Three young professionals look ahead [01:00]To celebrate the 190th anniversary of the founding of the Chartered Institute of Building, we speak to three young CIOB people from around the world – members of the Tomorrow's Leaders network – about the one thing they'd like to change about the industry and how the CIOB can help with that. This stimulating exchange features:• Tadiwa Taimu, 23, a junior project manager building a retirement complex in Cape Town, South Africa;• Ziad Abdeen, 25, a contracts engineer working on various projects in Dubai; and• Dr Hamza Momade, 31, a construction project manager with Roni Group in Toronto, and professor of construction management at Ontario's Durham College.Michael Brown looks back [13:37]Many will remember Michael Brown, educator, industry diplomat, and former CIOB deputy chief executive. In 1966, he was one of the first people ever to enrol in the brand new BSc in Building at Lanchester Polytechnic, now Coventry University. That degree became the foundation of construction management education ever since. He tells us how exotic he was as a graduate on site, what construction and the Institute were like before email, and suggests a few missions the CIOB might take on in its next 190 years.Data-led construction [21:47]The CIOB's Royal Charter obliges it to promote the science and practice of building for the public benefit, so Justin Stanton is here to ask industry leaders how data can facilitate higher-performance construction.Diving into this are:• Paul Drayton, head of digital for Europe at Laing O'Rourke;• Gareth Handley, director of operations at Wates Group;• Andy Steele, strategic adviser and former chief executive of Osborne; and• Paul Bamforth, head of global strategic accounts at Buildots.

Durham College, a public college in Ontario, Canada, has disavowed the pro-Hamas comments of student Sahar Shehadeh. Her viral social media post shared how "very proud" of Hamas she was and how she "would love it" if they attacked Israel again.  White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby blasted leftists for claiming that Israel was committing a “genocide” against Palestinians inside Gaza, noting that Hamas was the genocidal entity, not Israel. Former troops are suing the U.S. government for lost pay and benefits due to the Biden administration's military vaccine mandate, one of the lawyers who successfully brought down the Anthrax vaccine told Breitbart News. PayPal quietly closed a Gaza fundraising account benefiting an Israeli-designated terrorist organization after facing pressure from a legal watchdog group, while the credit card processor Stripe launched an internal investigation into the same campaign, the Washington Examiner has learned. Pro-Palestinian protesters descended on the Yale Bowl on Saturday, but a few counter-protesters were also on hand. Though Newsom lacks the power to end capital punishment in California, he could take executive action to commute the sentences of the roughly 700 condemned awaiting execution in in the state—a death row figure that dwarfs those of all other American states. The House Republicans are inching closer to filing articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ontario has a new housing minister following Steve Clark's resignation yesterday. How will this shuffle change the way messaging gets sent out from the government and will there be much of a shift in the Greenbelt debacle and how it's being handled? Guest: Sabrina Nanji, Publisher of the Queen's Park Observer - A lot of Canadians are deciding to buy homes together rather than on their own. Is co-owning a house with a parent, sibling or friend even a good idea? Guset: Karen Yolevski, Chief Operating Officer for Royal LePage - Many companies are calling employees back into the office which is being met with mixed reactions. While some love working from home, others seem to thrive while on site. How might that be what delineates your ability to work remotely vs. in person? Guest: Dr. Nita Chhinzer, Associate Professor of Leadership & Organizational Management with the University of Guelph - After 18 years, it would appear that we'll be getting new music from The Rolling Stones as they get set to release their new studio album, 'Hackney Diamonds'. As the average age of the Stones approaches 80, is there even a desire for new music from them? Guest: Lou Molinaro, Instructor at Durham College and the Harris Institute for Music
