Join the hosts as they take you through all the news from around the world and across the UK.  In this week's show, we have an update on the pilot that crashed the Hawker Hunter at the Shoreham airshow back in 2015, Southwest Airlines says goodbye To Its 'Bags Fly Free' policy and an Air India flight returns to Chicago after a passenger clogs a toilet with clothes and a blanket. Still, saves on loo roll I suppose, albeit a somewhat industrial way of going about things!    In the military, we look at an article that claims that insufficient pilot resource is nonsense as all operations have enough aircrew according to the RAF, and US air force B52 bombers fly close to the Russian border for their latest mission out of RAF Fairford.

Despite the Pentagon openly acknowledging that they're out of weapons, that the military is depleted due to supporting Ukraine and Israel, they are sending their last resources to their masters in Israel which will perpetuate a war that will likely escalate into World War 3. Iran has vowed to strike Israel and retaliate for the recent attacks by Israel on Tehran. Iran is of course a close ally of Russia and China. This is snowballing fast. Palestinian hostages are being branded with numbers by the Israeli government and humiliated as the last hospitals are targeted and destroyed with children inside. Tens of thousands of women and children have been killed thus far and it appears to only be the beginning. Baalbek, Lebanon, one of the world's most historic cities is being pummeled by Israel, risking not just innocent lives but also temples and megaliths that are thousands of years old and rewrite history. Rules are being passed in Canada and the United States to potentially imprison those who criticize Israel by blanketly calling people "anti-semitic." We are already seeing this in many countries. These rules also pertain to Zionists shutting down your bank account if you criticize them. It's almost like they're desperate to prove the stereotypes true. Zionist Ben Shapiro says Trump will put globalist Mike Pompeo and David Friedman in charge of Israel policy. Mike Pompeo famously wants to destroy Iran. If people don't see how this is organized chaos to aid in the power shift between the west and the east and to establish emergency orders leading to the Great Reset, there's not much left to say... This is how the New World Order is established. A global technocracy in the face of chaos that was orchestrated by the very same psychopaths who claim to come with solutions. Prepare yourselves. Pero sí mucha música, Jethro Tull, The Rolling Stones, The B52'S, Bob Dyllan...

It is was 7pm (ish) on the 25th of January, 2023. Gemma was on her porch eating chicken. Mia was on her couch drinking espresso martini's. Taryn was in Canberra being announced as Australian of the Year.  What followed was an epic year for Taz and her team at The Embrace Collective including 90 odd flights, hundreds of keynotes and appearances, tens of thousands of fist bumps, 1 million children reached, and many millions more parents, teachers, coaches and leaders now better equipped to address the epidemic of body image distress in young people.    In this episode, we dive deep into Taryn's reflections on her experience as 2023 Australian of the Year. You'll hear behind the scenes stories of how Taz dealt with intense public scrutiny, grappled with targeted critique, and struggled not to swear all year.  As her chicken-eating, espresso-martini-drinking mates serve up some tasty questions, Taz dishes out the facts and her feelings about the year, dares to share some of her “head lines” (her inner monologue) behind the newspaper headlines, and declares her enduring commitment to ”fierce kindness”. She also reveals some juicy and hilarious stories that you're not going to want to miss. (Pssst…something to do with singing with the B52's and stealing from the White House!)  Listen as we explore Taryn's pearls of wisdom about leadership, how “pottering” became her word of 2024, and how she edits Michelle Obama's famous quote about highs and lows to get real about the “mess in the middle“.   We do need to warn you: Taz had to hold her swear words in for a whole year. In this episode, she does, therefore, let a few rip. You'll be pleased to know, on the matter of letting rip, that she did NOT, and we repeat, she DID NOT fart in the White House. That said, you may wish to take care with sharing this episode out loud if you've got little ears around.

Amerikanska B-52:an Stratofortress har varit i tjänst sedan kalla krigets tidiga kärnvapenavskräckning. The North American X-15 was an experimental Air Force and NASA Hypersonic Rocket powered aircraft that was used to investigate materials, aerodynamic design, and control systems associated with high altitude boost and reentry.  Launched from an NB-52 mothership the X-15 would engage its rocket motor and perform what was then termed a space leap: leave the atmosphere, enter the fringes of outer space and perform a re-entry. Over 50 years later, the X-15 still holds the speed record as the fastest man powered aircraft: Mach 6.72If you enjoy this episode, subscribe to this podcast, you can find links to most podcast streaming services here: PilotPhotog Podcast (buzzsprout.com)Sign up for the free weekly newsletter Hangar Talk with Tog here: https://pilotphotog.substack.com You can check out my YouTube channel for many videos on fighter planes here:https://youtube.com/c/PilotPhotog If you'd like to support this podcast:https://www.patreon.com/PilotPhotog And finally, you can follow me on Twitter here:https://twitter.com/pilotphotogSupport the show

In 1963, there was an unusual crash of a U.S. Air Force B-52 Bomber. The plane, while attempting to escape severe turbulence, lost its vertical stabilizer and rudder – essentially losing its ability to fly straight. The plane lost control and then crashed into a mountain in north-central Maine, located in the far northeastern corner of the United States. The crash killed seven of the nine crew members. The two who survived – one spent the frigid January night in shoulder-deep snow and the other found himself stuck in a tree with temperatures far below zero as they waited to be found and rescued. This story is about the men and the plane – one of the most well-known Air Force planes (and, perhaps, one of the most well-known in the world). We'll also look at the weather conditions that led to the crash, the crash-site memorial established after the crash and the changes in aircraft design that impacted not only future generations of the B-52 bomber, but the airliners we all fly in today.

Operation Linebacker, the code name for the new interdiction campaign, would have four objectives: to isolate North Vietnam from its sources of supply by destroying railroad bridges and rolling stock in and around Hanoi and north-eastwards toward the Chinese frontier; the targeting of primary storage areas and marshalling yards; to destroy storage and transshipment points and to eliminate (or at least damage) the North's air defense system. With nearly 85 percent of North Vietnam's imports (which arrived by sea) blocked by Pocket Money, the administration and the Pentagon believed that this would cut its final lines of communication with its socialist allies. China alone shipped an average of 22,000 tons of supplies a month over two rail lines and eight major roads that linked it with North Vietnam. On 10 May Operation Linebacker began with mass bombing operations against North Vietnam by tactical fighter aircraft of the Seventh Air Force and Task Force 77. Their targets included the railroad switching yards at Yên Viên and the Paul Doumer Bridge, on the northern outskirts of Hanoi. A total of 414 sorties were flown on the first day of the operation, 120 by the Air Force and 294 by the Navy and they encountered the heaviest single day of air-to-air combat during the Vietnam War, with 11 VPAF MiGs (four MiG-21s and seven MiG-17s) and two Air Force F-4s shot down.[45] Anti-aircraft artillery and over 100 surface-to-air missile firings also brought down two U.S. Navy aircraft (one of which was flown by aces Duke Cunningham and William P. Driscoll). By the end of the month, American aircraft had destroyed 13 bridges along the rail lines running from Hanoi to the Chinese border. Another four were destroyed between the capital and Haiphong, including the notorious Thanh Hóa Bridge. Several more bridges were brought down along the rail line leading to the south toward the DMZ. Targets were then switched to petroleum and oil storage and transportation networks and North Vietnamese airfields. There was an immediate impact on the battlefield in South Vietnam. Shelling by PAVN artillery dropped off by one-half between 9 May and 1 June. This slowdown was not due to an immediate shortage of artillery shells but rather to a desire to conserve ammunition. U.S. intelligence analysts believed that PAVN had enough stockpiled supplies to sustain their campaigns throughout the autumn. The intensity of the bombing campaign was reflected by the sharp increase in the number of strike and support sorties flown in Southeast Asia as a whole: from 4,237 for all services, including the RVNAF, during the month preceding the invasion, to 27,745 flown in support of ARVN forces from the beginning of April to the end of June (20,506 of them flown by the Air Force). B-52s provided an additional 1,000 sorties during the same period. The North was feeling the pressure, admitting in the official PAVN history that "between May and June only 30 percent of supplies called for in our plan actually reached the front-line units." In total, 41,653 Linebacker missions dropped 155,548 tons of bombs. In addition to interdicting the road and rail system of North Vietnam, Linebacker also systematically attacked its air defense system. The VPAF, with approximately 200 interceptors, strongly contested these attacks throughout the campaign. Navy pilots, employing a mutually supporting "loose deuce" tactical formation and many with TOPGUN training, enjoyed a kill ratio of 6:1 in their favor in May and June, such that after that the VPAF rarely engaged them thereafter. In contrast, the Air Force experienced a 1:1 kill ratio through the first two months of the campaign, as seven of its eventual 24 Linebacker air-to-air losses occurred without any corresponding VPAF loss in a twelve-day period between 24 June and 5 July. Air Force pilots were hampered by use of the outdated "fluid four" tactical formations (a four-plane, two element formation in which only the leader did the shooting and in which the outside wingmen were vulnerable) dictated by service doctrine. Also contributing to the parity was a lack of air combat training against dissimilar aircraft, a deficient early warning system, and ECM pod formations that mandated strict adherence to formation flying. During August the introduction of real-time early warning systems, increased aircrew combat experience and degraded VPAF ground control interception capabilities reversed the trend to a more favorable 4:1 kill ratio. Linebacker saw several other "firsts". On the opening day of the operation, Navy Lieutenant Duke Cunningham and his radar intercept officer, Lieutenant (j.g.) William P. Driscoll became the first U.S. air aces of the Vietnam War when they shot down their fifth MiG. On 28 August, the Air Force gained its first ace when Captain Richard S. Ritchie downed his fifth enemy aircraft. Twelve days later, Captain Charles B. DeBellevue (who had been Ritchie's backseater during four of his five victories) downed two more MiGs, bringing his total to six. On 13 October another weapons officer, Captain Jeffrey S. Feinstein, was credited with his fifth MiG, making him the final Air Force ace
