In this episode of Everyone's Talkin' Money, we're diving into the untold story of stay-at-home moms and financial independence with Karen Johnson, also known as The 21st Century SAHM. Karen opens up about her powerful new book, What Do I Want to Be When They Grow Up?, and the identity crisis many mothers face when they step away from a paycheck to raise their kids. You'll hear: How to reclaim your financial worth as a stay-at-home mom — even if you're not bringing in income The emotional and financial cost of sacrificing your career for your family and how to rebuild your sense of self Why investing in yourself isn't selfish — and how to do it without the mom guilt How to have honest money conversations with your partner when you're not earning a paycheck Karen's top advice for women in their 40s navigating big life pivots and financial decisions Whether you're a stay-at-home mom, a working mom, or somewhere in between, this conversation will remind you that your worth isn't defined by a paycheck — and that it's never too late to invest in you. You'll walk away learning:  Many women feel guilt about pursuing interests outside of motherhood. Motherhood can feel like a death of previous identity. Social media often portrays an unrealistic view of motherhood. Women are conditioned to feel guilty about not enjoying every moment. Perfectionism can negatively impact mental health in motherhood. It's important to focus on accomplishments rather than shortcomings. Unpaid labor in the household is valuable and should be recognized. Women should feel empowered to ask for what they deserve. Many women handle day-to-day finances but lack knowledge of larger financial matters. It's crucial for both partners to be educated about household finances. Financial literacy can prevent future hardships in case of unexpected events. Women often feel guilty about spending money on themselves. Selfishness in financial decisions can be redefined as self-care. Finding personal hobbies is essential for mental well-being. Aging can bring a sense of freedom and acceptance. Conversations about money should be open and honest, without guilt. In this interview, Marjolein gives us a glimpse of her experiences, struggles, and perceptions as a multi-passionate language learner. Episode 181: SPIKE Prime – A fun new way for schools to teach STEAM, with LEGO! The three Parenting Bytes hosts took a field trip this week to the unveiling of a new STEAM project-based learning tool from LEGO Education, called SPIKE Prime. LEGO Education recognizes that STEAM activities for middle schoolers are fraught with issues, such as most robotics clubs being opt-in type activities that happen after school, and not enough teacher training available to make classroom STEAM lessons with robotics viable in many schools. To help combat these issues, SPIKE Prime was designed from the ground up to work within classrooms, giving teachers everything they need to lead a comprehensive lesson that be taught within a 45-minute period. After the launch announcement, we had a great discussion with Marianne Bach, who was one of the key people on this product’s development and spoke to us passionately about the importance of the “A” in STEAM (art), how SPIKE Prime was designed specifically for the classroom, and how you can help get it into your child’s school. We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did, and thanks so much to LEGO Education for inviting us to the launch! “I don’t chase happiness; I choose what’s worth struggling for.”  - Matt Poyner  Many of us may find ourselves occasionally putting off important things in life because we are "too busy."  Matt Poyner is a backcountry outdoorsman, dad, artist, carpenter, ER doctor, graphic designer, husband, and brewer, among other things (and not necessarily in that order.)  You could say he leads a busy life, but he might call it a life of fulfillment. In our discussion, we have a few laughs and dig into: What makes being an emergency room doctor the perfect vocation for a person of varied interests. How physical struggle and exertion has contributed to human evolution His philosophy on parenting Matt’s four elements of a fulfilled life. For Life on Purpose Episode #74, my guest is writer, artist, career coach and community leader Emilie Wapnick, the Founder and Creative Director at Puttylike, where she helps multipotentialites (people with many passions, skills, and creative pursuits) integrate all of their interests to create dynamic, fulfilling and fruitful careers and lives. In this inspiring conversation, we discussed her brand new book, How To Be Everything, A Guide for Those Who (Still) Don't Know What They Want to Be When They Grow Up (Harper Collins), in which she flips the script on conventional career advice. Instead of suggesting that you specialize, choose a niche, or accumulate 10,000 hours of practice in a single area, she provides a practical framework for building a sustainable life around ALL of your passions. “You don't have to choose one thing! That's the big secret no one tells you. " About: Emilie Wapnick is a writer, career coach, blogger, and community leader. Emilie Wapnick is what she calls a “multipotentialite”.  And recently I learned, I'm one too.  There's a good chance if you're reading this, you have some multipotentilite tendencies as well.   According to Emilie's site: "Multipotentialites generally have diverse interests across numerous domains and may be capable of success in many endeavors or professions, they are confronted with unique decisions as a result of these choices." In her new book, How to be everything - A Guide for Those Who Still Don't Know What They Want to Be When They Grow Up, Emilie dissects exactly what it means to be one of these gifted, multi-talented individuals. In it, she explains how you can more easily approach a world where specialization reigns supreme, and we learn that in today's society flexibility can prove to be more lucrative than specialty.  I first came across Emilie's work when one of my clients told me about her community of multipotentialites, called “the puttytribe” and I knew I had to connect with her. As someone who firmly believes that not everyone is built to follow one true passion,  I knew that Emilie would have some awesome insights to share. Apparently I'm not the only one who resonates with this concept, because her TEDx talk titled “Why some people don't have a true calling” went viral and has since been viewed over 3 MILLION times.  Emilie is paving the way for the polymath/multipotentialite community, and really anyone who has ever felt like they couldn't be fit into a box.  SUBSCRIBE:  iTunes | Stitcher | Youtube FOLLOW EMILIE: Website | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:  How goal setting differs for someone who has a lot of interests.
