You may recall that on the last episode of GoGreenfields, we featured the first ever GoGreenfields' Iron Chef at Home Competition, with the amazing US Wellness Meats providing our secret ingredient - pork butt.  That was such an amazing episode, and we enjoyed filming it so much that we simply couldn't resist reaching out to someone with a great deal more experience with the heat of battle in the kitchen.   Meet the Real Iron Chef   Beau MacMillan was certainly able to tell us a thing or two about what it means to win an Iron Chef competition.  This real life Iron Chef received his crown in 2006, he took down none other than Bobby Flay in a Kobe Beef showdown. Chef Beau, commonly referred to as BeauMac, is nearly as familiar with television sets as he is with kitchen utensils.  While his first love was always the craft of cuisine, he found fame on the small screen, appearing on shows such as Guy's Grocery Games, Worst Cooks in America (fortunately not competing for the title, but rather as a coach and advisor), and Beat the Chefs.    The Iron Chef in His Own Kitchen   Chef MacMillan has won multiple awards for his menus.  He was co-founder of Elements, a restaurant in Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort in Arizona, where he now serves as Culinary Advisor.  He is also the acting Culinary Director for Cala in the Senna House.   Needless to say, we were very impressed with his resume and even more thrilled with his decision to sit down for an interview with us, here on GoGreenfields.   Cooking Like an Iron Chef This is a recipe from Chef Beau's Cookbook, The Alzheimer's Prevention Cookbook: 100 Recipes to Boost Brain Health.  We gave it a try ourselves and the outcome was delicious!     Cannellini Bean Dip with Roasted Red Peppers    This spread fits right in with the Mediterranean diet. Cannellini beans, a staple of Tuscany, Italy, are a great legume. Their benefit is further enhanced by the polyphenol-rich peppers and onions as well as the Brain-Boosting Broth. Try this dip on a piece of grilled artisan bread, with a little drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil.    MAKES ABOUT 2 CUPS    Ingredients   2 bacon slices, diced  2 tablespoons diced celery  2 tablespoons diced yellow onion  2 tablespoons peeled, diced parsnip  1 tablespoon chopped garlic  2 cups dried cannellini beans, soaked overnight and drained  5 cups Bone Broth (he had his own broth recipe in the cookbook, so this is a substitution) 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves Salt and freshly ground black pepper  2 red bell peppers    Directions   In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook the bacon until the fat has rendered and the bacon is crisp, 4 to 6 minutes.  Add the celery, onion, parsnip, and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to brown, about 2 minutes.  Add the beans, broth, and thyme.  Bring to a gentle simmer and cook, covered, until the beans are tender, 1 to 1½ hours.  With an immersion blender and using a pulsing action, puree the bean mixture in the pan, stopping when the dip has a nice, chunky texture.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.  Transfer to a serving bowl and let cool.  Roast the red bell peppers in the oven at 375°F on a baking sheet, on the grill, or held over a flame on a gas oven with tongs.  Char the skin, rotating it for even charring, for 5 to 8 minutes.  Once the skin starts cracking, place the peppers in a small bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap for 5 minutes.  The skin will steep and separate from the peppers so that you can peel it off easily. [1:07:52]The value of reading transcripts (and, perhaps more painfully, audience feedback on social media) of your interviews early on in order to improve, as well as other methods of soliciting torture from select friends for personal development. [1:10:00]Why becoming a better interviewer is really becoming your best self as an interviewer. Remember: what's worked for Joe Rogan or James Lipton or Larry King may not work for you. [1:17:04]How long does Tim spend on prep prior to an interview? What are some helpful shortcuts and processes to squeeze the most juice out of this time? [1:21:22]Has Tim ever done too much research before an interview — to the point that the ensuing conversation was devoid of any meaningful surprises? [1:27:15]What might cause Tim to push pause on publishing an interview, and how would he break the news diplomatically to the guest? What efforts can be made to salvage something useful from the experience for both parties? [1:30:13]Does Tim always read a guest's new book before he interviews them? [1:32:06]Has Tim ever had to pause during an interview to regroup and replan its direction? What steps do I take to make sure the guest and I sound as good as possible? [1:45:19]Why you probably want to funnel your listeners to your own website instead of something like a Facebook page that uses algorithims you can't control. [1:50:00]Is growth as important as creating good content? What are the most effective ways to grow an audience that will find that good content? [1:55:14]Is there a point to putting audio-only content on a video platform like YouTube? While growth has no magic bullet and the tools are forever changing, here are some evergreen references that might help you find the anchor that will work for your needs. As a creator, you will naturally have ideas for things that you want to create. The problem most people run into is turning those ideas into realities. When we talk about taste, we mean those things you want to create. Those ideas are influenced by the things you love, filtered through your brain, and given a unique spin or angle. The challenge is to match your ability to your creative imagination.It's OK if your ability isn't there yet. I det här avsnittet kommer jag att fortsätta att prata om det jag tog upp förra veckan. våren kommer ju, som jag sa då, att bli en serie av poddar där det genomgående temat är nystart. Vi funderar på vad som kan göras och hur det kan göras för att ge oss själva en nystart. Och vi tar det steg för steg, en sak i taget. Du lyssnar förresten på monkey mindset, en podcast av mig som heter Daniel Sjöstedt och jag är mental tränare. Det finns en ganska nyutgiven bok som heter Tools of titans. Det här är en tegelsten på över 650 sidor (kolla upp). Och den är skriven av en kille som heter Tim Ferriss. Tim Ferriss är mest känd för sin bok som heter four hour work week där han lägger ut en plan för hur man kan jobba mindre, tjäna mer, och leva ett mer tillfredsställande liv och nu förenklar jag lite men i boken så berättar Tim Ferriss om hur han höll på att jobba sig in i väggen, tog sig en tankeställare, och sedan helt byggde om sitt eget företag till att bli mindre beroende av honom som person. Och ändå mer effektivt. Han automatiserade och skapade regler och utnyttjade de hjälpmedel och system som redan fanns tillgängliga , till max. Och det här handlar om allt från hur han hanterade email till kundsupport, till möten, till att anlita virtuella assistenter och mycket mer. Och bokens titel hintar ju då mot att han lyckades att få ner sin egen arbetsbörda till bara fyra timmar per vecka och eftersom Ferris också såg till att hans arbetsuppgifter kunde göras oberoende av var i världen han befann sig så skapade den här boken både en livsstil för honom själv och en hel rörelse av personer som ville göra det han gjorde. Det är en spännande och inspirerande bok även om man förstås ska ta en hel del av det han skriver med en nypa salt och utvärdera det själv. Och nu är "four hour" ett helt koncept som Tim Ferriss har skapat med böcker som the four hour body och the four hour chef. Men vad jag ville komma till när jag började prata om Tim Ferriss är ju hans nya bok, tools of titans. I den så har Ferris, delvis inom ramen för sin podcast, intervjuat flera hundra högpresterare. Det kan handla om superframgångsrika affärsmän och affärskvinnor, idrottare, akademiker och det handlar också om människor som av en eller annan anledning gått sin egen väg. Lämnat ekorrhjulet och lever sitt liv mer på sina egna villkor än vad gemene man gör. Ferris pratar med dessa människor och försöker få ner det dom säger till väldigt konkreta tips och tricks och handlingsplaner. Och han gör det med allt. Kost, träning, sömn, effektivitet, vila, relationer, allt. Det här är en jättespännande bok och jag är inte klar med den ännu själv. Alla personer som medverkar i boken har sin egen filosofi för vad det innebär att leva ett bra liv. de lägger tyngdpunkten på olika saker och löser vardagsbekymmer på olika sätt. Det finns dock två teman som återkommer gång på gång och Ferris har själv pratat om det här i intervjuer han har gjort om boken. Det första är att de allra flesta, om inte alla, har ett system för hur de vill att deras liv ska vara. Hur omfattande det här systemet är varierar, hur det ser ut varierar men nästan alla har tagit det de lärt sig om sig själva, bara genom att leva livet, funderat på vad som funkar och vad som inte funkar, och försökt att använda det till sin fördel. Jag jobbar bäst på morgonen, alltså ser jag till att göra mina viktigaste saker på morgonen. Jag mår bäst om jag tränar innan jag börjar jobba, alltså ser jag till att hitta tid för träning innan jobbet. Jag får mest gjort om jag skriver min att-göra lista kvällen före alltså gör jag det. Jag blir trött och dåsig om jag äter en viss maträtt. Och trots att jag älskar den här maträtten och trots att den serveras i lunchmatsalen så äter jag den inte om jag behöver vara pigg och alert på eftermiddagen. Det har jag bestämt. Det är mitt system. Och så vidare, och så vidare. Det finns tusentals sådana här insikter i boken, och de spretar åt många olika håll, men de som lever ett väldigt tillfredsställande liv har alltså i regel tagit reda på de här sakerna, vad som funkar för dem och vad som inte funkar för dem och så skapar de rutiner för detta. Anstränger sig för att göra det som de vet fungerar. Det andra som är gemensamt för väldigt många i boken, nästan alla, är att de har någon typ av återkommande mental rutin. Att de varje dag ser till att sinnet får återhämtning och tid att bara vara. Och nu menar jag inte att de kopplar av genom att kolla några timmar på tv eller surfa på nätet eller spela candycrush. Utan de stillar sinnet, oftast genom meditation men det finns gott om alternativ som nämns. Tim Ferriss intryck, och jag håller verkligen med, det är att de som presterar på en hög nivå och samtidigt lever bra liv. alltså inte liv där de jobbar ihjäl sig, försakar sådant som är viktigt för dem eller går under av all yttre press Dom här personerna tar sig i mycket högre utsträckning än vad som är normalt hos oss andra, tid för det här. Mental återhämtning. Att stärka sinnet. På något sätt. Och att göra det regelbundet. Att inte bara börja med mindfulness när du redan har gått in i väggen och sedan sluta när du mår bättre igen och kan börja jobba utan att göra det här till en vana som du gör varje dag. För dig själv. Och det finns ju många olika metoder. Meditation av olika slag. Mindfulness är vanligt. Det är både effektiv och lättillgängligt. Och jag lär ju ut avslappning som jag tycker till viss del påminner mycket om meditation i den mening att du tar kontroll över ditt fokus därmed leds in i trance. men även om jag gillar just mental träning och tycker att det finns många fördelar med att använda sig av den metoden så vill jag uppmana dig, och här kommer då den allra första konkreta uppgiften till dig som vill hänga med i den här nystarten, att hitta en metod som passar dig, att avsätta tid för att införa den, och att redan den här veckan sätta igång. Vad du väljer just nu är inte viktigt, du kommer med största sannolikhet ändå att vilja testa olika saker under resans gång. Tänk på det jag sa i förra avsnittet, att du kan tänka som så att saker och ting ska vara på plats 2018, att du har det här året på dig att testa olika saker och sätta rutinerna. så det behöver inte vara perfekt, det behöver inte gå perfekt, men om du inte börjar så kommer du inte igång. Så välj någonting. I anteckningarna till det här avsnittet så länkar jag till några alternativ bland annat mina egna, självklart, och det finns ett oändligt antal alternativ ute på nätet som du kan testa. Avsätt tid för det här. Mellan 15-30 minuter varje dag är mitt förslag men lägg fokus just nu på att sätta igång. Om du påbörjar och gör säg två minuter, och sedan inte orkar mer eller om det kryper i kroppen, så kan du räkna det som att du har gjort det du ska den dagen. Men hoppa inte över bara för att du inte känner för det. Gör då bara dina två minuter och sluta sedan. På sikt är det mycket bättre att du har gjort bara några minuter per dag och klarat det 45 dagar av 50 än att du mediterat eller tränat mentalt sju dagar av femtio men att du då har gjort det under 25 minuter. I det första fallet håller du på att skapa en vana du med tiden kan bygga vidare på, i det andra fallet kommer vanan aldrig skapas utan du kommer under lång tid framöver behöva förlita dig på att du känner för det eller för att du ska ha tid eller för att inte någon av säkert ett tiotal olika ursäkter inte ska förhindra dig. Så ta tag i det här nu. Eller snart. Välj vad du vill göra. Och börja. Om det känns bättre så kan du ju börja den första i månaden eller på en måndag eller något sådant men bestäm att du ska börja, när du ska börja och vad du ska göra. I det här avsnittet kommer jag att fortsätta att prata om det jag tog upp förra veckan. våren kommer ju, som jag sa då, att bli en serie av poddar där det genomgående temat är nystart. Vi funderar på vad som kan göras och hur det kan göras för att ge oss själva en nystart. Och vi tar det steg för steg, en sak i taget. Du lyssnar förresten på monkey mindset, en podcast av mig som heter Daniel Sjöstedt och jag är mental tränare. Det finns en ganska nyutgiven bok som heter Tools of titans. Det här är en tegelsten på över 650 sidor (kolla upp). Och den är skriven av en kille som heter Tim Ferriss. Tim Ferriss är mest känd för sin bok som heter four hour work week där han lägger ut en plan för hur man kan jobba mindre, tjäna mer, och leva ett mer tillfredsställande liv och nu förenklar jag lite men i boken så berättar Tim Ferriss om hur han höll på att jobba sig in i väggen, tog sig en tankeställare, och sedan helt byggde om sitt eget företag till att bli mindre beroende av honom som person. Och ändå mer effektivt. Han automatiserade och skapade regler och utnyttjade de hjälpmedel och system som redan fanns tillgängliga , till max. Och det här handlar om allt från hur han hanterade email till kundsupport, till möten, till att anlita virtuella assistenter och mycket mer. Och bokens titel hintar ju då mot att han lyckades att få ner sin egen arbetsbörda till bara fyra timmar per vecka och eftersom Ferris också såg till att hans arbetsuppgifter kunde göras oberoende av var i världen han befann sig så skapade den här boken både en livsstil för honom själv och en hel rörelse av personer som ville göra det han gjorde. Det är en spännande och inspirerande bok även om man förstås ska ta en hel del av det han skriver med en nypa salt och utvärdera det själv. Och nu är "four hour" ett helt koncept som Tim Ferriss har skapat med böcker som the four hour body och the four hour chef. Men vad jag ville komma till när jag började prata om Tim Ferriss är ju hans nya bok, tools of titans. I den så har Ferris, delvis inom ramen för sin podcast, intervjuat flera hundra högpresterare. Det kan handla om superframgångsrika affärsmän och affärskvinnor, idrottare, akademiker och det handlar också om människor som av en eller annan anledning gått sin egen väg. Lämnat ekorrhjulet och lever sitt liv mer på sina egna villkor än vad gemene man gör. Ferris pratar med dessa människor och försöker få ner det dom säger till väldigt konkreta tips och tricks och handlingsplaner. Och han gör det med allt. Kost, träning, sömn, effektivitet, vila, relationer, allt. Det här är en jättespännande bok och jag är inte klar med den ännu själv. Alla personer som medverkar i boken har sin egen filosofi för vad det innebär att leva ett bra liv. de lägger tyngdpunkten på olika saker och löser vardagsbekymmer på olika sätt. Det finns dock två teman som återkommer gång på gång och Ferris har själv pratat om det här i intervjuer han har gjort om boken. Det första är att de allra flesta, om inte alla, har ett system för hur de vill att deras liv ska vara. Hur omfattande det här systemet är varierar, hur det ser ut varierar men nästan alla har tagit det de lärt sig om sig själva, bara genom att leva livet, funderat på vad som funkar och vad som inte funkar, och försökt att använda det till sin fördel. Jag jobbar bäst på morgonen, alltså ser jag till att göra mina viktigaste saker på morgonen. Jag mår bäst om jag tränar innan jag börjar jobba, alltså ser jag till att hitta tid för träning innan jobbet. Jag får mest gjort om jag skriver min att-göra lista kvällen före alltså gör jag det. Jag blir trött och dåsig om jag äter en viss maträtt. Och trots att jag älskar den här maträtten och trots att den serveras i lunchmatsalen så äter jag den inte om jag behöver vara pigg och alert på eftermiddagen. Det har jag bestämt. Det är mitt system. Och så vidare, och så vidare. Det finns tusentals sådana här insikter i boken, och de spretar åt många olika håll, men de som lever ett väldigt tillfredsställande liv har alltså i regel tagit reda på de här sakerna, vad som funkar för dem och vad som inte funkar för dem och så skapar de rutiner för detta. Anstränger sig för att göra det som de vet fungerar. Det andra som är gemensamt för väldigt många i boken, nästan alla,  är att de har någon typ av återkommande mental rutin. Att de varje dag ser till att sinnet får återhämtning och tid att bara vara. Och nu menar jag inte att de kopplar av genom att kolla några timmar på tv eller surfa på nätet eller spela candycrush. Utan de stillar sinnet, oftast genom meditation men det finns gott om alternativ som nämns. Tim Ferriss intryck, och jag håller verkligen med, det är att de som presterar på en hög nivå och samtidigt lever bra liv. alltså inte liv där de jobbar ihjäl sig, försakar sådant som är viktigt för dem eller går under av all yttre press Dom här personerna tar sig i mycket högre utsträckning än vad som är normalt hos oss andra, tid för det här. Mental återhämtning. Att stärka sinnet. På något sätt. Och att göra det regelbundet. Att inte bara börja med mindfulness när du redan har gått in i väggen och sedan sluta när du mår bättre igen och kan börja jobba utan att göra det här till en vana som du gör varje dag. För dig själv. Och det finns ju många olika metoder. Meditation av olika slag. Mindfulness är vanligt. Det är både effektiv och lättillgängligt. Och jag lär ju ut avslappning som jag tycker till viss del påminner mycket om meditation i den mening att du tar kontroll över ditt fokus därmed leds in i trance. men även om jag gillar just mental träning och tycker att det finns många fördelar med att använda sig av den metoden så vill jag uppmana dig, och här kommer då den allra första konkreta uppgiften till dig som vill hänga med i den här nystarten, att hitta en metod som passar dig, att avsätta tid för att införa den, och att redan den här veckan sätta igång. Vad du väljer just nu är inte viktigt, du kommer med största sannolikhet ändå att vilja testa olika saker under resans gång. Tänk på det jag sa i förra avsnittet, att du kan tänka som så att saker och ting ska vara på plats 2018, att du har det här året på dig att testa olika saker och sätta rutinerna. så det behöver inte vara perfekt, det behöver inte gå perfekt, men om du inte börjar så kommer du inte igång. Så välj någonting. I anteckningarna till det här avsnittet så länkar jag till några alternativ bland annat mina egna, självklart, och det finns ett oändligt antal alternativ ute på nätet som du kan testa. Avsätt tid för det här. Mellan 15-30 minuter varje dag är mitt förslag men lägg fokus just nu på att sätta igång. Om du påbörjar och gör säg två minuter, och sedan inte orkar mer eller om det kryper i kroppen, så kan du räkna det som att du har gjort det du ska den dagen. Men hoppa inte över bara för att du inte känner för det. Gör då bara dina två minuter och sluta sedan. På sikt är det mycket bättre att du har gjort bara några minuter per dag och klarat det 45 dagar av 50 än att du mediterat eller tränat mentalt sju dagar av femtio men att du då har gjort det under 25 minuter. I det första fallet håller du på att skapa en vana du med tiden kan bygga vidare på, i det andra fallet kommer vanan aldrig skapas utan du kommer under lång tid framöver behöva förlita dig på att du känner för det eller för att du ska ha tid eller för att inte någon av säkert ett tiotal olika ursäkter inte ska förhindra dig. Så ta tag i det här nu. Eller snart. Välj vad du vill göra. Och börja. Om det känns bättre så kan du ju börja den första i månaden eller på en måndag eller något sådant men bestäm att du ska börja, när du ska börja och vad du ska göra.
