Brett Sutton is one of the greatest coaches in the history of triathlon. In his hour-long conversation with TriGapa, he doesn't bite his tongue and puts forward many interesting theses. Trimp Team Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/trimp.team/ My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gapek34/ Trisutto Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/trisutto/ - Age-groupers who want to be successful really don't need to buy $15,000 bikes. dollars. Nor carbon shoes, which very often cause injuries. - We want triathlon to improve the quality of life of our age-groupers, not destroy it. We strongly pay attention to this. - Amateurs become slaves to training programs and cannot let go. - The hardest people to coach are those who think they are the smartest. Doctors and physicists spend 90% of their time thinking about how to be faster instead of putting on their shoes and running. - If you do triathlon the right way, it is the most interesting sport in the world, not boring at all. This is what we want to convey at Trisutto. - Professionals are more gentle now. People are looking for an easier way to do everything. Now it is believed that if someone trains hard, he is not training smart. Of course, not everyone has this approach, the best ones go the extra mile. That's why they achieve such results.

On the podcast this week we welcome Jocelyn Wong Neill. Jocelyn is a co-host on the If We Were Riding Podcast from Feisty Media. Talking to Jocelyn it's clear that she loves to chase big goals - which shouldn't have been a surprise knowing she got herself on to Team TBB back in 2008 training under notorious triathlon coach Brett Sutton. Even after all her years in the sport and having her almost 3-year-old daughter, she is still finding new motivation in the sport. Next year she is aiming to qualify for the first ever women's World Championship Ironman in Nice, France. On the show we talk about her early triathlon days, her transition back to age-group racing after being a full time pro, and her experience training as a mom. Jocelyn shares her birth story and experience with a c-section and struggles with postpartum training injuries. She and Amy also nerd out about triathlon podcasts. This is a standalone episode summarising the 'Not Above the Law' case against Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and other named politicians and bureaucrats, run by Self Employed Australia over hotel quarantine failures. It is a story of government malfeasance, admission and farce (government prosecuting itself), and ultimately judicial activism where the presiding judge created and offered a defence for government that ultimately led to the case failing because of concerns over the mental welfare of Daniel Andrews and others named in the case. The 57 page judgement makes the point that allowing the case to proceed would cause 'stress of potentially being subjected to prosecution for serious criminal offences' for the named individuals including Daniel Andrews, Jenny Mikakos, Lisa Neville, Martin Pakula, Chris Eccles, Kym Peake, Brett Sutton, Shane Patton, Graham Ashton, Andrew Crisp et al. Justice McDonald goes on to say that if the case proceeds, 'the 20 individuals identified in the First Request may suffer considerable prejudice'. In this week's episode of The People's Project: DAN HAS A PROBLEM #CookversusCrook Daniel Andrews, Brett Sutton and Dandenong council have created a monster! A slug that threatens the Premier's own seat: Mulgrave. Ian Cook founded iCook Foods where a slug was planted by a corrupt Melbourne council with backing from the Labor Party. With a team of retired detectives Ian has defeated all charges and now openly labels the players involved as 'corrupt' with not a single defamation action or threat levied in response. Ian is running in Mulgrave to stand against corruption in Victoria. CORRUPT COUNCILS Casey council was dismissed by Labor MP Adem Somyurek in 2020 for some of 'the most corrupt conduct ever seen in a Victorian council' with property developers paying bribes to councillors and Labor MPs. IBAC investigations have since revealed via covert telephone recordings that Premier Daniel Andrews has not only dined with such property developers, but has indeed discussed planning decisions at those dinners. The CEO of Dandenong Council also goes under the microscope as Ian lays out hundreds of thousands of dollars that have gone missing, bombshell board minutes, implications with Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, and millions of dollars 'disappeared' by the Labor government in the winding up of Community Chef. CORRUPT POLICE? A senior Victoria Police officer made a submission to IBAC with detailed allegations about a cover-up inside the highest levels of Victoria Police. That submission alleges and implicates Shane Patton and lays out evidence of the 'Red Shirts Rort' investigations (into Victorian Labor stealing $400,000) being covered up. The submission was leaked to multiple media outlets, including Discernable. Conspiracists have published a 'frank admission' by Brett Sutton about boosters. Here's what he really said No, Brett Sutton did not admit that COVID-19 vaccines never worked Posts quoting Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, are being shared widely on social media, with users suggesting they prove what was long suspected: that COVID-19 vaccines never worked. On Instagram, an anti-lockdown group juxtaposed two videos of the senior bureaucrat delivering seemingly contradictory messages alongside a caption that asked: "How can anyone believe these hypocrites? Who's paying them to lie to us[?]" In the first clip, taken from a YouTube video published in April 2022, Professor Sutton says: "Getting that third dose is protection against … getting infected in the first place." But in the second, taken from an August 1 media conference, he says: "Despite two, three, four doses of the vaccine, it's not so good at preventing infection in the first place." That quote has been splashed across Telegram, Twitter and various conspiracy news sites, where it has been framed as "a direct contradiction of the lies he told" earlier and "a frank admission that vaccines simply do not work". But in a statement to CheckMate, a spokesman for the Victorian Department of Health labelled the sharing of historical statements without context as "active disinformation". "Data and evidence around COVID-19 changes as the virus changes and we have always reflected those changes in messaging and advice," he said. So, what did Professor Sutton actually say? This is just my opinion. Here comes the hectic, but that's what we're all here for, so lets have at it. First up we need to talk portfolios inspired by the shocking news this week that our former Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, decided to secretly gift himself a heap of different portfolio appointments. Em and Michael are having none of it, plus they've got a side order of Brett Sutton doing some Bollywood dancing to cover off too. Then it's onto the unsolicited peen that Tommy Lee decided to inflict on our Instagram feed, none of us asked for it, however lots of thirsty Emsolators AND Michael decided to send it to Em for thoughts and feels, you'll get her reaction within. Then finally there's the news of the 45 year old woman on holiday in Porty D who was just trying to live her best life with a few cocktails. The problem with that was she was living that life really loudly in her hotel pool and wasn't keen on any suggestion that she might need to settle down and get out of the water. Em's been there before but she didn't really remember it, which is why Michael is here to help her relive her very own mum's gone wild moment. Learn more about your ad choices. Brett Sutton and Jared Hague talk about the recent Wage and Hour ruling in the Viking River Cruise case, and talk about what California employers need to be aware of when it comes to class-action cases. If you're a California employer, then this is an episode you won't want to miss as it has some new information about the recent court ruling that could affect California-state specific employers going forward. Highlights: California has one of the strictest wage and hour rules in the entire country. There are frequent class action cases filed in California and it really hurts employers. There are two types of penalties employers can fall under with the wage and hour law. Can employees sign an arbitration agreement to help mitigate the risk on the employer? What is an arbitration agreement in a nutshell? What can be covered in an arbitration agreement between employer and employee? If you don't have these certain key bullet points within your arbitration agreement that doesn't include all these features, then it might not be enforceable. Employers can not require employees to enter into an arbitration agreement as a condition of their employment. What do you need to know about the AB51 law? Employers can include a class action waiver in their arbitration agreement. Let's talk about the Viking River Cruise case. Every California employer should take arbitration agreements seriously. California law requires you to pay for the arbitration. That's not a small amount, especially if a group of employees bring a class-action arbitration against you. An arbitration agreement with a class action waiver is as close as you can get to being protected. A very minor infraction in the California laws can just snowball into a big monster for an employer. The best thing you can do is make sure you're in compliance with California Wage and Hour laws. Resources: Suttonhague.com Calnevalaw.com
Brett Sutton and Jared Hague talk about the latest update to California meal and rest period employment laws and what California employers need to know about this recent change. There are little nuances to this law that you need to be aware of and in this episode, Brett and Jared help make suggestions (not legal advice) on how to best navigate this within your company. Highlights: A bit of background around meal and rest period laws. There are significant financial consequences if you don't properly provide meal and rest time to your California employees. Meal periods are unpaid and rest periods are paid. What penalties should the employer be aware of if they do not accurately do this? Brett reminds employees what their pay stub needs to say. Your employees might be taking all the necessary rest breaks, but if you are unable to prove this, you're on the hook. Jared brings up the recent case that got brought up in regards to accurate meal and rest period times. With the recent decision, the stakes have increased dramatically. You really have to revisit what you're doing and make sure your company is fully compliant. The first starting point is your policy. Jared recommends doing a quarterly spot check within your company. Supervisors need employee training to help them understand employment laws and to keep track of meal and rest period breaks. It is part of a manager's job to make sure the company complies with meal and rest periods. It's hard enough to be in business. Don't make it harder for yourself. This is proper sit down chat with Jodie and James Cunnama. 3 x World Triathlon Champion Jodie is her wonderful honest and wise self and is generous with her thoughts and feelings. The pair share why they feel like they failed when it comes to juggling family and professional triathlon, why money isn't important and why triathlon should enhance, not injure your life. You'll hear 03:30 How Jodie and James are settling back into life in the UK including their ordeal of having to quarantine for 10 days with 3 kids under 4. 12:50 How they first met - this depends on who you spoke to. James says they met in drug testing after a race in Singapore "I was more interested in Craig Alexander being in drug testing with me than I was in meeting Jodie," says James. I prefer the version that we met on a training camp in Leysin, says Jodie. 14:30 Jodie says that being on a training camp in Switzerland was 'a spectacular life reversal for me at that time.' Annie Emerson said to me 'I think you should message Brett Sutton. She pushed me in the right direction and I messaged Brett the following week and he told me to come in four weeks to Leysin. That was the beginning of a new chapter to be honest. 18:40 Did Brett Sutton set them up? 19:30 A really good insight into how professional triathlon has changed. 'It was kind of a temporary thing before you got a real career, but now the earning potential from sponsorships is so different. When I first started it was like a hobby, then it became something that you can make a living from, but now there is more pressure and it's almost like a job now rather than an adventure. It's great to see that it is fully professional. 22:30 "For me, the chapters don't really evolve around money. There was never any real thought of becoming rich from the sport." says Jodie. 24:00 "As long as we have enough to live, we just don't care about money," says James. It doesnt really bother me. I got more satisfaction from a career in sport than I ever would have thought, says Jodie. I think with more money comes more pressure, but I think there is a different level of reward. 26:30 How Jodie feels like she missed a swansong race. "Yes definitely because I didn't retire after having Jack because I thought I was going to come back after racing. I played with it for a little bit, but then we decided to have another child after that. But then it wasn't viable after that because we had twins and James had a professional triathlon career," says Jodie. I don't miss being a pro, but I do miss racing, says James. "I almost feel like I didn't enjoy it enough when I was doing it." 34:00 'I definitely thought I was going to race again,' says Jodie. But something changed after I had Jack and I just wasn't the priority any more and neither was my triathlon career.' Every minute that I was out there training, I was taking time away from my family and then it becomes a constant negotiation with yourself. And then it really becomes work and a chore all of the time and you lose some of the love for it. How can you justify spending 10 days away from your wife with no guaranteed pay cheque at the end. 38:30 I found it really hard because I thought 'why can't we make it work' when you look at someone like nicola Spirig who we are really good friends with. But our priorities changed and we couldn't justify spending time away from the kids for the sake of performance or money which means high performance triathlon is not an option. And that was a hard pill to swallow. 41:00 Jodie gives some thoughts about finding balance with family and training for age group athletes. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, not many Australians could tell you who the state's Chief Health Officer was. In this episode we talk to Professor Brett Sutton, the Chief Health Officer of Victoria, who in the last two years has become one of the most recognisable figures in Australian public health. We ask Professor Sutton about how the Victorian government has worked with marginalised populations and diverse subgroups during the pandemic, and what they have learnt along the way. Professor Sutton describes how the Department's community engagement team scaled from 1 person to over 100 people during the pandemic, as they recognised the importance of a diverse team with the ability to connect and engage with individual communities. While he recognises that starting this process in the middle of a pandemic was not ideal, Professor Sutton talks about what he and his team have taken from the experience, and how it has fed into the vaccine rollout and broader public health policy in the state. It's a fascinating discussion and we hope you join the conversation @CentreHealthSec
Print Precision kicked off a four-part series with a case study on integrating TruFire into a small printing operation. Brett Sutton, President at Patriot Print Fulfillment, joined DigiTech's President, Patric Coldeway, and Host Daniel J. Litwin a look at the one-year journey documenting TruFire printer's adoption strategies. One week into the partnership, Sutton said his company had already seen results.“I wanted to offer something different where we're helping people out that need help and can't get it otherwise because they had to spend way much more than they needed to get something done,” Sutton said. Sutton's background is restaurant print fulfillment, but a couple years ago, he branched out with Patriot Print Fulfillment to tackle additional areas. “What we do today is the large format flatbed printing for the fulfillment side of things,” Sutton said. “I also do embroidery in-house. We try to offer a one-stop-shop fulfillment. We pretty much encompass all of the aspects of printing except off-set.”Sutton considers himself a bit of a gambler, but when he searched for new print technology, he didn't feel much risk betting on DigiTech's TruFire LTX2. “The speed alone was what drew me over there to watch it,” Sutton said of his first experience seeing the TruFire. “I realized the machine I had that at the time was a great entry-level machine but wasn't going to cut it for the way I wanted to take this company and grow it. Flash forward to one week ago, and the TruFire LTX2 made its debut at Patriot. If Sutton had one complaint about the TruFire, it was that it is so fast, work is backed up in his cutting area. Not to worry—Sutton said a new cutter is on its way. It's a challenge he was more than willing to solve.

The QAnon march in Melbourne this weekend showed off a disturbing willingness to use violent imagery and threats to intimidate democratically elected leaders, our institutions and our community. While Nearly 93% of Victorian's have had at least one dose of vaccine the rally, which featured US based QAnon symbols, flags and language, roped in a who's who of political fringe dwellers. From Peta Credlin to the Victorian upper house Liberal Democrat MP (bet you didn't even know we had one) to the bloated face of foreign propaganda in Australia, Craig Kelly, we were subjected to every wannabe opportunist's attempts to find a political base. The serious side was on show too as a gallows was marched through the threats, "kill" chants were conducted and this week saw threats levelled against the animal justice upper house MP, Andy Meddick, as well as Labor MPs, Premier Andrews, Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton and the Australian Labor Party Vice President. It is no coincidence that Steve Bannon was indicted this week, the Trump strategist and podcaster (Morrison government MPs have appeared on his show), was charged with contempt of Congress as the US mid-term election season enters the final 12 months. For more on how QAnon is infiltrating our politics check out Van Badham's new book "QAnon and On; A short and shocking history of internet conspiracy cults" Cop26 has ended with a commitment to "Phase down", not "phase out" coal power, 130 governments increasing commitments on emissions reductions (Not Morrison's) and agreement to end "inefficient", not all, fossil fuel subsidies. COVID is exploding again in Europe. The Netherlands is going into a three week lockdown, Austria is locking down the unvaccinated, the UK has 500 cases per million people and Germany has the worst outbreak since the start of the pandemic. Portugal and Spain, above 80% vaccinated, are doing much better. Get vaccinated and get a booster. The Morrison government has announced a new uncapped seasonal worker program expansion despite unemployment spiking this month and hundreds of thousands of people who want to work unable to do so due to caring responsibilities.
This time around we've got much movie action to talk through. The Emsolation safe word has been used on the streets, Em attended a movie premiere, ruined her photo op on the red carpet, and bumped into Shaynna Blaze from ‘The Block'. She also has the opening of Melbourne Fashion Week to attend next week, all by her lonesome, so expect more awkward red carpet moments to follow. There's also a trigger warning for anyone who might have experienced a miscarriage, or the loss of a child, as Em talks about the anniversary of losing her son Ray in her introduction. Once Michael arrives, we start by giving him some more props for the extra AACTA Award nominations his show ‘The Newsreader' secured during the week. We also need to celebrate the fact that his glorious cameo as an 80's DJ, with fully functioning mullet, that featured in the TV series, was photographed and has now made its debut within the pages of Australia's best selling magazine for gay men, DNA. More about why he's in there, what cum gutters are, and why he isn't wearing see through wet white mesh, like the hefty hung escort that features on the cover, within the podcast. Once we've waded through all that testosterone, we'll get across the news that they've started announcing the casting for a movie version of the Broadway musical ‘Wicked'. It's the one and only musical Em has ever seen on actual Broadway, so she is all up in its grill (expect lots of Em singing hooks from almost all of the soundtrack within this section). Anyway, while Em is totally down for the first two announcements of Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, and Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch, the suggestion that the arch nemesis for lovers of musical movies, James Corden, will be cast in it, has thrown Em into a spiral of DO. NOT. WANTS. Not surprisingly it has also caused an uproar from over 73,000 peeps, who also love a movie musical, but can't stand it when James Corden forces himself into it, to click through and type their names with gusto, into the change.org petition that demands he have nothing to do with it. After we've poured more petrol onto that raging bin fire, we'll give Adam Driver a teensy serve as well. Truth be told, Em is a huge stan for Adam, she's loved him from his days on ‘Girls', adored him in the Star Wars reboot, and even got hot around the collar when he turned into a rugged half horse, half bare chested mansicle for a Burberry fragrance campaign. However, she is not about to excuse him for not putting enough farshun realness into his red carpet choices for the world premiere in London of his new film ‘The House of Gucci'. Especially when his co-stars, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek and the one and only Lady Gaga, all served the kind of red carpet drama we live for, Adam however turned up in a two piece suit from Burberry that was meh to the extreme. There's also the premier of the new Bond film ‘No Time To Die' for Em to reflect on before we to talk about the sex infused fanfiction that someone DM'd the Emsolation podcast about featuring Dan Andrews and Brett Sutton. Both Em and Michael will read some saucy passages, there's even some ‘The Newsreader' fanfiction as well. Finally we need an update on where Michael is when it comes to his red carpet look for the AACTA Awards in December, plus there's also a special announcement we've been holding off on delivering. So make sure you listen to the very end, as if you wouldn't anyway, so you get all the facts, HUZZAH! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Are we all ready for a moment of gratitude? Em certainly is, she's found her moment and she's not afraid to wallow in it. Doing this podcast is giving her actual life and she will immerse herself up to the neck in that moment of gratitude, regardless of how twee or gross it might sound. This week has delivered us a pop culture bonanza so none of what you're about to hear will challenge you in any way shape or form, so huzzah for that. To begin with, Em has a list of things to check off with you, we start with her latest viewing habits and the shows she's loving right now from Metal Masters to The Great Pottery Throwdown. Then we check in on some news about Em's daughter Odette, who recently found out that she has ADHD, which she is sharing with Odie's permission of course. Em talks through her feels over the news, how she reacted to it and why she's so thankful for the diagnosis. Then we welcome the return of Em's bestie Michael, so they can reflect on the virtual meme-lympics that's been going down between Em and her daughter Marchella around all the AMAZE pop culture events over the last week. Those moments include the VMA's, the MET Gala and the Venice Film Festival, plus there's also some props for Dannii Minogue's 50 year old skin being all glowy, which ushers in a lovely recollection of two very different music video moments from the 90's. Then it's on to reflecting the sassy single mums Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian, who are going through a sexual renaissance and rebirth, which clearly comes from getting some good dick. Em is also here for them bringing back the “glamorous rack of lamb look” from the 90's. Michael feels like all the red carpet looks of late are merging into one and Em isn't feeling some of the looks or the invitees for the MET Gala this year either. She is however totes down for Rihanna's After After Party celebrations, especially for it's 4am start time. We also need to touch in on Nicki Minaj's refusal to attend the MET Gala because of her cousin's friends swollen nuts, true story, apparently that revelation was enough for Nicki to refuse the MET Gala's demands that everyone who attends the event having the Covid vaccine. This naturally allows Em to attend another pretend Brett Sutton press conference so she could ask the question we now all need answered. Then we need to talk about Kim Kardashian supposedly turning up to the MET Gala looking like a dementor from Harry Potter. Em isn't having it, she also doesn't think it was even her and she also isn't buying that her and Kanye are broken up either. She also finds time to fully reject any resemblance to Kris Jenner. Finally there's the news of Britney Spears' engagement announcement to Sam Asghari and her deleting her Instagram page. Em and Michael both have a different take on what's going on there PLUS they also have a final episode of Michael's new series ‘The Newsreader' to discuss. Michael isn't revealing much, but he does reveal he hasn't even allowed Em to see the final episode yet. They will also squeeze in a last minute, before we wrap up, oops we nearly forgot chat about Madonna's bum and her appearance at the MTV VMA's. So get your best listening ears on and have at it as we tear up a full week of pop culture glitz and glam for your podcasting enjoyment. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The title of this week's episode, ANVIL, will be a word you'll wanna shout a lot during the start of this podcast, don't worry, the fact we've chosen it as a name for the episode means that your yelling of that word, whilst not being heard in any way, shape or form, will result in it being repeated back to you and also acknowledged by the time we get to the wrapping up of things. In between, well once Em's high school bestie Michael is ushered in, we get underway with thanks for Michael's introduction from our last episode, plus some advice for those hoping to become seasoned in front of a microphone. We also get a commentary on Michael's ability to change his look on the regular, and a full explain on why there won't be any videos of them this week on socials, safe to say someone is rocking a swollen eye accessory that isn't of their choosing, nor something they wanna be showing off either. Then we move on to how Sydney is coping with life in lockdown, this also allows for our first appearance of the Unicorn of Death, and a reflection on how her uncanny and ultimately depressing predictions, sometimes come home to roost. Of course Gladys is now having all her previous cocky statements brought up for a revisit, and also facing daily press conferences to discuss the latest developments as well. Thankfully, just like the daily press conferences in Victoria managed to offer up distractions, like Brett Sutton's facial hair and hot Auslan guy, NSW press conferences have also managed to deliver the distracting goods. Like their Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, who's done everything from almost wipe her eye with the OUTSIDE of her protective mask, to reading updates with broken reading glasses that sat lopsided on her face. Then Em and Michael need to talk through the PM Wars that erupted over claims Scomo had bungled the delivery of the Pfizer vaccine. Then claims that ex PM, Kevin Rudd had fixed it, which Dutton was having none of, and Health Minister Greg Hunt had a giggle about, then Malcom Turnball had a go, which meant Scomo had to step into the fray again. Basically it got hectic messy, so Em has been on a deep dive and got all the receipts. She's also low key, loving how petty and “game on moles'' it has all become. Finally we'll wrap up that ramble by offering up our second prediction from the Unicorn of Death, then it's on to the utterly adorable and low key brilliance of Ash Barty. Em and Michael are HUGE fans and are just so stoked about her incredible journey, which culminated in her show stopping win at Wimbledon during NAIDOC Week, they've got LOTS of gushing and approval to drop her way. Then before we close things out, we spend some time celebrating Michael's achievements of late, from the panic of re-writing TV scripts on the fly whilst trying to film around the restrictions of Sydney's lockdown, to the fact he now has two TV shows, in Five Bedrooms and The Newsreader, both ready to hit our screens at the exact same time. So get amongst the audio goodness and make sure you stick around for two beautiful pieces of advice at the very end, we promise you won't be disappointed. Learn more about your ad choices. Our title might suggest that this podcast is trying to slide into your DM's for some sexy time, or that this Emsolation episode is just wall to wall “booty call” chat...but there's only one reference to it. Before that reference makes an appearance though, there's time for some cake chat (mmmm now I wanna eat cake), then it's on to lockdown life in Victorian for a 4th time. Aside from the top to toe clean Em's house is experiencing, the only other thing we have to cling to is the daily Covid press conferences, featuring appearances from the rather dishy Victorian Health Minister, Brett Sutton, and the other pervable sensation of 2020, HOT Auslan guy. They're both back on our screens offering up their version of sexy for Em and Michael to drool over. Naturally if you aren't in Victoria you're probably going to have to do an online search for Brett Sutton and the Hot Auslan Guy, if you haven't already. That discussion helps usher in some thoughts from Michael around his 20's and also how lockdown has inspired a rush to get vaccinated. That means Em and Michael suddenly find themselves doing a bit of vaccine chat, and as we all know, there's nothing problematic about that conversation EVER, is there? Well actually, YES, there is a LOT of problematic around that convo, especially on social media, and Em and Michael aren't afraid to talk about it and break it all down. We also asked you what you wanted us to chat about on the show in our Instagram stories, and it seems most of you were mad keen on getting to the bottom of the negative reaction the media and officials had to Naomi Osaka's decision to pull out of press conferences at the French Open. Em gets a chance to show off how tennis she is, talks about the pressure of media conferences and being in the spotlight, and even tries to list all the tennis players she knows, turns out way more than she thought. Finally, we touch on why Michael's name isn't on the Emsolation branding and we also gotta talk about the Cruella de Vil origin story that Disney have just released in cinemas and online. It's called ‘Cruella' and stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, safe to say both Em and Michael are LIVING for it, with Em fully peaking. The critics have been a smidge dismissive in their reviews, but Em and Michael are having none of that, in fact, Em is so inspired by what she saw on screen, that she's been trying to work out how she can factor a cape with a fiery reveal into her day to day life. So settle in for a whirlwind ride from cake, all the way to campery, once again, standard, hugs. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Stand back everyone, because this episode comes with added ye olde sexually transmitted diseases chat. It would seem that Melbourne is currently experiencing a syphilis outbreak, who knew...apparently a LOT of you did, because you flooded our DM's demanding we talk about it, hence it's time to sanitize your ears and dive right in because Em has done a syphilis deep dive (which sounds like a slang way of describing casual sex in 16th century Europe) anyway, now she is filled to the brim and ready to dump a bunch of syphilis facts into our brains. Before we get into the syphilitic stats though, we've got a bit of Dad chat from Em and Michael, then it's onto the news that Melbourne's rate of syphilis infections has nearly doubled in the last 4 years. Together Em and Michael will walk us through all the horrific facts about the outbreak, like how it appears, but also doesn't really very much at all and how leaving it untreated has terrible consequences. They also manage to squeeze in a stack of different scenarios from a Brett Sutton reference, to details of super spreader syphilis events and hot spots, as well as orgy warnings, a family tree of your sexual conquests, and Em wanting to take on the job of contact tracing. They also manage to rope Daniel Andrews back in front of the cameras for a super spreader press conference. After that we're ushering in the latest list of what we're watching with Michael offering up the challenging but epic series from Amazon ‘The Underground Railroad' plus his adulation for Kate Winslet's new series ‘Mare of Easttown' continues. Em's latest must watch list includes a Tina Fey series that she initially didn't rate after seeing the first episode, but she's all apologies now. You'll hear that apology as well as a proper rundown on why the new series ‘Girls 5 Eva' on Stan is actually dumb, but it's also funny and the songs are utterly hilarious. Then we check in on the new series from Ryan Murphy (who created Glee, Nip/Tuck, American Horror Story, Feud, Hollywood and sooo many more) on Netflix called ‘Halston'. Prepare yourself for Em to go full froth and spiral out of control on this show because it's got all of the things that make Em go giddy, like amazing fashion and fashion parades, Liza Minelli, incredible sets, gays, orgies, and LOTS of up the bum action. So don't watch this one with the kids, or do, but do it how Em watches it with her kids, her tips on how to do that are within. It's the kind of TV review any TV show creator would ache for, and I'm pretty sure even Netflix would be excited by it, although they may be a smidge shocked by it too. As for us, well, we know what to expect when Em is fully on board and getting all her boxes ticked, so get ready for another “is she having a stroke” moment and maximum LOLs within. With Melbourne in lockdown during Grand Final Weekend, Big Fat Brother will be watching over and under. They will still watch over us even when/if we get to Covid Normal. The Uncuckables panel discusses these fat watches with Tim Wilms Editor of The Unshackled, David Hiscox Editor of the XYZ, Stephen Wells Reg Penney and Pissy Leaks Pete. Magda Szubanksi and Assistant Victorian Police Commissioner Luke "Chief Wiggum" "Fatty" Cornelius returned to the headlines this week. The federal eSaftey Julie Inman Grant called online criticism of Magda Szubanksi for appearing in a pro-lockdown propaganda video a coordinated right-wing extremist attack. The Australia Federal Police also spoke about how they are monitoring right-wing extremism. It's election season worldwide, Tim and Dave discuss the XYZ view that re-elected New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is a man and looks like a horse. In the Queensland state election, LNP Opposition leader Deb Frecklington will impose a curfew on children in North Queensland if elected, taking a leaf from Dan's book. According to Luke Cornelius protesting is now a human right provided it complies with the Chief Health Officer's directions, Brett Sutton has been missing in action after it was exposed he attempted to hide emails. During Grand Final weekend police will be deploying drones to look for any illegal gatherings. In the rebooted hotel quarantine program Dan wants a tracking device to both locate people and check their vital signs. Further restrictions are expected to be relaxed again on Sunday, the only outbreak remaining is at an Islamic school in Melbourne's north. A new stuff up has emerged from the deadly hotel quarantine program as those who were tested for blood glucose could have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis. Reg and Pete are big fans of Pauly Fenech creator of one of the few remaining anti-PC Australian comedies Housos and Fat Pizza. We preview the new Housos vs the Virus which is premiering on 7mate on October 26. The US election is less than two weeks away now. Iran was revealed to be behind a fake email campaign to US voters where the Proud Boys supposedly told them to vote for Trump or else. If there's one thing we can thank this pandemic for, besides endless memes and a variety of artisan baking skills, it's gotta be all the soul searching and reflection that we've been able to do on ourselves whilst in lockdown. Nothing quite says global pandemic like being left alone to dwell on your own thoughts and insecurities, whilst being surrounded by all the useless things you shoved into a trolley during a panic buy you did before lockdown kicked in. So it's no surprise that the Emsolation podcast has offered up some huge realisations and thoughts during its existence. In this episode's introduction, Em reveals how it's taken her 30 odd years of intense scrutiny and judgement of her own body, to finally cut it some slack, and she's never felt better. Em's realised how much she's been obsessing over her diet for so long, and to no end really, so huzzah to cutting ourselves some slack. Once the introduction is sorted then Em and Michael take all of us on a journey that begins with Michael's beloved Brett Sutton being under fire, there's hits on Gladys, there's also hits on Jacinda's husband Clarke again. That then gently unfolds into a discussion about why Em and Michael are no longer willing to address Britney's instagram account anymore, plus there's also the announcement from ‘Tiger King's' arch nemesis, Carole Baskin, that she's bisexual. As Em said in her rundown of what was in the episode so I could write this description, “oh look, it goes everywhere” which she then swiftly followed up with a giggle and then this explain “we were both sleep deprived and scattered, in fact the podcast could be called sleep deprived and scattered today”. So if this podcast isn't titled as such, then you know they're either lying, or they're so sleep deprived and scattered that they've even forgotten their own snazzy episode name. Regardless, you're assured a wonderful, meandering, but equally hectic listen as you've come to expect, so plug in and press play NOW. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Can I get a CONTENT WARNING? You sure can, and you seriously need one if you're going to listen to this around little ears, unless you like having some really interesting conversations. Okay that done, let's move on. Now if you think you're ready for Em's Favourite Episode EVER, you ain't even close to being ready, trust us. This episode we talk about Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's new song W.A.P., which doesn't stand for Wonderful And Polite. It actually stands for Wet Ass...um...Mrs. Slocombe's cat, which will only make sense if you've stumbled on an episode of “Are You Being Served?” and if you haven't, lets just say Mrs. Slocombe never called her cat, a cat. We'll also cover off the late night tweeting from Victorian Health Minister, Jenny Mikakos on Saturday night. We suspect it was done after a few vinos, she was basically apologising for the state of play in Victoria, we felt her, let's face it, we've all been there. We talk about the current facial hair situation happening on the face of Brett Sutton, and also how Michael is back on the Daniel Andrews train, Em however is reserving her judgement right now. We also get a brief mention happening over vulva beauty masks. So there is a LOT of lady area talk, which is nothing new really, but again, a little content warning for anyone listening. But ardent fans of the Emsolation podcast will not be surprised, nor will they bat a no doubt superbly manicured eyebrow about it either. So check your surrounds, and once you're sure all the ears within listening range are prepped and prepared, enjoy another walk through the Emsolation forest, and that ISN'T a euphemism, but the Mrs. Slocombe reference most certainly is See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. It's a double case of Déjà vu in Victoria as it enters Stage 3 lockdown once again, just as the State's finances look like they're headed for a crisis reminiscent of the 1990s, meaning the rest of Australia might once again have to bail it out. The panel of Scott Hargreaves, Chris Berg and Daniel look at how the outbreak has derailed the national coronavirus containment strategy, and followed a series of failures by the State Government (2:25-22:19). They also analysed the electoral implications of Trump's landmark 4th July speech at Mt Rushmore, which drew the election battlelines with him the side of Western Civilisation versus cancel culture (22:19-39:42) and returning to Victoria the panel looks at IPA research showing the State's plunge into massive debt predated the COVID depression, driven by fantastically expensive transport projects.(39:42-53:45) In the Books and Culture segment the panel reviews the forthcoming Friedman Conference, the release of the musical Hamilton on Disney streaming service, and demographer Joel Kotkin's book out of the USA on the middle class under pressure from what he calls "neo-feudalism".
