Read the full transcript here. How big is the current mental health crisis? What's causing it? What do we know about the age distribution of people suffering from mental health issues right now? Is the crisis just that more people are suffering from anxiety and depression, or is there an increase in other disorders as well? Why are psychiatrists seemingly very picky about which insurance policies they'll accept? What percent of hospital psychiatric patients are repeat visitors? What would an ideal mental health system look like? How effective are addiction detox programs? Why might suicide prevention programs backfire? Which disorders are associated with the highest risks of suicide? If a person attempts suicide but is saved, how likely are they to attempt it again? When is it better to see a psychologist than a psychiatrist and vice versa? What are some of the most exciting and most worrying parts of genetic medicine? How should we decide which diseases to study and which treatments to develop? What's an "invisible" victim? Is there any solution to the problem of invisible victimhood? How effective was the Affordable Care Act (AKA "Obamacare")? Are we collectively spending too much money on end-of-life care? How can medicine better incorporate preventive care? What is body integrity disorder? Why do we have such a hard time combating our biases relating to physical beauty? Should polygamy be morally and/or legally permissible? Should medical aid in dying (AKA "assisted suicide") be morally and/or legally permissible? Are doctors too willing to resuscitate dying patients?Jacob M. Appel is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he is Director of Ethics Education in Psychiatry, Associate Director of the Academy for Medicine and the Humanities, and Medical Director of the Mental Health Clinic at the East Harlem Health Outreach Program. Great Pop Culture Debate
Best "Hamilton" Song

Great Pop Culture Debate

When Hamilton premiered off-Broadway on February 17, 2015, it created an instant sensation, making American history genuinely exciting for modern audiences, and transforming Broadway with his color-blind casting. Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda built on the blending of hip-hop and traditional Broadway musical styles that he brought to bear on In the Heights to tell the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and the birth of our nation. The show was nominated for 16 Tony Awards, winning 11 of them including Best Musical, and won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama; its original Broadway cast recording peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and reached No. 1 on the Billboard rap albums chart. Now, 10 years after its debut, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to back to the room where it happened as we determine the Best Hamilton Song. Songs discussed include: “Satisfied,” “It's Quiet Uptown,” “Dear Theodosia,” “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story,” “Alexander Hamilton,” “Wait For It,” “What'd I Miss?” “You'll Be Back,” “Burn,” “Non Stop,” “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down),” “Helpless,” “The Schuyler Sisters,” “One Last Time,” “The Room Where It Happened,” “My Shot.” Join host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Gary Jackson and Joelle Boedecker, and Patreon sponsor Kathy Kingsley as they discuss 16 of the most beloved songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. ‘Squid Game': Who Lives, Who Dies & How Season 2's Ending Sets Up Third & Final Season deadline.

The Gospel of Musical Theatre

Who gets to tell the story? It's the season finale, and it feels like a perfect time to travel back to 2015, when a blockbuster hip-hop musical about America's founders took the world by storm. That's right... Today, Peter and Nathan return to the room where it happened and consider the theology of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. _________________________________________ You'll hear: My Shot / Wait For It / The Ten Dual Commandments: Hamilton & Burr—like Valjean & Javert, like Jesus & Judas—represent oppositional forces, responding to similar circumstances with radically different approaches to life. They also each get a great “I Want” song. Burn / Quiet Uptown / Say No To This: Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, Maria Reynolds, Angelica Schuyler Church and the various roles that women play in this story. What does forgiveness look like – and what does Eliza see at the end of the musical? One Last Time / Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story: Few other musicals are so associated with presidential administrations as Hamilton is with Barack Obama. We think about the connections between the Hamilton project and the Obama project, wonder about the soft nationalism at the heart of this story, and think critically about the legacy of George Washington. Who gets to tell the story? You'll hear Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr, Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson and the cast of the 2015 Original Broadway Cast Album. It won a Grammy. _________________________________________ Check out some of our all-time favorites! Phantom of the Opera Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Jesus Christ Superstar! This week, we're checking in with you, dear listeners, in a candid and vulnerable episode.  Days before the U.S. Presidential Election, Dan and Rachael share the emotional weight they're carrying, touching on the intense anxiety, anger, and grief of this turbulent season and honestly acknowledging, “We're not doing well.”  Together, they explore practices that help them stay grounded and find hope. We hope that this conversation possibly helps you navigate similar feelings in uncertain times, or, at the very least, reminds you that you are not alone. Editor's Note: Dan and Rachael recalled different percentages regarding White Protestants' views on immigrants. According to the source, however, the executive summary states: “While few Americans (35%) agree that “immigrants are invading our country and replacing our cultural and ethnic background,” this view is held by 65% of Republicans, as well as most viewers of far-right news (83%) and Fox News viewers (66%). White evangelical Protestants (62%) are the only religious group among whom a majority agree that immigrants are invading our country and replacing our cultural and ethnic background.” Source: prii.org Related Resources: Dan and Rachael reference the following works during their conversation: Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why by Laurence Gonzales Oscillation Guidebook by Gabes Torres Article: “A third of Americans agree with Trump that immigrants ‘poison the blood' of US” published by The Guardian, October 18, 2024. Vasu Jon Seskevich and Sitaram Dass traveled to her remote off-the-grid home in the high desert of New Mexico for an intimate conversation about living with an open heart in the face of death and grief.  Stephen and Ondrea Levine were two of the pioneers of the modern conscious death and dying movement and touched the lives of thousands of people worldwide. Stephen died a medication-assisted death on January 17th, 2016 after many years of living with Alzheimers, and Ondrea was his caregiver in those final years. They are the authors of numerous books, including Who Dies, Embracing the Beloved, and A Year to Live. https://levinetalks.com is a way for Stephen and Ondrea to continue their teachings and connect with an outside audience. In the introduction to this interview, Sitaram Dass states, “Stephen and Ondrea spent their entire lives making friends with death, and as Ondrea approached the end of her life after experiencing the death of Stephen, I wanted to know what insight she might have to share.  “Her matter-of-fact transparency, immediate warmth, humility, compassion, and wisdom left me in awe, but also as if I had just met an intimate friend. This meeting was truly a gift, and I am excited to share it with you.”  ***HELP ONDREA FIX HER SOLAR POWER SYSTEM***  Recently, Ondrea's solar power system and backup generator both unexpectedly broke down. These systems are essential for her daily living, providing the necessary power for heating, cooling, water, and other vital functions in her off-the-grid home.  The sudden failure of these systems has left her in a vulnerable position, making it difficult to manage her health and maintain her home. A Gofundme was set up to help Ondrea repair her solar power system and generator, ensuring she can continue to live safely and comfortably in her home. Abram longs for a child that he believes God has denied him. God meets Abram in that specific need, but then leads him to a more expansive - even cosmic - view. This is a story that might be easier for aunties like me to understand: I absolutely don't have one or two or three children. I either have zero children, or I have children that number the stars. I choose the latter, and in this story God seems to agree. As a church, we claim all our children as belonging to all of us. And we explicitly bless those who devote their time and their energy to the education, mentoring, care, and love of our kids when we gather together on Sunday mornings.Sermon begins at minute marker 4:24Genesis 15.1-6ResourcesBibleWorm podcast: Episode 602 – Trusting the Promise, Amy Robertson and Robert Williamson, Jr“Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story,” Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton.Image: Photo by note thanun on UnsplashHymn: Voices Together, 175, Planets Humming as They Wander. Capes On the Couch - Where Comics Get Counseling

It's time to swim in the Deadpool and do the DEATHSTROKE! Some people would give their left eye for an episode like this. Those people probably need help just like Slade. Listen now! Intro - Jeremy Whitley Apologies for the delay Background (2:18) Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez in The New Teen Titans #2 (Dec. 1980) At 16, he lied about his age to join the Army during the Korean War, and later met his wife, Captain Adeline Kane - after they married, they had three children: Grant, Joseph, and Rose Subjected to an experiment where he was injected with a substance that drastically increased his healing, as well as giving him expanded use of his brain's capacity #BecauseComics Started working as a mercenary, keeping his business private from Adeline, until a criminal kidnapped Joe to blackmail Slade - although Slade killed the criminal, Joe's throat was sliced, destroying his vocal cords and rendering him mute - this angered Adeline, who shot Slade through the right eye Grant took a contract to kill the Teen Titans, but died after an experiment to give him superhuman abilities - Slade vowed vengeance on the Titans, blaming them for Grant's death, but was defeated The Judas Contract - Slade used Terra to infiltrate the Titans, then once he learned their identities and weaknesses, systematically went after each of the Titans - Joseph joined with Nightwing to possess his father, and after Terra died, Slade was captured After that, Slade occasionally worked alongside the Titans while still working as a merc - he was forced to mercy kill Joseph, who was a Titan known as Jericho and was possessed by the souls of Azarath Gave Adeline a blood transfusion which drove her insane, and she tried to kill all metahumans, blaming them for Jericho's death - when she requested a mercy kill, Slade refused but Starfire obliged, and he cut ties with the Titans Jericho possessed Slade right before his death, and used Slade's body to enact revenge on all the Titans - this led to Slade training Rose, his last remaining child, to kill Jericho, but his methods drove her insane Was responsible for the destruction of Bludhaven and killing over 100,000 people to mentally destroy Nightwing - he was defeated by Batman, Robin (Tim), and Nightwing New 52 - reboots Slade as a mercenary who lost his eye in a terrorist attack, and after his sons and wife were killed, he goes on a rampage to protect Rose Dies in Rebirth after being killed by Red Arrow Issues - Theme: Being too smart for your own good doesn't have to turn out this bad! (9:59) Kids: They're a handful, am I right? Intellectualization as an isolator  The definition of “Enough” (26:05) Break (35:58) Plugs for Sips Suds & Smokes and Frigay the 13th Treatment (37:57) In-universe - Give him a protection contract and make him honor it Out of universe - So many examples with real-life veterans (41:35) Skit (49:29) Hello Deathstroke, I'm Dr. Issues. -Hello, Doctor. *pause* This is unusual and I don't like it. Well, therapy or counseling isn't always meant to be fun, and lots of people hate going to the doctor, so -*interrupting* Not like that. I've been a wanted man for ages. You've seen patients like me in confined areas before. Yet you let me waltz in without a hint of security. No shackles, no guards, not even a warning. That doesn't make sense. I can only draw 2 conclusions. Either you are requesting my services, in which case you have no need for safety, or you have an unknown unknown, which uncharacteristically would put me at a disadvantage. I'm sure you've read my profile. -From the “exposure” you had a while back, sure. Very sloppy, and yet cleaned up as if it never happened. Your current information is modest on networks but still acclamatory. But I'm sure you are referencing my ability to infer that you are a pacifist and would never entrust my means. Very well. I will take this session at face value. Humanity is full of idiots, you're no different. That is quite the exposition and non sequitur simultaneously. I'll bite. What's wrong with humanity, and how does that affect you? -It's hard to act with perfection when you can't let morons know you are imperfect. I can exploit anyone I want. Sometimes it's pleasurable. It's certainly profitable. But I'm not above petty revenge. I've loved before. I hate even more. And yet, only one of those goes unrequited for long. No one will pity a mercenary.  You don't deserve pity. No one does. -*pause, genuine shock* Too Machiavellian of a phrase for a Hippocratic practitioner. Too quick of a process for the smartest man in the room. No one deserves pity. They deserve grace, honesty, and empathy, the ratios of which can be seen as enlightening, punishing, and rewarding, depending on the circumstances. The chase is beneath you. By your own account, I'M beneath you. So why bother? Money? Really? -If I have mastered the rules of a game, then I should be able to keep my own scoreboard at my whim. But I have other motivations, and yes, I will admit that they are just as basic as any other *ahem* family man. I don't pretend to be stereotypical in my reactions, but I mourn my losses, too. I feel like this is all a test of my wits. I have to prove to you I'm worthy of your time. You could have ended this…take of that what you will…at any point. Do you really think I have some sort of ace up my sleeve? -Unlike you, I don't use the colloquial “I feel” To substitute for “I think.” And yes, I think…haha, I KNOW you have me scouted. Anything less and you are a trusting fool. Try me. -I know you've encountered the Titans before. I created a diversion so they will be too busy searching for a fake battle hundreds of miles away. You are alone. Am I? -I know about your latest burner phone. All signals from this office are blocked. It's a brick, now. No bats will be in this belfry. Um…well… -Surely that can't be it, right? You have more to deliver to test my mettle? The archer? The Martian? The big blue buffoon?  Don't call me Shirley. -*Pause* You truly are an idiot like all of the rest. Cool, then you don't have to waste your energy on killing me. -You're not a mark. That's the only reason you're still breathing.  I'll take it! -As if you have a choice. Pathetic. *door opens as he's about to leave* Oh, and Mr. Wilson, I just wanted to let you know that you don't have to intimidate someone who is genuinely trying to help you. It makes you look like a casual jerk instead of a ruthless assassin. Amongst the government agencies, interstellar factions, extradimensional rulers, and plain ol' folks who want to see you suffer, I might be your only chance of living any semblance of a peaceful life. I'm risking my existence by talking to you and keeping my vow of confidentiality only if you mean what you just said, because I can have a clear conscience that you are a shrewd butthurt businessman rather than the essence of evil that those who conspire against you would want me to believe. I figured all of that out without anyone telling me a single word. So I may not be a queen on your chessboard, but I damn sure am NOT a pawn. -Do you *interrupting* Slade. -*pause* All you had to say was my name, and we could have avoided the banter. No contacts, please, unless I come to you. Now we have an agreement. Goodbye. When people think about survival and preparedness, they tend to think of dealing with an end-of-the-world kind of scenario. But lots of bad things can happen, and are more likely to happen, that fall short of the apocalypse. My guest can help you prepare for any worst case scenario, whether it's the worst thing to happen to mankind or just the worst thing to happen to you this year. His name is Mike Glover, and he's a former Green Beret, the founder of Fieldcraft Survival, and the author of Prepared.Today on the show, Mike and I first talk about the softer skills of preparedness. We discuss how to create plans using military concepts like war gaming and the PACE methodology, build your tolerance to stress, and develop your situational awareness so you don't freeze in a crisis or let one catch you by surprise. In the second half of our conversation, we discuss the harder skills of preparing for worst case scenarios. Mike outlines what capabilities every man should develop. He shares his own EDC and what he recommends you carry and wear on a day-to-day basis. We talk about how to stock your home and car for emergencies and more.Related Resources From AoM's Extensive Survival and Preparedness ArchivesPodcast #820: Escape the Safety TrapHow to Make a Bug Out Bag: Your 72-Hour Emergency Evacuation Survival KitHow to Bug-In: What You Need to Know to Survive a Grid-Down DisasterWhat Every Man Should Keep in His CarA Beginner's Guide to EDCHow to Use a Tourniquet to Control Major BleedingA Complete Guide to Home Fire Prevention and SafetyHow to Develop Situational AwarenessThe Complete Guide to Making a DIY First Aid KitPodcast #610: Who Lives in Survival Situations, Who Dies, and WhyA Complete Guide to Home SecurityConnect With Mike GloverMike on IGFieldcraft Survival WebsiteFieldcraft Survival YouTube ChannelFieldcraft Survival PodcastListen to the Podcast! Today is All Saints Day in the Christian tradition. It's a time when we remember those who have died this year, and remember those who are no longer physically present with us. We remember and share stories, and reflect on how our lives have been impacted by their lives. This year, as we recognize those who have gone, we incorporate lessons from the musical “Hamilton: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story?” What legacy are we creating in our daily lives, and does that legacy mirror how Jesus lived?

Welcome! and Thank you for listening.  Navigating while relying on GPS can make getting somewhere easier but it rarely results in making mental memories of how to get there again.  Getting lost is perceived differently for individuals.  If you still maintain your sense of self in your current surroundings, you may not consider yourself lost.  After all, you still have where you came from.  However, eventually you start to feel a sense of urgency to find your ultimate destination.  According to Laurence Gonzales in his book, Deep Survival, most people do not think of retracing steps back to their original start point immediately.  Wandering ensues, sometimes frantically, that results in becoming even more confused.   At some point there will be a fork in the road.  Stay put and accept your fate or forge a new plan and follow it methodically to safety.  Learning to eat a plant based diet and reversing lifestyle diseases can be somewhat similar.  Taking charge of your health requires navigation into unknown territories.  The maize of choices and information can be overwhelming.  Often we fall back to our old ways.  Tips for plant based survival: Positive mental attitude toward new foods and new ways of cooking.   Make changes that begin with familiar foods and change the ingredients to point toward a new healthier direction. The number of head injuries sustained in bicycle accidents has increased 10 percent since 1991, even as helmet use has risen sharply, according to figures compiled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. With ridership declining over the same period, the rate of head injuries among bicyclists has increased 51 percent even as the use of bicycle helmets has become widespread."What is going on here? No one is very sure, but safety experts stress that while helmets do not prevent accidents, they are extremely effective at reducing the severity of head injuries when they do occur. Almost no one suggests that riders should stop wearing helmets, which researchers have found can reduce the severity of brain injuries by as much as 88 percent...."Specialists in risk analysis argue that something else is in play. They believe that the increased use of bike helmets may have had an unintended consequence: Riders may feel an inflated sense of security and take more risks...."But the most effective way to reduce severe head injuries may be to decrease the number of accidents in the first place."7. Mirror Neuronsi. "Mirror Neurons After a Quarter Century: New light, new cracks" by JohnMark Taylorhttps://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2016/mirror-neurons-quarter-century-new-light-new-cracks/"What about the human brain allows a person to perform such feats as learning guitar through imitation, empathizing with anothers's pain, or intuiting where a fencer will strike next? Nearly twenty-five years ago, scientists discovered a special kind of cell called a mirror neuron that many both in science and the popular press came to believe might enable social skills like these, skills that underlie much of what makes us uniquely human. However, after a quarter century, dozens of experiments, and reams of popular articles, the true significance of these cells has become increasingly controversial. "Mirror neurons have begun to assume a humbler identity than was initially theorized, but it is important to remember that despite recent criticism, their activity may still play an important role in many behaviors. For instance, even Gregory Hickok, perhaps the most prominent critic of the hype surrounding mirror neurons, accepts that they probably play a role in enabling imitation, given that there must be some mechanism in the brain that converts an observed action to a series of muscle commands. Much research remains to be done; for instance, there has yet to be a study that specifically disables mirror neurons (an experiment that recent technological advances may make possible in monkeys), which would help to elucidate what exact behaviors rely on these neurons. Now that the hype around mirror neurons has begun to dissipate, it will be interesting to see what role remains for these curious cells."ii. "What Happened to Mirror Neurons?" Cecilia Heyes and Caroline Catmurhttps://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1745691621990638"In conclusion, it turns out that mirror neurons contribute to complex control systems rather than dominating such systems or acting alone. Their contributions are at a relatively low level—for example, to body movement discrimination rather than intention reading. And rather than being immutable units from birth, mirror neurons acquire their mirror properties through sensorimotor learning and change them by the same route. Although disappointing relative to some early claims, we argue that these discoveries should not discourage further research on mirror neurons."10. One of my favorite songs is from the second act of Hamilton called “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story?” It just gets me in the gut every time I listen to it. Not just because I'm a fan of musicals: it's also because I resisted telling my story for so many years. Despite having the platform to share my knowledge and wisdom in psychology, leadership, and personal development, I was reluctant to share the experience that made me... me. I didn't believe I was someone who had a story to tell, nor that I was qualified to tell one. Fortunately, life stepped in and taught me the magic of storytelling. In this episode, I share a deeply personal story about my gender identity. I then discuss the power of storytelling and how it impacts both the storyteller and the listener. I explain how we sometimes avoid stepping into our truth just so we can satisfy society's expectations of us. I also describe how you can pick up some wisdom you may have overlooked from your life experience and how you can use it to connect with humanity. “The first person who'll convince you that your story matters is you.” - Erin Baker This week on Shift-Starters: Why I used to hesitate about sharing my story with the world How creating an authentic, inclusive, and equitable world starts with working on our own authenticity A childhood conundrum and how I knew I was different My experience with getting bullied in middle school and high school How we sometimes fear discovering our own truth My college years and stepping out of society's box Discovering and embracing the non-binary identity Claiming my connection to my body and how I decided to get surgery The fear of “what if…” versus the fear of “what if I don't…” and the importance of choosing yourself How getting surgery changed my life What “affective forecasting” means and how being in my truth brought me closer to people How being your most authentic self can be the most powerful thing you can do for your mission Creating a timeline of your life and recollecting the wisdom of your experiences The magic and power of storytelling Let's Start Some Shift! What separates survivors from victims? Are there secrets in the stories of survivors that can help all of us survive everyday life? We will explore all of this and more. Show notes: Laurence Gonzales is the author of numerous books and has won many awards, including two National Magazine Awards and the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He was also awarded the Montaigne Medal from the Eric Hoffer Society in 2018 and won the Eric Hoffer Award in both 2018 and 2019. After reading in neuroscience for several years, he wrote the best-selling book Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why and its sequel Surviving Survival: The Art and Science of Resilience, which attempt to answer related questions about how people make bad decisions and what leads some of them to survive and some to perish. His most recent non-fiction book is Flight 232: A Story of Disaster and Survival, a detailed reconstruction of the crash of a fully-loaded DC-10. It was adapted for the stage by The House Theater of Chicago and played to sold-out houses and rave reviews in both 2016 and 2017. It also had successful runs in both Boulder, Colorado, and Miami, Florida. For more than a decade and a half, he has appeared as a featured speaker before groups ranging from the Los Alamos National Laboratory to Exxon-Mobil, and from the Wilderness Medical Society to the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His most recent novel is Lucy (Alfred A. Knopf). His essays are collected in the book House of Pain (University of Arkansas Press). This was the face he now donned for every public moment in these dark days. He was in trouble, and under no circumstances would he let it show. The investments he had made in the good times were now worthless. Ever since the waves of panic and the dread of complete collapse had gripped the region, commerce had careened to a violent stop; his tenants had no means of making money, much less paying him. Who knew when the next dollar would come? The economy was like concrete—it had moved well when it was wet, but now the scorching heat of oversupply, panic, and free-fall had dried it up overnight. Later, people would swear they had seen the terror behind his eyes. But in those first dreadful days, they had refused to admit it even to themselves. This story isn't from 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a glimpse of the grim inner reality of a landlord and investor in 1931, a paraphrase from a story told by Timothy Egan in his brilliant and award-winning book The Worst Hard Time. In the early 1930s, a terrible collision of deadly drought, global economic instability, and the dire environmental consequences of man's misuse of power gave rise to a cataclysm of dust storms that devastated the southern high plains of the U.S. Nothing like it had been seen before; and to this day, the total ruination of the ecosystem of the Great Plains is often credited as the worst environmental disaster of human history. Not surprisingly, few lived to tell the story, or if they did, it was a story too painful or shameful to recount. I can't help but connect the stories in The Worst Hard Time with elements of our current global challenge. No one knows the outcome of these times in which we find ourselves. There is no crystal ball; there are no material guarantees. Yet by Grace there is a brilliant, kind Teacher who wants to guide us through all of it into Life. And there is a map of human history that can educate our souls to survive, to endure, and to make the way for future generations to thrive as a result of abiding wisdom applied in the midst of an unprecedented crisis. Which brings me to a question: In times of crisis, when life shifts in some distinct ways from normal to survival, who lives, who dies, and why? Laurence Gonzales wrote a compelling, research-based narrative exploring the mystery behind this question in his fascinating book Deep Survival. In the hope of offering some soul-strengthening counsel from shapers among us as well as shapers of old, my aim in this podcast is to pause and consider some very practical aspects of “surviving survival” that we could lean into today in order to become even more the kind of men who can receive life and bring life, in partnership with God, for such a time as this. Specifically, I highlight 10 ideas that can help us first receive love and then lead in love, even in this uncertain hour. Friends, let us stand together, holding onto the hope that Paul expressed to the community of God's people in Galatia: the hope that we who have chosen to receive the gift of God's generously available life are given the resources we need for union with God and to express our faith in love. Not in our own strength, but in union with the Trinity today. Paul assured us that we do have direct access to remarkable qualities of God's own life and experience: Joy that overflows, Peace that subdues, Patience that endures, Kindness in action, a life full of virtue, Faith that prevails, Gentleness of heart, and Strength of spirit.(Galatians 5:22-23, The Passion Translation) And in the midst of these unique times, may we both receive and offer this kind of faith-filled life into our spheres of influence. May the fruit of our union with God be so nourishing and strengthening to those around us that the world will know that God is with us and we will not be shaken. As One, Morgan P.S. As shared in the podcast: Want to join Cherie and me for 30 minutes of refreshment and soul centering? It'd be a great gift to your spouse or nourishment for you or even a mid-day date!
