Ramon “Ray” Cossio is a 12-year veteran of the Marine Corps, where he served as an infantry squad leader, platoon sergeant, and martial arts-instructor trainer. During his time in service, he deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 and participated in operation Red Wings, Iraq in 2006 during the “Surge”, and once again Afghanistan in 2011 to Sangin, Helmand Province. DESPITE THE FIRING OF WARNING SHOTS, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RAPIDLY CLOSE ON THE CHECKPOINT. AS THE TRUCK NEARED, HE ENGAGED IT WITH HIS M240G MACHINE GUN, KILLING THE DRIVER. OUT OF CONTROL, THE VEHICLE CAREENED DIRECTLY INTO HIS TOW VEHICLE, STRIKING IT VIOLENTLY AT OVER 25 MILES PER HOUR. How do you advocate without being an activist in the military? Are they separate?  Can you rock the boat without tipping it over? How do you move the needle on inclusion in spaces that are dead set against your presence?  How do you criticize a policy and maintain your obligation to the chain of command from leadership?  How do you use media to tell your story when seeking a broader change? We will address these critical topics as I chatted with Blake Dremann about how he succeeded on active duty and became a face of a cause. At the same time, the politicians debated what was then (and still is) a controversial issue. He has taught me so much in my advocacy journey and how to push for change correctly. Commander Blake Dremann serves as the Supply Officer and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul – Logistics Deputy Director at Fleet Readiness Center – East in Cherry Point, NC. Commander Dremann is a native of St. Louis, MO.  He is a 2003 graduate from Ozark Christian College, received his commission through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL, in 2006, and attended Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA. Dremann's operational assignments include Supply Officer, USS Maine (SSBN 741), earning Maine's second Logistics Excellence Award and recipient of the 2015 Vice Admiral Robert F. In this episode, Joe is joined by Scott Patterson, a Marine Corps veteran and the founder of Tumble. Scott served for 11 years in the Infantry before transitioning into the civilian sector. While staying with a friend in San Francisco, he became frustrated with the outdated and unreliable laundry set up in the apartment building and at his local laundromat. Scott shares with Joe how he entered the laundry industry and how Tumble is now in hundreds of buildings across multiple states. Check out Tumble here.      About Our Guest   Scott Patterson founded Tumble in 2019 with a mission to modernize the laundry experience. After serving 11 years in the United States Marine Corps, Patterson was trained to be diligent about his laundry. Upon leaving the marines, Patterson moved into a friend's apartment in San Francisco where he was shocked to see dirty laundry rooms with broken machines, stolen clothes and unreliable customer service.  Coalescing his extensive military training with his passion for technology as a means to improve quality of life, Tumble was born with the goal of modernizing this highly-desired amenity. Tumble first launched in San Francisco in 2021 and has since scaled across California, with plans to be in 200 cities and 25 major metros by June 2023.  Patterson's experience assembling highly-specialized teams has proven successful as he continues to identify and partner with experts in the field. As the organization's leader, his focus remains on product innovation, talent acquisition, partnership development and expansion efforts as the team continues to grow.  Prior to starting Tumble, Patterson was an innovation designer at Accenture, in San Francisco, where he honed his skills across research and development, design and emerging technology. During his time in the United States Marine Corps, Patterson served first as unit infantry leader, where he acted as a senior enlisted advisor to the platoon commander and maintained accountability of all personnel. While at that post, he was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for superior performance. He later served as Operation Chief, where he consulted with the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, First Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant and coordinated all company operations for 160 Marines with higher levels of leadership at the battalion level.   Join the conversation on Facebook! In this episode of The Real ResQ, we are joined by Jason Vaughn, US Navy Rescue Swimmer.  We had a wicked fun conversation beginning with a story about a rescue he had while serving in the Navy.  Jason talks about a vessel that was trying to dump their cargo to prevent getting detained for the illegal items on board. In this case, he volunteered to be deployed to help retrieve “contraband” out of the water.  As the operation continued, the weather changed and started making the operation more difficult.  The combination of the events that took place earned him a Navy Achievement Medal. Jason tells us about a case that happened in the Adriatic Sea where during a training flight, they came across a vessel that had hit something in the water punching a hole in it.  Next thing they know, the crew is changing into a SAR configuration to assist 3 guys off the sinking vessel.  With the quick response of the crew, this earned Jason a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  The last story he shares with us is not quite the rescue type story, but a phone call that came in requesting assistance.  A unique experience where he and his crew were asked to help move a whale that had washed up on the beach.  Next thing he knows, he and his crew are flying with a dead whale under their helicopter. This is our 30th episode!!  Not an easy feat to achieve.  Our fanbase and listenership has now reached 78 countries!  Thank you so much for making this fact a reality.  Every member of our production team is humbled and overjoyed by this global reach and expansion! Today we have the distinct honor and high privilege to talk with someone whom I consider to be a dear friend of mine and whom I tremendously respect professionally: Ben Bergeron.  For close to 8 years, he was the Chief Criminal Investigator with the Summit County Prosecutor's Office. He currently is a Licensed Private Investigator in the State of Ohio and the owner and founder of True Source Investigations, in North Canton, Ohio.  Ben has observed A LOT in his long career.  From child/sex/human-trafficking to meth labs, meth sales, to blood, bullets, murder and mayhem.   Although Ben says that “investigation work isn't as exciting as you see on TV or in the movies” he “loves it” and he is eager to tackle every new case in the hope of bringing justice and relief for his clientele. Ben's public service has involved being a dedicated Law Enforcement Park Ranger for Summit County; a Patrolman for Newcomerstown Police Department; a Deputy Sherriff for St. Tammany Parish Sherriff's Office in Louisiana and for Summit County, Ohio.  He served with great distinction, honor and merit as a Navigator and Quartermaster in The U.S. Navy.  Ben is certified as a Master Criminal Investigator by the authority of the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy and has over 10 years of law enforcement experience.   He served 4 combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and is the recipient of the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal.  Ben was charged with the oversight, investigation and prosecution of criminals charged with felony offenses as well as juvenile delinquents for the county.  He also oversaw investigations regarding enforcing child support orders and protecting neglected or abused children. In this smokin' hot brand-new episode we dig deep, explore and educate on: ● The fact that during our lifetime we accumulate a “paper trail” of identifying information that stretches more than 7 miles in length.● Reviewing the different areas of criminal investigation, procedural processes --- and the road map of how cases work their way through the courts and everything in between. ● We review the requirements to become a licensed private investigator and what are some of the “juicy details” of what an investigator does. ● As a public service for our listeners, he shares an extensive gun safety step by step process and checklist for the safe handling and operation of firearms. ● He shares insightful tips on how to go about protecting one from undesirable people, crime and scams in general.  ● We define what an indictment is, and we look at the “direct indictment” process – that many counties favor versus the traditional process.● We drill down on the 4 different types of Protection Orders.●We educate and empower in our “Think Before You Send” Campaign for our Criminal Justice students, and the general public, regarding “sexting”.● We explore how can the public help facilitate better relations with law enforcement. This episode is packed with so much information it simply isn't possible to describe everything that you'll encounter when you tune in.  Those who do tune in will be enlightened, educated and empowered. I'm honored to again be a part of this team that is focused on investigative journalism and sharing the truth.  Like it or not, the truth disturbs, the truth divides, but ultimately the truth delivers and in a time of crisis, the truth provides calm. Phil RizzoExecutive Producer

Some people are afraid to climb 5 flights of stairs and then look down while others, like today's guest, jump out of airplanes for fun. This is a guy who doesn't back down from a challenge or a thrill and intentionally lives his life in a way where he's constantly pushing himself to be greater. Andy Stumpf is a good friend of Jocko Willink and Apogee Co-Founder Tim Kennedy- it's clear why. Great men only surround themselves with other great men. We were incredibly grateful to have Andy on our Friday Apogee call to pour into the young leaders of tomorrow. ANDY STUMPF Today's guest is Andy Stumpf, a retired SEAL, professional gravity enthusiast, public speaker, and podcaster. Stumpf was born and raised in Northern California. From the age of 11, he knew that he wanted to become a Navy SEAL- it became the single driving force in his life. He enlisted in the Navy while still a Junior in high school, entering military service in 1996. After completing boot camp he began the most grueling training program in the US Military - Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL, known as BUD/s. Nearly 90% of all candidates are unsuccessful in completing the six-month program. Andy graduated and began his SEAL career attached to SEAL Team Five, in Coronado California. In 2002 he screened for and joined the most elite counterterrorism unit in the military, SEAL Team Six. This unit is tasked with conducting the nation's most critical missions, many of which have become the focus of Hollywood movies and books. Throughout his 17-year career, Andy executed hundreds of combat operations throughout the world in support of the Global War on Terror. He was medically retired in June of 2013. His awards and decorations include 5 Bronze Star Medals (Four with Valor), the Purple Heart, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, Three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Two Combat Action Ribbons, and the presidential Unit Citation. In 2015 he set two World Records after jumping from 36,500 feet and flying over 18 miles in a wingsuit in an effort to raise 1 Million Dollars for the Navy SEAL Foundation. Andy is a sponsored skydiver and BASE jumper, constantly traveling the world creating content for his sponsors. S3E4 This weeks episode broaches the subject of what it's like to be an Autism parent, while in the US Military. I had the honor to speaking with Josh Gibbs and learning about the unique challenges that our Military families face while raising a child with Autism. Josh shares how to navigate the system inside the military in order to find your child the help and services they need. I'm so grateful that Josh was willing to share a bit about his life and introduce us to Jai, his amazing son. ☺ Josh Gibbs Bio: Joshua Gibbs enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1998. He graduated basic training at Parris Island, SC in August 1998 and began training with Charlie Company, 8th Tank Battalion in Tallahassee, FL where he was enrolled at Florida State University. Lance Corporal Gibbs attended Officers Candidate School in 2000 and upon completion of his B.S. in Criminology and subsequent commissioning, attended The Basic School in Quantico, VA. In October 2002, Second Lieutenant Gibbs was assigned to the 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, CA, serving as the Assistant G-1 Operations Officer, Assistant G-1 Adjutant and G-1 Adjutant. During this time, he deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003 and 2004. Josh has served at several duty stations around the world. His son, Jai Lando GIbbs was born in 2014, in New Orleans, LA. In August 2015, he was transferred to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command in Norfolk, VA. During this tour, his son was formally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program. In 2018, Major Gibbs received orders to the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Logistics Command in Albany, GA. However, it was discovered that this Command could not support the educational and therapeutic needs of his son and so a request was made to transfer his orders to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South in Doral, FL. The MARFORSOUTH location could not only provide the services his son required, but was closer to immediate family members in the event of an emergency.  Major Gibbs' personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2d Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School, the Command and Staff College and has an M.S. in Criminology. He has also written one book, Kingdom of Hook, a fictional origin story for Captain Hook which was inspired by cartoons his son watched as an infant. He currently resides in Miramar, Florida. In this episode of the Mandatory Fun podcast, Tim, O.V., and Blake speak with The Marine Rapper a.k.a. TMR about all the A-level training our service members receive but don't capitalize on it when they get out. Every veteran's journey after the military is different. While some of us pursue the career along the lines in which the military trained us for, others take a different path and sometimes fall short of their full potential. "They [veterans] have a set of skills, they have leadership abilities, and there is so much more we can do," Blake passionately states. "Granted, I'm a writer, and I have five degrees, and none of them have to do with writing." A veteran finding his or her purpose is essential to life outside of the military. So when did TMR decide to become a rapper after serving the Corps? "When I started getting better at it," TMR jokingly admits. "In the Corps, I wasn't at the level I am now. If you've ever surfed the internet looking for military rap songs, chances are you've come across the unique sound of "The Marine Rapper." Known for sporting a red mohawk and wearing an American flag bandana, TMR served 10 years in the Marine Corps as a Combat Correspondent where he earned a Combat Action Ribbon and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals during his service. After successful tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, TMR left the Marine Corps in February 2014. After entering back into civilian life, TMR began focusing on music as a profession and for cathartic expression.
