Storied: San Francisco
Comedian/Union Organizer Nato Green, Part 2 (S7E8)

Storied: San Francisco

In Part 2, we pick up where we left off in Part 1. Nato details the three times he's left his hometown of San Francisco.   The first was when he went to college, which was at Reed in Portland, Oregon, in the mid-Nineties. To get us there, Nato rattles off all of the ways that he was a "comedy head" before that was even a thing. At Reed, he met a guy who's dad was the manager of the Comedy Underground in Seattle. Nato's first time doing stand-up on stage was at the Comedy Underground, in fact.   As he describes it, to say that he bombed that first time would be an understatement. "It's the closest I've ever come to literally shitting my pants." Nato then does a rendition of his first joke that night. Audible growls are heard in our recording.   Nevertheless, he did a few more open-mics at that spot in Seattle. He liked it enough. But after graduating from college and moving back to The City, he dedicated his life to being a union organizer.   As a history student at Reed, he'd written a thesis about the anti-Chinese movement in San Francisco in the 1870s. Nato then explains how the series Warrior is based on this time in SF. There's bits in the story about the incredibly racist and anti-union human for which Kearny Street is sometimes attributed to. That thesis is what got Nato interested in doing labor work.   He resumed going to comedy shows, but not getting up on stage. Around the time he turned 30, he found himself laboring over the jokes he'd tell at all the weddings he'd go to. He was also asked to give talks at labor conferences, which doubled as canvasses for Nato to deliver more of his own comedy material.   All of these comedic sprinklings led him back to the stage. His first regular spot back in SF was the BrainWash (RIP) on Folsom Street. Once again, the jokes bombed, though his pants fared better this go-round. He offers up another telling of a joke from that era of his. You've been warned. As he left the BrainWash one of those nights, local comedy legend Tony Sparks asked him to come back the next week, and he did. Eventually, Nato invited his friends to come see him perform.   He'd moved back to San Francisco in 1997 to do union organizing, as we've mentioned. Two years before that, John Sweeney had been elected president of the AFL-CIO. Sweeney pushed to "organize the unorganized" and bring young people into the labor movement. Nato was part of this wave. He got a job at Noah's Bagels and organized a union there.   He went to anything he heard about that interested him. He and his then-girlfriend/now wife would attend talks and rallies together. Nato would sometimes find himself that only ally at, say, LGBTQIA union meetings. This was well before we even used words like "ally."   Nato was approached to organize workers at the Real Foods on 24th Street. Then the International Longshore and Warehouse Union was beginning to organize bike and car messengers in San Francisco. Nato worked as a car messenger, which he did for three years, and helped organize his coworkers. We go on a short sidebar about bike messenger culture in The City in the late-Nineties. It was huge.   A few moves from union to union here and there, and Nato found himself raising money and helping to open a low-wage workers' center for young and immigrant folks in the service industry. That center is still around today.   The second time Nato left San Francisco was in 2012. This flight took him to New York City, where he relocated to write for his friend W. Kamau Bell's first TV show, Totally Biased. As Nato puts it, he "got the chance to be a Jewish comedy writer living in Brooklyn for six months." Then, in 2018, he and his family moved to Havana, Cuba, for six months while his wife worked on her PhD research.   Nato says that the only time he was tempted to relocate permanently was during his time in NYC. His kids liked it there. They looked at different neighborhoods and even schools. But Nato wasn't all that happy in New York. The experience took a toll on his friendship with Kamau (they've since moved on and are tight once again). And then the show got canceled. The universe had spoken.   That center he'd helped to found back in San Francisco had passed the nation's first minimum-wage municipal law. In 2006, they helped pass paid sick days here in The City. Nato had left the organization just before that to join the California Nurses' Association (CNA). Through that org, he was part of the ultimately successful effort to keep St. Luke's hospital open.   It was after his time with the CNA, 2011 or so, that Nato returned to doing stand-up.   He recorded his first comedy album and went on his first comedy tour (with Kamau). In 2014, he returned to organized labor, joining Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 1021. He works there today, as head of collective bargaining.   We return to comedy and Nato lists off some more folks doing open-mics with him a decade or so ago who've moved on to various levels of fame and recognition—Ali Wong, Chris Garcia, Shang Wang, Kevin Camia, Moshe Kasher, and Brent Weinbach, to name a few.   Nato takes us on yet another sidebar, but it's a good one. It's all about the "Punchline Pipeline," the system by which local comics can test their chops for a while until they're ready (or not) to move on to bigger and better things.   It took Nato three years to work up to the level of paid host at The Punchline. Around 2006, to go back, he and Kamau started doing political comedy shows together. This was during the George W. Bush years, when "leftist," "liberal" comedy was big. Then Obama got elected and that type of comedy cooled off considerably. Nato started to host shows at The Make-Out Room monthly. He credits that stint as the time that he "figured it out."   Nato still does stand-up, though not with the intensity with which he performed in his Thirties. Today, he contributes regularly to The Bugle Podcast. He works with Francesca Fiorintini and her Bitchuation Room show. He's also trying to find time to write a book—a funny take on union organizing. And he's kicking around the idea of another comedy album, which would be his third.   Follow Nato on Instagram and Blue Sky. His two albums are available to stream or buy on BandCamp.   We end the podcast with Nato's thoughts on our theme this season: Keep It Local.   We recorded this episode at Nato's home on Bernal Hill in January 2025.   Photography by Nate Oliveira

Pain is really weird, scientifically speaking. It's not just a message from injured tissues to be accepted at face value, but a complex experience that can be influenced by your brain. In this week's episode, both our storytellers explore the aches, pains, and discomfort that come with life. Part 1: While Renee Joshua-Porter is in labor, she starts feeling a horrible stabbing pain in her back. Part 2: Despite being in excruciating pain, Gretchen Douma worries getting a knee replacement will ruin her blossoming acting career. Renee Joshua-Porter is a multi faceted performing artist, Counselor and Chaplain. She is the Founder of The Burning Bush Family Foundation Inc., whose mission is to provide educational and recreational programs through the arts. A first generation American born to Panamanian parents, she grew up listening to and sharing stories. Renee is grateful for meeting Tracey Segarra who first showcased her storytelling on New York stages. Renee is married with three adult children and a dog named Beau. Gretchen Douma is a stage, screen, and voice actor who has been working in theater for more years than she'll usually admit to. She has performed in Seattle, the Twin Cities, NYC, England, and, on Zoom (thank you, COVID). Also a playwright, Gretchen has several short works and two full-length plays under her belt. The most recent, Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down, is a dark comedy about the ghosts and memories that just won't leave us alone. Her most terrifying out-of-body experience was doing stand-up at Seattle's Comedy Underground. For years a huge fan of storytelling, Gretchen has only recently jumped into this world as a storyteller herself. It has been thrilling so far. She loves dark chocolate, murder mysteries, and escaping to her backyard garden in North Seattle (where she lives with her wife, Nina, and their two miniature Australian Labradoodles). Brad Williams and I met 12 years ago during a blizzard in Philadelphia, performing to very small crowds that weekend. Fast forward to 2021. We’ve worked together a ton this year to packed houses, adding extra shows in most cities. Brad’s first time on stage was an unusual one - attending a Carlos Mencia show, Mencia was doing jokes about little people - and the people sitting around Brad were afraid to laugh. Carlos called Brad up on stage, they joked about all of it, and Brad was hooked. From bombing at brutal open-mics to performing in arenas, we discuss his career here!Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A year later, he followed it up with a 2nd special called “Daddy Issues,” its airing prompted the New York Times to write “no one is doing it more hilariously than Brad Williams.”In addition to stand-up, Brad has become a dynamic on-air personality as well. His podcast “About Last Night” is a mainstay on the iTunes Charts. He is a regular on KROQ’s Kevin and Bean Show in Los Angeles as well as the Adam Carolla podcast.Brad’s show is high energy. Robin Williams called him “Prozac with a head.” Brad’s ability to make humorous observations on disability, relationships, sex, and race are winning over audiences and proving anyone can overcome their shortcomings.

No one did more for me in my first few years in comedy than Big Jay Oakerson. Jay got me started in comedy - so you can either thank or blame him. When I was 19, Jay performed at my college and I laughed my balls off. He mentioned being from Philly, so after the show I told him I was interested in trying stand-up; he told me where to go, who to talk to and … I did my very first set a week later. We talk about the night we met, his early days in comedy, driving from Philly to NYC with Kevin Hart everyday and share some cool memories of shows we did together when I was brand new. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora.Big Jay Oakerson is one of the most beloved and easily recognizable comedians in New York City. His easy charm and dirty delivery endear him to audiences every night. Jay’s comedy career spans two decades and a journey from “comic’s comic” to mainstream fame. Beginning as a standout in the Philadelphia comedy scene, Jay quickly became a favorite among other comedians after his move to New York City. He’s no stranger to the rest of America, either, regularly headlining across the country and playing festivals including Bonnaroo, Jager's Korn tour, RockStar Energy Drink's Mayhem Fest, Gathering of the Juggalos and Funny or Die’s Oddball Festival. Jay has also been featured on This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir, Comedy Underground with Dave Attell, FX’s Louie, Inside Amy Schumer, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon & Conan. Jay co-host's “The Bonfire” on Comedy Central Radio Sirius XM 95 alongside Dan Soder Monday through Thursday 6-8pm EST. He is also the co-host of two wildly popular podcasts - “The Most Offensive Podcast on Earth” Legion of Skanks with Luis J. Gomez and Dave Smith and The SDR (Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll) Show with Ralph Sutton both on The Gas Digital Network. Jay’s debut hour special "Big Jay Oakerson: Live At Webster Hall" premiered on Comedy Central in 2016 & was filmed at the legendary music venue in New York City providing the perfect heavy metal vibe for the show. Jay's comedy is raw, compelling and honest to the core, as he takes viewers on a journey of brutal truths. His second special premiered in 2018 as part of “The Degenerates” on Netflix filmed in Las Vegas. He has 3 albums on Comedy Central Records, The Crowdwork Sessions: What’s Your F@#king Deal?! Volumes 1 & 2 recorded live at The Stand & The Village Underground that capture Jay’s raunchy, off-the-cuff essence with a full hour of crowdwork. They join Jay’s first album, An American Storyteller, a one-hour onslaught of unbridled awesomeness and raunchy rock n' roll hilarity.Oakerson has hosted 2 seasons of "What's Your F@#king Deal?! Crowdwork & Off The Cuff Comedy" on Seeso. Jay asks the audience to let go of pretension and leave egos at the door as he leads a pack of comics in a completely improvised show based on interactions with the crowd. The atmosphere is loose and no-holds-barred, so you'll see a side of the performers you've never seen before. Longtime fans of Jay’s will also remember him as Neil, the sexually ambiguous owner of a NYC rock club, on IFC’s Z-Rock, and from his appearances on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Comedy Central Presents and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. He’s wowed audiences at the prestigious Just For Laughs Montreal festival an impressive four times, both on The Nasty Show and with his solo show, The American Storyteller. And he’s a fan favorite guest on Sirius XM’s Bennington (previously Ron & Fez).

Call him a dwarf, a little person or one of the funniest, most in-demand comedians working today, but never call him a midget. That’s Brad Williams. He was born with achondoproplasia, which stunts the arms and legs, but in Brad’s case grew his sense of humor. Bullied as a young child because of his dwarfism, Brad retaliated with a razor-sharp wit which at age 19, he turned into a booming career as a stand-up comedian. In this hilarious episode, Brad tells how his dad taught him to be unstoppable by embracing his difference, not ignoring it. Which is why if you can’t make a joke about yourself, then Brad won’t hang out with you. Brad reveals the hardest thing he has to do as a dwarf, how he named his daughter “Elway” – we’re not making this up -- who was also born with achondoproplasia, and the $465,000 he raised for a kid in Australia with the same disorder. Despite his so-called “shortcomings,” Brad has appeared in comedy clubs around the country, and on numerous TV shows including Legit, Dave Attell’s Comedy Underground, Sam and Cat, Live at Gotham, the Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His one-hour comedy special “Fun Size” was the highest rated comedy special on Showtime in 2015. A year later, he followed it up with a second special called “Daddy Issues,” its airing prompted the New York Times to write “no one is doing it more hilariously than Brad Williams.” His podcast “About Last Night” is a mainstay on iTunes #UnstoppablePodcasts

Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast

Greetings, friend. If this is your first time here, welcome. If you’re a repeat listener, welcome back to Succotash Shut-In, the Comedy Soundcast Stimulus Package. I’m your every-other-weekly host, Marc Hershon, trading places in the Big Chair with Tyson Saner. Did you catch his most recent show, Epi214, last week? He featured slips from three shows: "TalkyBox Podcast", "Facial Recognition Comedy", and "Subterra". You can still catch the episode, either on our homesite or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, YouTube, the @Laughable app, Google Play, iHeart Radio, and more. THIS, however, is Episode 215. I usually like to come up with some kind of linking theme for the clips I share with you. Last time we were together, in Epi213, I played four Australian-based soundcast clips with the help of Jason McNamara who host the still-on-hiatus Dhead Factor from Canberra, Australia. This time around, I have a quartet of clips from four shows that feature stand-up comedians as the hosts. Okay, maybe that’s not a stretch – there are a LOT of comics doing their own soundcasts these days, particularly in the midst of COBID-19 shutting down comedy clubs and other live venues. But that just means we can do that one-trick pony again sometime. The shows I have in the queue this time around include 2 Dumb 2 Tame with Mia Pinchoff, Lewis Black’s Rantcast, Stop Me If I’ve Heard This with Art Krug and Susan Rice, and Sunday Papers with Greg Fitzsimmons and Mike Gibbons. In addition, this episode of Succotash Shut-In is brought to you by Henderson’s Pants Air-Cooled Culottes and Trumpoetry.com. Hold your earbuds tightly to your ears – I’m about to fill those delicate, pearly shell-like headholes with steaming hot clips! CLIPS 2 Dumb 2 Tame2 Dumb 2 Tame is hosted by comedian Mia Pinchoff. From the homesite notes come this description: “Every episode Mia will attempt to answer a question - a dumb question - because ‘there are no dumb questions’ is the dumbest statement she’s ever heard. There are dumb questions but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be asked. She’ll do the asking so that you don’t have to get judged up the anus for not knowing everything or knowing all the wrong stuff at the wrong time or all the right stuff… never. She’s asked “What was it like watching Indian Matchmaking with my Indian Husband?” Our clip concerns some deep information about her ability to hold super-spicy food. RantcastFamous for his bitingly funny commentary on The Daily Show, Lewis Black Also has traveled the country to deliver the funny. Our clip comes from one of his more recent episodes in which he features a portion of his performance at the Fox Tucson Theater back in February, before this whole mess got serious. Are clip has him riffing with the crowd. Stop Me If I’ve Heard ThisOur next clip comes from a show by two comedians from the Pacific Northwest. Stop Me If I’ve Heard This features Art Krug and Susan Rice. I don’t want to say they’ve been around awhile but I knew from WAY back in the day, when I used to run The Comedy Underground in Seattle in the early 1980’s. In a recent episode they get into what reality looks like in “quarantine time”, how the concept of time is being perceived now, and our clip is from a chunk of their convo where they’re talking about how they cannot believe this is reality. Sunday Papers w/Greg and MikeWant a comic roundup on the week’s news for your ears? Listen no further that Sunday Papers comedian Greg Fitzsimmons and TV writer Mike Gibbons.  We’ve been big fans of Greg’s Fitzdog Radio soundcast for years – he’s still doing it, BTW - and Mike was often hanging out there. Now they are taking a breaking by ripping on each other to rip on the news. (Well, there’s still a lot of ripping on each other going on.) The clip we have, from a recent episode, is the two guys ripping on the motorcycle crowd that rolled into Sturgis, South Dakota, with no regard for social distancing. There you go. See? That didn’t hurt a bit. Thanks for stopping by to grab a helping or two. On your way out, if you’d hit the review bar over on Apple Podcasts, I wouldn’t mind a new 5-star review and a writeup if you enjoyed what you’ve heard here. And, until we meet again, please tell your friend and please, pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

This week, Yes But Why Podcast talks to Scottish actress and standup comic, Rachel Jackson!Rachel Jackson is an up-and-coming actress and standup comic from Scotland. She is currently touring the UK and Europe doing her new show, Slutty Little Goldfish. Rachel very recently won the Herald Scottish Culture Award: ‘One To Watch’ 2019! Starting on November 22nd, you can also see Rachel acting on television in the BBC Scotland comedy show, The State Of It.I happened upon Rachel’s comedy when I saw a clip of her on Twitter. A joke from this set at the Comedy Underground had gone viral and it had to do with my total favorite, The Rock. And she said yes to talking to me, you guys, cause here it is. In our conversation, Rachel shares the moment she felt her calling to be a performer and all the uphill battles that followed. Rachel is an actress with a positive outlook – she loves the travel that comes with standup and she loves working on films! We chat about theater snobs and cancel culture but then it gets much happier when Rachel tells me all about her crush on Skeet Ulrich from Scream. Produced at KSQD 90.7FM More than ever, America needs an “upwising.” What exactly does that mean? The Swami Beyondananda (aka Steve Bhearman) will tell us along with how heart-opening humor and politics work. As the Swami heralds: “Despite what we hear and see on the news, we have a deeply UNITED body politic in America. Whether people identify as progressive, conservative, independent or ‘other', the vast majority of Americans believe our current pay-to-play political system doesn't represent them.” In addition, the Swami will be joined by Santa Cruz's very own political comedian, Richard Stockton. Richard is a relative of the only signer of the Declaration of Independence who was captured and tortured by the British. He was also named Richard Stockton and was sent by New Jersey to vote for independence. Hear his story. Listen to Steve Bhearman and Richard Stockton for their expert and often humorous views on the state of our democracy. Interview Guests: Steve Bhearman is a writer, author, and humorist, who's spent the past 30 years writing and performing in the guise of cosmic comic Swami Beyondananda. Swami's comedy has been described both as “comedy disguised as wisdom” and “wisdom disguised as comedy.” Noted author and current Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, has called Steve/Swami “the Mark Twain of our times.” (wikipolitiki.com) Richard Stockton is a stand-up comic who has appeared on dozens of national TV shows, performed as a sketch comedy player on Live From LA on BET, headlined A List comedy clubs from coast to coast– Improv, Punchline, Comedy Underground, Comedy Works, and more. Oh, yes, it’s me, Marc Hershon. Your host and benign growth for Epi119 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. And finally we have a Succotash Chats episode for you! The last chats I had were in relation to the Los Angeles Podcast Festival about two months ago. And while I enjoy featuring comedy podcast clips as much as the next guy who hosts a show featuring comedy podcast clips, it’s enjoyable for me to sit back and chat it up with some fun and/or funny people. Our special guest this episode is actor/comedian Brian Haley, a guy I’ve known for 30 years, dating back to when I used to run the Comedy Underground club in Seattle. As you’ll hear in this interview, he quickly leapt from the standup stage to roles on television and in the movies, and he talk about his regret at not spending more time in the comedy realm. We talk about some of the roles you’d know Brian from, including the season he did on NBC’s Wings, the Coen Brothers’ The Man Who Wasn’t There, the film Always, directed by Steven Spielberg, Baby’s Day Out, which made him a huge star in India of all places, and more. But Succotash IS a podcast about other podcasts, primarily comedy-based but when there’s a comedian involved somewhere in the mix, that pretty much makes any podcast a comedy podcast, right? And Brian has a role in a new podcast being produced by GE of all people, something called The Message. I’m fascinated by it, and we talk about that show and Brian’s role in it. We’ll give a listen to a clip from The Message as well. What Else? In addition to our chat with Brian Haley, we have a double dose of our Burst O’ Durst segment with political comedian and social commentator Will Durst. We also have a Henderson’s Pants ad, we’ll take a gander into the Tweetsack, AND we have a new acapella song by our friend Abner Serd, a sweet ditty about Autumn, which we’ll play at the end of the show. I wanted to take a moment to thank those of you who have been using the Amazon banner at the top of our homesite, at http://SuccotashShow.com, to do your shopping at Amazon.com. Every time you do that, we get a little taste off the top of your purchase at no extra cost to you. And lately we’ve been getting a nice tidy direct deposit from Amazon into the Succotash coffers, which is helping to defray the costs of producing this show. The other thing that helps us out is when you take the time to rate and review Succotash on iTunes. I wanted to give a shout out to Rick from the Ice and The Face podcast and also CEO Pistol Petey for posting a couple of lovely 5-star reviews! Thank you guys very much. We’ll be back really soon with a Succotash Clips episode, with soundbites from a whole bunch of comedy podcasts. In the meantime, let your friends know about us and we’ll cheerfully thank YOU for passing the Succotash!  — Marc Hershon

Callywood Live Hope Flood is an actress and executive, known for Comedy Underground, Going to Cali, Vol. 1 (2014), The Daily Mix (2012) and Baby Boy (2001). Middle Schools Strip Searvhing? Two families are questioning the use of strip searches at a school in California. A 13-year old and a 15-year old girl were both searched for drugs at Serrano Middle School. They say a male security guard patted them down and was in the room when the girls removed their clothes and bras. “She was asked to take off her jacket, take off her shirt, take off her T-shirt, unfasten her bra and pull her bra out — literally pull her bra out from the bottom and shake her breasts,” said the girl’s mother. A quarter of a gram of marijuana was found in one of the girls’ bags. The girls’ parents say it could have been planted because the bag was unsupervised for 40-minutes. Linda Bardere, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino School District, confirmed to the San Bernardino Sun that the district is looking into the search.“We adhere to our board policy and (California Education Code) when a search is conducted. We take all parent concerns and complaints seriously, however due to student confidentiality we can’t comment further,” said Bardere in a statement.

For today's episode, I am delighted to introduce my longtime friend (and a fellow disciple of Carl Warmenhoven, our comedy guru from Episode 23). I first met Craig Gass years ago at Seattle's oldest and most important standup club, the Comedy Underground. Before he was a comic, Craig was a rock and roll roadie, traveling the country as a teenager. After deciding on a career in standup, he began honing his incredible talent for mimicry — and has become very famous for his dead-on impressions of Sam Kinison, Gene Simmons, Adam Sandler, Al Pacino, Tracy Morgan, and countless other celebrities. In addition, we discuss Craig's amazing family background, one that has had a great impact on his stage performance. You'll easily understand why he was one of Howard Stern's favorite guests, and how he's made so many memorable appearances on shows like Law & Order, Sex and the City, The King of Queens and American Dad!Enjoy!

My last trip to Seattle was memorable for two reasons: getting to see my younger brother, and this conversation with Carl Warmenhoven. Carl worked as assistant manager of Seattle's well-respected standup club, Comedy Underground. He is, without a doubt, the most beloved comedy figure in the Seattle area.We start off talking about Carl's childhood in the Netherlands and his eventual move to the States. He relates a number of his family's World War 2 stories, ranging from the absurd (German hookers living next to his parent's home) to the inspirational (Carl's mom rescuing a rabbi). One amusing anecdote explains how tobacco and Jesus "saved" his parent from hunger.Growing up in Seattle, Carl used laughter to get along with people. He learned a lot about comedy by observing the legendary Steve Allen, who was famous for the way he played with language. Carl details his history in Seattle's standup comedy scene starting in 1979, eventually working with megastars such as Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK and Chelsea Handler. There's also a quick story about his dinner with young Jerry Seinfeld, when Jerry talked about working on a new sitcom - which later became the world-famous "Seinfeld." The abovementioned comedians were incredibly kind, professional and gracious in their dealings with him.

Born into a biracial family, Collin quickly realized he had to embrace diversity or go crazy. Choosing the former (the jury's still out on the crazy part), he learned to make fun of his differences while developing a unique brand of standup. Collin's humor manages to artfully touch on areas usually considered taboo, letting him cover topics that most are afraid to tackle. His level of skill led to the honor of being selected for TEDxSaltLakeCity 2018 as the expert to speak on comedy.Since hitting his first open mic at Seattle's Comedy Underground when he was barely 17, Collin has come a long way. His unique adoption of dark comedy has allowed him to perform across North America and Europe at clubs, colleges, and even a stadium. His humor proves irresistible to audiences, earning him a position as Niantic's lead live broadcaster for 2016, as well as a nomination as one of Utah's top comedians, and various other accolades.Whether talking at the Capitol as a featured speaker at the “Walk of No Shame” against sexual assault, or on the stage at Kingsbury Hall discussing joking about trauma, Collin uses over a decade of experience as a nationally touring standup comedian to make the audience laugh, uplifting and inspiring even when talking about even some of the darkest and most controversial topics. His current nationally touring comedy show discusses his personal experiences as a sexual assault and suicide survivor in a way that made The Daily Utah Chronicle Say “All of us loved it.”. And the owner of the WIP theater in Chicago highly recommends it saying “Collin's show is one of the best dark comedy shows you'll ever see”Paul & I had a very serious discussion on depression & suicide in the comedy community.
