their favorite heavier RUSH tunes. Using it as a helpful guide, they also discuss the awesome new RUSH: Album by Album book penned by Martin Popoff and also share how YOU can win a copy! The guys go back in time this week as they bring you 1982 Year in Review Pt1. In this long-form trip through the first half of the year, Chris & Aaron cover a lot of ground. 1982 saw some pretty historic beginnings in technology and pop culture including the Commodore 64 and Late Night with David Letterman. 1982 was also a year of loss in the entertainment community. Notably, the losses of John Belushi and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads left their mark on the movie and music industries. Speaking of Osbourne, he would cement his status as a controversial figure with two news-making incidents that shocked many. 1982 Year in Review Pt 1 1982 Year in Review Pt1 also boats a lot of great music. The first half of the year included releases from Magnum, Nazareth, UFO, Iron Maiden, Tank, Scorpions, Misfits, Van Halen, Motorhead, Uriah Heep, Cheap Trick, Status Quo, and many more. In this episode, the guys break it all down and cover the sports, movies, and pop culture of 1982. And, as always, classic commercials! New Ep! Bakko & LC have gone into hiding this week after roasting the entire Podcast industry, KISS fans and the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo on Ep 71. People! While Cobras & Fire plans its next attack, you are blessed with another round of Rob Kern's "Loud, Drunk & Angry" rock show on the Uncontrolled Noize network. Strap in for 3 hours of rock. We'd hire a psychiatrist to find out just what makes Rob Kern tick but we're pretty sure we couldn't afford the years of therapy needed for a diagnosis. Raised on Creem, Mad Magazine and stacks of KISS albums, followed by years of binge drinking has created the manchild we know and revere. Besides being a guest and friend of Cobras & Fire, Rob has been a contributing writer for Classic Rock Magazine, penned the hilarious manifesto, 33 Days In The Hole: The Chicago Experiment and directed music videos for the likes of American Dog and Stacie Collins. Rob hates modern country music and believes Sammy Hagar ruined Van Halen. Loud, Drunk & Angry encourages drinking and hopefully spurs the listening audience to break things, not from anger but from the sheer joy of hearing all things rock and roll. uncontrollednoize.com fromoutofnowhere.com 3 hours of rock and talk!

Rikki Rockett joins the guys this week for Albums Unleashed Poison Look What the Cat Dragged In. In this long-form discussion, Rikki shares stories from the early days of Poison including the decision to move from Pennsylvania to Hollywood in the early 1980's. Also in the episode, Rikki talks about the departure of original guitarist Matt Smith and an audition process that would go down to a head to head battle between Slash and CC DeVille. In this Albums Unleashed Poison Look What the Cat Dragged In special, Rikki reflects on the recording process of the album. Producer Rick Browde was on board early for the sessions but things got tense quickly due to creative differences. In this episode, Rikki also discusses the struggle to survive in a Hollywood scene that was very unforgiving. Those struggles would be played out lyrically in some of the songs. While the album was recorded on a meager budget and on limited time, it would go on to spawn three big singles and sell 4 million copies worldwide. Albums Unleashed Poison Albums Unleashed Look What the Cat Dragged In also features a track-by-track breakdown of the album including song inspirations and production techniques used. It's an hour-plus of discussion about a remarkable album from a very transitional time in popular music.
