Send us a text and chime in!Why Asphalt Behaves Differently in Prescott Valley Asphalt is widely used for driveways, parking lots, and roadways because it is durable, cost-effective, and capable of handling heavy traffic. However, its long-term performance is heavily influenced by the local environment. In Prescott Valley, asphalt is exposed to a unique combination of intense sunshine, high ultraviolet (UV) radiation, hot summer temperatures, seasonal monsoon storms, and noticeable day-to-night temperature fluctuations. These conditions gradually affect the asphalt binder, causing the pavement to lose flexibility, develop cracks, and become more vulnerable to moisture damage over time. Understanding how Arizona's climate impacts asphalt allows homeowners, business... Editor Katie McQuerrey has collaborated with Joel and Ethan Coen on several significant films over the past 25 years, including Intolerable Cruelty, No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, True Grit, and Inside Llewyn Davis. Their partnership began during the Coens' transition from film to digital – a period that also saw major changes to their editing process and suite. Katie's work transcends a unique range of genres and styles. Her credits include Matthew Barney's six-hour opera film River of Fundament; the road films Driveways and Wanderland; Roger Waters' concert documentaries Roger Waters: The Wall (2014) and Us + Them (2019); X, the short film directed by Josh Brolin; Naked Singularity, starring John Boyega; and Asphalt City (formerly Black Flies), starring Sean Penn, Tye Sheridan, and Michael Pitt. Asphalt City marked her third collaboration with director Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, following Punk and A Prayer Before Dawn. In television, Katie has also edited episodes of Human Giant, the cult classic The Andy Milonakis Show, and George & Tammy. Her most recent project, De Gaulle: Résistance, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026. Directed by Antonin Baudry and starring Simon Abkarian as Charles de Gaulle, the film chronicles de Gaulle's emergence as one of the defining military and political figures of World War II France. Adapted by Baudry and Bérénice Vila from Julian Jackson's biography A Certain Idea of France: The Life of Charles de Gaulle, Résistance is the first installment of an ambitious two-part epic, preceding De Gaulle: Liberté, which opened theatrically across France on June 26, 2026. In our conversation, we discussed Katie's multicultural background; the profound impact of seeing Apocalypse Now at a young age; her path to becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after editors and collaborating with Joel and Ethan Coen; and her experience editing De Gaulle through an international post-production process spanning France and the United States.Opening Credits: Pierce Murphy - Persimmon I CC BY; Pierce Murphy - Among The Stars I CC BY. Chad and Natalie sit down with Matt Bowyer, the Orange County bookie at the center of the Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal, for the full story behind the headlines. Matt ran one of the largest illegal sports betting operations in the country for over 30 years. At his peak he had 1,250 clients nationwide, 48 agents, and processed over $1 billion in wagers in 2023 alone. He was also betting millions of his own money because gambling was his addiction and he was the house getting high on his own supply. The feds raided him twice. The first time was 2014, 14 agents, his daughter crying in the driveway, coming home from losing $800,000 in Vegas on March Madness. The case didn't start with Ohtani. The feds didn't even know about Ohtani. The case started with casino money laundering, led to Matt, and then his electronics told the rest of the story. He grew up watching his Vietnam vet father drink 40 beers a day until his mom divorced him after three failed rehabs. By 13 he was the top newspaper salesman in Orange County. At 16 he had a poker ring running out of his house. At 18, with his girlfriend pregnant and the family in a Dana Point mobile home, he got hired as a busboy at Chevys, got recruited to a commodities brokerage, passed the Series 3 exam as a mail boy, and was making $600,000 a year at 21. He bought back the house his family had lost. Then he got tired of giving his money to bookies. He currently owes $9.7 million in taxes at $60,000 a month in interest. Tax lien on his $5 million home. Two years probation, mandatory Gamblers Anonymous, mandatory drug dealer classes every week. And a new book dropping called Controlled Chaos. #TheHopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #Hope #wedorecover #treatmentcenter #natalieevamarieJoin our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Go to www.Wolfpak.com today and support our sponsors. Questions? Comments? We love feedback! Email us at info@baishavaad.org Rav Yosef GreenwaldQuestion: After a heavy snowfall one winter day, I looked out my window and noticed my neighbor's son shoveling my driveway without being asked. He then came to my door and asked for $50 as payment. Do I have to pay him?Answer: We previously said that if someone is yored l'toch sadeh chaveiro, the property owner has to pay the value of the improvement to his property. The Gemara makes a distinction between a case where the field is “asuya lita” (set to be planted) and “aino asuya lita” (not set to be planted). Asuya lita means that everyone knows that the property owner is planning on hiring someone to plant his field at this time. Consequently, if someone steps in and does it, even if he was not contracted to do so, he becomes the de facto employee of the property owner and he must be paid as if he had been hired for the job. Similarly, if someone would know that a homeowner is looking for a painter to paint his house and he steps in and does it, he must be paid as an employee of the homeowner. This does not mean that the homeowner has to pay whatever amount the worker asks for; rather, he must pay the lowest end of what is considered a reasonable amount for that job. In this case, that would mean that if it was known that the homeowner was going to hire someone to shovel his driveway, he would have to pay the neighbor's child the lowest end of the standard cost for such a job.Whereas, in a case where a field is “aino asuya lita”, meaning that the owner was not necessarily planning on hiring anyone to plant his field, the worker who took it upon himself to plant is not considered his employee. In this case, the homeowner only pays for the value added to his property. This means that if the homeowner was planning on shoveling his driveway himself, he would not have to pay the neighbor's son for the value of the job. He would only have to pay him the amount of money he would be willing to pay to save himself the effort of not having to shovel the driveway himself.
Carley prayed for an uneventful, redemptive birth experience after her first hospital birth left her with mixed emotions. For her second baby, she switched to a midwife-run birth center, and describes the difference in care as night and day. But her child wasn't born at the birth center as planned. This baby had other plans, surprising Carley in the most joyous way with an "eventful yet uneventful" birth experience she never expected. Nora Jones the dog has Eric questioning whether there's room for him in his own bed. Kiley is fired up over the Amanda and West drama on Summer House, and a mysterious driveway toupee discovered by Eric at 5 a.m. has her laughing so hard she can barely speak. Lots of laughs and fun in this episode!
Kendra says she'd happily turn her driveway—and maybe the lawn—into game-day parking for extra cash. Sue says absolutely not.

Screenwriters Hannah Bos (HBO's Somebody Somewhere), Kim Krizan (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset) and Selina Lim (Sex Education, Hanna) on building writing partnerships, developing characters from the inside out, and finding your way into a writers' room. You'll learn Why a writing partnership only works when you can separate your ego from your ideas. How seven years of making weird theatre in Brooklyn quietly set the stage for an HBO show. What it takes to write a quiet, character-driven show in a TV landscape built for plot. How a master's thesis on a diarist turned into one of the most beloved screenplays of the nineties. How Before Sunrise was built from index cards on a living room floor. Why thinking about the product kills the work, and what to focus on instead. The case for starting with character before plot, and letting the story follow. What breaking into TV actually looks like. How to set the tone in a writers' room so the ridiculous ideas can surface. On the morning of January 25, 2019, 29-year-old Liz Barraza was shot and killed in front of her own home while setting up a garage sale. The suspect waited for her husband to leave for work, then opened fire with a revolver before fleeing in a dark-colored Nissan Frontier. Nothing was stolen. No clear motive has ever been established. The murder was captured on home security cameras, and the suspect's vehicle was recorded in the neighborhood hours before the shooting, suggesting a premeditated attack. Police were initially certain they would catch the killer within hours. Over six years later, the case remains unsolved.
Dianna had spoken with Bill many times before. What started as a routine call turned into something more — visits to his home, long conversations over tea, and a glimpse into a life marked by sacrifice, loss, and a quiet kind of generosity. There was just one thing she never brought up.On her final visit, standing in his driveway after everything had been signed, the thought came back again: simple, almost too simple. She hesitated. Then she asked.Bill didn't answer right away.He took two steps back, placed his hands over his heart, and stood there in silence.
