Nottingham Forest are set to complete the signing of Portuguese defender David Cormo from FC Porto! The deal is reportedly worth €11 million, with an additional €4 million in potential add-ons. David Cormo is a name that's been buzzing around in European football circles for a number of years, and now he's a Red! Known for his solid defensive abilities, impressive ball-playing skills, and aerial dominance, Cormo had previously been linked to likes of Manchester United and Arsenal. The Plan for Cormo: While we're all eager to see Cormo in a Forest shirt, it seems like he will be heading straight out on loan to our sister club, Olympiakos, for the upcoming season. This move is all about giving him regular first-team action, ensuring he's ready to make a huge impact when he returns to the City Ground, and potentially a replacement for Murillo should he leave in the next 12 months. We also have a round-up of the 1-0 victory at The St. Mary's stadium against Premier League new boys Southampton. A goal from Morgan Gibbs-White was enough to seal all three points and push Forest up to 5th in the table after the first two matches. What was your biggest positive from the Southampton victory? We also have a kind of an update about Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, so don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to Forest Fan TV. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

I learned a lot on this project:  Great Wall to Wall Carpet Removal Project Kelly's Projects I'm continuing the pair of socks for myself using the yarn from Purl 2 Walla Walla called Epicurean Kitchen. I'm on the foot of the second sock. I have a skein of Gay Pride Flag from Weird Sisters Wool Emporium waiting to be cast on for my next pair of socks (for a gift). I finished spinning the Cormo x Merino x Wensleydale fleece. I have about 1500 yards of a 3-ply that is about fingering weight. The staple length gives the yarn a nice sheen but it is soft enough that most people could probably wear it in a pullover. This is a Black Sheep Gathering fleece from 2016. I still have another box of this for another project. I'm now spinning the Corriedale x Targhee x Merino fleece where I dyed the wool and then carded. The batts are a nice heathered blue/purple and I'm spinning woolen. I have 9 ounces of the purple carded batts to spin. This is a Black Sheep Gathering fleece from 2017. I still have about 2 lbs of this fleece left and I was losing about 10% in the carding process on this fleece.  I am also working on processing a Corriedale x Border Leicester from 2016. This fleece has nice long locks so I am doing the same as with the black fleece. I am flicking the locks before I feed them into the drum carder, trying to keep the fibers as aligned as possible (as is done in combing). With this fleece I'm pulling the batts off the carder through a diz and making nests of pseudo-combed top. This process has resulted in about 20% loss.  I think I'd like to finish processing the whole bag (about 36 ounces). I've processed about 8 ounces in the first batch and ended up with 6.25 ounces of nests.  I will probably use this for rug yarn.  Pop Up Giveaway:  Valley Oak Wool Mill: California Red Roving 8oz Targee/Alpaca Roving 8oz  Debouillet Roving 2 oz Shetland Roving 4 oz Events Summer Spin In: Memorial Day - Labor Day, May 29 - September 4 Monterey Wool Show Fleece Judging–August 12 at Monterey County Fairgrounds SF Pen Show August 25-27 in Millbrae  Monterey County Wool Auction–September 4 at Monterey County Fairgrounds Lambtown October 7-8 in Dixon

Located in a small town in New England, Wing & A Prayer Farm began as an idea sparked during a trip to England in 2000. Inspired by the many sheep farms dotting the countryside, Tammy and her children decided to start their own sheep farm with a few Shetland rescues. It is now a flourishing farm with a variety of animals and avenues of business.  It is home to Clun Forest, Poll Dorset, Colored Merino, Cotswold, Wensleydale, Teeswater, and Cormo sheep. It is also home to Vermont's first Valais Blacknose Sheep. Currently, the farm sells fiber for yarn, which is derived from registered Shetland, Cormo, Cotswold, and Merino sheep, registered Angora goats, and alpacas. Along with the fiber, Wing & A Prayer sells fresh eggs, chickens, turkeys, honey, homemade soap and homemade pies! It must be noted, Farmer Tam is more than a fiber farmer. She also has a passion for the making arts--creating unique wood products, naturally hand dyed fiber products and home baked goods on her farm. This podcast is for the week of Sept 5th, and talks about prepping cormo fiber for the dyepot, and spinning a merino silk bamboo blend. I also refer to two past podcasts so here are the links: Episode 38 talks about buying a fleece.  Episode 39 talks about buying non wool fibers and how to store all fibers.  Also the ghost story that I wrote is at the end of this episode. The fiber I was spinning was from Wooliebullie.  Right now the Etsy store is only selling art batts, and hand knitted items.

The podcasts will have a new format starting with this one.  The good news is they will be more frequent, and the maybe or maybe not bad news is they will be shorter. For years I have been using this podcast to teach many things about the spinning of yarn.  Those are available on the website by checking under archives.  There is even listings of the episode topics to find specific podcasts.  With the future podcasts, I will be sharing  my experiences and stories of working with fiber everyday.  These will be dated with the episode number but not about specific topics. I am still streaming three days a week on Twitch.tv   on Wednesday, Friday and Sundays.  I just completed streaming all 21 days of the Tour de Fleece and these can be found on my Twitch page under Yarnspinnerstales.  There is a lot of spinning there, and it is a good way to catch up on what I have been doing lately. Thank you for all the years you have joined me on this Journey! And as always, happy spinning.

Alison McNulty is a multidisciplinary artist whose work engages the fragile, entangled nature of our relationship to the material world through a practice rooted in spatial and material poetics. She excavates and examines ubiquitous traces to speculate on the constructs underlying how we make meaning, assign value, and participate in social and ecological systems. McNulty often works with ordinary, but ontologically specific, reclaimed materials like brick, dust, hair, spider webs, architectural remnants, bits of eraser, plants, and rocks. Through a processing of matter that allows materials to interpret each other and their contexts, McNulty seeks to access the ambiguity and agency of things, knowledge, environments, relationships, and bodies as a way to shift consciousness towards ways we might know ourselves and surroundings as vulnerable, reciprocal, and more than human. McNulty’s projects emerge from an interdisciplinary research perspective and are informed by the natural sciences, ecology, archeology, poetics, theory, and philosophy. Animated by a deep sense of embodied attentiveness and curiosity toward the contexts she works within, she cultivates a collaborative attitude toward the human and non-human bodies and forces, entangled web of relations, and natural processes her work intersects through place and site. The ephemeral and contingent nature of her work is meant to exhibit an interrelated and evolving fragility, and to reveal and explore the ways we participate in larger material cycles and configurations through human and geological time. McNulty’s work includes ephemeral and interactive sculpture, architectural interventions, installation, site-responsive indoor and outdoor projects, video, photography, writing, and works on paper using salvaged and organic materials, which she calls “Embodied Drawings”. McNulty presents her work in a range of contexts, including university and commercial galleries and museums, alternative venues, unique private commissions, and mixed-use or unsanctioned sites.  She has participated in residencies at Stoneleaf Retreat, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and created House Project, a self-made residency in an abandoned house, formalized with its owner.  She has had solo exhibitions at BAU Gallery, Beacon, NY and George’s Meet & Produce, Gainesville, FL.  Selected group exhibitions include venues such as Art Lot in Brooklyn, The Samuel Dorsky Museum at SUNY New Paltz, NY, Theoretical Archeology Group Conference, Syracuse, NY, Dusklit Interactive Art Festival, Sugar Loaf, NY, Wilderstein 5th Outdoor Sculpture Biennial, Rhinebeck, NY, Manifest Gallery, Cincinnati, OH, Collaborative Concepts Farm Project, Garrison, NY, Simultan Festival, Timisoara Romania, Des Lee Gallery St. Louis, and The Florida State Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee, FL, among others. She is currently producing work for Ineligible, a project associated with the initiative Art/Archeologies, as well as Whiterock Center for Sculptural Arts Summer Invitational, Holmes, NY, and Highbrook Studios Sculpture Garden, Pelham, NY. McNulty teaches at Parsons School of Design at The New School and the French-American School of New York.  She has also taught at Whitman College, the University of Florida, and Brooklyn College. McNulty earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, and received an Alumni Fellowship from the University of Florida, where she completed her MFA. McNulty is currently based in the Hudson Valley, NY. The books mentioned in the interview are; Timothy Morton, Humankind: Solidarity with Nonhuman People and Maria Puig de la Bellacasa, Matters of Care: Speculative Ethics in More Than Human Worlds.  untitled (Hudson Valley Ghost Column 1) Dry-stacked historic Hudson Valley-made Lahey bricks and unprocessed Cormo sheep wool from a historic Hudson Valley fiber farm. Project Updates Marsha finished her cardigan Cloud Cover by Heidi Kirrmaier and loves it. Marsha double checked the label on her fleece and it is Wensleydale x Cormo x Merino fleece. After our last episode Marsha ordered another skein of worsted yarn from Thirteen Mile Lamb and Wool to have extra for dyeing for the colorwork pullover, Snowflower by Heidi Kirrmaier. She is still in the planning stage for dyeing the yarn. Plus she wants to take a colorwork class. Marsha is almost done with Slack Tide Scarf by Poststitch that she is making for her brother and she cast on a scarf for herself called Shared Rib by Anne Hanson using Old Maiden Aunt Yarns fingering weight that she bought last March at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. She also cast on a pullover Mountain High by Heidi Kirrmaier (again!) using The Croft Shetland Tweed by West Yorkshire Spinners that she bought at the The Yarn Cake in Glasgow. Kelly finished the  Mystery Knit Along with Cozy Up Knits using the Two Ewes Replenish Rambouillet.  It will be one of her Stitches garments if it gets blocked in time. Kelly has started the Koru by Aroha Knits. She’s using Dance Rustic Silk from Dragonfly Fibers. Episode:41 Production scheduling I’m semi freshly back from camp KIP. I have so much to talk about regarding camp that I think it’s going to be an entire podcast. SO instead of launching into that now I’ll use this week to get caught up on what I’ve been doing and will recap Camp in depth next episode. I will say this. Camp Kip was absolutely awesome. I had an amazing time and I will be stalking Jackie so that I can do it again. If she woub Production What’s in My Teapotbb Materials Sourcing Shipping After 5 Production Drop stitch Scarf by Lisa Buccellato found in the spring and summer 2012 issue of vogue knitting. Knitting this our of Cascade Ultra Pima. I think Last week I called this Pima Silk. I shocked my self when I wound the second skein and saw that it’s 100% Pima cotton. No silk… I finally have this chart for the most part memorized. Which maded me feel brave enough to pack this as my knitting for CAMP Kip. That lasted about ½ a chart repeat. No sooner did I settler into a chair to knit the conversation started and it was really good conversation so I lost my spot in the pattern. Then we decided it was too cold where we were and moved off in search of sun… again I lost my place in the pattern. At that point I put the scarf down. This wasn’t going to work. Now that I’m home I’ve picked it back up again I have about 3 feet of the six foot length done. I just wound the second ball of yarn. I’m getting antsy I _Really_ want to drop those stitches! What’s In My TeaPot Metropolitan Teas Ice Wine Tea I got this at Warm Glow Candles off of I 70 in Indiana. Not only did they have tons of yummy candkles, they had the best beef brisket I've had in a while and I found tea! A sweet offering from the originator of Icewine Tea In recent years Canadian made Icewine has begun winning awards at prestigious wine shows the world over. To make the sweet flavorful treat, Vidal or Riesling grapes are plucked from frozen vines in temperatures below 17°F or -8°C. Brrr! Our fabulous Icewine tea blends real I cewine with premium high grown Ceylon black tea and100% natural flavors. Just like the real thing, our tea has started winning accolades from customers the world over! A touch alcholic but more floral than anything. Not as boozy as the rum tea. Sweet on its own and very yummy. I drank a pot on my own before bed. (And then paced the floor all night the black tea base packs a caffeine punch.) Shipping The Cotton Candy Merino is off the bobbins and came in at 342 yds of a fingering-ish yarn. I was immediately in love with this yarn so I finished and balled it to head to camp with me. The intent was to cast on the Wingspan by Maylin Tri’Coterie Designs after I realized how distracted I was going to be at camp this was just the ticket. Short rows with stitch marker telling me where to turn and all in garter! Just what the doctor ordered! I loved this pattern and I love the way my handspun looks knit up. But as with my last project knit with handspun I didn’t have quite the yardage I would have preferred to have had. My wingspan has 7 triangles and I had to unravel my swatched to finish and bind off. It does fit me but I think I would have preferred to add on a few more sections. I toyed with gifting it to my one of my more petite friends but the handspun is just too yummy.  I will make another one. I keep looking at the ravelry page for this pattern and those projects done in swing knitting are calling my name… and I have some new stash to burn up. Material Sourcing I think I got more spinning done at camp than knitting. I brought the last chunk of the Nantucket to finish. I would call it about an ounce (It’s the fiber B found under the couch.) I this wasbv sweater I ordered 4 oz of Cormo from Herman Hills Farm in southern Ohio. The Cormo is lovely stuff but the pin drfting doesn’t seem to agree with me. This may just be something I need to get used to. I meant to spin this at camp but I ignored it. What got the most action was the PotLuck fiber from paradise fibers in the Party Colorway. I bought 16 oz of this to get a discount not knowing how much 16 oz really was in terms of spinning. I did 4 ozs a long ways back. I took the remaining 4 oz of the 1st ball as loaner fiber for anyone that wanted to use my wheel. The bright colors caught some eyes and I spent most of my time spinning this. I finished that ball the day after I got home. Now I’m looking the second ball thinking that I may just start on that. bbbb The last time I spun this fiber I stripped out all the color repeats and Navajo plied. That gave me a worsted-ish weigh yar with long color repeats. This time I left the roving intact, Pre darafted, and spun back and forth across the top of all the colors. With the difference I think I’d going to do some ply tests before I break into that second ball. After 5 The house is standing. I didn’t get any panicked phone calls. I even came home to a clean house! Maybe I should leave more often. Joe took B to the Kindergarten Fair. This little event sounded pretty cool the was supposed to be a petting zoo, a clown, games an prizes. Joe unlike me is on time for everything. In fact he’s so on time that it sometimes border on rude. (45 minutes early for a job interview..) Joe and B got there before the clown and while the animals were still getting set up. Which brought B face to face with a tarantula. Who the heck brings a tarantula to a Kindergarten petting zoo? Needless to say he freaked and wouldn’t stay for the balloon guy and wouldn’t look at any more animals. As if the Kindergarten Fair weren’t emotionally scarring enough B also had a dentist apt. which is now required for entrance to kindergarten. From what I hear everything was going fine until joe got his big ol’ size 15 shoe on the pedal that starts the drill. The drill went off and scared everyone in the room and once again B was done. Though to tell the tale now B believes he is an expert at the dentist and proudly tells me about the watermelon paste the dentist put on his teeth. Last episode I recoded a bit on the new issue of vogue knitting the episode would have been an hour long so I kept it for this week… Vogue Knitting – spring and summer. Think Pink! I bought this issue for the drop stitch scarf. But I feel it’s worth picking up. Articles of note that caught my eye… A write up on Ysolda Teague she talks about how she became a knitwear designer. I love that her parents thought she was “depressed”. There’s also a series on finishing that started this month with “Finish before you start” which contains some good reminders that a poorly written pattern may be the first challenge in finishing. I like articles like this because it brings the tips I know but have managed to forget back to the fore. Like reading through a pattern to take a look at the sizing or to make sure everything makes sense. I hate when I look at the pattern and look at my stitches and I have no idea how to get from point A to point B in the pattern. This month also has cute spring knits. I could see my self swaning around pool side in the Summer Poncho by Sheri more. The pattern as written is tunic length in the front and knee length in the back. If I decided to cast this one I would look into making it ankle length and the same length in the front and back. Which would be a TON of knitting. But I’m pretty short at 5 ft 1 so it may be doable. Lace, panels, cabling, and drop stitch detail. I really like The Shaped Hemline sleeveless pullover by Vicki Square. This is in the running for Camp KIP Knitting. I’ve been looking at the summer tops in here and even though I prefer sleeves the A line body and collar are styles that I find appearing in my wardrobe over and over. The second runner up in my “summer top to Knit” race is Joan McGowan’s V neck Top with the leaf – lace band. Looking at the finished sweater it doesn’t look bad but the side close zipper spooks me… hmmmmmm. Think Pink… There isn’t one project in the Think Pink Section I wouldn’t consider. But I need another shawl like I need a whole in the head. Maybe the lace beret?

Spinning a lock of wool is the traditional way to get a very thin yarn.  That is because you can pull a small number of fibers out of the lock, and give the drafting zone a very thin prep of fiber.  In this podcast I review how each of five different breeds of sheep's locks spun and how I made my decision whether to continue to prep the fiber for spinning by lock washing. The five breeds discussed are Cormo/Border Leicester, Corriedale, Romney, Cormo and an unknown ewe lambs fleece. This is one time a video is worth many podcast words, so I have posted a video showing me spinning from the lock on Youtube.  You can find it here. There's a second part to the podcast, discussing spinning from the fold.  This technique is often used with angora, and I've discussed why and how to spin from the fold. Interlude music is by Kevin Wood, and is called 'Twilight of Hope" The closing song is by Lisa Redford and is called "Hope Never Dies" Both can be found on the podsafe music network.

Buying a fleece straight from the sheep is the true starting point for many spinners.  In this podcast I talk about thinking through the process before you actually go shopping, and then what to look for when you are finally ready to buy. I would like to include references to two books that I mention in this podcast: Turning Wool into a Cottage Industry  by Paula Simmons In Sheep's Clothing by Nola and Jane Fournier Music is from the podsafe music network  and was the instrumental Change of Autumn by Brian Turner.   As promised: a listing of sheep breed based on the softest possible micron count (the number listed after the name of the sheep): Sheep breeds softest to roughest listing Reference  In Sheep's Clothing  by Nola and Jane Fournier Fine wools                                                                                                       Merino 18   Rambouillet 19               CVM 21                                                                                     Cormo 21                                                                                     Polworth 21                                                                           Romeldale 21                                                                   Targhee 22                                                                           Polypal 22                                                                         Bond 23                                                                             Columbia 24                                                                             Corriedale 26                                    Down Breeds                 Shetland  23  Southdown  23  Clun Forest  25       Montadale  25               Tunis  25         Black Welsh Mountain 26    Ryeland  26  Shropshire  26  Suffolk  26  Cheviot  28      Longwools                                                                  Blue faced Leicester 24                          Texel   26                                                    Gotland   28                                                    Perendale  28                                                        Teeswater  30                                                 Wensleydale 30                                          Romney 33                                               Cotswold  34                                            Coopworth  35                                          Lincoln 36                                                  Border Leicester  37

Spinning on my front porch, means cool morning air, birdsong and the occasional cow mooing in the background.  But the topic of the yarnspinnerstale this month is very cool, as I tell all about my recent cruise to Alaska with Seasocks 08. Before that though, I discuss two sheep breeds from my rare breed sampler:  Cormo and Montadale.  The photo is from some of the cormo spun from combed top pulled through a diz. Music for this podcast is from the Podsafe Music Network.  New music artists include: Janet Spahr  with Rosemary Damh the Bard with Lady of the Silver Wheel And special thanks to Wren Ross for letting me use Baa Baa Black sheep with the sheep fleece reviews, and to Clare Dowling for the opening Spinning song. A few links I said I would include are: Amy Singer   her webpage is here.  Amy taught a shawl Plug and Play class on the cruise. Crissy Gardner, and Heather Ordover  each taught in the Heels, Heels, Heels classes. And Brenda Dayne, talking all about her experiences podcasting, was the highlight of the trip, for this podcaster. Finally, I issue an Olympic challenge.  I did this for the winter Olympics, and the blog entry is in the archives from my blog.  But I am in the mood to do something different this time, and talk about that in the podcast.  I hope you will join me in August as I watch the Olympics and take on your own Olympic spinning challenge. You have a bit of time, but don't dally, the challenge starts 08/08/08. Happy summer solstice!
