Guided Meditation: Advent by Holy Yoga
Of all the podcasts I have recorded, NONE has received as much feedback as this topic. It's alarming that most Christians who religiously practice yoga will defend their practice with more fervency and passion than their relationship with Jesus Christ. Christians! Is it any wonder that we are struggling so much when we refuse to rid ourselves of the very things that God warns us against? Listen in as I discuss this topic and more at today's podcast. What is Biblical Meditation? Here's the podcast to answer that for you…- Lectio Divina is a very old, ancient practice meaning divine reading.- Jen is going to read Scripture 3 different times & let you mediate on what that means for you & give you space to commune with your creator. Carve 10 minutes out of your day to sit still with the Lord.
This episode is a gift for all who have asked for a “sample” meditation to relax the mind and body. Amy Denney, certified Holy Yoga instructor, returns as my guest. (You may remember Amy from Episode 5, where she led us in deep breathing exercises.) Amy shares her insight about “yoga nidra,” which is typically done lying down. This practice is not intended to put you to sleep, but to offer deep relaxation. The benefits of this practice are numerous and outlined in a wonderful article linked below. They include relief from stress, back pain, PTSD, rheumatoid arthritis, insomnia and tinnitus. Have patience with this one. There are periodic pauses as you breathe and concentrate on Amy's prompts. The intention of this practice is peace, and who doesn't need more of that these days? Enjoy! Resources: Amy Denney is a light therapy and stress specialist, certified in Holy Yoga and trauma-sensitive Holy Yoga. She offers yoga nidra at the end of her Holy Yoga classes, which are currently taught at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays at Truth in Love Counseling & Care, in Springfield, IL. Amy also offers a 12-week nervous system reset that involves yoga and light therapy in a one-on-one setting. She can be reached at 217-801-7464 or amy@shinelighttherapy.com. Helpful information about yoga nidra, included an extended yoga nidra exercise, recorded by seasoned yoga instructor, Michele D'Agostino, https://draxe.com/fitness/yoga-nidra/ The scripture for today's Holy Yoga practice is Philippines 4:6-7, https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A6-7&version=NLT Let's Connect! In this exclusive interview, Rekishia L. McMillan, aka, "The Total Health Coach" interview Amy Walton. Amy grew up in a town of 2,500 in NC. Her late father was a prisoner of war in WW II and survived the infamous Bataan Death March. Nearly every family in her little town was a blue collar family, and hers was no different. Her parents provided a supportive environment where they were very involved in church and community. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was the first graduate of the School of Education to be chosen as one of the university's 20 Outstanding Seniors. She met her husband in college, they married a few years later. They brought two wonderful boys into this world, but sadly, her husband and his father were killed at sea in 1993, leaving her to raise my little boys by herself. Her husband's body was never found. This happened 4.5 years after he was hit head on by a loaded dump truck on a Georgia highway, costing him his right leg and a year of recovery. Amy describes those as very challenging times. Amy has devoted her life to serving her family and to serve through her work and community involvement. Her careers have included public school and junior college teaching, working for a major daily newspaper, and serving as a nonprofit development director. She has held president's and chair positions for organizations and boards, has been published hundreds of times, and speaks regularly. These days, she is involved in business and ministry through coaching, writing, teaching yoga, and speaking to groups. Her greatest joys in life are serving God and her family, which includes my two adult sons and three granddaughters, who reside in Hawaii. Amy has also published stories in the bestselling "Cup of Comfort" series, written cover stories for magazines, and has been an op-ed columnist for a daily newspaper. Did you know there's yoga specifically for Christians? Yep, it exists because Evangelicals are nervous about the "bad juju" of traditional yoga. But it turns out even "holy" yoga may be too much for the church, at least when it's a woman's idea. This is a story of trauma and betrayal, of pulling your family out of the ashes, and trying to find healing. With a little bit of yoga on the side.

Nor do I really know myself; and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”Amen.

In the last several episodes, I've talked about the stress inherent in family caregiving. This episode really focuses on relieving that stress using simple breathing techniques to calm the mind and body. Amy Denney, a light therapy stress specialist with certifications in Holy Yoga and trauma-sensitive Holy Yoga, is my guest. She shares her perspective on the value in meditation and deep breathing and guides us through several breathing exercises that can be used just about anywhere to relieve stress, support sleep, lower blood pressure, and aid in digestion. Resources: Amy Denney is a light therapy and stress specialist, certified in Holy Yoga and trauma-sensitive Holy Yoga. You can email her at amy@shinelighttherapy.com. Most recently she is collaborating with Based on Purpose to offer Moving Purpose Affirmations, short audio recordings combining yoga, breathing and scripture-based affirmations. You can find her meditation offerings here: https://www.shinelighttherapy.com/meditations My favorite Bible verse about being still, Psalm 46:10 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2046%3A10&version=NIV Takeaways: Most of us are shallow breathers who would benefit from deep breathing, as it positively affects the brain and almost every major organ, the heart, lungs and digestive system. Deep breathing can be used to re-energize or calm the body. Even one belly breath can be beneficial. Belly breathing can be practiced almost anywhere (in the car, working at the computer, in the doctor's office, etc.) and uses the diaphragm to more fully inflate and deflate the lungs. The ratio breath includes inhaling through the nose to a count of 4, holding the breath for count of 7, and exhaling through the nose or mouth for a count of 8. The box breath is a simple breath technique that may be helpful for children or visual learners. Breathing can be done as you trace the sides of a box drawn on paper or in the air, inhaling for 4 counts, holding for 4 counts, exhaling for 4 counts and holding for 4 counts. The more you practice this breathing, the more helpful it becomes, day or night. Let's Connect! Like prayer, yoga has been used in the Hindu religion and in other religious traditions to inspire peace, awaken mindfulness, and draw people closer to the divine presence that surrounds. While many people associate yoga with Hinduism alone, Christian yoga instructor Allison LaBianca says yoga predates Hinduism and can be used by people of every faith to draw nearer to God. Through her work with Holy Yoga, Allison has learned how the practice of yoga can enhance prayer lives and awareness of Jesus in and around us. She discusses the history of yoga, its spiritual benefits, Christian themes in yoga, and how Christians specifically can use yoga. This episode is ideal for those who are looking to enhance their prayer lives through the ancient practice of yoga.

With our recent discussion on the Enneagram and whether the origin of an activity should dictate whether or not we participate in that activity, we travel back in time to revisit our discussion on yoga from a year and a half ago.Yoga is prevalent in our culture today but its Hindu roots bring controversy in the church over whether or not we as Christians should be practicing yoga. In this podcast, we explore the history of yoga and look at scripture to see whether yoga is something we as Christians should think twice about before practicing. This is part one of the two-part conversation. Check out episode 40 for the rest of the discussion.***Disclaimer: this is a group of people's experiences and thoughts. This does not represent the thoughts or beliefs of Providence Church, Citylight Church, or Holy Yoga. Yoga came before the Hindu religion by about 1000 years, it did not originate with the Hindu religion. They adopted it as a spiritual practice. The human body belongs to God, not any one religion. Other religions have incorporated the body in the worship of their deity. In Holy Yoga, we are directing our bodies in the worship of Jesus.I am not inviting demons into my body by positioning my parts into a shape with a yoga name (asana). My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I am literally entering into that place of worship. (little story of lady leaving my class when we started in child's pose for prayer)Traditional Yoga teaches one to empty your mind, Holy Yoga teaches to empty your mind of everything but Jesus so you are free to connect with Him.Do you disagree? I'm ok with that. Holy Yoga has been both permissible and beneficial for me. Maybe God has not released this freedom to you. What is Holy Yoga 100% and 100% JesusYoga, means "unity" or " to join".physical postures, breathing and meditationpostures - The body is our vehicle for navigating life. Yoga helps to stretch & strengthen muscles, increase range of motion, place beneficial pressure on organs to stimulate function.breathing - God designed truth that breath is of him, brings life. Stimulates vagus nerve, calms nervous system, transports much needed oxygen.unity with God through physically agreeing with how he created us.meditation - what really sets Holy Yoga apart from traditional yoga, taking opportunity to release the world and enter into conversation with God. Small groups are a growth edge for a lot of us. Even those committed to the church and leadership. And maybe especially for those in liturgical contexts. We may be tempted to think that Sunday morning, and maybe some volunteer work thrown in there, is all we need for spiritual flourishing. But all Christians need community, and whether small groups particularly work for us or not, we have to seek out and stick with others who walk with us along the path, turning the wedding feast of Sunday into the marriage of the everyday habits and transformations that are the Christian life. Small groups are a time-tested way of building that community, and they're seeing something of a revival in recent days. They're also incredibly adaptable to different churches and cultures. "Hey, the 90s called and they want their small groups back." That's not the way it needs to be. Today we're going to talk to two people who have successfully implemented small group ministries in their very different church contexts and hear how small group ministry can be done, what it contributes particularly to Anglican and Episcopal contexts, how small groups relate to church growth, how to avoid cliques in small parishes and disconnection in large ones, and other expert advice on leading and implementing this model of discipleship in your parish. Our guests today are Brooke Holt and the Rev. Canon Robert Sihubwa. Brooke is a lay leader at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston Texas, and executive director of Bible Study Media, a small group curriculum company. Her passion is teaching God's Word and equipping believers to build the Kingdom. She also ministers through healing prayer and Holy Yoga. She has seen small groups transform community in her parish, even during the pandemic. Fr. Robert is rector of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Lusaka, Zambia. He also serves as the Anglican Province of Central Africa's youth and children ministry leader. He is a preacher, evangelist, and Christian educator, and hosts a radio show on Radio Christian Voice, an independent station in Lusaka. He also leads the discipleship and missions team for the Anglican Communion part of a global FB group, Jesus Shaped Life. And he has used small groups to support other discipleship efforts in his parish, growing from 200 average Sunday attendance to over 1,000 in a few years. Here are some resources Fr. For the Father up above is looking down in love, oh be careful little members what you do! Today we talk about a topic that many Believers cling to in a defensive way. This is not us "clutching our pearls" and shouting at people, this is research, experience and a warning that what we do with our bodies is a huge example to the world and the origins of a certain practice can lead down the rabbit hole to New Age practices and further. God cares about every aspect of our lives and our witness. He cares about what we do with our bodies. A special Advent meditation by Doran Richards based on Galatians 4:4-8.
Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. 6 Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. 7 Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for wisdom comes when you adore him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that’s wrong. 8 Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and spirit long for.Proverbs 3:5-8 The Passion Translation Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.Proverbs 3:5-8 NIV Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.Proverbs 3:5-8 The Message 4-5 If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. 6 In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. 7-8 Don’t be conceited, sure of your own wisdom. Instead, trust and reverence the Lord, and turn your back on evil; when you do that, then you will be given renewed health and vitality.Proverbs 3:5-8 The Living Bible Place your trust in the Eternal; rely on Him completely; never depend upon your own ideas and inventions. 6 Give Him the credit for everything you accomplish, and He will smooth out and straighten the road that lies ahead. 7 And don’t think you can decide on your own what is right and what is wrong. Respect the Eternal; turn and run from evil. 8 If you depend on Him, your body and mind will be free from the strain of a sinful life, will experience healing and health, and will be strengthened at their core.Proverbs 3:5-8 The Voice Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV Tricia is a Jesus girl, wife to Bill, a certified health coach, natural health enthusiast & educator, Holy Yoga instructor, sister, friend and mom to a cute and naughty dog named Guinness. When is the last time you focused on how you are breathing? Our breath is connected to life. Learn the importance of breath-- not just from a physiological standpoint-- but also on an emotional and spiritual level. In today's episode, Keleah Anderson is going to share with you all about breath, burnout, and going deeper with Jesus. Today’s Speaker- Keleah AndersonKeleah came to Yoga through two passions ~ cheerleading and gymnastics. The rhythm and movement of yoga was a beautiful extension of her two greatest childhood loves that had led her to a career in health & fitness. With an education background in physical therapy/anatomy and over 25 years of experience teaching and training, yoga quickly became another class she could offer her clients. It was not until her personal journey with depression found new depths of healing through her practice that yoga became something completely different. Keleah found movement that was sacred, union that was restful and postures that were powerful. She found home - a place of Being, not doing! A lifetime of cheering included a collegiate cheer career at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 1991-1994. Keleah began her yoga practice in 1999 and took her first teacher training in November of 2001. She followed that with a 200-hour training in Ashtanga in 2004. She spent 2 years in Austin, Texas studying Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Anusara Yoga extensively. In addition, in 2011 she completed Holy Yoga training. In May of 2016, Keleah opened Abundant Yoga Studio. Founded on following the Holy Spirit (goose-symbol) and circling in prayer (the circle) this unique yoga system honors God first and offers a biblically-based practice. Keleah’s passion today is to help develop and inspire yoga teachers to offer something Abundantly beyond a physical yoga practice – to facilitate worship through message and movement. After 20 years guiding students on the mat in the group setting, today Keleah sees her calling to the mission of Abundant Yoga as one of God’s greatest gifts. Keleah resides in Franklin, Tennessee with her husband of 24 years, 3 children and their dog, Rosie. When not on her yoga mat, her favorite place to be is on the lake or the beach in the sunshine with her family.Website: https://www.abundantyoga.comYou’ll LearnHow to practice breathing and decrease anxietyHow to find balance in your lifeThe importance of self-care in avoiding burnout It Starts With Attraction Ep. 019: The Importance of Breath with Keleah Anderson

Otherwise how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! In 2012, Beverly felt called to merge her background in public health education and family ministry to promote holistic wellness and was the first to bring the practice of Holy Yoga to Connecticut. Over the next three years her Holy Yoga ministry grew to several churches in CT and NY. Her dream to someday open a Christian-inspired Community Wellness Yoga studio where people could come, free of judgement or denomination labels to connect with God while getting healthy and whole became a reality in October 2015 with the opening of Holy Yoga of Connecticut, LLC in her hometown of New Fairfield, CT. The opportunity to serve all ages in her community with holistic yoga and wellness is both and honor and a blessing. A lover of many genres of music, Beverly uses contemporary Christian worship music, Alternative, Pop, Christian Rap and Reggae to facilitate a fun, Christ- honoring experience to help students connect to God. While Beverly has practiced many different styles of yoga over the years, never has her soul been touched, healed and uplifted as when practicing Holy Yoga. Holy Yoga brings Mark 12:30 to life, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength". There really is nothing like meeting Jesus on your mat! "The practice of Holy Yoga has completely transformed my relationship with God and with others". Beverly served on Holy Yoga Foundation's Leadership Team as Northeast Regional Director and currently serves as Holy Yoga Global's Teacher Trainer for Therapy, Touch, 300 hr, 200 hr and 100 hr Instructor Training & Certification programs. Host Andrew Baxley talks about yoga and if it leads to demonic possession. He talks about the origins of yoga and if Catholics and Protestants should do this exercise and the stretches that go along with it. He also debates if yoga should be “baptized” and gives three major areas in which the spiritual practice of yoga does not fall in line with Catholic spirituality. Can Christians stretch out and do the exercises? Can you enter into the mantras and chants? What exactly is Holy Yoga? Listen to this podcast to find out and to gain information on the practice of yoga.

The Amplified Bible does this through the use of explanatory alternate readings and amplifications to assist the reader in understanding what Scripture really says. Multiple English word equivalents to each key Hebrew and Greek word clarify and amplify meanings that may otherwise have been concealed by the traditional translation method. Amplified Bible - Pros and Cons The Amplified Bible can be a valuable study tool, as the different “alternate” renderings can give additional insight into the meaning of a text. The problem is the words the AMP gives alternate renderings for CAN mean those things, but do not mean ALL of those things. The fact that a word can have different meanings does not mean that every possible meaning is a valid rendering each time the word occurs. Also, it being based on the American Standard Version results in some of its wordings sounding archaic. https://www.gotquestions.org/Amplified-Bible-AMP.html Kimberly Mervyn Director of Soul Care Leading spiritual transformation, Kimberly seeks the Lord’s will for Holy Yoga instructors and Holy Yoga communities. Yoga is prevalent in our culture today but its Hindu roots bring controversy in the church over whether or not we as Christians should be practicing yoga. In this podcast, we explore the history of yoga, share our experiences with yoga, and look at scripture to see whether yoga is something we as Christians should think twice about before practicing. Jessica Mitchell is a 500 Hour Holy Yoga Instructor and owner of Living Divina Yoga and Fitness Studio. After years of doing yoga, she felt the calling to dive deeper into her practice and become a certified instructor. While yoga was something she did in response to the aches she felt from the laborious profession of being a chef, her “why” shifted after she suffered the loss of her baby midway through her pregnancy. Jessica experienced a divine healing on her mat and it became her place of refuge. As the layers of pain peeled back, she desired to hold this same sacred space for others who have also endured any deep rooted pain. Once certified, Jessica opened Living Divina in December 2016 with a mission to build community that is safe for everyBODY and hopes that people will see beyond the stigma of who they think yoga is for. She also currently volunteers weekly in Chicago serving at the Salt and Light Coalition. This non-profit serves women who have courageously come out of sex trafficking and rising up in their own healing. Jessica teaches them Holy Yoga, participates in their yoga teacher training, and (using her past chef experience) teaches them how to cook healthy meals. https://www.facebook.com/livingdivina/ https://www.instagram.com/livingdivina/

"The LORD says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught." Isaiah 29:13 Worshiping is simply our response to God's love, who He is and what He has done. Worshiping with color is an expression of one's unique personality. God created us as an original- we don't sound the same, walk the same or even like all the same things. Our worship may even look a little different. Some may sing lout with arms high and eyes closed, others may sit with their head bowed, while still others softly sing with hands layered on their heart. It's not what the exterior looks like, it's about the intention of the heart and mind. God is methodical, strategic and absolute. He is always working when our natural eyes cannot see. However, it can be hard to wait when we are excited and full of expectation for what's to come. Are you tired of waiting? Do you find the wait difficult to remain faithfully consistent in your current season? Me too! Today's episode we will dive into 1 Samuel 17 and gain wisdom from David, before he became king of Israel. There are three things David does that, I believe, propel him from being stuck in the wait. He was already anointed king of Israel, yet we find him in the pasture tending his father's sheep while King Saul's army is fighting against the Philistines. How does David rise to the challenge or the battlefield? How does David remain faithful during the wait? How did David become the right person when opportunity came knocking? Take a listen to this week's episode to find out. I am looking forward to meeting Ksenija because our souls are already connected, we just need to be in the same physical place at the same time. She provides her experience as someone who has lived in multiple places and has had a wealth of unique lived experiences. My passion for yoga came from a journey of finding healing in my own story of experiencing trauma. The first time I stepped onto my mat for a Holy Yoga class I knew something was different. As any beginner would, I experienced the uncomfortable and strange new sensations of poses I had never done before but I primarily felt a sense of freedom that had not been brought to life within me for years. Holy Yoga began to awaken me to God and to myself in a new and refreshing way. This practice brought me release, stillness and integrated my body, heart, mind and spirit into a wholeness I had never experienced before. For me, it became a way of worshiping Jesus on my mat, finding the surrendering of my heart, reconnection to lost places in my body and laying bare the spaces of my soul I did not yet understand. Each practice was unique and brought a different kind of healing than the one before. I wholeheartedly believe that using the modality of yoga and combining it with the expansion of our breath, scripture, prayer and meditation, alongside our movement, brings restoration to one's being. Coming to a class does not mean bringing your perfect self… in fact, it's quite the opposite. This is a place of bringing our brokenness, shedding our masks and finding our true selves. Simply showing up is enough. You are free to be you, while I get to be free to be me. Here we are not afraid of the cracks because it's in the cracks that light comes in and where, in return, our light shines through. Thank you for trusting me to lead you as I am led by the One who knows the needs of each one of us, thank you for your willingness to grow in this practice as I grow with you and thank you for the grace extended for me to continue to be a student right alongside you. I look forward to seeing this dream become a reality of authentic community and meeting each other right where life has us, while still holding on to the hope of experiencing life to its fullest. Ksenija was raised in central and eastern Europe until the age of 19 when she moved to America in 2002. A child to missionary parents brought her a diverse, rich and ever-changing environment - from various cultures, art, languages, festivities and beautiful countryside to war-torn communities, human trafficking, refugees and the desperately poor. This exposure cultivated compassion in her and a deeply rooted faith that God is the one who brings healing to the broken. This passion to bring a safe space for others to find their wholeness and restoration intensified as she began the journey to finding freedom in her own trauma. Now she has the joy of doing so through achieving her 500 hr Holy Yoga Masters certification, Trauma Sensitive and Touch certification and is currently in process of getting her Holy Yoga Therapy and Holy Yoga Kids certification. Amber Newberry is my guest for The Happy Hour #141. Amber embraces her calling as wounded healer and seeks to show all people that they are beautiful and beloved. Through sharing her story, Amber hopes to begin to free people that have been living in the bondage of shame in their own stories. You can find Amber at beautifulandbeloved.com where she shares not only her stories, but the ways that God has given her redemption and healing through meditation, yoga, oils, and prayer. In today's show, Amber shares her story of sexual assault and rape as a teenager, leading her to an abortion at the age of 19. She talks about hearing the gospel for the first time when she was 24 - learning that the love and forgiveness of God through Jesus was available to her. And she tells about her passion now to see men and women set free from the bondage of shame and secrecy by sharing her story first. On a lighter note, our conversation closes with talk about essential oils, the perfect concoction for allergies and Holy Yoga. My heart (and Amber's heart) for today's show is that if you have experienced sexual assault or have an abortion in your history, that God would start to bring healing to your heart through our conversation. You are not alone, and you are not beyond the reach of God's grace and mercy towards you. Also, in today's show, I announced that we are started a Happy Hour Summer Book Club! We still carry the image of God. We might be born into a sinful world and in need of repair but we still carry the image of God. The Pieta was damaged, but despite the damage, it is still The Pieta. Despite the damage to the sculpture the woman still bore the original image it was created to represent. Allow that to be your intention this morning, believing and embracing that YOU are made in the image of God. --- I teach Holy Yoga in the Denver, Colorado suburbs. Christa Black Gifford joined me as my guest for Happy Hour #106. Christa is a dynamic worldwide speaker, worship leader and bestselling songwriter. She is a popular blogger, writes for The Huffington Post, and was the keynote for Women of Faith’s Revolve Tour. Her life goal is to provide resources for those broken by the pain of life, leading them into wholeness of heart and intimacy with Jesus. She’s married to the love of her life, Lucas Gifford. They live in Nashville, with their son, Moses Grae Lionheart, a daughter in heaven, Luca Gold, and their newest addition, daughter, Birdie James. Christa and Lucas are expecting their fourth child in November. In today's show, Christa and I chat about everything she has going on - from songwriting for a movie to growing another baby to moving houses. She shares how she and her husband endured a difficult season losing a child. I interviewed Christa last month for the Influence Network where she shares more about that experience. If you are interested in hearing more about their loss, you can check that out here. But in today's conversation, she shares about the powerful moment about how the final verse of one of my favorite worship songs, One Thing Remains, became even more true in the moments after her daughter's passing. Christa also tells about a hilarious experience while touring with the Jonas Brothers, which she talks about like it's totally normal...like who doesn't tour with the Jonas Brothers? I'll let you hear it straight from her, but it involves a crazy fan and a 6th floor hotel room. That's all I am going to say. {You can listen to the showHERE. Every woman wants to feel empowered in what we do and the way we live. Too often, we limit ourselves and stifle God's power within us by looking to the world to define who we are and whether or not we are "successful." The net result is that we never fully live out our calling or purpose. Dawn's message of living an empowered life helps us to shift our thinking and the way we define ourselves so that we can be free to live the life we were fashioned to live, with passion and purpose. Dawn Rutledge is a Certified Personal Trainer, Master Holy Yoga instructor, Certified Thai Yoga Massage provider, Pilates instructor, and licensed Am I Hungry? workshop facilitator. She owned and operated Curves Ahwatukee for nearly eight years where she helped empower more than 4,000 women to strengthen their bodies, manage their weight, and improve their overall health and wellness. Dawn's life was transformed in 2005 as a student of Holy Yoga when she discovered the power of integrating her faith and yoga practice. Soon after, she became a certified Holy Yoga instructor. God slowly revealed a plan for her to offer wellness and healing through faith-based wellness programs. These programs are woven together in a tapestry only God could provide that combines Dawn's faith, fitness background, weight management experience, and passion to help others achieve wellness. Dawn serves within the Christ Centered Yoga Ministry at Mountain Park Community Church and Redemption Church. She received the 2007 Palo Verde "Business Woman of the Year" award for her charity work and dedication to community service while she owned Curves Ahwatukee. She lives in Ahwatukee with her husband and four children.
