In this episode, I delve into the reasons why integrating executive coaching tools in fundraising is a vital strategy. I explore our inner barriers that often hinder our actions and discuss the different styles of fundraising energies. I understand that fundraising is a deeply personal and vulnerable process, frequently triggering our nervous systems. By integrating executive coaching tools, understanding various fundraising styles, and practicing awareness and choice, I believe we can tackle the challenges of fundraising more effectively. I emphasize that even in those tough moments, we all have the power to shift our narratives and energy. In this episode, you will learn: The Role of Time and Resistance in Fundraising: I explore the common challenges in fundraising and acknowledge that scarcity of time can indeed be a real issue, but also that fundraising's discomfort often allows time to be used as an excuse for inaction. Fundraising as a Personal Experience: I argue that fundraising is deeply personal and often activates our nervous systems. I discuss how activities like rejection, managing up to supervisors, and continuously validating our worth can trigger our nervous system and evoke feelings of vulnerability. The Importance of Recognizing Emotions in Fundraising: I explain the importance of acknowledging the feelings triggered by fundraising and providing tools to handle self-doubt and imposter syndrome. I describe the phenomenon of the "gremlin" or self-critic and the protective role it plays in keeping us safe. The Seven Styles of Fundraising: I introduce the concept of the "seven styles of fundraising," a transformation of the seven styles of leadership identified in the Energy Leadership Index. Harnessing Energy Levels for Effective Fundraising: I talk about the importance of harnessing different styles of fundraising and choosing how to show up in different fundraising situations. I explain how the energy infused in communication can alter interactions with donors and the success of fundraising activities. Transitioning from Catabolic to Anabolic Energy in Fundraising: I discuss the importance of supporting ourselves when our catabolic energy is activated and understanding how to down-regulate our nervous system to move into more anaerobic energy. The Role of Executive Coaching in Fundraising: I argue that fundraising should always incorporate executive coaching tools due to the prevalence of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and perfectionism in fundraising. I mention how I teach to address thoughts and beliefs that might prevent action within my program, Power Partners. In this episode, I sat down with Charlotte Nicholson an executive coach to chat about energy, teams, and how showing up during stress really says a lot about you as a person. With all her global experience and living abroad many times in her life, Charlotte has a deep understanding of what stress can do to a person and a team. Now, using the Energy Leadership Index tools, Charlotte helps executives get a better understanding of how they, and their teams, are showing up at the worst of times. All businesses, big or small, go through transitionary times it is just part of life. During our conversation Charlotte shared with me her thoughts on the subject saying," throughout our whole lives, we've really developed these, these filters, often unconsciously. And those can be holding us back from seeing the full potential that we have in ourselves, and in terms of what our life and our career have to offer. So that sort of brings me back to energy leadership because when things are unconscious, they're quite difficult to come across. And when you've got a coach, especially, let's say, a good coach, they're able to reflect back and mirror back to you what they see. And that's a way of getting the unconscious, a little bit more conscious. But an even better way. And what I take my clients through, this is really sort of the base of our work we start with this is an assessment called the Energy leadership index assessment." Gaining help from a coach like Charlotte is an excellent way to put your best team forward during the transition! For both personal development and in our work as coaches, personality assessments can help us to deepen our understanding of ourselves and others. Back in 1994 as an angsty teenager, personality assessments were the first thing I encountered that ever made me feel validated and like there were other people like me out there. They were introduced to me by my grandmother, Mary Lou, and I credit them for my early interest in psychology and ultimately, my career as a coach. Today we're talking about four of my favorite assessments: Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram, StrengthsFinder, and the Energy Leadership Index. I'll be sharing a bit of the background and history of each assessment, their pillars, resources you can use to find your type and learn more, and how I use them in my life. Do you use these assessments in your practice? Are there different ones that you prefer? I would love your thoughts and feedback about today's episode. This bonus episode was created to help share the difference between life coaching and therapy. What do life coaches do though and how does it differ from therapy? Some life coaches are trained and some are not. All therapist must have a license however. In general, life coaches are utilizing their own life experience to help their clients navigate their current life obstacles. Some life coaches use personal development tools they learned in training programs, for instance, I use the Energy Leadership Index with my clients, a tool created by Bruce D. Schneider, founder of the iPEC program. Life coaches typically don't give advice as they're supposed to be teaching you how to make choices and follow your own intuition. It's the reason so many of ask so many questions. We believe we all actually do have our answers, we just don't trust ourselves. Life coaches generally focus on moving you forward in your life after you've done your unpacking of the past. Now a therapist is a trained health professional who may hold several degrees. They sometimes specialize in one area like trauma, eating disorders or relationship coaching. Therapist are trained to help you unpack what happened in the past so you can heal. Sometimes, I admit, life coaches do have to have some context for where your thought patterns and habits may have been created so we'll ask some questions of your past for context. I believe a great life coach is one that listens really well, has great empathy and has not agenda of their own. I believe these are the same important attributes I look for in a therapist as well. Both life coaching and therapist can have life changing benefits and I believe they can work well together if the client has done the bulk of their past healing with their therapist first. Not everyone is ready for a life coach, and that may just mean they're still very much attached to "what happened" which will make it very challenging to move forward with a life coach. Remember, there are amazing life coaches and not so amazing life coaches. There are amazing therapist and not so amazing therapist. I hope this episode was helpful in shedding some light between the two professions. Ready to make a change in your life? Join The Electric Life Coaching waitlist here!

Michelle Kuei is Dr. Brad Miller's guest on Episode 179 of "The Beyond Adversity Podcast." Aside from being a Master Practitioner of the Energy Leadership Index and a Certified Career Coach who employs proprietary tools to assist clients in uncovering and identifying blind spots in their professional and personal lives, she is a pharmacist who runs the elevate life coaching.org coaching program. Her coaching approach is solely based on educating women on becoming more confident and empowered, which will keep them on track to achieve their goals. Born in Taiwan, Michelle had a terrible accident, which forced her to go in and out of the operating room. The doctor issued metal shoes and crutches until she turned 18 when her bones would be more structurally solid. Because she was a rebellious adolescent, she refused to follow the doctor's advice and regularly removed the equipment, forcing herself to walk independently. Every year it became more difficult for her to walk great distances, so she required help from someone, and that someone was her mother. It got to the point that her mother had to accompany her to job interviews. She has been on crutches for the past 47 years. Michelle got deeply wounded, not just physically but emotionally. As a result of the accident, she got enraged, oblivious to other people's pain and uncaring to their feelings, struggled with self-esteem as she approached puberty because she wasn't like the other females her age. She felt confused and unsure of her place in the world. Michelle understood that, even if life was difficult for her due to her condition, she had two choices: have her life cut short or find a way to shift her perspective and conquer all of the issues she was encountering. Michelle discussed how she overcame an injury that had caused her so much pain and hatred in her life. She discusses what she almost did, such as terminating her life and how those experiences changed her life. She talked about how she gained confidence in her skin. She wants to help women become more self-aware and self-loving as a coach and authors so they can go out into the world and claim their place. Michelle emphasizes that physical is not restricted and that we may live our lives despite our limited physical mobility by asking ourselves what our purpose is. It necessitates knowledge of oneself, and it requires us to comprehend our inner reality and think beyond our physique. Episode 179 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who wants to hear an inspirational story about a woman who succeeded despite her limited physical mobility. Michelle Kuei's story is inspiring, empowering, and significant proof that we can overcome our adversaries if we learn to live beyond our physicality. It all boils down to the idea that you can achieve anything if you set your heart and your mind to that particular goal and do it. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose. Zebrina has spent nearly two decades designing impactful and transformative educational experiences for senior executives in the defense sector for the Department of Defense, U.S. military services, and the private sector. As a civilian with no relationship with the military prior to her tenure at an education and research non-profit, the Institute for Defense and Business, she developed a close understanding and appreciation of military leadership and how the military invests in their greatest weapon and asset, their people. After spending her career educating the government and military about business and innovation, she saw value in flipping the script to bring the best in military to the nonmilitary world. As a former battalion commander and combat veteran, Jason believes that the military experience is part of a larger journey to prepare leaders for a more impactful and meaningful life beyond the military. He has more than 25 years' experience building, managing, and developing high performance teams, including negotiating policy measures with international partners at NATO Headquarters in Belgium. Jason is also a Certified Professional Coach, master practitioner for the Energy Leadership Index assessment, and founder of Ordinary Hero Coaching helping military professionals bridge the civil-military cultural gap.
Empowering men and being a role modelIvan begins by summarizing his specialty niche role, and specifically how he works to help men identify any expectations or programming that has impacted their lives in negative ways.Listen in to hear Ivan's intriguing history: how his relationship with his father, life in the military, and his own divorce led him to the year of introspection that changed the course of his life, and become inspired to help other men connect and find a source of support.Men supporting menHear Ivan's theory on why men may find it challenging to openly support one another, and why he's working to tear down the wall and let them know that it's okay to admit that they are having a hard time, facing depression, or questioning the direction of their life.Ivan talks about how he wants to reverse this tough mindset so that men can feel empowered by sharing these challenges, rather than emasculated.Man as the providerHere, Ivan discusses the pressure and expectations placed on males to be the main provider and caregiver, and how media, movies, and sports all urge men to be winners.Questioning that status quo, Ivan brings up the fact that many women out-earn their husbands, and that the “man as provider” role no longer has to be the norm. You will hear about Ivan's changing family status, and how he came to see his father in a different light for taking a back seat to his wife's successful career.Ivan also talks about the reason some men struggle with gender reversal roles.Low self-esteem and the link to self-destructive behaviorsTune in to hear Ivan explain the cyclic behaviors of substance abuse and how these self-destructive behaviors are connected with a lack of self-worth and pride.Mid-life understandingReframing the concept of a mid-life crisis to a mid-life understanding or awakening, Ivan dives into the most common theme for his mid-40's clientele - who reach a certain point in life and start to question if the path they have been on still feels authentic and worthwhile.Find out how to deal with this phase of your life, and move on to finding a more fulfilling experience, as Ivan shares his tips on keeping a relationship alive, discovering your purpose, and motivating others with your unique take on life.Take a chance on yourselfLearn about the importance of assessing who you really are; what your core values and belief systems are, and exactly HOW to pinpoint those things in your life that you are truly interested in and passionate about. Elise Auxier is an expert in leadership development. Elise helps her clients transform their limiting beliefs, reduce stress and gain clarity, and channel their passion and energy into their work in powerful new ways. Elise is the owner of Gulfcoast Coaching and an International Coach Federation-certified professional executive and life coach. Elise is a certified master practitioner of the “Energy Leadership Index”, which she uses to help her clients better understand themselves and how their perceptions, attitudes, behaviors and beliefs either enhance or detract from their leadership abilities. Elise believes that when we are under stress, we feel powerless and lethargic or angry and trapped in conflict. These emotions can follow us into our roles as leaders… if we allow these thoughts to dominate our behavior. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the case. If we take the time to understand ourselves and where we are in the “seven levels of energy”, we can reframe our stress into a more positive thought process that can aid us in our roles as leaders rather than limit us. ————— We all have stressful periods of our lives. Stress, in addition to its many well-documented effects on our health and wellbeing, can also reduce our energy levels. As business leaders, the last thing we need is a reduction in energy. But when we are feeling overwhelmed, what can we really do about it? Elise Auxier has the solution. Elise is a life coach and expert in executive development, and she believes that we can learn to control our energy levels by deliberate internal awareness and action. We can reframe those stressors into positive motivators instead of anchors weighing us down. And as leaders, we can do the same for our team… if we know how to empower and support them. In this episode, Elise shares the seven levels of energy that we move between throughout our day, and she explains how we can learn to control our thoughts to keep ourselves in the more productive higher levels, rather than being mired in powerlessness or anger over our frustrations. The energy we bring to our roles as leaders is critically important to our effectiveness, and another cup of coffee isn’t the solution when our energy levels begin waning. You know how powerful the ripple effect can be, so it is incredibly important to break out of your old patterns and thought processes and bring high-energy focus to your interactions with your team. Elise Auxier is an ICF certified, professional executive and life coach and theowner of Gulfcoast Coaching in Tampa, Florida. Elise helps her clients understand and harness the power of their energy for greater leadership effectiveness. Unlike personality assessments, the Energy Leadership Index (ELI) is a behavioral assessment which illuminates how current perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors either enhance ability to lead or detract from it. It measures how people really “show up” in life on a day when things are going pretty good and when they are under stress. The ELI uncovers 7 distinct levels of energy which we all cycle through on a daily basis. None of these energy levels are inherently good or bad unless we become stuck in one, unaware of our ability to choose something different. Understanding that we possess the power to choose our energy and find opportunity in every situation is a life-changing awareness. This is exactly the window that the ELI allows us to look through. For more than 30 years Elise has helped men and women expand their clarity, personal power and confidence. She partners with her clients to help them experience more of the life they really want. Together they illuminate what might be possible and turn it into the achievable. Elise coaches professional people who are hungry for higher performance, deeper engagement and more personal satisfaction and joy in their lives. People who feel both overwhelmed and underwhelmed by their lives and know that there has got to be more than this. The Energy Leadership Index illuminates the path for a new level of awareness and consciousness about what is truly possible in life. In my powerful interview with Elise, she teaches us about the 7 different levels of energy and the symptoms of being stuck in one. Elise also focuses on how important it is to harness our power of choice and the way we perceive things in business and in life.

Empowering men and being a role modelIvan begins by summarizing his specialty niche role, and specifically how he works to help men identify any expectations or programming that has impacted their lives in negative ways.Listen in to hear Ivan’s intriguing history: how his relationship with his father, life in the military, and his own divorce led him to the year of introspection that changed the course of his life, and become inspired to help other men connect and find a source of support.Men supporting menHear Ivan’s theory on why men may find it challenging to openly support one another, and why he’s working to tear down the wall and let them know that it’s okay to admit that they are having a hard time, facing depression, or questioning the direction of their life.Ivan talks about how he wants to reverse this tough mindset so that men can feel empowered by sharing these challenges, rather than emasculated.Man as the providerHere, Ivan discusses the pressure and expectations placed on males to be the main provider and caregiver, and how media, movies, and sports all urge men to be winners.Questioning that status quo, Ivan brings up the fact that many women out-earn their husbands, and that the “man as provider” role no longer has to be the norm. You will hear about Ivan’s changing family status, and how he came to see his father in a different light for taking a back seat to his wife’s successful career.Ivan also talks about the reason some men struggle with gender reversal roles.Low self-esteem and the link to self-destructive behaviorsTune in to hear Ivan explain the cyclic behaviors of substance abuse and how these self-destructive behaviors are connected with a lack of self-worth and pride.Mid-life understandingReframing the concept of a mid-life crisis to a mid-life understanding or awakening, Ivan dives into the most common theme for his mid-40’s clientele - who reach a certain point in life and start to question if the path they have been on still feels authentic and worthwhile.Find out how to deal with this phase of your life, and move on to finding a more fulfilling experience, as Ivan shares his tips on keeping a relationship alive, discovering your purpose, and motivating others with your unique take on life.Take a chance on yourselfLearn about the importance of assessing who you really are; what your core values and belief systems are, and exactly HOW to pinpoint those things in your life that you are truly interested in and passionate about. Ivan talks about the importance of stepping back from the autopilot life you’ve been living and finding a more purposeful path.BackgroundIvan F.
