Episode No. 646 features curators Edouard Kopp and Shelley Langdale. With Kim Conaty, Kopp is the co-curator of "Ruth Asawa: Through Line," a survey of Asawa's lifelong drawing practice. (Kirsten Marples and Scout Hutchinson assisted Kopp and Conaty.) The exhibition, which is at Houston's Menil Collection through July 21, presents drawings, collages, watercolors, sketchbooks, paper-folds and other work. The show is accompanied by an excellent catalogue published by the Menil and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Amazon and Bookshop offer it for $36-$46. Langdale is the curator of "The Anxious Eye: German Expressionism and Its Legacy," an exhibition of German expressionist works on paper from the rich collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington. The show features a wide range of rarely exhibited (and little-known) drawings, as well as prints. It is on view through May 27.
Last year, Ronan spoke to Paul Conaty, Principal Consultant at mobile and cloud security specialist CWSI, about hybrid working, which was one of the biggest predicted trends in the tech industry in 2023. Ronan caught up with Paul, now Client Solutions Director - Security & Compliance at CWSI. Paul spoke about his background, the coffee shop security model, hybrid working, device as a service, AI and more. MORE ABOUT CWSI: CWSI are one of Europe's most experienced mobile and cloud security specialists, providing flexibility, security and productivity solutions to the private and public sectors in the UK and Europe. Their purpose is to help organisations thrive, and stay secure, in a mobile world. CWSI was founded in Ireland in 2010 by Conor Headon, Philip Harrison and Ronan Murphy. The idea for the business was sparked by the launch of the very first iPad and the realisation that few IT teams had the knowledge or skills to get the best from these devices in an enterprise environment. CWSI originally partnered with MobileIron, one of the first solutions on the market to leverage Apple's device management APIs to enable enterprise users to maximise the benefits of the smartphone while giving IT teams visibility, control and management of the device. From this simple initial idea and a single desk in the corner of the living room, the business has expanded to provide a full suite of enterprise mobility, security and productivity solutions to some of Ireland and the UK's leading organisations and supported by some of the industries most talented technologists. One of the biggest predicted trends on the tech industry horizon will be the solidification and maturation of hybrid working. What were initially ‘band-aid' hybrid working technologies now need to be solidified and made to work for the long term. Hand-in-hand with this will be data risk management, securing user identities, and extending compliance to cater for the hybrid environment. Conaty, Bill and Ram Charan. The Talent Masters: Why Smart Leaders Put People Before Numbers. New York: Crown Business, 2010. Any time two or more people work together there's a social process in which they exchange information and ideas, exercise power, and express their values through what they say and do. Coaching and feedback are constant, direct, and substantive. Dialogue is candid and ongoing throughout the year. …if you're going to have a performance culture, there's got to be a very well understood set of company values to keep people from going off the rails ethically or behaviorally. Charisma and talking well are useful leadership qualities, but they are not enough if a person cannot connect authentically with others to build consensus and teamwork. …the four major components of talent: personal traits, skill mix, relationship building, and judgment about people and business. …judgment is required to know which old rules of thumb to discard and which new ones to develop.
