Dave Lopez | Guitarist Composer; Jason Becker Benefit / Fundraiser

Today on the Hot Jazz Network Podcast, Dave Lopez and George Cole announced an important benefit/fundraiser for the Jason Becker Creative Care Project. Jason Becker's story, if you haven't heard it, is one you'll never forget—a tale of brilliance, talent, determination, adversity, and ultimate triumph. A child prodigy on guitar, Jason rose to prominence as a teenager when he was one half of the legendary rock guitar duo Cacophony (with his great friend Marty Friedman). After wowing audiences worldwide with his amazing guitar skills and deep compositions, Jason auditioned for—and secured—the coveted position with David Lee Roth, following in the footsteps of Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai. He wrote and recorded the DLR album "A Little Ain't Enough" and was poised to take over the rock guitar world when a nagging pain in his leg was diagnosed as ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a debilitating and fatal condition with a life expectancy of approximately five years.Jason did indeed lose the ability to play guitar, walk, talk, and breathe on his own. However, he never lost his will to live or his desire to create music. Communicating through a series of eye movements with a system developed by his father, Jason spells out words as well as musical notes and chords. He imparts his musical vision to his team, who then input the notes into a computer, edit the parts to his exacting standards, and generate charts for session musicians. Through this remarkable process, Jason composes his profoundly beautiful music, rich in melody and counterpoint, brimming with emotion. His inspiring music and life story have been the subject of countless news articles, magazine cover stories, and an award-winning documentary, "Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet."Not only is Jason still alive, but he's busier and more prolific than ever. His release, "Triumphant Hearts," showcases his gift for melody and deep knowledge of classical composition and orchestral arrangement. The album features Jason's signature, amazing guitar playing (recorded in the '80s and '90s) as well as performances by a who's-who of guitar virtuosos, including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Neal Schon, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert, Joe Bonamassa, and many others.Jason Becker isn't just an extraordinary musician; he's also one of the most positive, upbeat, and inspiring individuals alive. "I really feel lucky," says Jason. "I am surrounded by loving people, and I can still make music."DAVE LOPEZ Born in Chile, David Lopez's musical journey began when his brother introduced him to the world of guitar, rock, and Latin music. Growing up in Richmond, CA, Dave developed a passion for the diverse sounds of hip hop and heavy metal. Learning from the legendary musician and composer Jason Becker, Dave further honed his skills and later worked in studio management at the renowned Jackson St. Studios and Sound Wave Studios with artists ranging from 2Pac to Metallica. In 2003, he formed Flipsyde and toured worldwide with acts such as Snoop Dogg, Black Eyed Peas, and Busta Rhymes. Flipsyde's success included platinum and gold records, such as their 2005 debut album, "We the People" (Interscope). Their song "Someday" was chosen as a theme song by NBC for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games and appeared on the soundtrack for the 2008 film "Never Back Down."Jason Becker Creative Care Project Launch Party Fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM Baltic Kiss, 135 Park Place, Point Richmond, CA 510-260-0571 https://www.baltickiss.com/ https://jasonbecker.com/

Hello Listeners! In this episode, we had the opportunity to have a conversation with Allen Ling, American artiste of Chinese origin based in California, is a singer-songwriter, music-producer, entrepreneur, and comic book publisher. Allen Ling release the trilogy started with "Straight to the Ocean" in June 2023, where the story revolves around a broken heart and healing. The visuals, marked by a cohesive style, unfold a metaphorical emotional journey, continuing with "A Name in Your Book" in July 2023, leading to the final song, "Remember" ft Dave Lopez. The collaboration with Dave Lopez, the lead guitarist and producer of the rock band Flipsyde, in 2016 drove him to pursue the trilogy of tracks. The lyrics of Allen Ling's recently released track ‘Remember' align with the emotional depth of his earlier two songs regarding pathos and melancholy. ‘Straight Into Ocean', ‘A Name in Your Book', and now ‘Remember', are part of a trilogy that is inspired by Allen's personal life. We were just back in Denver for the 41st Great American Beer Festival, and we've got an episode chock full of interviews and beer highlights that's as good as gold (medals). Catch up on our beer-y travels as we hit the festival floor for about 14 total hours and stop into several great Denver taprooms and bars, sharing our experiences and regrettable food decisions along the way. Plus, we talk to a bevy of fascinating brewers and brewery owners from all over the U.S. and we hear stories about an onstage proposal, a beer made with the cast of Hamilton, a terpene-infused milkshake IPA, a brewer who has won Master Distiller, and the (maybe) real original year of Bourbon County Stout. And to top that off, we open three Denver-area beers in the hotel while trying to soothe our ragged voices and heal up from a serious vapors affliction. PLUS, Craig's going ASMR while Ryan's recording from the chaise longue.  Beers Reviewed WeldWerks Brewing Co. - Colorado Ale (Traditional Ale) Burns Family Artisan Ales - Gallivant (Gin barrel-aged barleywine) Jessup Farm Barrel House - Wheelhouse (Bourbon barrel-aged brown ale) Interviews Matt Brynildson of Firestone Walker Brewing Company (Paso Robles, CA) - [00:11:20 - 00:21:13] Ryan Fields of Wild Fields Brewhouse (Atascadero, CA) - [00:26:51- 00:30:07] Colt Carpenter of Pax Verum Brewing Company (Lapel, IN) - [00:39:03 - 00:45:42] Leo Sawadogo of Montclair Brewery (Montclair, NJ) - [00:54:10 - 00:59:08] Rick Hagen and Greg Meyer of Heavy Riff Brewing (St. Louis, MO) - [01:12:44 - 0:1:18:46] Dave Lopez of Gun Hill Brewing Company (Bronx, NY) - [01:33:33 - 01:39:42] Ryan Wibby of Wibby Brewing (Longmont, CO) - [01:50:52 - 01:57:08]

Episode 315 - Curtain Up Beer Project (The Happy Hour Guys & Gun Hill Brewing) Happy Monday, Thieves! We’ve got a trio of guests on the show today to talk about the Curtain Up Beer Project, a relief fund for The Actors Fund and associated charities meant to help workers in the Broadway and live performance industry. Mark Aldrich and Jimmy Ludwig of The Happy Hour Guys founded the project along with Dave Lopez of the Bronx’s Gun Hill Brewing. Much in the spirit of Other Half’s All Together and Weathered Souls’ Black is Beautiful, the open source collaborative beer project aims to raise funds to support an industry decimated from the covid-19 pandemic. Jimmy and Mark are both full-time actors so this project is near and dear to their hearts. And you can hear it in their voices—we get into some serious conversation and the implications of a continued shutdown in their industry. We hope you tune in and help support the dozen of breweries who are helping making this beer for a good cause. ***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com. On the show is Dave Lopez from Gun Hill Brewing Company in the Bronx, NY; Jon Zerivitz from Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore, Maryland; Kris March from Slickfin Brewing in Fort Edward, NY; and Jimmy Ludwig and Mark Aldrich from The Happy Hour Guys. For the first half of the show, Jimmy, The Happy Hour Guys, and Dave catch up with Jon down in Baltimore. Jon highlights Baltimore’s rich art scene and all the support his Curtain Up beer has received from the Baltimore community. He also credits Covid-19 for helping him refocus and slow down a bit, reworking his brewing process and recipes so that everything is in great shape for an early March reopening. Jimmy and Mark speak candidly about how hard the past year has been for anyone in the live performance industry, and how the Curtain Up Initiative is adding any sort of stimulus they can to people’s lives. In the second half of the show, The Happy Hour Guys and Dave bring on Kris, who has a unique family connection to the Broadway scene. While he’s only a couple of years into owning his one-barrel brewery, Kris has been experimenting with fermentation since he concocted a “toilet wine” while serving in Afghanistan. Now much more established, Kris reveals some super exciting news to the gang and shouts out his upcoming new beer inspired by Girl Scout cookies.Photo Courtesy of Mark Aldrich.Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network. This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy welcomes in Michael Opalenski from B United Imports; Justin Philips from Beer Table in Grand Central Terminal, NYC; and William Lees-Jones from J.W. Lees Brewery in Manchester, UK. The group welcomes the holiday season with a winter beer tasting, starting with JW Lee’s 2002 and 2015 Harvest Ales, and finishing with De Dolle’s Stille Nacht. Before tasting the aged beers, Michael explains the rising trend of “vintaging” beers. Later on, Justin explains that vintage ales actually launched his interest in craft beer. For William on the other hand, his family has been brewing beer since 1828, and it was his father who took on the challenge of brewing a strong beer with natural fermentation. The group takes a stab at food pairings, starting with the 2015 Harvest Ale. Michael suggests a creamy caramel with a hint of orange and Justin recommends a butterscotch pudding with sea salt. Switching to the De Dolle Stille Nacht, which translates to “silent night,” Justin described this classic beer as a Belgian winter warmer. Finally, William wraps with a toast, thanking retailers like Justin for pushing the boundaries and Michael and his team for launching his beers to the US.Then, Jimmy brings on Dave Lopez from Gun Hill Brewery in The Bronx, NY; and Jimmy Ludwig and Mark Aldrich from The Happy Hour Guys. Jimmy and Mark walk us through the Broadway Brews project, where they created one-off beers paired with Broadway shows. Their sixth and final beer hit just as 2020 kicked in, so the duo decided to launch a new project called Curtain Up. Proclaimed by Guitar Player magazine to be the greatest shredder ever, JASON BECKER has also emerged as a world-class composer. He used to play guitar -- now, after battling ALS for nearly three decades, he "plays guitar players," as well as writes for orchestras and choirs. And when he puts the two together, he blows your mind -- as you'll find out if snag his new album, TRIUMPHANT HEARTS. The record should please insatiable guitar fans everywhere, because it features an A-list roster of guest guitarists, including Trevor Rabin, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Ben Woods, Aleks Sever, Steve Morse, Neal Schon, Marty Friedman, Daniele Gottardo, Dave Shul, Steve Hunter, Gus G, Uli Jon Roth, Chris Broderick, and others, as well as ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. In addition to speaking with Jason, I caught up with people close to him who have helped him along his wild guitar adventure over the years, including MARILYN WHITE, MIKE BEMESDERFER, DAN ALVAREZ, DAVE LOPEZ, MATT BLACKETT, and Jason's father, GARY BECKER. It was a thrill to dive into the Jason Becker legacy with all of these great humans, and I thank them all for being so generous with their time. -- JUDE GOLD, host, No Guitar Is Safe podcast.

We acknowledge the many sacrifices military members endure while defending the freedom and security of our nation — and we acknowledge the sacrifices made by other service based careers that are dangerous (firefighters, emergency personal and police) — but their family members sacrifice just as much. Being the spouse of such service based professionals isn't an easy endeavor. In this episode, I talk with Aimee Lopez — wife to Dave Lopez, a former Navy SEAL who now conducts missions for two organizations: Operation Underground Railroad and The Nazarene Fund. O.U.R. rescues children from sex trafficking and The Nazarene Fund rescues victims kidnapped due to religious persecution. Dave's life is constantly in danger, so we're going to find out from Aimee how she remains calm while her husband is off in the dark trenches of evil constantly putting his life on the line, how she runs the home smoothly while Dave is gone, and how they maintain a normal home life and successful marriage despite the stress his job provides. And Dave is back on the show to join us for this conversation! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Why am I having this man on a marriage podcast? Because he exemplifies true masculinity - NOT because of his big muscles, charming personality or dashing good looks, and NOT because he's a total badass Navy SEAL, capable of handling the world's most dangerous situations and people; it's because he is a complete gentleman, a man of integrity, a man pure of heart, and a man that knows TRUE masculinity, what it means, and how to live it. In this episode, Dave and I talk about men, masculinity, and marriage. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
