Many leave their goals and dreams as ideas then get frustrated by their lack of progress.... This relates back to part 1 67% of people have goals 10% of people have plans, 2% of people will execute those plans.... understanding those statistics should force you to do some self reflection..... what percent are you? This should also alleviate some of your frustrations when ppl don’t follow through or create plans..... most Dont! And that’s why most wont succeed. #ThinkAboutIt

In this episode, I speak with legal writing authority, and professional treasure Bryan Garner about his most recent book, Garner's Guidelines for Drafting and Editing Contracts, published by West Academic. Some key takeaways are:1. Unlike most legal writing, contract writing is about the future; it guides parties about what will happen next in their relationship with each other.2. Precision matters in contract writing. Precise writing will create unmistakably and help to avoid conflict in the future.3. Every lawyer, regardless of the area of law in which they practice, needs a merger clause.About our guest:Bryan Garner is the authority on legal writing. He is the editor in chief of Black's Law Dictionary and the author of many leading works on legal style, including A Dictionary of Modern Legal Usage, The Elements of Legal Writing Style, Garner's The Redbook: A Manual of Legal Style, The Winning Brief, and The Winning Oral Argument. He has co-written two books with Justice Antonin Scalia; Reading the Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts and Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges. His magnum opus is the 897-page Garner's Modern Usage Style, published by Oxford University Press. Ali Breland is the technology reporter covering disinformation on the internet at Mother Jones. In this role Ali reports on Russian trolls, conspiracy theories on social media, surveillance tech, A.I. bias and general malfeasance and accountability reporting in tech. Prior to moving to MJ, and at the time of our T4C interview, Ali was a technology reporter at The Hill newspaper where he wrote and reported 3-5 news stories a day, in addition to grinding out 1-3 more analytical, deeply reported stories a week. Not bad for someone who just graduated from UT Austin in 2014 with a B.A. in Plan II and minors in English and Philosophy. To get to where he is now, Ali cut his teeth at The Alcalde (UT Austin Alumni Magazine) as an editorial intern and hustled outside of classes to interview artists and celebrities for CNN, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Huff Post. Ali also dabbled in a wide variety of other interests including winemaking as a Harvest intern (didn’t realize this was a job title) at Patz & Hall Winery and snowboarding. His love of journalism and technology landed him a bunch of different jobs along the way, including one at POLITICO as a web producer. Tune in to this episode of T4C to learn how this Java Junkie juggles the stress and demands of being a young journalist. Our special guest is Dr. Alicia Britt Chole, author of The Sacred Slow: A Holy Departure From Fast Faith. Alicia has often been compared to a velvet-wrapped sword: her voice is soothing and her messages are piercing. Dr. Alicia can be seen on TBN Mondays at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT. She loves less than trendy spiritual formation themes like what grows in barren seasons, the gift of decrease, the use and abuse of spiritual authority, doubt as a growing pain of faith, and habits of a truly healthy soul. An intriguing wordsmith, Alicia is a skillful mentor, an award-winning writer, and an international speaker. Men and women, learners and leaders, across ethnically diverse groups agree: In a culture obsessed with all-things-new, Alicia brings ancient truth to life. Alicia holds a doctorate in leadership and spiritual formation from George Fox Seminary and serves as the founding director and lead mentor of Leadership Investment Intensives (www.leadershipii.com), a nonprofit devoted to providing customized soul-care for leaders in business and ministry. Along with her husband, Dr. Barry Jay Chole, and their three amazing children (all Choles through the miracle of adoption), Alicia lives in the Ozark countryside and enjoys thunderstorms, jalapenos, #LOTR, thorny questions, wild woods, and pianos in empty rooms. Alicia Britt Chole’s atheistic existence was dramatically interrupted by Jesus weeks before she began her university studies. Of that experience Alicia states, “I would have had to commit emotional and intellectual suicide to deny God’s reality.” Today, Alicia speaks on the fusion of authentic faith and unexplainable pain to leaders, pastors, professionals, college students, and churches. All who have heard her agree: Alicia is an unusually disarming combination of realism and hope, intellect and grace, humor and art. Alicia and Barry have been married for 25 years. Together they laugh a lot parenting their three amazing children (all Choles through the miracle of adoption), four somewhat less than amazing dogs, one truly strange cat, and eight confused chickens off of a dirt road in a country home devoted to writing and refection. Alicia holds a B.A. in Plan II pre-law (1983) and an M.A. in Education (1994) from the University of Texas-Austin and a DMin in Leadership and Spiritual Formation from George Fox Evangelical Seminary (2015).
