The four temperaments believe that people's behavior and personality are caused by the type and amount of fluids in their bodies. These fluids are categorized into 4 temperaments personality: Choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, and melancholic. The four temperaments personality test is obviously outdated now, but if you're interested in learning more about the history of personality ideas, then this video is definitely for you! [03:56] Seven Pillars that impact of affect change [04:19] Leaders get better at asking provocative questions. It will change our trajectory. [04:50] Flipping the script on BANI. [06:00] The card deck is applicable in our professional lives and in our personal lives. [09:00] Using questions to unlock the power of a group or team. [10:00] Nourishment Pillar power. [31:00] Changes Deck Question Practice [36:00] What do you really think drives performance? [37:20] FIRM Leadership [42:00] How can you keep in touch with Michael and follow his work? KEY TAKEAWAYS: Being good at change is a meta-skill that has a trickle-down effect on everything else. Get better at managing and creating change. Questions are one of the most helpful tools we have as leaders and people. If we get better at asking provocative questions, we change our trajectory. There is deep connectivity between nourishment and performance. It will take a business culture change that we need to do “whatever it takes” sacrificing our health and nourishment to actually create the results we are looking for. The science is there; business culture needs to catch up. There are clear answers out there and available. It's about connecting with the people and beliefs that there is a connection and can teach it. Look to thought leaders that explore the topics. Dig in and question your assumptions and look at the work from: Raj Sisodia, Fred Kaufman, Amy Edmonson, Lisa Duerre, Google Research Project - Aristotle. People are looking for a different workplace environment, and this is a critical time to be asking the question about performance and nourishment as a business leader. People don't like change or loss because people want consistency and predictability because it answers the question, “Am I safe?” and when we experience change, it disrupts our answer to “Am I safe?” Stay Connected: Michael's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mdiettrichchastain/ Michael's Website: www.arcintegrated.com Learn More About Changes Card Deck + Book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084VRYBDB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 RLD Group's website: https://rldgroupllc.com RLD Group's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/rldgroupllc RLD Group on Twitter: https://twitter.com/rldgroupllc Lisa Duerre on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisaduerre/ Ctrl+Alt+Delete with Lisa Duerre™ on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@realtalkwithlisa

There are several things effective leaders do regularly to drive performance in their teams and organizations. Are these tactics in your leadership toolkit? Cindy and Ralph break down the key components to driving performance that every leader should be integrating into their own practice.
Helen's story is an unusual one and what sets her apart from other accountancy practice leaders is her background of more than 30 years in Human Resources. With a belief that culture is what sets apart great professional service firms she's gone about guiding WR Partners through a time of intense change. Generously sharing her approach to driving strategy implementation across the business, Helen talks about how to tap into discretionary effort to boost business and personal performance and tips on how to tackle 'cave dwellers'. A not to be missed episode for senior leaders looking for a playbook on how to drive firmwide performance.
The aim of this series is to highlight the important shift that some L&D leaders and practitioners have made in order to more predictably and reliably affect individual and organisational performance, achieving much more as a consequence. For the fifth episode, Guy Wallace and I speak with Filip Lam, Head of L&D at Klarna about how his performance-oriented approach, coupled with smart technology, means he can move quickly and demonstrably add value whilst almost eliminating administration with automation. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don´t be afraid of automation. The fact it works so well elevates appreciation and demand for the L&D team. Using Filip´s approach a two-person team can facilitate training for hundreds of employees. The right LMS is essential for automation. In the podcast, Filip explains how to choose the right LMS for your organisation. Let your users create the training, pick the best, then tweak and use that. Making other people better should be a part of every single person´s job. That mindset results in users for whom creating training becomes second nature. If the training does not accurately reflect the way something is done in reality, it will not be effective. You cannot shortcut the research stage of L&D, but by bringing all of the stakeholders involved in a process together you can do things much faster. There is no need to wait for buy-in or the culture to change to be able to pivot for performance. You can just do it. Be laser-focused on what makes a difference. If you don´t understand the performance problem and gap you cannot have a positive impact. Don´t be afraid to challenge and organisation on what they think should be done. Standadising elements of your approach enable you to replicate your success and do so at scale. BEST MOMENTS 'In 13 months, we went from having 50 trainees on our platform to 1,950. And that is with two people in the team.' 'don't be frightened of automation, it's eliminating your admin and elevating what your humans are there to do.' 'You train the way that you want to perform.' 'You need to change your process to fit humans, not the other way around.' Sometime back while travelling in Beijing, I took this picture:The picture is a perfect tool to visualise the experiment that Anindya Ghose, who is the Heinz Riehl Chair Professor of Business at NYU’s Stern School of Business and the Director of its Masters of Business Analytics Program, and his team conducted across various cities in China. In the field experiment, they sent out ~14k mobile coupons across to ~10k users. They then tested if commuters were more likely to respond to those coupons when in the subway. The results showed that peak commuting hours were actually the best time to send a marketing coupon (and I imagine then, also a push notification for your app). It also led to some other very unique insights. Here’s a quote from the paper. The key findings indicate that commuters are about three times as likely to redeem their first mobile coupon compared to non-commuters.…suggest that enhanced receptiveness to mobile coupons is more perceivable when users obtain multiple coupons. Moreover, coupons with short expiration dates more successfully improve the response rates of commuters than do coupons with long expiration dates. -From Seizing the Commuting Moment: Contextual Targeting based on Mobile Transportation AppsThis is but one example of many which the man himself, Prof Ghose talks to us about on this episode of the Use Case podcast. On the show, we dive deep into PRACTICAL ways using which data and analytics can be used to improve business performance. Andy Lancaster is Head Of Learning at CIPD and author of the book ‘Driving Performance Through Learning', in which he charts a course for L&D that challenges traditional expectations and shows the way towards the future. In this episode, we explore the drivers of this change and how L&D can - and should - adapt to meet the needs of the modern workforce. Please note, as a special offer to listeners, the link below to purchase Andy's book will give you 15% off the cover price. KEY TAKEAWAYS What can we practically do to support the transformation of organisational learning; to really support performance improvement? - this was the question that spurred Andy to write his book. Learning and development in any organisation, private or public, should always be driving that company's performance and purpose. Performance itself is a contentious, and indeed sometimes controversial word or concept. Many believe that performance is open to interpretation, and therefore a difficult metric to measure. When preparing to write the book, there were several key themes that emerged for Andy surrounding the emerging organisational landscapes (we need to understand how organisations are changing), and foundational principles (transformational approaches to development). These manifested in three themes: Work - operational models are being disrupted everywhere. The way we approach development has to change. Workforce - There are a greater range of ages in the workforce than ever before. There is less hierarchy. Workplace - Single locations are becoming rarer these days. In Andy's experience, he has found that change is generally embraced when it comes to development, but there will always be an element that resists due to the transition to the new way of working, and the ever-evolving working environments. We need to ask what foundations look like. We need to ask what learning approaches look like. We need to think about these questions in a new way, and use technology to aid in answering. Around 50% of all Learning & Development professionals are extremely concerned with the state of their own development. Smart devices are changing the way we live. They guide us throughout our day and act as personal assistants in every way possible. We need to better understand a way in which these highly personal devices can drive our own learning and development in a revolutionary way. We need people to have more self-direction in the workplace, with a greater sense of autonomy (essential), and learning needs to be interrelated with others in that space BEST MOMENTS ‘You have to have a very compelling reason to write a book' 'Performance is not a contentious word' ‘Unless you paint a compelling vision, change is a very difficult concept to go with' ‘We've got to think about a bigger vision' ‘People want to change. We have to be modern learners ourselves' ‘It's now about creating not fixed dishes, but buffet menus' 'Self direction is what really motivates us' ‘I dream of painting and then I paint my dream' 'The best way to predict the future is to create it' ABOUT THE GUEST Andy Lancaster has more than 25 years' experience in learning and organisational development in commercial, technological and not-for-profit organisations and has also worked as a consultant. HR Happy Hour 170 - Driving Performance with Technology Recorded Thursday August 15, 2013 This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, Steve Boese sat down with Tom Porter, Director of Human Resources and Administration, Kawasaki Motors Corporation, U.S.A, and David Ludlow, Global Vice President of Product Marketing, HCM Solutions for SAP and SuccessFactors for an interesting and informative conversation about how HR Technology can help transform organizational performance, and impact and change the actual culture of the organization as well. At Kawasaki, Tom led an ambitious project to drive consistent performance management, goal setting and alignment, and more broadly - to get the organization much more focused on demonstrable and measurable performance measures. Tom shares some of the project drivers, the organizational imperatives, and perhaps most importantly some of the lessons learned and critical success criteria that need to be in place for any HR Technology projects to truly deliver on their promises. I won't spoil it for you, but rest assured that openness, transparency, and true partnerships between customer and supplier are key, and both Tom and David offer some excellent pieces of advice for any organization on the path towards technology implementation and transformation. It is a really informative and 'front lines' kind of conversation that sheds some light on an organization that has done and continues to do what many others only aspire towards. Thanks to both Tom and David for taking the time to share their insights!
