Today I am bringing back my annual debrief to the podcast. Looking back on 2022 has been fruitful and offered a lot of data collecting. You know I love to collect data and review what choices, behaviors, and commitments were kept and which of them were not honored.  But looking back has not always been a practice or something I enjoyed. In fact, it felt counterintuitive to me. I know many business spaces normalize this practice but a trauma-informed lens, plus working with hundreds of people over the years, has taught me that practices which in theory should be filled with ease can really stir up whatever echoes of burdens we are carrying. I feel like for most of my life has been forging ahead with little reflection on looking back. As a result, my inner system felt like it was dangerous to look back. But when I shifted to looking back as data collection, and not connected to my identity, worthiness, or safety, looking back became a part of my practice of curiosity, noticing, and integration. In fact, I can't not look back now, as I want to reflect on patterns, habits, experiences, and changes. The deep change we want in our lives, in our business, in our relationships, and in our well-being comes with regular reflection and data collection so we can make the needed tweaks and adjustments over time.Taking time, even into the new year, to truly reflect can even lead to unburdening. Protect this time. And honor the dreams and desires you have for the upcoming year by taking the time to collect the much-needed data that will help download what is in your head and heart into a lived experience. Listen to the full episode to hear:The many reasons I worked to embrace “slow” in 2022Why “space” and “pace” are my words for 2023How committing to space and pace will encompass honoring boundaries and commitmentsMy favorite movies, TV shows, books, and experiences of 2022Learn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader EmailResources:The BearThe Good FightSeveranceShining GirlsMiss MarvelShe-HulkStranger ThingsThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of PowerLootWednesdayTurning RedNopeElvisLicorice PizzaThe SandmanSpiritedJuliaThe WatcherFor All MankindFrom ScratchEssential Labor: Mothering as Social Change, Angela GarbesConfidence Culture,Shani Orgad and Rosalind GillJournal of Radical Permission: A Daily Guide for Following Your Soul's Calling, Sonya Renee Taylor and adrienne maree brownWhat Works: A Comprehensive Framework to Change the Way We Approach Goal Setting, Tara McMullinThe Pain We Carry: Healing from Complex Ptsd for People of Color, Natalie Y GutiérrezStart Finishing: How to Go from Idea to Done,Charlie GilkeyEasy Beauty: A Memoir, Chloé Cooper Jones

How To Turn Questions Into Clients

As more and more coaches move to the online space, learning how to respond to DMs, comments or questions is vital. More importantly, moving clients from a simple question to becoming a client of yours does take some skill. If done incorrectly, your business can slow to a halt. Speaking to clients in the online space isn't too different from on the gym floor. Getting to know them and what they are struggling with or want is step one. This allows you to speak to them appropriately. As well as allow them to get to know you. As a coach, it would be ideal if clients came in, said hello and asked for the payment link to sign up for your program. But if your DMs are busy, you know this is not the case. There is a percentage of clients that are ready to go with their first DM. But most will be inquiring about services and prices. So they will need a some interaction first. Compliance with nutritional plans rarely fail because of the information presented, but usually lies in the coaching around habit and lifestyle changes. If a client has never been on a structured nutritional regimen and are use to choosing food and meals on the go or in the moment, you will need to coach them to success. Most coaches struggle getting clients into their program and out of DM questions because, they are not taking the time to nurture the client and solve the problems presented. As well, their process isn't clear. Which can create more hesitation for the client. In this episode of The Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Podcast Ken Sylvan and Bharat Oza breakdown 4 quick tips that you can implement right away when dealing prospective clients in the online space. As well as how to take prospective clients (who are just asking questions) and turn them into happy clients. With ridership declining over the same period, the rate of head injuries among bicyclists has increased 51 percent even as the use of bicycle helmets has become widespread."What is going on here? No one is very sure, but safety experts stress that while helmets do not prevent accidents, they are extremely effective at reducing the severity of head injuries when they do occur. Almost no one suggests that riders should stop wearing helmets, which researchers have found can reduce the severity of brain injuries by as much as 88 percent...."Specialists in risk analysis argue that something else is in play. Mirror Neuronsi. "Mirror Neurons After a Quarter Century: New light, new cracks" by JohnMark Taylorhttps://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2016/mirror-neurons-quarter-century-new-light-new-cracks/"What about the human brain allows a person to perform such feats as learning guitar through imitation, empathizing with anothers's pain, or intuiting where a fencer will strike next? Nearly twenty-five years ago, scientists discovered a special kind of cell called a mirror neuron that many both in science and the popular press came to believe might enable social skills like these, skills that underlie much of what makes us uniquely human. However, after a quarter century, dozens of experiments, and reams of popular articles, the true significance of these cells has become increasingly controversial. "Mirror neurons have begun to assume a humbler identity than was initially theorized, but it is important to remember that despite recent criticism, their activity may still play an important role in many behaviors. For instance, even Gregory Hickok, perhaps the most prominent critic of the hype surrounding mirror neurons, accepts that they probably play a role in enabling imitation, given that there must be some mechanism in the brain that converts an observed action to a series of muscle commands. Much research remains to be done; for instance, there has yet to be a study that specifically disables mirror neurons (an experiment that recent technological advances may make possible in monkeys), which would help to elucidate what exact behaviors rely on these neurons. Now that the hype around mirror neurons has begun to dissipate, it will be interesting to see what role remains for these curious cells."ii. "What Happened to Mirror Neurons?" Cecilia Heyes and Caroline Catmurhttps://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1745691621990638"In conclusion, it turns out that mirror neurons contribute to complex control systems rather than dominating such systems or acting alone. Their contributions are at a relatively low level—for example, to body movement discrimination rather than intention reading. And rather than being immutable units from birth, mirror neurons acquire their mirror properties through sensorimotor learning and change them by the same route. Although disappointing relative to some early claims, we argue that these discoveries should not discourage further research on mirror neurons."10. 4 Causes Of Bloating & How To Eliminate This Painful Symptom

How many times have you heard a client complain of feeling bloated? Experiencing a distended, painful abdomen area is highly uncomfortable and can be quite embarrassing for anyone. Most people who struggle with bloating will reach for Tums, Pepto, bubbly drinks, take meds, or just put up with it. We live in a world of fast prescriptions and bandaid solutions, but this doesn't get to the root cause of what's causing the bloating and it will most likely continue to be an issue. Understanding WHY your client feels bloated is most important. Bloating happens when the body is telling us something is wrong. Most likely, they are not processing the foods they are eating. This happens because: Meal timing is off - the body enjoys being on a consistent rhythm and runs on it's own internal clocked called the circadian rhythm. Eating at sporadic times throughout the day or at least not on a consistent schedule will throw the body's natural processes out of alignment. Certain foods disrupt the gut - the most common culprits are the Furious Five: wheat, corn, soy, sugar and dairy. These foods are very inflammatory, and removing them will 100% make a massive difference in healing, repair, and digestive system function. Stomach acid levels are low - the stomach secretes a powerful acidic substance called HCl that must be at a certain low level of pH and high quantity level. If one or both of these factors are missing then food is not properly broken down in the stomach creating strain on the lower digestive processes, most likely resulting in putrification/rotting of food in the lower intestine. Testing your client's stomach acid level is vital to understanding whats going on. Stress is too high - when the body is in fight or flight mode, it cannot be in rest and digest, which is optimal for digestive processes. A busy schedule, always on the go, rushing when eating or just feeling overwhelmed are signs of stress and a strain on the nervous system. Listen into this episode as Ken and Sara break this topic down and give you insight on how to help a client elevate this frustrating symptom. Constantly covering up, or just putting up with the bloating, will cause more issues and symptoms to pop up down the road. Bloating is very common, but it is NOT NORMAL. It's a signal that something is not functioning well. Structuring a clients nutrition can be one of the most impactful things you can do for them, but with that can come some challenges that will require you to coach a client through. Nutritional changes alone can improve a clients energy, increase important nutrient intake, decrease inflammation and rebalance many system that need attention. These nutritional changes can be implement through an exact meal plan that you have designed or structuring macronutrient ratios for a client to follow or even starting with removing inflammatory foods only. As a coach, it would be ideal if you presented a client with nutritional changes and they took the plan and implemented it with ease. If you have done nutritional work with clients, you will know that this just isn't the case with all clients. There is a percentage of clients who are able to take any plan and run with it, but many others will need your support and coaching. Compliance with nutritional plans rarely fail because of the information presented, but usually lies in the coaching around habit and lifestyle changes. If a client has never been on a structured nutritional regimen and are use to choosing food and meals on the go or in the moment, you will need to coach them to success. Most plans fail because of lack of preparation with food, having a busy schedule and poor planning. This is where your coaching comes in. In this episode of The Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Podcast Joe Arko and Sara Fennell breakdown 4 quick tips that you can implement right away with you clients and coach them on for nutritional compliance and ultimately success with their goals. As a coach, it's important to know how to navigate the various situations you will find yourself in with clients. Progress with any client must be a focus, to ensure you are fulfilled as a coach and the client is satisfied with their investment. The process of transforming a client's body and health has varying degrees of speed and results. Looking at this process in a linear perspective will only set you and the client up for failure. Slowing or a stalling of progress happens and they are absolutely normal on a client's journey. The body is always in motion and processing, so it's vital to understand what is happening with a client's body during these slower phases - there is never nothing going on. In this episode Ken and Sara talk about 5 simple strategies to help you, the coach and the client move past this phase with ease. These strategies are: Make 1 change or adjustment to the clients protocol every 5 days. Changing too many things at once doesn't allow you to have clarity on the client's progress and could end of confusing both of you even more. Refer back to their food log. Checking in on a client's dietary choices can give insight to poor meal timing, food choices or portions. Don't blame yourself. Coming down hard on yourself does nothing to shift the direction of your client's progress. Focus on what you can do now and refer back to the check ins, data and tracking that you have been doing together to identify problems. Create a conversation with the client about the various transformation phases and rate of progression. Have them understand that change doesn't happen over night and it's normal to have periods of fast vs slower rates of progress. Ensure the client is being consistent with every aspect of their protocol. Even the smallest deviation of actions or behaviours can change the trajectory of the results they are after. Listen into episode #19 of The Stress Reduced-Fat Loss™ Podcast as Ken and Sara unpack these 5 points to help you shift more clients out of a place of stagnation or stalled progression. Does this sound familiar: Your client is training hard and seems to be following their meal plan pretty well.... but they have a tire of fat around the belly that won't seem to budge. ⁣ ⁣This client always comes in with a coffee, has a stressful job, kids, and often talks about feeling tired. ⁣ ⁣It's time to take a look at their sleep habits. ⁣ ⁣Sleep is probably the most overlooked aspect when it comes to trainers and their clients. ⁣ ⁣But it plays an ENORMOUSLY critical role when it comes to health and the ability to lose weight and lose fat. ⁣ ⁣If your client feels tired, but their mind won't turn off, they are most likely GABA deficient. 9 times out of 10, when a client struggles to fall asleep at night - they are GABA deficient. ⁣ ⁣GABA is a neurotransmitter naturally produced by our bodies, and it's responsibility is sending calming messages from the brain to the nervous system. ⁣ ⁣Again... we can't stress this enough ... FAT LOSS WILL NOT HAPPEN until your client is getting consistent, quality sleeps. This means falling asleep quickly (ideally much before 11pm) and staying asleep all night long. ⁣ ⁣Some things that you can start recommending to help improve sleep: ⁣ ⁣• no caffeine / stimulant drinks after 1 pm (caffeine can stay in the body longer than 6 hours) ⁣ ⁣• turning off electronics an hour before bed and getting them out of the bedroom ⁣ ⁣• implement a consistent wind-down routine that helps with your brain's “it's time to calm down” signalling. A consistent bed time hour and routine, as well as a consistent wake up time, will help.⁣ ⁣• recommend 2 or 3 magnesium; 2 during dinner and 1 with tea or small snack around 7 pm ⁣(this may have to be adjusted).• finish the last meal/snack before 7:30 ⁣ ⁣We teach our Transformation Mentorship students how to assess for GABA, as well as other neurotransmitters and hormones that have key affects on health and fat loss. ⁣ This episode is hosted by Ken Sylvan & Sara Fennell Keep the conversation going with us over on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/transformationmentorship/ Interested in becoming certified as a Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Practitioner? Our next cohort starts February 28th, 2022Learn more - https://www.transformationmentorship.ca/

The Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ System was created by Ken Sylvan and Bharat Oza after years of education and working with clients to optimize health and fat loss. In 2019 the system was turned into a certification for trainers and nutritionists. A Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Practitioner looks at the body as a whole, understands it's interconnectedness and assesses a client by gaining data through: An initial questionnaire to get a general snap shot of the clients history and health A digestive intake to assess 7 areas of the digestive track and it's processes A stomach acid test to analyze how well the client is breaking down food A primal pattern questionnaire to determine the client's ideal macronutrient ratio for their genetic make-up A neurotransmitter test to determine brain health A metabolism test looking at body temperature and iodine absorption Body composition assessment through photos to determine hormonal disruptions through body fat placement. After gaining all of this data a Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Practitioner then uses a variety of protocols focusing on nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle changes and movement. The Transformation Mentorship teaches health, fitness and wellness professionals how to do this in-depth assessment, the proper protocols for rebalancing the body based on the assessment and how to be an elite coach. You will receive the education and protocols needed to be a practitioner You will go through a transformation yourself using the assessment phase and protocols You will receive mentorship with 2 case study clients (min) using the system Our next cohort starts: February 28th, 2022 If increasing your skills set as a professional is a goal for you in 2021 you can find more details on The Transformation Mentorship and the Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Practitioner certification at www.TransformationMentorship.ca This episode is hosted by Bharat Oza & Sara Fennell Keep the conversation going with us over on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/transformationmentorship/ Interested in becoming certified as a Stress-Reduced Fat Loss™ Practitioner? Our next cohort starts February 28th, 2022Learn more - https://www.transformationmentorship.ca/

Water quality is probably the most underrated key to fat loss and optimal health. ⁣If you or your client is not drinking filtered, high quality water, their liver will continue to be backed up, skin issues will continue, and their bowels will slow. ⁣ ⁣This happens because without filtering tap water you could be ingesting discarded birth control and other medications, rotting food particles, bacteria, plastics, chemicals from bathroom products, and so many other toxins found in community tap water.⁣ ⁣Suggest a good quality filter (not Brita). ⁣A Santevia pitcher or Berkey are great options.⁣ Alkalinity and added minerals are important qualities in choosing a water filter. Tetsuya Morimoto, Senior Manager of the Japanese company, WOTA Corp., joined us at CES 2021 to tell us about their new WOSH handwashing station that is ushering in a convenient and efficient new community sanitation system. The WOSH handwashing station is a small triumph of technology that requires no access to running water. It consists of an upcycled drum, with a reusable self-contained AI monitored water system, sensors and three filtration systems: two activated carbon filters and one RO film which remove impurities and viruses. It can be placed anywhere and does not require any plumbing. The self-contained system recycles more than 98% of the water, returned to the user as clean water. It also includes a smartphone sterilization feature, with a 30-second, deep ultraviolet radiation function. The company's ultimate goal is to remove every limitation between people and water. WOSH can be easily installed in cafes, restaurants, offices and other facilities, and the AI system helps it become more efficient with repeated use. Other applications include hospitals, nursing facilities, airports, military deployments, and disaster relief support. Described as a next level public health product, WOSH is aimed at those who understand the importance of handwashing and take health and sanitation seriously. The system also addresses the challenge of sanitation in developing nations where as many as 3 billion people have little to no water supply infrastructure. WOSH also features a lighted "safety ring" that counts down 30 seconds, to ensure that users wash their hands for the maximum recommended time, making handwashing fun for children, too. WOTA, which is based in Tokoyo, already has 4 000 pre-orders from several major Japanese companies, including Mitsubishi and is getting ready for a $60 million series A launch. The company plans to bring WOSH to the United States in 2022Learn more at the company's website.Interview by Scott Ertz of F5 Live: Refreshing Technology.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. This episode was originally published on May 6, 2022Learn about individual actions you can take to mitigate climate change and make sustainability attainable for everyone, with Stephanie Miller, author of Zero Waste Living the 80/20 Way and founder of Zero Waste in DC. Stephanie left her job as a climate change specialist for the World Bank in order to simplify her own life, confront the disconnect she felt between her life and her work, and to take personal steps toward sustainability. She now empowers others in her community to examine their waste practices and connect with local resources for low-waste living.Stephanie recognizes how paralyzing it can be to think about climate change, and encourages listeners to focus on what she calls the “magic three”: focus on food, ditching plastic, and recycling right, growing more confident and conscious with each choice. The joy and connection that result from low-waste living are paradigm shifting in themselves.Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podchaser, Podtail, or on your favorite podcast platform.Topics Covered:The 80/20 Way - Perfection is not the answerSustainability in Food ChoicesThe greenwashing of “plant-based.” Sustainable meat production vs standard industrial CAFO operationsThe problem of food wastePurge Plastic / Easy AlternativesRecycle Right/ the problem of “Wish-Cycling”The community-building aspect of cultivating a more sustainable lifestyleFinding joy in sustainable living Resources Mentioned: Stephanie's Book: Zero Waste Living the 80/20 Way Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also RisesConnect with Stephanie Miller:Zero Waste in DCInstagram @zerowasteindcFollow Lady Farmer:Our Website@weareladyfarmer on InstagramThe Lady Farmer ALMANACOriginal music by John Kingsley, @jkingsley1026Statements in this podcast have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration and are not to be considered as medical or nutritional advice.
