And when we are attuned, when we are plugged in, when we are actually centered, our heart is expanded and open. It literally, not figuratively, gives everything around us a biological update.” “I think there are a lot of podcasts that give people a lot of steps and they don't stick. And the reason they don't stick is because when the identity is still unworthiness… It's very difficult for that to actually create a way in which we will DO differently.” “We often don't give ourselves permission to just be in the process of becoming a master of something…. part of the gift in beginning something is growing through it and giving yourself grace.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Free 3-Day Manifest Your Most Abundant Year Challenge Use coupon code: "MARIZA" for 50% off the VIP level! Is this weekly newsletter typically about fitness? Not really. Not physical fitness anyway. But when fitness and health impact your peace and happiness, then of course it relates to peace and possibilities. Which, incidentally, is almost all of the time. My guest this week, Erin Stutland, is full of great ideas to get your life and body moving in the right direction. The first is to consider which core values you were born with. Then strive to align those values with your passions. Sounds simple, I know. It actually is, if you get quiet for a few minutes and just ask yourself a few questions. Then - and this is the most important part - go for it! Take those risks to get what you want. How else will you get there? And when you are rejected, and you will be, ask yourself "what's the learning or growing I need to do?" And, as Erin so beautifully put it, obsession does not equal a solution. Obsessing about a problem, worrying about it, stressing about it, is not the same as figuring out the solution. If it was, stress and worry would always lead to peace and clarity. But it doesn't. It leads to more stress. And as many wise people have told us: failure is a part of success, not the opposite of success. Remember, when taking risks and trying to figure it all out: As Brad Yates says: whenever we make a choice, two outcomes are possible; neither is final or permanent. Decide, take the risk, maybe get rejected. And then choose something else. Get used to this; this is life! My guest this episode is the lovely Erin Stutland, creator of The Movement and author of the book Mantras in Motion (and genius behind one of my absolute faborite ways to move, the Soul Stroll!)
When I first came across Erin Stutland's work, it was that awesome feeling of, "Where has this been all my life?!"Like, WHAAAA, someone put together affirmations with aerobics?? SIGN ME THE F UP. I have been an aerobics girl since Margaret Richards and Denise Austin** back in the DAY— and as much shade as I like to throw on affirmations sometimes, I do enjoy them when they’re done well and not from a place of trying to eradicate all “negative” thoughts/feelings.Erin delivers on all of that and more, so I’ve been following her work (and doing her workouts and meditations) for years. I finally decided it was about damn time to ask her to come on the podcast, and I was delighted when she said yes!We had a lovely conversation about the power of thought AND movement, especially when combined with intention.Head here for full show notes including links to Erin's work and stuff mentioned in the intro!

With the uprise of conscious parenting, there is a movement happening where the parents of the new generation are understanding their influence in even the most mundane aspects of life. As more and more people do the work, we begin to heal the generations to come through conscious action and awareness as to how these children are affected. It's about doing the subconscious work within and without. We are also seeing through various online platforms how we are able to build community and share the medicine with a larger crowd than ever before. The way you speak to yourself has power. Getting closer to our dreams, resistance and negative self talk can come up to the surface, but it takes a level of awareness to shift how you can begin to see things differently. Success starts with the mind and since we are having to navigate through this new paradigm of business and living in the Golden Era, it's critical for you to honor your needs, your body, and your overall health and well-being. Each of us has the power to manifest what it is we truly desire. To get there, we must be willing to have a healthy relationship with all facets of our hue-man experience. Along the journey, things and thoughts may arise, but it's up to you to decide the trajectory of your life and how you choose to experience and interpret what's arising along the way. #095 — Creating ‘Mantras in Motion’ as a Dancer, Teacher, and Entrepreneur Mantras can be powerful in helping us reprogram our thinking. Yet, many of us have a hard time making them stick. So, how do we rewire our brains to make affirmations part of our conscious programming? Erin Stutland’s background in dance combined with her interest in personal development and grew into a practice of ‘mantras in motion.’ She couples positive self-talk with movement to strengthen body AND mind in tandem, and the pairing makes affirmations ‘sticky.’ A concept like courage evolves from an intellectual idea to a physiological sensation: We feel it in our body and it becomes a part of us. Today, Erin joins me to share her journey from artist to entrepreneur, explaining how working as a dancer and actor prepared her to run her own business and what inspired her transition to full-time entrepreneur. Erin discusses her journey to motherhood in her late 30’s, offering insight around her empowering experience with IVF, the emotion of being on camera while your body is changing, and the impact of pregnancy on her body image and identity. She also describes her initial ambivalence about becoming a mother and how much she is loving the role thus far. Erin Stutland is an author, coach and an entrepreneur who has helped many people connect with their inner self through movement. After years of yo-yo dieting, exercising only for weight loss, and struggling with self-confidence, she longed to figure out how to treat herself with consistent love and respect. Erin was tired of thinking “I wasn’t (fill in the blank) enough.” So, she dove deep into studying psychology, spirituality, meditation and more in hopes to change this internal conversation to one that uplifted and inspired her daily. But still, with all the tools out there, Erin felt as though something was missing. How does self-love, kindness, confidence, and compassion become ‘muscle memory’ rather than afterthoughts or just another intellectual idea? Can we use our bodies to fortify our belief in self and tap into a deeper sense of strength and courage? When you put the mind and body in motion, they begin to heal themselves. It’s the reason she wrote her NEW book Mantras in Motion: Manifesting What You Want Through Mindful Movement. She is passionate about shifting the way we think about exercise, so it is not a punishment, but rather an opportunity to step into your power. Furthermore, she wants to see people like you living BIG lives, unafraid to go after your dreams while you are filled with happiness, love and abundance. Erin believes being connected to your body is essential to achieving this. How did you come about writing this book? Erin’s background is in dance and so she has been a mover ever since her childhood. She grew up as a dancer and later went to college to study dance. It has always been in her focus. When she was a freshman in college, her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This was devastating news for Erin and she was caught up in confusion. This happened twenty years ago and it rocked Erin’s world in a way she did not expect. She was on her own and would question every day if her mother would make it through her disease. During this phase, Erin says she came across a kind of darkness she had never experienced before. It was around that time that Erin went to see a therapist who helped get through this phase in her life. Her therapist recommended her medication but Erin refused to take any sort of medication. She wanted to figure this out without any sort of medication. Erin thinks she learned a lot from her mother who despite the continuous pain and agony from her diseases never gave up. She would always look at the bright side. Erin believes this set her on the path of controlling her mindset and her perspective. It was at that time she came across a book called The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino. Soon, Erin felt a positivity in her life and realized her happiness and emotions are all linked to how she perceives things in her life. How do you think a change in physiology creates a change in our minds? Erin talks about a typical example of a workout and when it gets hard, we start to have an inner dialogue with ourselves. At that moment, our mind goes to a couple of different places. It will go to complaining, it will go to doubting yourself or some other limiting thought. Every time we give up doing something or feel like our body cannot take it anymore, it all stems from our mind giving up first. What has been a negative belief in your life that you had to work on? One of the beliefs that Erin thinks held her back was around the time she started to run her own business. She started her business by conducting small workshops throughout New York City. They were very intimate yet very powerful. Erin wanted to expand her business and reach more people outside the New York city wellness world. She had no idea though how to expand her business. She realized she had a limiting belief that she could only have an impact on other people’s lives if she was in the same room as them. Do you have a process that you take people through in order for them to be able to manifest? Erin’s book deeply talks about the process through which she takes people in her work. The first step in manifesting is to be clear about what you want to achieve and tuning into your deepest desires. A lot of time we don’t allow ourselves to feel our desires and wants. The second step is then looking at your belief around the desire. You need to see if your beliefs are aligned with your desire. The third step is to take some inspired action. We have to find what actions can help us achieve our goals. The fourth step to be able to manifest is to move into the space of allowing and accepting. There needs to be a little bit of letting go. What is the best advice you have ever been given? The best advice she has ever been given is to keep taking actions, in particular when it comes to business. It is very easy to get stuck when starting a new business but you need to keep going. This is something that has helped Erin not only in her business but also in her life. What is your current mantra for your personal life? The mantra Erin always comes back to is the following: “I am tuned in, I am in the flow, I have all that I need, the rest I let go.” Sometimes there is just so much going around in our lives and in those moments we really need to keep things simple, deal with one thing at a time and have an inner belief that we have the ability or potential to get things done. Lightbulb Moment: Business Breakthroughs and Personal Discoveries with Becky Mollenkamp
Dancing brought Erin Stutland unlimited joy when she was a schoolgirl. It quickly turned to pressure, however, when she majored in it during college. Her world was further rocked in the second semester of her freshman year, when her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Soon, Erin was overwhelmed and in the throes of depression. A therapist recommended antidepressants, but Erin had a different idea. Her mother was dealing with chemotherapy through tai chi and meditation, and Erin soon discovered she could change her thoughts. Mindfulness became Erin’s passion and calling. Today she creates programs and writes books that help others discover the power of healthy, thoughtful movement. In the same way that somebody once combined peanut butter and jelly to make a flavor combination arguably more desirable than sex, and in the same way another person combined a leggings with jeans to give our fashion-forward legs some freedom, my guest today has combined metaphysics with physical fitness in a way that can pretty much most def help you get things that you desire. Erin Stutland has created a method of combining movement with mindfulness in an actually do-able, not too woowoo-able way. Erin is an author of the upcoming book “Mantras In Motion: Manifesting What You Want Through Mindful Movement,” a fitness coach and creator of the Shrink Session program, the TV show host of Z Living’s cable series, Altar’d, all about true and lasting transformation. I’ve gotta say that this here chat with Erin has had a true and lasting impact on me. Kind of like how once you discover how harmoniously PB&J go together, or once you try on jeggings, you can’t UNtaste PB&J or smile as you put on regular jeans, after hearing Erin’s strategies for paying attention to what the heckers you say to yourself while you’re working out, you won’t be able to NOT sweet talk yourself through your next sweat sesh. Get psyched to hear: Why mantras* are so powerful How combining mantras with movement is legit magic *WTF a “mantra” actually is and how to hook yourself up with your own A story that straight up proves manifestation How and why it’s ok to push yourself to exercise The weirdest and most surface level about a coat Why it’s weirdly tricky business figuring out what we actually desire A realistic way to get on the mantra + movement train right this second Some tough love for my sister to get into a sweat habit (!!!) I’m thrilled to share this episode of the Mother’s Quest Podcast with mother, coach, entrepreneur and mind-body wellness expert Erin Stutland. Through her signature Shrink Session workouts and Soul Strolls, which combine principles from dance, yoga, meditation and more, Erin helps over 70,000 people in 155 countries to transform negative thinking into possibility and tap into their own inner strength. I bring this episode to you as I participate in Erin’s free five day movement and mantra challenge. I first discovered this challenge three years ago, and ever since, her inspiring videos have become a key part of my morning practice. So, it was surreal in the best way, when I had the opportunity to talk live with Erin about movement, motherhood and her own E.P.I.C. life. The ability to embody leadership, to create movement in our bodies and our lives, is the gift that Erin brings to all those she reaches through her products, programs, and soon-to-be-published book Mantras in Motion. In this conversation, I loved learning about how Erin developed these gifts from an early age, growing up in Chicago where her own mother allowed her the freedom and permission to move, play and pursue her passion for dance. Recently a mother herself, Erin brings this awareness and the gift of movement to her own baby daughter. There was a lightness and grounding quality in talking with Erin that I so appreciated, as we explored everything from the lesson she learned about leadership while shepherding goats in Israel to how she brought her whole self and integrity to hosting a reality television show. I was grateful to be immersed in Erin’s perspective and challenge this week, which coincided with our mid-term elections in the United States. On election day in particular, I noticed my anxiety rising, and was able to consciously transform Erin’s movement mantra of the morning “This is my time,” to “This is our time,” envisioning the progressive leaders I supported successfully winning their elections. That invitation to change my “inner landscape” as Erin calls it, through mantra and movement, made a huge difference in my outlook. A day later as I record this, I’m sitting with mixed feelings about the outcome of the election, but also a determination to move into action. I hope after listening today, that you, like me, are inspired by the lessons Erin has shared with us and the gift of her Soul Stroll, to get moving and stay moving toward the change in our lives and in our country that we seek. Much appreciation, P.S. Know someone who you think would appreciate this episode? Push forward and share this conversation! In This Episode We Talk About: Favorite mantras that Erin and I brought to this episode as our intentions for the conversation. The importance of guiding from behind and moving our own egos out of the way when we parent (and what this has to do with goats!) The power of MOVEMENT in our lives and the impact of shifting our inner landscapes. How using movement can help us be more present for our children. Why a body at rest stays at rest, and moving is often the last thing we want to do. But, our lack of desire to get moving is not a reflection of how we’ll feel once we get going. Bringing consciousness to how we invest and care for ourselves and why it’s natural to make different kinds of investments at different times in our lives. Erin Stutland is a mind-body wellness and fitness expert, and host and life-style coach of Z Living’s cable series, Altar’d. I first met Erin through her signature Shrink Session workout (for which I’m an affiliate partner), and love her approach to creating change in your life through movement – or as Erin says “movement in your body creates movement in your life.” As a new mama and soon to be published author, Erin’s life has changed a bit since the last time we talked; so I invited her on the podcast to talk about her new book, Mantras In Motion (being published by Hay House in January 2019), why she believes that combining words with movement is the key to creating change in your life, and how becoming a mom changed what she does to feel well, but not her definition of being well. Get out and move. Even if it’s just a 20 minute walk. Getting the fresh air and creating easy movement will create a shift in your mind and heart. Shrink Session – What can I expect, see, feel? Shrink session is a combination of cardio dance, kickboxing, HIIT workouts and yoga. Yoga meaning the mindfulness. Shrink session does that by incorporating mantras that you’re saying out loud while you are working out. The reason behind this is because it’s a practice of training your body and mind. By training in this way you’re sending the message to your mind, but because you’re also exercising your body, it’s sending a message to your body, your cells, your muscles. People may be hesitant initially, but quickly see the POWER behind it once they start their practice. People tend to have negative feelings about working out. Shrink sessions replaces the negative “it’s hard” conversations with positive thoughts. And it’s scientifically proven, that exercise becomes more enjoyable and becomes easier. How do you incorporate Shrink Session into your current fitness regime? Make a list of things that are troubling you. What you’re struggling with or are afraid of, and turn them into positive affirmations. For example: “I don’t attract clients”, into “I’m a magnet for success.” You create several mantras for yourself and have your list ready. Then you take that into your workout. So you’re doing a squat for example, with music is perfect, and use your mantra as you do your set. And use a different mantra with your next set. How to get started if you’re not in a workout regime? Start with 5 minute workout, which is available on her website. Then graduate to 10 minute workout and work yourself up to 45 minutes. When incorporated with mantras, people really take to it and are inspired. How can mother’s inspire their families? The Soul Stroll- a soundtrack with energetic music and mantra’s in Erin’s voice. Mom’s can listen to these in the home, or the car, and the kids listen to it and chanting along, and they really adopt the idea very easily. Mostly because they love to scream things.
