Dr. Christopher Collins discusses the importance of authentic content creation and being true to oneself in chiropractic practice. He shares his experience of creating vlog-style videos to showcase his practice and connect with patients. Dr. Collins emphasizes the value of building relationships with patients and being genuine in interactions. He also encourages chiropractors to set up their practice in a way that aligns with their values and allows them to enjoy their work. Takeaways Authentic content creation is important in chiropractic practice. Building relationships with patients and being genuine in interactions is crucial. Chiropractors should set up their practice in a way that aligns with their values and allows them to enjoy their work. Self-awareness is key in finding one's own path in chiropractic. Being a multi-dimensional person allows individuals to meet needs outside of their professional lives. Embracing anti-fragility helps individuals navigate challenging times and maintain a balanced perspective. Regular movement and exercise are essential for maintaining physical and mental well-being. The quality of food and its impact on health should not be overlooked. Effective communication and collaboration between chiropractors and patients are crucial for promoting wellness. Chiropractors have a role in empowering patients and helping them understand their own health and well-being. Getting involved in local government can have a positive impact on the community and one's practice. Having good people in positions of power is important to defend the quality of life in a community. The state of Advo is stable and ready to go, with a solid board and a decentralized network of authority. Implementing cone beam technology in a practice can be challenging due to logistical and financial considerations. Taking the time to prioritize community involvement and staying informed about local government is crucial for chiropractors. In a staffless practice, it is important to focus on patient education and communication. Start with a low overhead and invest in the necessary equipment and workflow. Develop a structure for patient management, including initial care plans and maintenance care. Be authentic and true to yourself in your practice. Value personal connections with patients and provide personalized care. Check out Doc Collins YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@theneckdoccollins

Happy New Year! And welcome to the first episode of AMDG of 2024. Each January, to kick off a new year, we like to delve into aspects of Ignatian spirituality that might be particularly useful as we think about forming better habits and growing deeper in our relationship with God over the next 12 months. After all, Ignatian spirituality is all about discovering who God dreams we might be by better understanding the person God already knows we are—and already loves. This year is no different. We're excited to welcome Jesuit priest, Fr. Christopher Collins, to the show today. Fr. Collins is the Vice President for Mission at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. He's the author of several books, most recently “Habits of Freedom: 5 Ignatian Tools for Clearing Your Mind and Resting Daily in the Lord” from Ave Maria Press. It's this book we discuss today. An important story from Scripture that Fr. Collins returns to again and again in his book—and in our conversation—is that of the Baptism of Jesus, which we celebrate on January 8. It's an important day not only in the life of Jesus but also in our own spiritual journeys. The challenge, as Fr. Collins articulates, is to hear those words of God the Father to Jesus spoken also to us. Do we see ourselves as the beloved of God? We should! Because remembering that essential piece of our identity can make all the difference as we begin a new year. Pick up your copy of Fr. Collins' book here: https://www.avemariapress.com/products/habits-of-freedom

My guest today is American entrepreneur and politician, Christopher Collins. Chris served as the U.S. representative for New York's 27th congressional district (Buffalo NY area) from 2013 until 2019. Prior to his time in Congress, he ran for Erie County Executive in 2007 on a platform of smaller county government, lower taxes and operating efficiency and he defeated the Democrat incumbent with 63% of the vote in a county with 140,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans. Quite an accomplishment.Unlike many of our elected representatives in our 3-tier constitutional republic, Chris was a successful entrepreneur and business guy long before he ran for public office. That means he built something of value to society that employed others in our free enterprise system. After earning his BS in Mechanical Engineering and MBA, Chris started his career as a mechanical engineer at Westinghouse Electric. In 1983, Westinghouse spun off their gear division, and Chris rose to be CEO of the Nuttall Gear Corporation located in Niagara Falls, New York. In 1997, Collins sold Nuttall to Colfax Corporation.Chris moved to Florida a couple years ago and he and his wife, Mary, have three children and three grandchildren. Full disclosure: Chris' younger brother Ted and I were fraternity brothers at Syracuse University.Welcome to the Locally Grown Podcast Chris Collins.

In his incredibly chilling and honest essay, “The Dark Month”, Christopher Collins explores his faith and belief after witnessing a boy's senseless death during the war in Afghanistan. Brian O'Neil reads this essay that was first published in Creative Nonfiction. The essay is a bit longer than most of the pieces we choose, but we felt passionately that the subject matters of PTSD, mental health for veterans, and finding one's way after returning from war deserved a longer episode. We hope you will listen through and explore your own feelings around trauma and recovery.
