In the heart of this graduation season, one young man took a nontraditional route to his degree and into a life of ministry. Matthew Sanchez is a content creator, entrepreneur, speaker and podcast host who aims to help people step into their God-given purpose. We talk about the Lord changing his mindset of doubt and feeling unworthy...how obedience can bring clarity in knowing God's hand is in what you're doing...overcoming his porn addiction...and how obstacles led to his calling, including an absent father. (3:25) This dreamer and former special ed student - who struggled in school - talks about graduating from Highlands College (connected to Church of the Highlands), with the goal of continuing to tell stories to help people find your gift and say yes or surrender to our mighty God, who uses broken people. Find out more about him at https://linktr.ee/Iammatthewsanchez?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=45a155b5-df51-4921-9fbb-976bafc3c024. (13:20) Matthew Sanchez also is vulnerable about not having a father around, how that pain became a blessing, helping him have empathy for others. (17:50) He also opens up about his destructive addiction to porn and how his Christian walk made him want to change. Getting rid of the old also gives more room for the new. (26:50) Facing feelings of shame, doubt, insecurity...Matthew needed a change of mindset. Along with very supportive women, like his grandmother, this young man say the God had a plan for him. A big part is showing up - he explains how that can mean a lot of things. An entertainer at heart, he found part of that to be his gift that God will use. (40:28) Matthew also has some wisdom about being obedient (can be scary) and how that can make it clear we are on God's path. Also hear his take on "God whispers"...knowing who you are...and wearing your brokenness on your sleeve. (54:28) He closes us out in prayer. What if schools developed a value proposition where they said that their graduates would be the most skilled, most ethical, and the most competent church ministry leaders? We talk to Gina Cox, who started her career as a lawyer before transitioning to biblical higher education. Charlton A. Holt is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and an alum of Tennessee State University where he received his cum laude bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems. Charlton is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Beta Omicron Chapter. After graduation, Charlton worked 8 years as a Quality Assurance Engineer for a local Birmingham IT Consulting and Marketing company and was previous owner of Echo Lounge, before accepting a call into ministry in 2012. After attending Highlands College for ministry, Charlton moved to West Palm Beach to step on staff as a Pastor at Christ Fellowship. He started as a youth pastor and now works officially with what he calls “the big kids”. Prior to taking on the assignment of “the big kids”, Charlton served in the capacity of Student (Youth) Pastor for over 4 years. He has had the honor of presenting the gospel not only in the United States, but in countries such as Croatia, Honduras, Haiti, and Bolivia. Also, through his Christian leadership journey Charlton served as an overseer for Oasis Church, in Nashville, Tennessee. Charlton recently relocated back to Birmingham in October of 2022 and now serves as a Pastor at the Woodlawn location of Church of the Highlands. When asked about the theme of his life Charlton would entitle it “From the club to the church.” Charlton shares how the power of this theme is the manifestation of how GOD can completely change the trajectory of your life if you allow him through surrendering. Charlton always shares how he has a huge passion to see the lives of middle and high school students saved, redeemed, and transformed by the love and message of Jesus Christ. He is passionate about relationships, ministry, and physical health also. Charlton feels that GOD has created each of us uniquely. He feels that through our uniqueness we can impact the world. Charlton states that his major desire is to equip the body of Christ through the word of GOD, so that the body of Christ can meet the needs of the world. If you were to ask Charlton why he said yes to the call on his life, he would simply say, “Heaven and hell is real, whenever and whatever I can do to make the name of Jesus famous across the world I am willing to do.” He seeks to remind believers and nonbelievers that GOD is not limited to a prayer, nor is He focused on your sins alone. GOD desires your heart, that through salvation He can establish a relationship with you, and you can enjoy the gift of eternal life. Charlton is married to Allison and has 1 daughter named Charlotte who is the joy of his world. Charlton sums up life in a simple sentence, which is Matthew 6:33, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need”.

For many women who are married to the minister, there must be intentional effort in striking a balance between the strengths and weaknesses of the driven leader husband. The temptation is to compare ourselves, our talents, our gifts with our husbands. Today's guest Ashley Simmons shares openly about her own experiences of being married to a talented, strong, and driven husband and what she's learned through more than two decades of ministry life. How do you keep from comparing? And even more importantly, how do you avoid competing with your spouse? Let's talk today about being married to strength and weakness.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ashley Simmons has been in ministry with her family for 23 years. After meeting her husband Tim at Central Bible College they began their life in ministry as youth pastors in Birmingham, AL. The Lord then opened a door in Fairhope, AL. After pastoring there for six years they moved to North Mississippi where they served on staff at a multi-site church (Life Fellowship/ now Compel Church) for seven years. Ashley served in several different capacities during her time there as Guest Services Director, Next Steps Director and Campus Coordinator. After a time of growth, the Lord opened an opportunity to go home. They now have the privilege of serving at Coastal Church in Daphne, AL. Ashley's role is Coastal Counseling Coordinator and Coastal Women's Director. She has two beautiful children who have been the center of her calling as a mother. Cole is 20, he attends Mississippi College in Clinton, MS as a Pre-Med student and Kennedy, 18, attends Highlands College in Birmingham, AL studying Biblical Studies and is a part of the Worship Leaders practicum. He is a Course Consultant for Highlands College in Birmingham, Alabama. And, he is the Author and Editor of Reclaiming Sexual Wholeness.   In today’s episode, we talk about how relationship injuries over a lifetime create griefs, and how losses and traumas require intentionality to heal. We talk about the necessity of facing your grief-stories to process it out to healing, how many unfortunately economize grief – like the firing up drama around their grief, or attempt connection to friends through emotional hot-wiring or energy-vampiring – but we clarify that this is actually not the same as grief processing. We talk through how a therapeutic professional can multiply your healing results, and how others in a process group – those who are in the emotional intelligence growth curve - can create unique and expedited healing in the brain. We talk about grief processing structures and treatments that will return a heart to authentic gladness, and a whole lot more.   This one is titled, “How to Heal from a Lifetime of Grief”.   If you haven’t already, you will want to go back to the first episode in this Grief series, #33, released on August 13, and episode #37, which is part 2, released September 10. In February of this year Highlands College graduate and dear friend of mine, Aisa Kessler, joined me as a guest on Still With You. During the interview we talked about her heart for outreach missions and she also let us in on a little message the Lord had spoke to her. This compelled her to leave Birmingham, Alabama in December 2018 and return to Pensacola, Florida for a year. No other instructions were included, a single step of obedience laid ahead of her.If you have not listened to Episode 27: Unafraid Outreach with Aisa Kessler I highly encourage it. Aisa's backstory is crucial in understanding this end of year episode, because here we are, a year later and God did indeed move in an amazing way. From cheetah print to funky shoes, UWF Football, and God's faithful covering; it's been a year unlike any other for the both of us. Through engagements rings, moving houses, and ministry opportunities, He has reminded us He is a God of the details. This year was not easy, but God is still good and still with us. Please enjoy this '2019 Things' year wrap up with me and my friend Aisa Kessler!_________________________________________________________________________________Many thanks...Thank you so much to all of you who joined me for Season 2 of Still With You.
