The fall and early winter have been active with multiple rounds of rain and mountain snow in the West. While this has helped to alleviate any drought conditions and boosted the snowpack, the ground is becoming saturated. AccuWeather meteorologists warn that the continued precipitation will increase the risk of flooding and mudslides. With Christmas this week, more people will be traveling by plane, train and automobile. The repeated rounds of rain and snow are likely to cause people to drive more slowly and also delay airport travel. Travel conditions could begin to deteriorate as early as Monday in cities such as Seattle and Portland. AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Heather Zehr said, "travelers immediately ahead of the Christmas holiday will have to contend with wet roads along much of the West coast, from the Canadian border to California.” Also, authorities in Florida are urging residents to steer clear of wild monkeys roaming the state. In a Facebook post on Dec 16, the Orange City Police Department warned people not to feed monkeys after numerous sightings have been reported. Authorities say they've received multiple recent reports of monkey sightings in Orange City, approximately 30 miles north of Orlando. Similar sightings have been noted in nearby Deltona and DeBary. Officials are advising locals not to feed the monkeys and are requesting that any sightings be reported to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Hello to you listening in DeBary, Florida!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I've been mulling over this predicament posed in Seth Godin's blog post dated 10th June 2023: how to tackle having too much competition.According to Godin you have two choices:“Broaden your offerings, make them easier, cheaper and more available. Dumb them down and race to the bottom.Or…Focus on the customers who care enough about your idiosyncratic and particular offerings that they'll not only happily walk away from the lesser alternatives, but they'll tell the others.”Here's what charms me: that my “idiosyncratic and particular offerings” attract the right clients, the happy clients, the repeat clients as well as the others that they tell.Question: How do you tackle too much competition? Ashley D'Acunto and her husband Israel Erazo have not slowed down since they first opened Phat Ash Bakes three years ago in the middle of the pandemic. In March 2022, the pair moved into their brick-and-mortar bakery, 912 N. Mills Ave., and since then, have partnered with Foxtail Coffee Co. “We are in one location right now,” D'Acunto said. “It's the foxtail coffee that's on East Colonial Drive and they have — it's called the Cookie Phactory by Phat Ash Bakes. So it's not under our exact name, but you'll see the cookies right when you walk in.” The couple has also partnered with several other restaurants and coffee shops around Central Florida, including Goodfellas in DeBary, Propagate Social House in Apopka and Grilled Cheezus, which the pair share a building with. It is quite an impressive footprint for the couple considering they started selling their cookies out of their home kitchen on Instagram. “I was working at Lululemon at the time, and they closed the store because of COVID,” D'Acunto said. “And then I realized that I could really focus on (baking). And (Erazo) helped me build it into a business. But we started out of our apartment, and then expanded into a rental commercial kitchen, or Commissary Kitchen, that we were sharing with other businesses, and then we outgrew that and (Erazo) found a building downtown that we were able to buy and move our whole operation in there.” The space in Orlando's trendy Mills 50 neighborhood has also allowed the pair to bring people into their shop to experience their brand of cookie baking firsthand. The couple call the experience “Bake Nights.” “You come in, we give you dough, and we tell you how we make cookies,” D'Acunto said. “But, it's your cookie journey. So you could do whatever you want. No rules.” The student bakers are given a range of 15 to 20 mix-ins for their dough, along with different fillings and toppings they can use to mix and match to make their own custom cookies. Customers can also bring their own ingredients as well, which has led to some inspiration for the couple. “The last one was this S'mOreo Crunch. People were putting just marshmallows and Oreos together a lot and it looked awesome when it came out of the oven because it was like, melty and gooey and just delicious. So we kind of added onto that flavor and we made our own version of that,” D'Acunto said. On the latest episode of Florida Foodie, D'Acunto and Erazo talk more about the 250 flavors of cookies to offer. The pair also talk about their charitable work and some of the custom cookie options they offer. Please follow our Florida Foodie hosts on social media. I was thrilled to chat with JdB after the monumental years he had with 2020 and 2021. More than that, I've always found him to have such an inclusive outlook on the industry, and a fascination with that his voice brings to the overall conversation. Interviewing someone with the number of accolades his bio holds is always intimidating, but his warmth, grace, and hospitality made for a great conversation. In this episode, I chat with JdB about his decision to not drink alcohol in 2020, why he chose to create Proteau, and the future on the n/a space. John deBary is a 10-plus year veteran of New York City's bar and hospitality industry, starting out as a bartender at PDT before going on to become the Momofuku restaurant group's first corporate bar director. In 2018 he left Momofuku to write a cocktail book, Drink What You Want, founded Proteau, a zero-proof botanical drinks company, as well as co-founded Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life for laborers in the hospitality industry. He's also Food52's first resident drinks expert where he hosts a monthly YouTube show. As a freelance journalist, he has bylines in Bon Appetit, Thrillist, GQ, Food & Wine, and PUNCH, and he occasionally moonlights as a drinks and hospitality consultant for private and corporate clients. Founded in 2016, the mission of Ben's Friends is to offer hope, fellowship, and a path forward to anyone who struggles with substance abuse or addiction. By coming together, starting a dialogue, and acknowledging that substance abuse cannot be overcome by isolation and willpower alone, Ben's Friends hopes to write a new chapter in the lives of food and beverage professionals across the country. The Halloween countdown is on, and there were nothing but treats galore on today's show. Jordan from Store 3606, Debary, Florida, won the ultimate treat as Associate of the Day. Adding a healthy dose of paranoia to the show, AJ from Walmart InfoSec stopped by to chat with Bo about Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Debbie from Sam's Club 8155 in Gainesville, Florida, landed a sweet victory on Yes or No Way Bo. We also celebrated some scary awesome Milestones: Michelle at Store 3430 in Midwest City, Oklahoma, celebrated 40 years with Walmart, while BG reached a major “ghoul” of 35 years at Club 8284 in Nashville, Tennessee. Stephanie at Club 6401 in Tampa, Florida, also reached 30 years with the company. Finally, Bo's Impossible Question asked: The average distance we would travel for this is 4.3 miles. What is it? Tune in to find out the sweet and surprising answer!
It's National Chocolate Day, which was perfect because it gave Bo and Iyube a chance to tell our associates we like you a “choco-lot.” Someone who feels the same way about his team is our Associate Caller of the Day, Matt from Store 558 in Salina, Kansas, who called with a shoutout to his new store manager. We also heard from Jordan at Store 3606 in Debary, Florida, who solved a sweet Detective Product – do you think you can do the same? In Milestone Minute, the guys celebrated some serious time with the team: Carolyn from Store 240 in Commerce, Texas, has been with Walmart for 40 years! Kathy from Club 6679 in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, celebrated 35, and Susan from Store 1596 in Bolingbrook, Illinois, celebrated 30 years. And in Bo's Impossible Question of the Day, things get Halloween-y. Only one in three people say they're actually any good at this fall activity. What is it? Join us for all that and more, on The Bo Show!

This session explores what that impact looks like, as well as what the future might hold. Also addressed is the importance of deciding how to assess options and how to measure church vitality, as well as the impact on the pastoral role going forward. Session 3 of a four-part webinar held May-June 2020. The series focused on a key challenge EPC churches have faced over the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how each could become an opportunity for greater ministry impact. Each presentation was led by EPC pastor who are themselves small (ordinary) church practitioners. Presented by the EPC Smaller Church Network.

A new state law that went into effect in January permits police to ticket drivers who stay in the fast lane instead of using it to pass. Increasingly states are enacting laws permitting police to ticket those who stay in the left lane since it not only is poor driving, but it can be dangerous, putting other drivers at risk. To read more about Arizona's law click here. Great Smoky Mountains National Park leads country with most visitors in 2019 MIKE Ever wonder which American national parks get the most visitors? The Great Smoky Mountains National park received the most visitors with 12.5 million in 2019, followed by the Grand Canyon National Park at 5.97 million and the Rocky Mountains National Park at 4.7 million. The figures were released last week and showed 327.5 million visitors to all of the national parks in 2019, up by 2.9 percent from 2018. Also, the 2019 visitors number was the third highest recorded since 1904. Volunteer RVers help repair Florida's Caverns State Park campground so site can soon reopen from Hurricane Michael JENNIFER A team of RVers descended on Florida's Caverns State Park to help officials restore the campground devastated by Hurricane Michael in October 2018. Contractors did some repairs but much still needed to be done, and Florida state park staff were limited in how much time they could spend restoring the campground. So, the team of volunteers descended and completed almost all of the jobs, leaving just one - involving the campground's well- to be done before the site can reopen. Click here to see our visit to the state park before Hurricane Michael hit. Space heater, extension cords blamed for fire in Florida RV park that claimed two lives MIKE A very sad story out of Florida last week highlighted a couple, snowbirds, who died in their RV because of a fire at the Highbanks Marina Camp and resort on West Highbanks Road near the Central Florida town of Debary. While fire officials were still investigating, it appeared to be caused by a space heater. Apparently multiple space heaters, extension cords and power strips were in use in the RV. In a report on fire safety we did a few years back, we learned there are about 1,000 RV fires each year, and space heaters are a common cause. Our heart goes out to the loved ones of this RVing couple, and we thought it could be helpful to share this post, to remind us all on what we can do to reduce the likelihood of accidentally starting a fire while we camp.

Hospitality expert and social servant John deBary discusses his extraordinary and (unfortunately) unique not-for-profit The Restaurant Worker's Community Organization. (Unfortunate because there should be organizations like this everywhere). This is a very important interview where we discuss less about developing your own mindful savviness and more about developing awareness about the greater structural issues of the hospitality industry. All of this true:Equal opportunity and quality of life are such bigger issues in the restaurant industry than you think they are. Workers don't know their rights and employees don't even know what rights they are unwittingly denying their workers. It's strange how people care more the treatment of the animals they are about to eat (i.e. was it grass-fed, free range, generally raised humanely, etc.) and less about the treatment of the human beings involved in providing them with a service.Good service in restaurants means most of the nitty-gritty of what's involved is invisible to those experiencing it (i.e. they hardly notice their plates being cleared and definitely don't see who's washing it nor do they need to concern themselves with the quality of life of those washing it). I wonder how much conditioning I have around the importance of maintaining this veneer and what we need to do about the disconnect between those receiving a service and all the struggle (and often: human exploitation) that actually goes into it. The tipping system in restaurants is a legacy of American slavery and to this day continues to drain the employees of their power and perceived value. Its effect on wage structure has untold impact on how companies treat their employees. (Obviously don't stop tipping or the people serving you don't get paid - but think about any other situation where you can decide how much someone serving you gets paid based on how the experience tickled your whimsy.)John and RWCF are doing extraordinary things to help shift restaurants in NYC and the whole country to caring organizations with the capacity to improve the lives of its workers. Listen to the full episode to hear about this inspiring work and see how you can get involved and raise the bar in your community. All Roads That Lead To (and from) John DeBary:The Restaurant Worker's Community OrganizationThe Restaurant Worker's Community Organization (Instagram)Proteau Proteau (Instagram)John deBary (Instagram)John deBary (Twitter)Go Deeper Into The Mindful Service Movement:Explore The Book ToC w/ Live Content LinksJoin the Facebook Community & Bring Us Your Service Struggles & Insights!Follow Me on Instagram & Learn Mindful Ninja MovesSubscribe/Review on i-Tunes & I'll Mail You A Basket of KittensVisit my partner: Institute for Organizational MindfulnessSupport the show (https://donorbox.org/support-serve-conscious)

A 43-year-old DeBary woman was killed Wednesday night when she turned left from West Highbanks Road onto South Shell Road in DeBary. Preliminary investigation indicates she turned her Lexus into the path of a Ford F-1350. The truck collided with the Lexus. The area had been closed to traffic since the crash occurred just before 5:30 pm. Catherine Clark was the lone occupant in her vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Clark was not wearing a seatbelt.
""It was November 2016 and I was freaking the fuck out. A lifetime of undiagnosed mental illness, and a few traumatic events culminated on election night, and I was broken."" This is the origin story of the Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation. As co-founder, John deBary writes, he was left stunned and with the ""recognition that those with privilege have a moral imperative to support marginalized people."" He decided to start with what he knew. He reached out to Alex Pemoulié, a former colleague at Momofuku, and they began brainstorming ways for the restaurant community to brace for the next four years. They hatched a plan to start a nonprofit to act as a hedge fund that would raise money, invest it, and use the returns fund progressive social change. deBary ran the idea by his husband Michael (who has spent his entire career in the philanthropic sector), who confirmed that their goals had much in common with the mission of many population-focused community foundations like Stonewall Community Foundation and New York Women’s Foundation. In late 2018, the Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation held an event to announce its launch as an advocacy and action nonprofit created by and for restaurant workers. By addressing quality-of-life issues that disproportionately affect restaurant workers – 40% of whom live on poverty-level wages – RSCF aims to strengthen the workforce and increase opportunities for advancement in the industry to more people. We're so honored to have John deBary (Co-Founder) and his husband Michael Remaley (Board Treasurer) on this episode of HRN Happy Hour. We also have a short call-in with Chef Paul Verica of The Stanley in Charlotte to talk about the upcoming Charleston Wine + Food Festival! HRN Happy Hour is powered by Simplecast.

Our conversation with Julia and John covers a ton of ground – from the Atlanta restuarant scene and non-alcoholic cocktails to solitude and skin care. Julia Bainbridge was most recently Food Editor of Atlanta Magazine, and is an accomplished writer with work in everything from Bon Appetit to Playboy. She's the creator and host of The Lonely Hour, a podcast about loneliness–but it’s not a bummer. Julia has created a space to talk openly in hopes of both de-stigmatizing loneliness and underscoring the joys of solitude. John’s one of the biggest cocktail and bar experts out there. He got his start at PDT, and has spent many years with Momofuku. He is now working on writing his debut book and creating a nonprofit that will improve the daily lives of professional restaurant workers.

Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com Podcast-This episode is dedicated to breaking down the Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 motorcycle electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuner. We have tested this motorcycle EFI tuner on multiple 2014 and newer Harley Davidson motorcycles for many months now. Oscar is on hand in this episode to dive into the technical aspects. We break it down into an easy to understand guide for bikers/motorcyclists out there. This is a follow-up to podcast episode #81 where we talked about the Dynojet Power Vision vs. the Fuelpak 3. Admittedly, on that episode we stated that we were further testing the Fuelpak 3. Wow, we have learned much more about this EFI tuner since then and we wanted to share it all with you. As we have said many times in the past, if you change the pipes, mufflers, or air intake on your Harley Davidson like so many do, then you will need to tune your electronic fuel injection for optimum performance. And we think the Fuelpak 3 is a very good option for bikers to do so. This little compact EFI tuner packs a big punch and no install of larger O2 sensors is needed! It tunes off the stock 12mm O2 sensors that come stock on Harley Davidson's. There are no extra wires running up your bars to a head unit, as everything runs via bluetooth to an app on your smartphone! Don't waste your money having a dealership tune your Harley's EFI. All they will do is charge you $250-$300 for 5 minutes time and give your bike a one time basic EFI map. And if you change any little thing in the future you will be back paying another $250! With aftermarket tuners such as the FP3 you can change anything you want and just remap anytime you want. The FP3 is super easy to install with our Free Fuelpak 3 Install & Auto Tuning Video. We show you how to use & set up the free very intuitive V&H FP3 smartphone app. Additionally, we show you how to flash the engine control module (ECM) on your Harley directly from the app and run auto tune sessions to program your EFI further if you want. You will be up and running on no time at all. We made this video for every day bikers in an easy to understand format. Understand that the Fuelpak 3 is as capable as any other motorcycle EFI tuners on the market at this tim in our opinion. And we have done much testing and real world use of many EFI tuners. If you are an advanced user and want to manually enter values into the FP3 then you can. Oscar can get really technical with the FP3. I on the other hand use it for a simple EFI map download and auto tune sessions. And I love viewing real-time engine data within the smartphone app. I mount my my smartphone on my handlebars using a Biker Gripper, the sleekest, strongest, sexiest and best motorcycle cell phone mount on the market. This is just a snippet of what we actually talk about in this episode, so take a listen if you want to know everything there is to know about the Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3. It gets our full recommendation after much use and testing! •Free Fuelpak 3 Install & Auto Tuning Video Other EFI Tuner Resources: •Podcast Episode 81-Dynojet Power Vision & FuelPak 3 •Episode 34-Resource Page-Explanation and Intro to EFI Tuners-Do You Need One? •DynoJet Powervision Install Video •DynoJet Power Commander V Install Video •DynoJet Auto Tuner Install Video Consider using our Affiliate Links to purchase items if you find this free information useful. Host Holly G is at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championships. It's also the eve of the second event of the 2015 FedEx Cup playoffs, The Deutsche Bank Championship. Last week it was all Jason Day as he won The Barclays, his fourth event of the season, running away from the competition once again. On Sunday Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in a talks to Holly to talk about Jason Day's confident play of late. Bob feels that once again that once you break through things get easier. Day shot a 63-62 to run away with the event. Bob talks to Holly G about when is the last time that two players have been in the hunt for the Player of the Year. Jordan Spieth winning two majors and two other events and how well he has played. On the other hand, now you have Day who has won a major and three other events with one of those being a FedEx Cup event. There's a possibility that Day could sweep the FedEx Cup and how would that stand up against what Spieth has done in the eyes of their peers who vote for POY? Bob said that Spieth finished first, first, fourth and second in the majors this year so that may be the stat that seals it for Spieth. And he was one stroke away from being in the playoff at the Open Championship which could've been three in a row for Jordan. It's been one of the greatest years is major championship history. Holly and Bob discuss Rory McIlroy's chances battling through injuries and how he might play the rest of the FedEx Cup playoffs this year? Bob said that Rory is more fresh now. He can play one week, get a week off and then play two in a row. Bob feels that it is a good decision by Rory to play how he has this past month. Then a hard European Tour finish after that. Bob and Holly talk about who has to make the biggest move this week to help their cause going forward. Hunter Mahan has been in eight straight Tour Championships since the FedEx Cup playoffs have started. If you get to Atlanta, you are putting at least 150,000 in your retirement account. He's 91st in points and has a lot of work to do this week to get to the BMW. The Top 5 get to control their destiny in the FedEx Cup. May be one of the debatable things about the FedEx Cup format. Day can win the next two and may not win it all. Someone who is 2, 3, 4 or 5 can win the title if they win the last event. Bob feels, that it's hard to play these big tournaments in consecutive weeks so it's great that they have a week off after this Mitch Laurance, host of Golf Connections on PlayGolfGetaways.com , talks to Holly about the World Ams and 57 courses being played. There are about 3,500 golfers and about 70 or so flights. Players play four different golf courses during the event and experience all of the facets. There are also amazing deals at the 19th Hole, the food, the free cocktails, etc. There are also so many side competitions going on and events for participants to compete in. John Daly was at the World Am right after being in the hospital for a collapsed lung. Mitch said he got to spend some time with Daly and ask him how he was doing and ... John said "Okay, but added he was still scared." Mitch said it really is a mind boggling place with all the great golf courses in the area and the World Amateur event each year. For more information on the World Amateur or to compete next year, visit www.myrtlebeachworldamateur.com/ Jeff Shain, Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette in Hilton Head, S.C. and a contributor to PGATour.com, calls in from nearby Hilton Head to talk to Holly G about Jason Day's recent accomplishments on Tour. Very impressive but befuddled some of the top players in the world. Jeff feels that once a player crosses over and wins one of the biggest events it really goes a long way in boosting their confidence where they can start winning more. Holly asks Jeff about Brian Harman's two aces in one tournament. He was buying drinks and they were all doubles. Maxed out his credit card. Brian has a good year but hasn't been a contender this year like last year when he won. Jeff discusses the second event of the FedEx Cup and the top players. Interesting to have the three guys together in Spieth, Day, and McIlroy. Jeff mentions the fact that Sergio Garcia is not playing the Deutsche Bank and was not at The Barclays. It's a big gamble just playing the last two events, but is an interesting strategy. Jeff says that in the past it seems that there are players who are just on the periphery in the standings that get hot and win it all like Horschel did last year. Jeff said it could be Robert Streb. Wrapping up the hour of intelligent golf talk radio Holly talks to one of the featured golf courses on The Golf Insiders Golf Card, Justin Awtrey the General Manager of the DeBary Golf and Country Club. Justin talks about the renovations that were recently done to the course and the grand reopening. The country club put in some new Tiff Eagle greens and tilled them all. What has happened to customer service? Do business not train their people or do they train them to act as they are acting? I am disgusted, frustrated and sometimes even mad. Where has compassion, common sense and logic gone?
