Joshua Michael Wenner is an entrepreneur, veteran, and emotional resilience expert. Over the past 20 years, he has dedicated himself to growing companies and supporting others in maximizing their potential. He is also the founder of the Emotional Resilience Training (ERT). Following the loss of his brother to a heroin overdose nearly two decades ago, Joshua embarked on a journey of healing navigating through his own grief and heartbreak. This led him to interview numerous experts in the fields of grief and trauma, culminating in an upcoming documentary called "The Gift of Grief." Through this process, Joshua acquired tools, insights, and awareness about loss and trauma, which enabled him to rediscover the joy in life. Guided by his experiences Joshua initiated Emotional Resiliency Training retreats for men, teaching them to embrace grief and incorporate somatic-based methods to express anger and sadness in effective ways. Today, his coaching, curriculum, and frameworks are utilized to assist high-achievers, successful entrepreneurs, men, first responders, veterans, and individuals dealing with extreme stress and trauma. When I first encountered Joshua's work, I was deeply moved by his personal story of loss and his journey toward finding meaning amidst grief and heartbreak. After listening to him speak, I could truly feel his well-rounded and embodied wisdom in various realms that I've been exploring for a number of years, such as grief and nervous system regulation work, men's work, and relationships. In this interview, Joshua and I delve deeply into all of those subjects, and how they're interconnected. This is a conversation I highly recommend you listen to the end, as it provides invaluable insights and personal experiences into loss, grief, relationships and personal growth.. I am incredibly excited for this upcoming episode as we're going to be switching things up a little bit. Instead of interviewing yet another incredible guest, I actually recently had the great honor of being interviewed myself on the podcast „Unhooked“ with my friend Jeremy Lipkowitz. And I felt called to share this interview on the „heart of man“ for a number of reasons. First of all, this has been the first podcast interview I was a guest on in 2 years which provided a space where I could share some of my most current perspectives, teachings and experiences, particularly diving deep into my passion within the field of men's work. During the interview, Jeremey asked me some thought provoking questions exploring reason why I started the podcast and what my intention is with it. And I wanted to provide this discussion here for all of you to get a glimpse of why I am so passionate about this project. Coupled with a conversation around my past where I spoke to my experiences with heart-break and themes of life and death through my work as a paramedic, I attempted to shed deeper light on how I came to be where I am today. One more thing to note, is that a significant portion of our interview revolved around the topic of pornography and sexual shame in service to the work that Jeremy does in the realm of Porn Addiction. Having personally grappled with challenges around porn and sexual shame, and working with numerous men on these subjects, I happily agreed for us to go into depth. My sincere hope is that this conversation will provide value to you, whether its through the share my personal journey or the knowledge I felt compelled to bring, which has been foundational in my own growth. I'd like to close off this introduction with a an offer which is if you are a man or you know a man who may desire support during this time, let this be your invitation to reach out with the contact links provided below. And I am here to see how I may be able to serve you. Within the conversation Jeremy and I speak to following topics: The ending of a relationship that instigated my desire to start "Heart of man" The challenges that I had to face as a result of the break-up What my intention is with the podcast & the work I do with men My experiences as a paramedic that motivated me to enter my own unique path My first exposure to pornography Why I ended up using pornography to soothe my the pain I couldn't cope with How to address sexual shame and embrace one's own sexuality How I overcame pornography addiction How we can live a more purposeful life & experience deeper meaning The importance of brotherhood — Follow Alex on Instagram: @alexlehmann_ Interested in getting 1:1 Coaching Support? In which the Mister joins me in reviewing BLUE JAY (2016), currently available on Netflix.  Directed by Alex Lehmann and written by Mark Duplass, we follow the story of how Amanda (Sarah Paulson) and Jim (Mark Duplass) reconnect after more than 2 decades and go down memory lane together in sometimes goofy and sometimes excruciatingly heartbreaking ways.  Paulson and Duplass are heartbreakingly beautiful as two people who come together again after so much time apart but you can tell they still have a deep love for each other.  The film has a run time of 1 h and 20 m and is unrated according to IMDB.   Filmmaker Alex Lehmann joins Erin on the podcast to discuss the tough questions about the body positivity and body neutrality movements - can we look at these movements objectively? Can you identity with body neutrality and still accept compliments on your appearance? If we assign a value to beauty, does that also mean anything that doesn't fit into those parameters is not beautiful? How do we celebrate ourselves in a way that doesn't make another group "less than"? Is it possible to see people as they are with no judgement on their appearance?   We also talk about the one kind of body shaming many of us still participate in - male genitalia shaming.   How do we fix these problems? Is there an answer?   We attempt to tackle these topics in this episode!   www.patreon.com/erindarling instagram.com/ahotpizzaass

Today on the show we have returning champion director Alex Lehmann. I asked him back on the show to discuss his new Netflix film Paddleton starring indie film legend Mark Duplass and Ray Ramano. Paddleton is about an unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer.I know, it sounds hilarious. The film is beautiful, touching an actually pretty funny. I wanted Alex to come back on the show (Listen here to Alex's first appearance on the show) to discuss the process of working with Mark Duplass and Ray Ramano and to breakdown how a Netflix feature film is shot using a Scriptment and not a traditional screenplay. We also discuss his other amazing film Asperger's Are Us and how making that passion project led to him working with Mark. This is an inspirational talk with some knowledge bombs thrown in. Enjoy my conversation with the talented and ever humble Alex Lehmann.

BLUE JAY is the story of former high school sweethearts Jim (Mark Duplass) and Amanda (Sarah Paulson) who have been out of touch for more than 20 years — but by sheer coincidence, they run into each other at a grocery store back in their alpine hometown of Crestline, California. Jim’s mother has died and he’s here to put her house on the market. Amanda is visiting her pregnant sister. They get to talking, first over coffee, then over beer and jellybeans. Before they know it they’re at Jim’s mother’s house, where everything sends them spiraling back into the past. Jim and Amanda’s lives have taken different directions, yet here they are, reconnecting like nothing has changed. This is one of 2016’s best films. For news on Blue Jay go to: blue-jay aspergers-are-us-film-posterASPERGER’S ARE US is the story of the members of the comedy troupe “Asperger’s Are Us,” whose “condition” make it easier to associate with a faceless audience than with their own families. No matter who the crowd, best friends Noah, New Michael, Jack and Ethan have one simple mantra: “We would much rather the audience appreciate us as comedians than people who have overcome adversity.” In this coming-of-age heartfelt documentary, this band of brothers finds themselves at a crossroad. With real life pulling them apart, they decide to plan one ambitious farewell show before they all go their separate ways. 'Blue Jay' & Directing Mark Duplass with Alex LehmannOn today's episode I have the pleasure of interviewing first-time feature film director Alex Lehmann. And his first film is a hell of way to launch a directing career. His new film is called Blue Jay starring Mark Duplass (who also wrote and produced) and Sarah Paulson (recent Emmy Winner for The People vs OJ Simpson).Blue Jay just had it's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews:"If the hour and a half spent inside this story seems fleeting, it's only because sometimes that's the best you can ask of a good nostalgia trip." - IndieWire"Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson have extraordinary chemistry, painting a cumulative portrait of the fragility and rareness of being truly in sync with a partner." - Slate MagazineMeeting by chance when they return to their tiny California hometown, two former high-school sweethearts (Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson) reflect on their shared past through the lens of their differently dissatisfied presents, in this tender, wise and affecting chamber drama from first-time feature director Alex Lehmann.Check out my conversation with Alex Lehmann and if you listen to until the end he promises to give out Mark Duplass' personal cell number. Apparently this is how Mark likes to be pitched. Enjoy!
