What does growth mean to you? How do we grow? Listen in as we dive into this BIG subject. Insights and practical guidance aplenty.Cynthia K. Jensen is a Certified Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin.  Cindy graduated Cum Laude from Milton College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  From 1990 to 2009 she was employed by another Wisconsin child placing agency.  During that time Cindy placed more than 550 children with adoptive families.  Cindy keeps current on adoption practice by obtaining an additional 30 hours (or more) of continuing education every two years as required to maintain state certification.  In addition, over the past 28 years Cindy formed strong professional relationships throughout the adoption community as well as with numerous other referral resources.  She has excellent working relationships with the various professionals involved in the adoption process in Wisconsin as well as several other states. Cindy served on a legislative task force to create legislation for a birth father registry in the State of Wisconsin.  She also spoke at the national convention for the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and has been a presenter regarding the adoption process in many different forums. Cindy is also a past member of the National Association of Social Workers.https://www.facebook.com/cynthia.jensenhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cindy-jensen-a2b55555/Adoption Avenues, Inc. strives to provide environments of love and stability for children in need. Education and support is offered for everyone in the adoption process, from the person giving up parental rights to the new loving family. We are a Wisconsin licensed child placing agency offering a full range of adoption services. Our social workers have years of experience. Adoption can be difficult and confusing. We are here to help navigate the process for birth parents who are placing a child for adoption and for adoptive parents trying to choose the best avenue for building a family. The services we offer include birth parent counseling for women experiencing unplanned or crisis pregnancies, home studies for all types of adoption, step-parent screenings, pre-adoptive preparation, foster home licensing and post-placement supervision services. Wisconsin is an "agency" state, thus a private adoption agency must be involved in every adoption.https://www.adoptionave.com/https://www.facebook.com/adoptionave/https://www.instagram.com/adoption_avenues/?hl=en-gb Guests and the host are not (unless mentioned) licensed pscyho-therapists and speak from their own opinion only. Welcome to the Rock Your World Naturally Show! We are rocking your world with all things natural. It's the place where healthy women rock! In honor of Veteran's Day, Rekishia L. McMillan, aka, "The Total Health Coach" interviews Amy Walton, whose late father was a Prisoner of War in WW II and survived the infamous Bataan Death March. The day after Japan bombed the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Dec 7, 1941, the Japanese invasion of the Philippines began. Within a month, the Japanese captured Manila, the capital of the Philippines and American and Filipino defenders of Luzon were forced to retreat to the Baatan Peninsula. Between 60,000 to 80,000 American and Filipino Prisoners of War were forced to march 65 miles. Many men died during the journey as a result of being severely beaten, receiving little to no food and water and were stabbed with batons. The conditions were disease-ridden and beyond horrific. Under the leadership of General Douglas McArthur, who in 1942 had famously promised to return to the Philippines, made good on his word. In Feb 1945, US Filipino forces recaptured the Bataan Peninsula and Manila, resulting in liberation. The Japanese commander and two of his officers were tried by the US military and were found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to death. Amy shares that her father testified as a witness during the trials. Amy provides an intimate look into her father's life and believes that the fact that he survived was a miracle, as he lived to be 91 years of age. She shares the lessons that she learned in life from her father to include resilience and the power of forgiveness. Not only did Amy's father influence her, but he made a lasting impact on her sons as well, one of which followed in his grandfather's footsteps and serves as on officer on Active Duty with the US Army. Amy shares her experience as a proud Military Mother and how her faith provided the hope and strength that she and her family needed during her sons one-year deployment to Iraq. In this exclusive interview, Rekishia L. McMillan, aka, "The Total Health Coach" interview Amy Walton. Amy grew up in a town of 2,500 in NC. Her late father was a prisoner of war in WW II and survived the infamous Bataan Death March. Nearly every family in her little town was a blue collar family, and hers was no different. Her parents provided a supportive environment where they were very involved in church and community. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was the first graduate of the School of Education to be chosen as one of the university's 20 Outstanding Seniors. She met her husband in college, they married a few years later. They brought two wonderful boys into this world, but sadly, her husband and his father were killed at sea in 1993, leaving her to raise my little boys by herself. Her husband's body was never found. This happened 4.5 years after he was hit head on by a loaded dump truck on a Georgia highway, costing him his right leg and a year of recovery. Amy describes those as very challenging times. Amy has devoted her life to serving her family and to serve through her work and community involvement. Her careers have included public school and junior college teaching, working for a major daily newspaper, and serving as a nonprofit development director. She has held president's and chair positions for organizations and boards, has been published hundreds of times, and speaks regularly. These days, she is involved in business and ministry through coaching, writing, teaching yoga, and speaking to groups. Her greatest joys in life are serving God and her family, which includes my two adult sons and three granddaughters, who reside in Hawaii. Amy has also published stories in the bestselling "Cup of Comfort" series, written cover stories for magazines, and has been an op-ed columnist for a daily newspaper. Just as women are facing health issues now, women also faced health issues all throughout the bible. There was a woman with an issue of blood as recorded in the Bible. It records that she was diseased with an issue of for blood twelve years (Matthew 9:20). Jesus the compassionate healer, transformed this woman's entire life with one touch. Healing can come in many different ways. God can work a miracle, He can use those in the medical profession and He can also use elements from the earth that contain His life-giving and healing power. Fibroids are growths that affect the breasts or uterus in women. Excessive estrogen or an under active thyroid are the main causes of fibroids in women. It's time to think about what you are eating. We put ourselves at a great disadvantage when we wastefully spend our financial resources on food products that contribute to sickness, yet day in and day out, our culture consumes staggering amounts of unhealthy toxic food which impacts our physical, mental and spiritual health. We are simply not taking the time to think about what we are eating on a spiritual level. Rather than embracing a whole food lifestyle as prescribed in the Bible, as noted in Genesis 9:3, we are consuming dangerous food substances that were never meant to be eaten. In this show you'll discover what foods contribute to our mental health and what foods to avoid. Welcome to the Rock Your World Naturally Show! In our minds prayers might seem delayed when they are not answered immediately, but God is always on time. We worry so much about our timing that we forget about God's timing. God is not like man. What we think to be long is a short time for God. 2 Peter 3:8 “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” Be encouraged by this message and know that even in the silence, God is working on your behalf. Wisconsin is an "agency" state, thus a private adoption agency must be involved in every adoption.https://www.adoptionave.com/https://www.facebook.com/adoptionave/https://www.instagram.com/adoption_avenues/?hl=en-gb

The Other Side of Hell Podcast

Way back in the infancy of the podcast we had our friend Jake join us to talk about trauma. Not only is Jake a Certified Social Worker but he has his own recovery story and has had to deal with his fair share of trauma. Who better to have as our first guest? Well, as luck would have it, we ran into a couple of severe technical issues (growing pains as some would say.) Unfortunately, the episode was not salvageable and we've been trying to get him back on ever since! So, just as we do with trauma, we as a podcast continued to grow, and adapt. We accepted that we had some struggles early on and decided to learn from them. And now, Jake is back to have some serious talk about trauma and the world that we're currently living in. It would seem there's one constant in almost every WarStory we hear. Trauma. Whether you struggle with addiction, neurosis, or just plain low self-esteem, it's fair to say it likely stems from some sort of trauma. So how do we become more than victims? Can we truly use trauma as fuel for change? Can we find solidarity in overcoming struggle and trauma? This one is an episode for the books! We also have a GREAT WarStory today. Eve Lipchik about the beginning of Solution Focus. In today’s episode, we talk with Eve Lipchik, Co-Founder of the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee and the Solution Focused approach, Author, Certified Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist, about what fascinated her with Solution Focus at the beginning, how Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer met in Palo Alto, how they started the BFTC – the Brief Family Therapy Center – in Milwaukee, how they looked at the recordings of the sessions, tried out new things, and learned from their clients. She mentions how Steve de Shazer conceptualized what they were doing, what and who helped to promote Solution Focus, and how they learned and moved from the ecosystemic approach to Solution Focus. Check out how the question what clients don’t want to change led them to Solution Focused thinking, how they analyzed the conversations with the questions „What worked?“ and „What didn’t work?”, how scaling and the miracle question emerged out of their work and were refined. Learn more about the different backgrounds and styles of the founding members of BFTC and how she perceives the newer developments of Solution Focus. She mentions the importance of working with a philosophy to get beyond technique and the importance of constant learning and immersion in Solution Focus. Check out how she values emotions in Solution Focused conversation and her message to Solution Focused practitioners: Don’t mix Solution Focus with other things, commit to one method. And she also gave us a challenge of the week: Think about what it is you need to overcome to feel that you are more confident and adapted doing Solution Focus. Merry Christmas! In this episode, eating disorder experts, Nathalia, a Registered Dietitian, and Lisa, a Certified Social Worker, join us again to talk about all things digestion, and, well… poop! We talk about the myth that your body can only absorb “so much” protein, about whether or not kombucha and other fermented foods are really necessary, and what you can tell about your body by taking a peek before you flush every once in a while. We also talk about whether CrossFit is a healthy choice for people who are actively recovering from an eating disorder. We really didn’t plan to release an episode about poop on Christmas, but that’s just the way the cards fell, and we’re not sorry. And I mean really, would you expect anything less?
