"God is more than a binary gender."    About today's speaker:  A native of Spokane, Danae Ashley is an Episcopal priest who has served churches and led discernment and spiritual retreats across the United States since 2008. In helping others, she discovered that she needed to be committed to her own self-care and has been healed and supported through spiritual direction and Jungian analysis. She graduated from Adler Graduate School with a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2014 and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Washington State and Chief Pastoral Minister at Soul Spa Seattle, LLC.  _____________________ _____________________ Join us each day for Divine Feminine, an Advent podcast offered during the season of Advent. How are we changed if we pray, "Our Mother, who art in Heaven," or, "We believe in one God, the Mother Almighty?" If humans are created in God's image, perhaps our understanding of and imagination for God has been too narrow. Every day in Advent, tune in to spend a few minutes with God's femininity – as we prepare for her humanity.

—"One of the pillars of integrating psychedelics is exploring the relationship we have with death. This is a matter of integrating the reality of death—death in general and your death in particular—into your experience of living. Integrating death, as a part of the larger integration of your work with psychedelics, is ultimately a spiritual preparation. “There is no fundamental difference between the preparation for death and the practice of dying,” Stan Grof has wisely said, “and spiritual practice leading to enlightenment.” We believe humanity's intention in the universe is to embody the experience of understanding, compassion, kindness, peace with the unknown and ultimately unconditional love, and going forth to share it. Enlightenment is what happens when there is nothing left to grasp, nothing left to fear, nothing but love. There may still be questions but there is no grasping for answers. There is awareness. If you open the cracks in awareness there is love.” Valeria interviews Dr. Ryan Westrum  — the author of “The Psychedelics Integration Handbook” Ryan Westrum, Ph.D., M.A. works as a psychedelic integration therapist in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and through video conference internationally. His primary focus is working with individuals integrating non-ordinary state experiences for healing and personal transformation. He also is the host of The Psychedelic Psychologist podcast. Ryan frequently works with people who are dealing with addiction, anxiety, depression, mental illness, stress, trauma, and end-of-life care. Ryan is available for speaking engagements on a myriad of topics and leads experiential groups, like dream work therapy and psychedelic integration groups; and develops psychedelic integration plans with people through therapy and coaching. Ryan graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Psychology; followed by a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Adler Graduate School. In this episode of the Plant Medicine Podcast, Ryan Westrum returns to discuss the finer details of psychedelic integration. Ryan is a trained psychotherapist with a Doctorate of Transpersonal Clinical Psychology from Sofia University and an M.A. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Adler Graduate School. He is also the founder of Healing Souls LLC and a registered integration therapist for Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, as well as the author of the Psychedelics Integration Handbook. Drawing on his 15 years of experience as a mental health practitioner, Ryan approaches integration with an intimate knowledge of human psychology, drawing on multiple modalities to best facilitate integration for his clients. In this conversation, Ryan talks about various roadblocks to successful integration and how these can be overcome, especially with the help of an integration coach. He emphasizes the importance of making the psychedelic experience one’s own as a central project in integration, explaining how this is essential for allowing new self-understandings to emerge.   Ryan also discusses various practices he encourages as an integration coach, such as journaling, drawing mandalas, and movement practices, mentioning how these can all help better incorporate the work of integration into one’s life rather than keeping it an isolated project. Here again, Ryan emphasizes the importance of individual psychology and encourages people to choose practices that resonate and spur new insight.   As a practicing therapist, Ryan also shares his thoughts on the distinction between psychedelic integration and therapy, noting how this boundary is often blurry. What Ryan stresses for both paradigms, however, is the interpersonal character of healing and growth. With the help of a skilled integration coach, the work of living out one's psychedelic insights and making lasting changes becomes all the more approachable. In This Episode: The purpose and value of an integration coach How to make psychedelic experiences tangible How to start the integration process Different practices to help spur integration The relationship between therapy and integration Quotes: “Integration to me is the act of taking one thing and another and finding wholeness or links to wholeness.” [4:55] “[Integration] is reconciling past memories and incrementally getting prepared for future stories.” [14:22] “Integration exercises can also challenge you to see what you’re afraid of, what you’re not ready to look at, what potentially are growth points.” [18:27] “I would never encourage anyone, no matter how many sessions you’ve sat or how many ceremonies or how many cups of tea you’ve drank, to do this on your own. There’s a benefit in community.” [23:33] “There needs to be a purpose-driven motivation for this work. Just because it’s being talked about in corners, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily right for everybody.” [31:30] Links: Ryan’s Website Psychedelic Integration Website The Psychedelics Integration Handbook Psychedelic Medicine Association Get 20% off everything at Octagon Biolabs with coupon code 'plantmedicine' Porangui

“We have to be able to have these uncomfortable conversations and put in some uncomfortable strategies for people to move forward.” ~Brandon Jones What, exactly, is intergenerational trauma? How does structural racism even work? For Brandon Jones, the answers are balled up in the same knot of his origins story. As a psychotherapist, a professor with dual Masters degrees, and a 2013 Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow, Brandon’s committed to educating people about the intentional cycles of trauma and drama that supremacist culture has fostered within families of color.  For white folks, confronting these life-long, centuries-old systems requires acknowledgement of advantages that most of us have come to rely on, consciously and unconsciously. Our conversation begins with Brandon’s winding journey of self-discovery and travels through instances of early bias conditioning and “bootstrapping” - the racist myth that hard work is enough to level the playing field for all - in his own life. He sheds light on aspects of everyday, institutional racism, easy to overlook if you’re not intimately acquainted with them. What I call out as ignorance or “blindness” on the part of white folks, Brandon defines as denial, the privilege to avoid confronting what is known - another underhanded tactic from the supremacy playbook.  Listeners, you know how much I love a good chat! Well, Brandon humored yours truly so much that we almost ran out of time for the healer questions. Almost. GUEST BIO:  Brandon Jones is a Psychotherapist, Professor and currently serves as the Integrated Services Manager at NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center. In Episode 033, of A Medicinal Mind Wisdom and Well Being, I step away from the strictly medical to discover the beauty and truth of storytelling with visionary community leader and the founder of Storyslices Catherine Day.   In this conversation, Catherine shares her unique story-based approach intended to help others find their purposeful narrative and constructed from her extensive study at the Adler Graduate School as well as experiences as an executive in higher education, television, and radio.   We start the podcast wading in the waters of Catherine's childhood with the birth of her own origin story and the beginnings of her calling as a steward of the story, paving passageways for others through life's most challenging transitions.   Catherine then outlines her experience studying psychotherapist and medical doctor Alfred Adler, sharing how his pioneering work surrounding the role of community and our collective search for meaning informed the development of her story based approach.   We then explore the fundamental framework behind Catherine's unique method, delving into the spectrum of tragic character states that hold us back and the transitional changes that must take place in order for us to embody our archetypal ideals, our SUPER CHARACTERS: The Truth Teller, The Visionary, The Healer and The Artist.   Catherine blends her own narrative, and even that of her mother as she describes the dynamic fluidity of these positive trajectories, and together we seek to uncover what really is at the root of our suffering or our hindered flourishing.   Catherine ends the podcast with a piece of her own creative mastery, a poem that will likely leave you too surrounded by the beauty of our natural world, free from the container reality says you inhabit.   Keep up with Catherine and her amazing work using this link to her website:  https://storyslices.com   Listen to our previous conversations here: https://www.amedicinalmind.com/podcast-wisdom-and-well-being     Disclaimer: The content at A Medicinal Mind and the content of our podcast are educational and informational in nature.
