Your Man Alex Smith is a Brisbane based independent singer songwriter with a theatrical twist. He studied at QUT and is an incredible story teller and performer which comes out in his live performances and his on screen acting with very creative music videos. Heartbreak, disapointment, depression and hardship have been the tools to shape this hard working artist into the man he is today. He says "blood sweat and tears" went into the making of his last album and continues to navigate a new covid world for the performing arts and has seen many friends go on to do amazing things within the industry. Using catchy hooks to sneak contemplative lyrics to the listener, Alex's genre-hopping theatrical rock is a story-driven experience with a lot of heart.
While Alex is inspired by bands like Queen, Meat Loaf, Pink Floyd and The Protomen, his sound is often compared to the likes of They Might Be Giants and Ben Folds.
Alex pays huge thanks to members of his Patreon, a service which greatly strengthens his connection with his audience and boosts the rate of production of his third studio release ‘Slow Burn' which is set to release June 18th Alex is also the host of podcast My Songs Suck with his close friend James Kehoe. Hopefully everyone made in through the 4th of July holiday weekend without an episode of Pink Salt. I was distraught. We're coming back strong with Alex and Lisa, a newly-wed couple with enough joy, jokes and patience for bad movies to last the lifetime they will spend together. While Alex holds nothing on quite as high a pedestal as Lisa holds Selena Quintanilla, she still appreciates his conversion into the cult following... and his developing tolerance for Puerto Rican food. These have been minimal among their challenges both as a dating couple and a married couple, and I'm honored for them to have shared those challenges with us. Cheers to them!

We talked about the impact Marcelo Bielsa has had and how Leeds is now a second team to so many. We talk about the young players in the team like Pascal Struijk and Illan Meslier.  He talked to me about how things have changed, and how Leeds is no longer a club that needs to sell their best players. He's confident that Leeds could soon be competing with the Big 6 in the Premier League. Alex used to work as a Football Journalist for a few years, he spoke to me about his experiences during this time. We discussed his hopes for Indonesian Football and when possibly supporters could be back in the stadium. He now works as a tour guide in Indonesia and posts the most beautiful images of the Islands of Indonesia. While Alex has been affected by the pandemic, he still considers himself fortunate to still be working at this time. “I would say the last 3 months have been probably the most anxious months of the last 6 years for me.” Alex Lieberman's identity for the past 7 years has been almost entirely about being the co-founder and CEO of Morning Brew. He created it from scratch, grew it to a $20m business, and then sold it for a reported ~$75m to Axel Springer, the parent company of Insider. But now all of that is in the past. While Alex will always be a co-founder of Morning Brew, he doesn't own the business anymore. And, about a month ago, an even bigger change happened: Alex stepped out of the CEO role, and his co-founder Austin Rief stepped up. Exiting is always an awkward topic. On the one hand, it can make you very rich. On the other hand, it carries with it a whole host of complicated issues: a loss of identity, a loss of purpose, and a changed relationship with the people you work with most closely. Unfortunately, most founders never talk about this to anyone beyond their inner circle. There is a fear of being seen as weak, or as a complainer. But the best leaders understand the power that comes from honest vulnerability. Fortunately, in the first few minutes of this interview Alex Lieberman refers to himself as an “oversharer.” And he doesn't shy away from talking about exactly the kinds of things that most people think they need to keep to themselves. In this interview we talk about: - What it was like to sell his business, and to move from CEO to Executive Chairman. - Why the last few months have been the most anxious of his career since founded Morning Brew - His worries about how people might perceive his move to Executive Chairman, and his relationship with his co-founder - His feelings of lost identity, and his fears around losing what he is most passionate about - His struggles with OCD and panic during his years building Morning Brew, and the ways he's worked to cope with them Alex comes off as vulnerable, honest, and extremely self-aware. We were honored to have him on, and we think you'll learn a lot from this episode. We did too.

He talks about how he prepared for launch, where did he find his audience, and how he kept engagement and excitement up during the live campaign days.   We discuss: [01:22]: Alex tells us about him and about where the inspiration came from for his first game “Dogs BOND”, which goal is to be a game that includes the whole family, and raises awareness about dog adoption. [05:34]: How Alex chose the dog breeds he included in the game, and how diversity is also something that he also took into consideration when creating his characters. [09:35]: While Alex looked for and found his audience, and how he partnered with animal shelters to create more conversations about the importance of adoption, as a way to promote his game and his awareness message further. [17:56]: Alex talks about how he created his first game prototype for his team to try out, all the way to how launch day went. [23:37]: How Alex kept being proactive during the 30 days of the campaign, and how he engaged with his audience and included their suggestions on the game. [26:45]: The main advice Alex has for first-time creators is to do the incredible amount of work there is to be done before launch, but also be prepared to jump into a live campaign knowing your campaign won’t be completely perfect. [30:09]: How to approach and help first-time backers who are not used to crowdfunding platforms. [32:59]: For Alex, the knowledge of when his project would be ready to launch depended on the dates he knew would work better for his audience and niche, and working backward starting from that point to build everything needed to be ready for launch. [36:00]: How you can get a copy of Dogs BOND! [37:11]: Alex used pre-launch emails and messages to educate the audience on the importance of early backing for the complete success of a project. What strategy did the team use when raising prices? How did Alex and his team manage their finances? In this Episode: When Alex was schooling, a mutual friend introduced him to Trevor, who later became his co-founder, who was launching a SaaS business. According to the mutual friend, Alex needed to contact Trevor for a chance to work together. However, when Alex called, Trevor claimed the project was still in its inaugural stages, but they could still collaborate when everything was ready.  Trevor loved Alex's ambition and was sure that something good would come out of his expertise. Alex maintained contact with Trevor until one day; he proposed collaboration between them. They would later launch Carrot. Alex tells Geordie the story behind acquiring the carrot.com domain. Listen to the podcast to find out.  While in college, Trevor had purchased his inaugural rental property in partnership with a family member. This step marked his entrance into the real estate investing world. Trevor had developed a website through which he could generate leads for tenants. He also used the platform to search for discounted properties. At some point, he became a consultant. Out of sharing about his experience and work on social media platforms, many people became curious, and they started approaching him in search of solutions for their websites. It is from these inquiries that the Rei conversion theme was born. Please find out how Trevor implemented the Rei theme on his customer's websites before Alex joined him. When Alex later joined Trevor, the business was still an agency seeing that he (Trevor) was running his operations manually. Alex left at some point and rejoined the team later on. During his (Alex's) absence, Trevor was struggling to upload themes and contracted out Chris (the other co-founder) to help him out. Surprisingly, Chris completed the massive work in less than half an hour. Impressed, Trevor invited Chris to help him automate the agency into a SaaS platform. Find out how the team executed the process from the podcast. Alex would later rejoin the team as a marketing expert, which he has outgrown to become the director of operations. He also talks about the transition period from an agency to a SaaS platform you cannot afford to miss.  After converting the agency to SaaS, Alex and his team needed to market it to reach a wider audience. He mentions that they did not have a hard time achieving that, seeing that Trevor was already famous on social media platforms. According to Alex, Trevor played a massive role in marketing the platform to multiple industry partners. He talks about other strategies they used to promote the platform that you can learn about from the podcast. Alex tells Geordie about their big break moment, which you should hear to grab the details.   Alex talks about navigating their content marketing and the effort they invested in getting things right. Why did the team spend a lot of time on content generation? Did they achieve growth from content marketing? Listen to the podcast to find out. Alex says they experienced growth from investing in paid ads, affiliates, and adding members to the team. He mentions that a significant percentage of their growth came from organic traffic. What impact did COVID have on the company? Alex says they were not adversely affected. Listen to the podcast to figure out how they survived the period. After a long gap between pay per views Bilal has largely lost interest in most of the programs and isn't expecting much. Daniel is still very invested and excited for Sunday's show. While Alex.... just wants more Shaq! While the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley looks interesting its hard for anyone to see a title change taking place right after Jon dropped the title to Kenny. When it comes to the AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks are taking on the Inner Circle's Chris Jericho and MJF you do have a solid chance of the titles at least changing hands with some intrigue around future programs. Who will face Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women's Championship? AEW didn't care enough to update their website after Dynamite so why should we? The Street Fight between Brian Cage and Ricky Starks of Team Tazz and Sting along with TNT Champion Darby Allin promises no TNT or FTW title changes and makes us wish it was a cinematic match. As for the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match this really feels like an after thought that hopefully overdelivers on the night with little to no build. The Big Money Match between Matt Hardy and Hangman Page should be fun but is silly as a concept. There is also the Casino Tag Team Match which could go any number of directions and that's a good thing!

Located just outside of Freeport Michigan, Alex Fox is a second generation meat processor.  Owner and operator of Fox Farms Processing.  Their outfit handles custom exempt domestic slaughter and butchering, along with processing deer in the fall.  Alex has a background in animal sciences from MSU along with growing up at a processing facility,  his processing job is as much a passion as a profession.  What more could you ask for, from the experts who are charged with caring for your deer.  Touring the facility, efficiency and cleanliness are very apparent.  His openness and transparency encourages his customers to come back year after year.  While rumors and lore surround the profession of processors, like backstrap stealing and mixing of deer parts, these fallacies were put to rest in this episode.  As a hunter, Alex enjoys the job and being a part of memories made, as hunters truck in their trophy deer, take pictures, and even has a check station during the gun opener in Michigan. The reason for getting your venison processed by a profession could be for a lot of reasons; being new to processing, not having equipment, not having time, or unfavorable conditions.  Alex gives some pointers on helping the professionals give you the best quality venison in return.Cleanliness is Deliciousness.  Do your best to bring in your deer clean.  The field dress process can be messy, but don’t put the job of cleaning your kill on the processor.  Fully gut, and rinse.Get it all out.  Either it's the taboo or the fact that its “ichy”, but get all the gut out and remove the anus.  While Alex is willing to get the extra mile in getting it out, it might be too late by the time he can get it, and the results is meat lossSoon rather than later.  If the professionals are going to be cutting your deer, save the aging for inside the bag.  An extra day in uncontrolled heat for the sake of aging could result in more gamey off flavors than intended.Ask questions, understand expectations.  Alex loves his job and loves to answer questions and show off the facility.  Approach your cutters with questions you have,  understand that they will do the best job they can to get the 60% return.  Gut, hide, and head are heavy, so know what is usable and going to be returned to you. This is their craft, their service to you.  Appreciate the work.  These processors want nothing more than you love your venison and meat treats.  They want you to come back.  Know your cutters, know their facility, and stifle the rumors.  Ultimately the condition of your venison starts with the release of the arrow, or pull of the trigger.Huntavore is Powered by Simplecast

Banter, Bollywood and Beyond

For this episode, we go off the beaten Bollywood track a little- don't worry, we'll be back there again shortly- and look at Vijaya Mehta's 1988 drama, Pestonjee.  The film is set in the Parsi community, a group which is frequently underrepresented in popular culture (although there was this guy you might know called Freddie Mercury who was of Parsi-Indian descent). Having grown up in Mumbai, which has a large Parsi community, Smytta takes this opportunity to explain their history, character and identity, and how the film reflects this.  Despite its Mumbai setting, this is definitely not a Bollywood film. Pestonjee is made in the mould of Indian Parallel Cinema, a movement which shunned the excesses of mainstream Indian cinema. This means no singing and dancing, and a focus on realism.  The result does create a difference in opinion between Alex and Smytta. While Alex is bowled over by the performances and character development, Smytta's patience is tested by the lack of youthful energy, even though she enjoys a star turn from Naseeruddin Shah. However, if you like understated character drama, strap in for an exploration of this beautiful film.  Note 1: Apologies for a smoke alarm beeping you may hear in this episode. It has since been fixed, and will not be a feature of future broadcasts, you'll be delighted to hear.   Note 2: Smytta mentioned, as a slip of the tongue, that the characters were not Parsees. She of course meant the main actors are not Parsees.  Next Week's Episode: Mother India

Alex Coren is the co-founder and chief innovation officer of Wambi, an employee recognition platform for health care environments powered by the voices of patients and their families. While Alex was the Director of Patient Experience at a company caring for catastrophically ill, medically complex patients within multiple acute-care hospitals, it was her responsibility to ensure patients and their families had the best possible experiences during their stay. Through her observations, she realized that patient satisfaction was highly dependent on interactions with caregivers. At the time, Alex also discovered that caregivers at each of the facilities shared that there was poor morale, which influenced their energy levels. In addition, administration was beginning to connect its poor caregiver job satisfaction with turnover and how this impacted patient care and their bottom line. In an attempt to improve satisfaction among caregivers and ultimately patient experience, Alex met with caregivers across each of the facilities to understand the root cause of this lack of engagement, and it became clear that it was mainly due to not feeling appreciated for their hard and life-changing work. This is when Alex decided to create and build a caregiver recognition system that would service to increase engagement, improve morale, and ultimately provide better caregiver-patient experiences. Under Alex’s vision, Wambi was created to emphasize the incredible impact that caregivers’ compassion can play within the patient recovery process. Alex believes that integrating the voices of patients, families, caregivers, and administrators into a seamless positive feedback loop will successfully bring compassion back to the forefront of healthcare. As the Chief Innovation Officer, Alex conceived of and developed the technology powering Wambi. She oversaw UI design, wire-framing, branding/ graphic development, and testing/ iteration, and worked closely with David Jones, Wambi’s Chief Technology Officer, to bring her vision to fruition. Alex’s dream for Wambi is to infuse mindfulness and compassion into the healthcare industry by recognizing compassionate care, all in hopes to elevate patient and family experiences.

Our special guests are Voice123 Co-Founder Tania Zapata and CEO Rolf Veldman. In his spare time he volunteers as a political advisor for Neocratia, where they use technology to shape the future of democracy! Back in 2002, Alexander Torrenegra and Tania Zapata were recently married and had just moved to New York. He was freelancing as a webmaster and online marketing consultant for several clients; she was a radio hopeful who wanted to break into television, advertisements, as well as video games, and was working as a sales associate at Banana Republic. They often joked that their 35-square-meter studio apartment was so small they had to leave to let the sunlight in. Tania’s voice acting aspirations got repeatedly mauled in the maze of casting directors, managers, recording studios, paymasters, and agents in the city. In fact, one so-called ‘talent agent’ charged her a thousand dollars for a photo shoot. To be a professional voice actor apparently, being beautiful was also a prerequisite. The agent never delivered—and disappeared with the deposit. Tania was devastated and her frustration palpable. There seemed to be no way to advance her career in the voice-over business without pandering to the whims and abuses of the middlemen, but she was determined to find one. Alex decided to help her. Together they started researching the processes involved. They realized that the advent of broadband Internet would allow them to create a website with simple algorithms—algorithms that could automate and replace what middlemen were doing. The idea of a global marketplace that could quickly connect established voice actors with potential buyers while also offering aspiring voice actors the opportunity to grow their professional careers, was such an obvious one. Well, wasn’t it? They found nothing on the ’Net. In January 2003, they started working on the idea. While Alex coded, Tania collated and compiled lists of email addresses—actors they would invite to join the marketplace as soon as the website was ready. Alex diligently hammered his nights and weekends away on a keyboard. Tania worked whenever her crazy shifts at Banana Republic allowed some free time. To speed up the process, they employed a friend in Bogotá, Colombia to help code part-time. On June 13, 2003—five months into the project—the website launched: Voice123. Because booking a voice actor was going to be as easy as 1-2-3. Tania had collected over ten thousand email addresses. She started sending them out. They were hoping for a 10% conversion rate. To their surprise, the conversion rate was twice that. Voice actors loved the idea. Before long, they had thousands of voice actors ready to be matched with clients. On June 16th, they started running pay-per-click ads. A few hours later, a client posted the very first job on Voice123. Alex and Tania laughed and hugged and wept. The journey had begun and barely three months later, they had a functional marketplace. To cover hosting, salaries, and marketing costs, they developed a subscription model and began providing Premium memberships in early September. By the end of the month, they had over $3,000 in revenue. The following month, Tania quit Banana Republic to become full-time CEO of Voice123. The appointment of subsequent team members started in January 2004. Today, over 200,000 voice actors are registered in Voice123’s database, and millions of auditions have been processed. Thousands of actors now have flourishing careers in over 100 countries. Voice123’s client list includes companies like Pixar, the History Channel, Electronic Arts, and Pandora, to mention only a few. Tania is the CEO of Akily, a free adaptive child development app for modern parenting that wants to democratize children's development. She also co-founded Torre, a group of brands that are making work fulfilling for everyone; among them is Voice123 and VoiceBunny. Besides their own ventures Alex Torrenegra and Tania ...

While we were saddened to hear of the illness of Reverend Jesse this week, his sermon was capably filled in by his brother Reverend Alex Brown. While Alex himself wasn’t 100% he gave us a lot to think about with his Sermon entitled “What’s Love Got To Do With It?. Again thanks to Alex this week for filling in, and please pray for All our pastoral staff, with special concideration for Reverend Alex and Reverend Jesse. While Alex has found success in his life being the co-founder of Bizzy Coffee, an Ironman, and a mentor to young entrepreneurs around the country, he also has experienced his fair share of failures. Leaving college, he was going to start a business out in California, and his business partner quit. He has raised over $1 million for a product line that completely flopped. When he was 28, he had to live at his Mom and Dad's place for two years because he couldn't afford living on his own. Despite all of this, he now sells the #1 selling cold brew coffee on Amazon. In those low moments, why did he not quit? Why could he persist on and chase his dreams? Because he wanted to see what he was capable of. Well, this mindset paid off. In this interview, we talk about: his story too now, managing the highs and lows of the entrepreneurial journey, finding the right business partner, and his advice for young entrepreneurs in today's world.
