Show Notes: The state fair is always a fun time no matter what state you live in, but for families with children with disabilities, it isn't always an option. The NC State Fair has created a special day where they have created a more sensory-friendly environment for fairgoers called their Access ABILITY Day where they've modified some of the noise and lights as well as provided space for quieter activities. This episode of the podcast is devoted to bringing you a guide to the NC State Fair for special needs families. We interviewed Heather Overton, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Heather shares some inside tips on how to make the most of your visit to the NC State Fair including dates, times, parking, handicap parking, senior citizens discounts, food, activities, tickets, and much more! We focused the second half of the interview on the NC Fair's Access ABILITY Day for families with special needs children. Heather gives us all the details of what to expect, what time to arrive, and where you can go if you need to find a quiet spot for your child to calm down if they get too excited with all the activity. The modifications they are making in the sounds and lights will be appreciated by those who are able to attend during the Access ABILITY Day, and Heather told us about some of the special competitions that they have planned. If you attend this year's Access ABILITY Day, we'd love to hear about your visit! Let us know in the comments below or on our Instagram account @water.prairie, and share your photos too! If you're in another state, let us know if your state is offering more sensory-friendly options at the state fair this year, and we'll see if we can feature more like this from around the US. In local news, The Appalachian reports Boone and App State are aiming for a carbon-free town by 2050. In January, The Boone Town Council came up with a five step process for eliminating carbon emissions. One major area of focus for reducing carbon emissions is to “green” the electricity and energy being burnt. If budget constraints allow, Boone plans to purchase cleaner energy sources of hydropower and solar power. Boone also wants to see no carbon emissions associated with government-operated vehicles, such as buses and snow plows. Appalcart is expected to have their first electric bus by January. App State's switch to carbon free power will begin in January. In North Carolina News, The NC State Fair is set to return Thursday, Oct. 14, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. However, things may be different than years prior. Fair goers can expect a more “scaled-back” version of vendors and exhibits, as some have opted not to set up this year as the COVID-19 crisis continues. Vaccinations and masks are not required, but are strongly encouraged if you plan venturing out to the fairgrounds. You should also be aware that the NC State Fair has implemented a “clear bag” policy. Fair officials encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a fun and safe experience. In national news, Pfizer asked the US Government to allow use of its COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 5 to 11, according to the Associated Press. If approved, vaccinations could begin within weeks for roughly 28 million U.S. children. Children ages 5 to 11 would receive one-third the regular amount of dosage. Children under the age of 12 years old are currently not authorized to receive any COVID-19 vaccination. This afternoon's weather report is brought to you by booneweather.com. Keep your umbrella and rain jacket handy. Periods of rain will continue Friday with the rain tapering off by evening. Expect a high of 66 degrees and a low of 55 degrees.

Triangle Tactical Podcast - Competitive Shooting, Mostly

A month or so ago I was at the indoor shooting range, and there was a legit bullseye shooter in the lane next to me. I ran my target out next to his (25y), and tried to best his groups. The best I could muster were groups about double the size of his, and I was shooting with both hands, and he was only using one.  Ever since then I've been thinking that I could probably learn a thing or two from shooting a few Bullseye matches. The idea of being absolutely, crazily, laser accurate with a pistol is very interesting to me.  While looking into the more accuracy based competitions, I came across this old episode of the Power Factor Show with Caleb Giddings talking about Bianchi Cup. I've always kind of rolled my eyes at it as an "action" type shooter, but more and more I think it could be good for me to try something that's more accuracy based.  If you're an action type shooter that's shot a few Bullseye matches, I'd be interested to hear if you had any takeaways from it.  The News The North Marianias Islands had their handgun ban repealed just a week or so ago by a Federal judge, and now in response their House and Senate have passed a bill that will add a $1000 tax onto the price of any handgun sold there. What a joke, this is an obvious infringement. Guns.com has more on it here. Here's the text of the bill (.pdf).  The NC Department of Agriculture has released their report on the feasability of having a place to store guns at the gate of the NC State Fair. As expected, they said it was a bad idea.  Here's episode 103 of the podcast where Ben and I break down the whole situation as it was unfolding 2 years ago. Here's the report that the NCDA released. It's in plain text, and only about 8 pages, I'd recommend reading it. Gear that Doesn't Suck I love my Spyderco Delica 4 with the Wave opener. It's just a fantastic knife that I've been carrying for about 5 years now. There was a time when I got frustrated with getting the VG-10 steel good and sharp, but once I learned a good technique, it's just been fantastic.  The Wave feature is what really sets the knife apart. It makes it one hand opening without having using any springs or anything like an assisted opening knife which can have dubious legality in some places. Dryfire Drill of the Week: A new shooter on the IDPA Facebook group asked about ow to practice shooting from cover after getting a lot of cover calls at his first IDPA match.  It's pretty simple really, set up some type of barricade in your dryfire dojo, and then film yourself with your phone engaging the targets from behind the cover of the barricade. You can then review the video you make sure you're keeping the appropriate amount of your body behind cover. Triangle Tactical Podcast - Competitive Shooting, Mostly

I’ve mentioned a bit on the blog and Facebook page over the past couple of days that I picked up a Glock 19 Gen4 to act as my primary CCW pistol for a while. I’ve been wanting to go back to a doublestack gun with decent capacity, and finally made the plunge for a whole host of reasons that I go through in this episode. What I haven’t mentioned is that Ben inherited my XDs 9mm to act as his new summer carry gun. He fell in love with it after we did the “Pocket 9mm Shootout” back in Episode 68, and has been kicking around the idea of buying it since then. We spend a bit of time in the episode going through our reasons for making the switch. The News We’ve talked extensively in the past about the shenanigans going on at the NC State Fair regarding concealed carry. Linoge reported that when he went to the fair last week, the security was incredibly lax, and other listeners have reported just the opposite on the Triangle Tactical Facebook page. It seems that security has been inconsistent to say the least. Furthermore, Saturday night, some folks were robbed at gunpoint while walking back to their vehicle after leaving the fair. With all of the media attention about the ban on carry at the fair, the criminals almost certainly knew that they wouldn’t encounter an armed victim. An NC family was the victim of a home invasion last week, that ended in a shootout between the grandfather, and three home invaders. The grandfather was shot 8 times, and one of the bad guys died. The other two home invaders were also shot. A Minnesota woman somehow found out that a man local to her has a CCW permit, and walks his daughters to school. She decided that this just can’t be, and has posted a sign in her yard with a picture of the man that says “This man carried a loaded gun around your children every day”. Contact

Recorded during a weekly long run as I run past the Raleigh Airport, around a formerly unknow lake behind the Angus Barn and down Hwy 70. Also have a reveiw on Injinji socks and some crazyness from the 2010 NC State Fair. Enjoy! Opening and closing music by the group Uncle Seth (uncleseth.com) and featured music preformed by the ''Voodoo Kings'' (voodkings.com) from the Chicago area of IL. Both can be found on the pod safe music network of musicalley.com
