DJ Seeterlin, Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer, and Kevin Wood, Managing Director of Flexent at Chesapeake Bank, recently joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss an exciting new business initiative in the trucking sector. Chesapeake Bank, known for offering the Flexent program focusing on accounts receivable financing since 1995, has taken a significant step forward to address a pressing need in the industry. In 2023, recognizing the necessity for faster payment solutions for truck drivers—who often need immediate funds for expenses such as fuel and repairs—Chesapeake Bank acquired another company to develop a real-time payments system. This innovative system allows truck drivers to receive funds instantly upon load delivery and paperwork submission, effectively bypassing slower methods like ACH and expensive wire transfers. The initiative has already seen strong adoption, with 93% of truck drivers preferring instant payments. Chesapeake Bank has been a pioneer in adopting real-time payment technologies, being among the first 25 banks in the US to implement them in 2020. Their early involvement and proactive approach in the industry have enabled them to swiftly deploy these solutions, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. The new service is expected to significantly benefit the trucking sector by providing faster and more efficient payment options. Additionally, it is poised to enhance Chesapeake Bank's traditional receivables financing business, while also generating additional revenue through ancillary products. This initiative underscores Chesapeake Bank's dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its clients and advancing the financial services industry. The company emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting how the real-time payments system not only supports truck drivers in their day-to-day operations but also strengthens Chesapeake Bank's position as a leader in financial innovation. As the trucking industry continues to grow and evolve, Chesapeake Bank remains committed to providing cutting-edge solutions that drive success for their clients. #proactiveinvestors #chesapeakefianancialsharesinc #otcqx #ckpf #TruckingIndustry, #RealTimePayments, #AccountsReceivableFinancing, #InnovationInBanking, #FinancialServices, #TruckDrivers, #InstantPayments, #PaymentSolutions, #BusinessFinancing, #Fintech, #RevenueGrowth, #CustomerService, #FinancialInnovation, #BankingSolutions, #FuelExpenses, #TruckRepairs, #USBanking, #PaymentTechnologies #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

This week on Brokers' Corner Colorado broker, Kevin Wood, sits down and talks about his experience as a newer broker to the industry. While a lot of brokers have been around a while, there is an advantage of having a fresh perspective. The benefits industry is slow moving, and a lot of brokers have kept the same strategies for quoting, communicating, and open enrollment. Breaking into the industry, especially with the help of technology, allows another angle to have a competitive edge against other agencies. Book a BerniePortal demo
Co-founder and former owner of Darling Brew, Kevin Wood sat down to chat with me about how his brewing journey started. It's a canned history of the early days of the craft beer industry that he navigated with his wife and co-founder Philippa Wood. Darling Brew shot to prominence in the industry back when men were men and beer was nervous. He left the game in the tumult of Covid, and now runs a smokehouse and adventure centre called 'Living Colour' outside his home town of Darling in the Western Cape. For fans of his approach to making beer, there's a little brewing project brewing on the road between Darling and Yzerfontein.Living Colour, Darling On Instagram @a_table_inthecorner Cover image sketched by Courtney Cara Lawson All profile portraits by Russel Wasserfall unless otherwise credited

Welcome to Hunting & Fishing BC, my podcast about fishing, hunting and other wild pursuits in British Columbia and western Canada. I'm Robert Koopmans and every once in a while, I chat with people about interesting aspects of our outdoor sports. This time around, I talked to John Zubak, a Kamloops hunter who truly embodies the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. John and his family eat only wild meat, a decision they made years ago. That decision gave John's hunting new purpose, and also fuelled a passion for cooking. To share what he knows about cooking, John hosts a YouTube cooking channel called “In the Kitchen with John” in which he shares pioneer-spirit recipes that are perfect for those who are seeking greater connection to their food. John and I talked about what it means and what it takes to be protein self-sufficient … In the second part of today's show, Kevin Wood and I called up Jeff Maron, a Chilliwack-based archer whose obsession with perfection led him to create his company, Pin-It Custom Bow Strings. Jeff is fanatical about bow string quality and has developed his own system for building quality strings that not only last but shoot arrows to the highest possible standards. It's an interesting chat about many technical aspects of bow strings that most of us probably never think much about. ***Jeff Maron decided pretty early on in his archery career that he could build better bow strings than what is available from most string makers. He carefully studied all aspects of strings and learned how to avoid the common pitfalls that plague archers who don't shoot good strings. Jeff promises his strings will never stretch and will last tens of thousands of shots. At the same time, they will provide dependable repeatable performance that will translate into new levels of accuracy. Both Kevin and I have bought strings from Jeff, and both of us will wholeheartedly agree — Jeff knows how to build high-quality strings. Welcome to Hunting & Fishing BC, my podcast about fishing, hunting and other wild pursuits in British Columbia and western Canada. I'm Robert Koopmans and every once in a while, I chat with people about interesting aspects of our outdoor sports. This time around, Jeremy Jensen, Kevin Wood and I met up at Jeremy's archery warehouse in Kamloops to shoot some arrows and bullshit in rambling fashion about bow and arrow accuracy. I'm not sure how much fact we brought to the table, but it was fun to discuss all the same… It's a good time of year to sit around and have long rambling chats about stuff like this… Hunting season is still a long way down the road, and hey, you have to kill time somehow. ***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. Welcome to Hunting & Fishing BC, my podcast about fishing, hunting and other wild pursuits in British Columbia and western Canada. I'm Robert Koopmans and this week Jeremy Jensen, Kevin Wood and I talked about the end of the hunting season, how it all turned out, and what role bowhunting will play for us in the future. We also answer some questions from a listener about things like cover scents, camo, how to carry binoculars, and making best use of the off-season to practice… Lastly, my apologies for the sporadic episode publishing schedule this past fall. These sorts of projects are often the first to be sacrificed when life gets busy. All that said, doing this podcast is something I enjoy, and I'll be back in the New Year with a resolution to record content more regularly. Welcome to Hunting and Fishing BC, my podcast about fishing, hunting and other wild pursuits in British Columbia and western Canada. I'm Robert Koopmans and along with Jeremy Jensen and Kevin Wood, we're talking about first steps in bowhunting. All of us have decided that this year will be the “Year of the Bow.” We've made a commitment to hunt only with a bow and not firearms, and we have set out to gain the skills and knowledge required before this year's deer hunting season. This week, we met up at our indoor shooting lanes in Kamloops to reflect back on six weeks of bear hunting in B.C.'s Interior. Just to summarize, for those who don't want to listen to the chat but want to know how our hunt turned out, here are the stats. In the end, we saw 18 bears, and had three opportunities to nock an arrow to a string. In the end, however, we didn't shoot a bear with an arrow, highlighting one more time how much hunting with a bow changes the game. Had we been hunting with rifles instead of bows, we'd be telling a different story. We had five solid opportunities to shoot a bear with a rifle at distances less than 100 yards. Closing distances from 100 to 50 yards or less to get into bow range, however, proved to be an entirely different task… Despite how it ended, we consider the season to be an inordinate success. We learned tons about bears, and saw amazing amounts of wildlife, including big bucks, does, fawns, grouse and more rabbits than we could count. We toughed out some long days cruising rugged backcountry on ebikes, and endured evenings with murderous clouds of mosquitoes. And we found some amazing new country that will certainly draw us back this fall. Most importantly, though we had a great time … So please, listen in as we chat about how it all went down. If you hear a question that you have an answer for or have a comment, let us know. Send us an email at info@theoutdoornarrative.com . We'd love to hear from you … ***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. If you want to share a thought, send me an email at info@theoutdoornarrative.com. In this episode, we met up at our indoor warehouse shooting lane to talk about broadheads. There are many, many choices these days when it comes to broadheads, and deciding what to tip your arrows with for hunting can be a daunting task. Before the three of us chatted, however, I had a conversation with Mitchell Haifley, the owner of VPA Archery, a US manufacturer selling, among other things, a line of precision-machined broadheads in a wide array of weights and configurations. We talked about the differences between fixed blade and mechanical broadheads and Mitchell weighed in on some of the things he thinks about when it comes to broadheads. After my chat with Mitchell, Kevin, Jeremy and I had a look at a small selection of broadheads that VPA sent our way, and discussed things we have been thinking about when deciding what broadheads to hunt with. Lastly, we gave the VPA broadheads a quick shoot at our indoor range, and discovered a couple of interesting things that will certainly affect how we make our broadhead choices down the road…***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. We also had a chat about the Garmin Xero A1 laser range-finding bow sight, a unique piece of technology that offers bow hunters a potential pathway to faster and more accurate shooting in the field. The sight is not without issues, however, and we discussed the pros and cons of this piece of high-priced bow technology and whether any of us will ever end up with the sight on our bows in hunting season. I've had the opportunity to try the sight on two occasions and offered my thoughts about what works and what doesn't. We wrapped up the chat with talk about upcoming plans to get in the field in the next week or so to chase bears with arrows, a new experience that will be much different than any of us newbie bowhunters are used to … ***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. He's practised continually to develop his archery skills and learn the technical aspects of hunting with a bow. A few weeks ago, he put it all together for a first-ever hunting trip to Mayne Island BC, where he and a friend chased fallow deer. This is a unique hunting opportunity in BC, one that allows hunters to pursue the introduced exotic all year-round. These deer escaped from a game farm years ago and are overpopulating the small island, which sits in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Kevin had a great trip, and shared with Jeremy and I how it all went down … ***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. Staying on Top of Your Game With Kevin WoodKevin Wood opened CrossFit Moncton 11 years ago in New Brunswick, Canada, making him one of Canada's most long-standing affiliate owners. When he affiliated in 2008, the aesthetic of CrossFit was a lot different: wall balls made of sand-filled basketballs and grungy gyms instead of shiny equipment and bright, colorful spaces.Though Kevin's goal has remained the same over the years—to make people fit and healthy—he's had to adjust his mindset and operations to make his gym not just a passion project but also a business. When Kevin joined Two-Brain Business just a few months ago, the gym had just had one of its worst months ever following a costly forced relocation. But after just one month of mentorship, the gym had its best month ever after turning $500 in ad spend into $4,000 in front-end sales. Here's how he did it—and some of the lessons he's learned after more than a decade of gym ownership.Links: http://crossfitmoncton.com/https://incitetax.com/Contact: kevin@crossfitmoncton.comTimeline:3:10 – From gym teacher to gym owner.5:38 – The early days: sand-filled basketballs and $5 workouts at the playground.8:01 – The mission hasn’t changed: To change people’s lives with fitness.11:28 – Turning a passion into a business: You can’t make everybody happy.13:58 – How to make your service the best hour of your clients’ days.15:39 – From worst to best month ever with Two-Brain Business.17:45 – First lesson learned: Delegate tasks, not job titles.20:24 – Overhauling the on-ramp process.22:03 – How to sell coaches on the sales process.24:19 – The point isn’t to take clients’ money, it’s to change their lives.26:55 – CrossFit’s target market, then and now.27:40 – Ask your clients what keeps them coming back. Today we sit down with Kevin Wood, the Owner and Brewer at Red Deer’s Something Brewing and Drummond Brewing. Kevin is an Alberta craft beer original having incorporated in April of 2004, and being situated right in the rivalry neutral zone between Edmonton and Calgary allows him to focus strictly on more beer and better beer. Kevin’s presence in Alberta’s liquor industry was cemented long before reviving the Drummond Brewing name and participating in Mark’s first ever Alberta Beer Festival. He was voted “most likely to be a beer rep” in high school, and after moving to Calgary he quickly found himself working at The Drink, later meeting his longtime business partner Cody while working for the same chain of nightclubs. Together he and Cody founded their own successful nightclub, Desperados, and we learn how their club’s eventual closing down would lead to them acquiring the Drummond name and trying their hand at brewing. After 15 years of Drummond and the years before with Desperados, Kevin and his business partner Cody (who are not brothers, despite the rumours!) have been a successful team, and Kevin explains how important it is to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to achieve this. Another important practice in their success is always learning, and Kevin has traveled to more than 700 breweries to learn from them. “There’s a reason something’s being done that way. In this episode we look into the popular issues with conspiracy theories and uncover the truth behind what they are. Is the government really spying us? Do conspiracy theories actually reveal anything significant or is there something deeper and more personal behind their existence in the world? In A Corner in the Occult we visit early 20th century Germany and discuss the Nazis and the issues pertaining to their possible involvement with occultism. Many people like to attribute their rise to power and the events pertaining to the Second World War to their involvement in the occult arts and even demonic influence. We also read some listener email and in The Essence of Magick we talk about visualization and astral projection. Learn why visualization is so important to the magickal arts and learn how to astral project in this episode's installment of this great and informative series! And to close, we finish the episode with a look into the ever present concern and pursuit for world peace. Take a new perspective on issues surrounding world peace and why it may not be the easiest thing to accomplish after all despite what some people say. Spinning a lock of wool is the traditional way to get a very thin yarn. That is because you can pull a small number of fibers out of the lock, and give the drafting zone a very thin prep of fiber. In this podcast I review how each of five different breeds of sheep's locks spun and how I made my decision whether to continue to prep the fiber for spinning by lock washing. The five breeds discussed are Cormo/Border Leicester, Corriedale, Romney, Cormo and an unknown ewe lambs fleece. This is one time a video is worth many podcast words, so I have posted a video showing me spinning from the lock on Youtube. You can find it here. There's a second part to the podcast, discussing spinning from the fold. This technique is often used with angora, and I've discussed why and how to spin from the fold. Interlude music is by Kevin Wood, and is called 'Twilight of Hope" The closing song is by Lisa Redford and is called "Hope Never Dies" Both can be found on the podsafe music network.
