No primeiro bloco discutimos a questão: Por que temos que ser úteis?A pergunta logo evoca outra. O que queremos dizer com “útil”? Essa palavra evoca o fantasma do utilitarismo que, nas palavras de Paulo Henrique Martins, é uma filosofia moral que propõe um individualismo fundado no cálculo interesseiro dos prazeres e dos sofrimentos. Esse modo de pensar teria consequências nefastas, tanto por trazer consigo uma imagem do ser humano como essencialmente egoísta e autointeressado, quanto por negar outros princípios de organização das relações sociais. Por outro lado, podemos pensar em um uso mais coloquial da palavra útil, quando por exemplo dizemos que alguma coisa ou alguém tem utilidade, ou seja, serve para atingir determinado fim. Aqui, o imperativo categórico de Kant nos interpela, pois segundo ele não deveríamos nunca tratar uma pessoa como meramente meio para um fim. Não obstante as reservas éticas, parece que há algo profundamente enraizado na vida em sociedade que nos impele a ser “útil”. Sem um papel social, sem estar imerso em relações de interdependências, onde nos sentimos necessitados e requisitados, o ser humano se sente perdido, desamparado e alienado.Como exemplo, vale mencionar o livro “Bullshit Jobs” de David Graeber, notório pensador anarquista. Publicado em 2018, o livro teve ampla repercussão para além das esferas acadêmicas. O que tocou as pessoas? Muitos se identificaram com a descrição dos “bullshit Jobs” ou “empregos de mentirinha” que Graeber descreve. Aparentemente, muitas pessoas sentem que estão em empregos sem qualquer utilidade e que não contribuem para a sociedade de maneira significativa, o que causa sentimentos de angústia e vazio existencial. Aqui, o sentimento de ser “útil” pode ser compreendido como manifestação do impulso básico pela socialidade, a necessidade de pertencer em uma teia de relações significativas e compensadoras simbólica e materialmente. Em contraste, autores como Jonathan Crary e Hartmut Rosa argumentam persuasivamente que o mundo contemporâneo é caracterizado pela constante aceleração da vida e pela crescente pressão por performance. Somos incentivados (ou até mesmo forçados) a fazer cada vez mais em menos tempo, a transformar todos os momentos da vida, especialmente o “tempo livre” em “tempo útil”. Assim, gradativamente, o ócio, a contemplação e até mesmo o sono perdem espaço e legitimidade em nosso cotidiano.Por que temos que ser úteis? De onde vem esse impulso pela atividade constante? Den tyske sosiologen Hartmut Rosa hevder at teknologisk og sosial akselerasjon fører til fremmedgjøring. Men også at vi kan finne veien tilbake gjennom resonans – en dyp, toveis relasjon til verden. Nylig kom et utvalg av Rosas tekster for første gang på norsk. Idéhistoriker Aurora Jacobsen Evenshaug har skrevet forord til denne boken. Hartmut Rosa ist einer der bedeutendsten Soziologen unsere Zeit. Er beschreibt die moderne Gesellschaft, als eine, die im Hamsterrad immer schneller dreht und dabei die Beziehung zur Welt zu verlieren droht. Und er zeigt auf, wie wir dagegenhalten können. Unsere Gesellschaft sei gefangen in einem Steigerungswahn, sagt Rosa. Wer stillsteht, drohe abzusteigen. So sei es denn auch nicht zu Gier, die uns antreibe, sondern die Angst. Wir laufen, um auf dem Laufenden zu bleiben. Der Gesellschaft fehle der Glauben an eine bessere Zukunft. Von diesem Gefühl könnten rechtspopulistische Parteien wie die AfD stark profitieren. Rosa belässt es aber nicht mit der Problemanalyse. Er hat mit dem Begriff «Resonanz» ein Gegenkonzept entworfen. Doch wie lebt sich ein Leben in Resonanz? Hartmut Rosa ist Professor in Jena und Direktor des Max-Weber-Kollegs an der Universität Erfurt. Er hat zahlreiche bedeutende Preise gewonnen, seine Bücher wurden in verschiedene Sprachen übersetzt.

„Jsem švorc,“ zní název jedné eseje od současného sociologa a filozofa Hartmuta Rosy. Autor si nestěžuje na to, že jeho práce málo nese, ale že on sám už nic dalšího nesnese. Nemá na mysli finanční, ale časovou insolvenci. Hartmut Rosa v eseji poznamenává: „Už nejsem schopen plnit své závazky. Naprosto selhávám. Kdyby měl tento příspěvek k něčemu být, potřeboval bych aspoň tři dny, ale já jej musím napsat za pár hodin.“ V tomto životním pocitu se patrně najde ledaskdo. Časovou tíseň navíc Rosa učinil svým výzkumným tématem: moderna je spjatá s tím, že jsme všichni, co se času týče, žebráci. Čím více se navíc snažíme přizpůsobit rychlosti, tím spíše se propadáme do zoufalství. Když se dnes nevyspíme a propracujeme noc, zítra budeme ještě citlivější na stres. Když se naučíme brát doplňky na zvyšování výkonnosti, můžeme ohrozit své zdraví; když se z toho navíc stane norma a ty doplňky bude brát stále více lidí, posune se to, co se od všech očekává. Teze o zrychlující se moderně není nepřesvědčivá. Ale staví na kontrastu vůči minulosti, která prý byla méně stresující. S tím je spjaté nebezpečí romantizace minulosti, v níž prý bylo na všechno více času. Ale copak to může být pravda? Vždyť pojem volného času je vyloženě moderní výdobytek. Život se navíc z jedné strany možná zrychluje, z druhé však zpomaluje. Vzrostl věk dožití a člověk na to zareagoval odkládáním rodičovství, manželství, dostudování. Mladí lidé získali čas na studium; „malý lidé“ čas na dětství. Třeba německý filozof Peter Sloterdijk proto na teorie zrychlování pohlíží skepticky. Nezavrhuje ji, ale vtahuje do hry ještě jedno hledisko. Co když to není tak, že objektivně stoupá stres, co když je to spíše tak, že se prohlubuje naše citlivost na stres? To není útok na citlivost. Sloterdijk nepochybuje o tom, že je spolutvůrkyní demokratických pořádků: i díky citlivosti jsme v druhém člověku rozpoznali druhé já a přisoudili každému rovná práva. Akorát se v nás také vytváří – působením té stejné citlivosti – nekonečný potenciál pro nespokojenost. „Všechny úlevy, které moderní společenství skýtají, jsou odsouzeny k tomu, aby byly pohlceny zvýšenou senzibilizací. Zákon rostoucí nespokojenosti v demokraciích stále čeká na své systematické zdůvodnění,“ poznamenává Peter Sloterdijk v knize Stres a svoboda. Kapitoly I. Die großen christlichen Kirchen sind in der Krise – die Gründe: vielfältig. Klar ist jedoch, noch nie waren so wenige Menschen in Deutschland Mitglied in der evangelischen oder der katholischen Kirche wie heute. Kirche – für viele ist das ein aus der Zeit gefallenes Auslaufmodell. Da überrascht es, wenn ausgerechnet ein Soziologe sagt: „Demokratie braucht Religion“. Hartmut Rosa ist bekannt für seine messerscharfen Analysen der „beschleunigten Gesellschaft“, die daraus entwickelte „Resonanztheorie“. Menschen, so seine Grundthese, müssten wieder mehr mit anderen und mit der Welt in Beziehung treten. Und an dieser Stelle könnten und müssten die Kirchen eine wichtige Rolle übernehmen. Wie die aussehen könnte und inwiefern die Krise der christlichen Kirchen in Deutschland eng zusammenhängt mit der Krise der Demokratie erläutert der Soziologe Hartmut Rosa im Gespräch mit Katja Weise. I am thrilled to share my conversation with the renowned sociologist Hartmut Rosa. It was a unique and thought-provoking dialogue delving into the intricacies of modernity, control, and resonance. Rosa touches on various elements, from the role of resonance in a fulfilling life to the necessity of a common good in society, providing an insightful exploration into contemporary socio-political and spiritual issues.  This conversation took place at Princeton Theological Seminary as part of The Church, The Pastor, And Resonance In An Accelerated Age event. The team at The Center for Barth Studies did a fantastic job hosting the event, I am grateful for all the energy they put into it. Hartmut Rosa is professor of sociology at the Institute of Sociology at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and director of the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt, Germany. He has worked with the New School for Social Research in New York and the universities of Augsburg, Duisburg-Essen and Manheim, among others. Often considered a leading representative of the new critical theory, his research interests include the sociology of time and identity formation. Notable among his publications are Social Acceleration, The Uncontrollability of the World , Resonance: A Sociology of Our Relationship to the World, and his newest book, Democracy Needs Religion. Ich recherchierte zwei weitere Jahre und stieß dabei auch auf eine Theorie, die mir wie eine Art Schlüssel erschien ... Dieser Theorie – die der Resonanz – und der Bedeutung, die sie für mich hat, widmete ich das letzte Kapitel meines Buches „Am besten draußen”. Und in der heutigen Folge lese ich Euch genau dieses Kapitel vor. The social theorist Charles Taylor says that part of what characterizes a secular age is that there are multiple competing options for what constitutes the good life.The sociologist Hartmut Rosa argues that modern citizens most often locate that good in optionality, speed, and reach, which creates a phenomenon he calls “social acceleration.”Professor of theology Andrew Root explores the ideas of Taylor, Rosa, and social acceleration in his work, including in his book The Congregation in a Secular Age. While Andy largely looks at social acceleration through the lens of its effect on churches, it has implications for every aspect of our lives, from work to family. We explore those implications today on the show, unpacking the way that seeking stability through growth leads to feelings of depression, exhaustion, and discombobulation, how we collect possibilities while not knowing what we're aiming for, and how we've traded the burden of shoulds for the burden of coulds. Professor Hartmund Rosa lehrt in Jena, ist Soziologe und Politikwissenschaftler und Direktor des Max-Weber-Kollegs in Erfurt. Viel Beachtung erhielt er für seine Theorie der sozialen Beschleunigung – vereinfacht ausgedrückt versucht Rosa zu verstehen, warum der Fortschritt und die damit verbundene technische Beschleunigung der Welt nicht dazu geführt hat, dass wir mehr Zeit haben – sondern, das genaue Gegenteil. Harald Welzer ist Sozialpsychologe, Soziologe und Autor.
