This is the second Welcome Episode for this podcast and along with it I'm officially changing the name of this podcast from Christian Men at Work to Jacobs Ladder and along with the name change I'm changing the focus and purpose of the podcast. The purpose of the Christian Men at Work podcast, since it first started in October of 2016, has been to inspire you to have joy and purpose in your work. I've attempted to do that in two ways. First, I've interviewed men from all walks of life, with varying job titles, who have had one thing in common, they've all chosen daily to live out their Christian faith through their work, and because of that they've been leading, prospering, glorifying God, and finding joy and purpose in their work. The second way I've tried to achieve this goal is through short messages called Selah episodes where I've shared my thoughts, usually pretty closely related to the topic of faith at work. The last episode, which was #220, was Feb 5, 2024, where I interviewed Jason Pierce talking about a Vision for Life. Up to that point, I had conducted 110 interview style episodes with the other half being Selah episodes. If you've been a listener over the years, you may have noticed a trend in recent years toward more Selah episodes as well as a departure at times from the faith at work focus. I've never gone this long, about 8 months, without producing an episode. Before I resumed the podcast again, I wanted to be sure I was both mentally and emotionally ready to do so, and I wanted to clarify the focus and purpose for the podcast before moving forward. I felt I needed to do that first so that I could be passionate about it again, so that I would be motivated to pour myself into it, and so that I could be consistent with it. During the last few years I've had two primary changes in my life. One has been a gut-wrenching, life changing personal challenge which has driven me closer to my Creator and closer to other men in friendship, particularly men that are going through similar personal challenges. The other big change in my life has been that I've changed some of my beliefs and practices which are best described as more Messianic than Christian. To quickly address that issue, I share the belief with Christians that Jesus is the Son of God, that He is the long promised Messiah, and that my salvation comes from faith in Him and His righteousness alone and not my work or good deeds. Where I defer from most Christians is that I believe it's God's will for us to follow His law, including the Torah or first 5 books of the Bible, as well as the Prophets and Writings (i.e. Old Testament) out of love towards Him and not out of obligation or to earn salvation. In practical terms that means I observe the 7 Feasts rather than Christmas and Easter, I follow the dietary laws, I observe Sabbath on day 7 and not day 1 and other things that are usually practiced by observant Jews. You could say that I differ from Christians by following the the Law and I differ from Jews by following Jesus and I believe we should do both. If you've been listening in recent years you've probably noted those two changes in my life through the messages I've been sharing. When I started this Podcast I had just gone through a major challenge in my life where I had gone bankrupt from chasing get-rich-quick schemes and not having a biblical approach towards work and finances. I had, at the same time, gone through some other personal challenges but I felt led to write a book called Jesus is at Work dealing with the faith at work issue, and write a blog on the same topic. Soon after that, I switched from blogging to podcasting. I still feel passionate about incorporating my faith into my work. I love my job more than ever, and I am very thankful for it. I believe my work at my job is part of my purpose here on earth. I want to continue to weave into this podcast the faith at work theme and I want to continue to focus primarily on men. However, moving forward I will be broadening the focus. What is the new focus? Well, you could summarize it by a Beatles song "All you need is love", but seriously, love is the simplest way for me to summarize where I want the focus to be. Specifically, I want to talk about loving God, loving others and loving ourselves, at work and at home. Without love, having faith at work or in our personal lives doesn't mean anything, in my opinion. It's no coincidence that this is basically what Jesus, who I normally call Yeshua, said summarizes the two greatest commandments, upon which hang all the law and the prophets. It's also a paraphrase of the Sh'ma, which Jewish people in their synagogues and Messianics in their congregations recite every Shabbat. I chose as the new title for this podcast Jacobs Ladder, which was recommended by a dear friend. The intent of that title is to provide an image of an intimate connection between God and man, without which we have no hope of connecting with or loving others or ourselves. Here are a few other changes I'd like to implement moving forward. I want to continue the practice of having both interviews as well as my own personal musings. For interviews, the format will be very similar to what it's been in the past, though the topics will of course be more in line with the new focus of the podcast. For my personal musing episodes, I'm going to call them PPP episodes, which stands for purposeful pondering with praise. I became increasingly uncomfortable over time with my use of the term Selah in the past. The original intent was to invite the listener to ponder on the thoughts I was sharing. However, the musings are just one man's opinions which may or may not be prompted by the Holy Spirit and certainly not inspired in the sense that scripture is breathed from God. Therefore, I no longer want to use that term Selah and to leave that for its hallowed used within the Psalms. Through the new acronym PPP, I want to remind myself to keep my ponderings purposeful, in other words I want them to help you to make a change in your life, if you feel it applies to you, either in your thoughts or your actions. I don't want to just talk for talking's sake. The third P is a reminder to incorporate some form of praise into every pondering and to always try to make it about our Creator and not about me or you. I'm not making any promises at this time as to how often I'll be releasing episodes or how the mix will be between interviews and ponderings. I'd like to commit to both of those so you know what to expect, but at this time I prefer to keep my options open. Wondering about that question has been one of the reasons I've waited so long to bring this podcast back to life and so I don't want that to prevent me from doing so any longer. Whether you're a long time or first time listener, whether you're more focused on work or personal, and whether you consider yourself Christian, Messianic, Jewish or something else, I welcome you to the Jacobs Ladder podcast. I'm excited about this new beginning and I'm looking forward to the adventure we'll be going on together.

Loving our Children, or Loving Ourselves
Show Notes:I don't really have a personal story to share specifically about this topic, except that I am a recovering people pleaser. But I did take a moment to reflect on how I often would love others more than myself, but I rarely saw that reflected back. And that doesn't lead me to be upset or even disappointed, but it does prove that self-awareness allows you to see things on a deeper level than normal. I never even noticed this while I was a hard-core people pleaser, but it's easy to spot now. And something that would cause me to pause & better understand why it wasn't happening, and hopefully pull away from the behavior because I realize it's not the healthiest choice.Loving ourselves just as much as we love others is necessary to our mental well-being. Anyone that struggles with self-worth or is a people pleaser WILL struggle with this, but I KNOW you can do it. I believe I can do it, but only if we keep at it & don't give up on this challenge.I as doing research for my affirmation/manifestation book when I came across this idea of needing to love ourselves just as much as we love others. And, like you might imagine if you know me, it stopped me in my tracks & I needed to really think about it. I needed to think about how important this was, how so many people need this reminder on a regular basis and how I don't do this at all. And if I don't do this, that means there are so many other people that don't do this either. The importance of loving ourselves as much as we love others is to develop a positive self-image, strong self-esteem and build up our self-worth. Have you ever noticed that when we love someone, we WANT to take care of them & make sure they feel the love & support? This is also how we need to be with ourselves. We need to love ourselves so we WANT to take care of ourselves & prioritize our needs and make ourselves feel our own love & support.Like I mentioned in the beginning, we often struggle with loving and even accepting ourselves because we lack self-worth, might have low self-esteem, be wrapped up in people pleasing, deal with trauma that has affected all these things & our ability to see ourselves as something more than broken, the list goes on. But we CAN overcome these things. We just have to do the work.In the next episode, I will share with you HOW you can start loving yourself more to get to the point of loving yourself just as much as you love others. But today, we are going to talk about the importance and benefits of loving ourselves just as much as we love others. Here are 5 Benefits of Loving Ourselves to the Fullest:Increase in Mental & Emotional Well-Being Better Self-Esteem & Self-ConfidenceOur Relationships Get Better We Take Care of Our Bodies More Increase in Fulfillment & PurposeSupport the showSupport the Show on Patreon: patreon.com/realpositivegirlBuy the Planner on AMAZON!: https://amzn.to/3WwthT2Visit me on Instagram or TikTok: @sabrinajoyperozzoTwitter: @realsabrinajoyEmail Me: realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com Sign up for my weekly newsletter https://www.sabrinajoy.com/newsletterCashApp Show Donations: $sabrinaperozzo

February is the month of love. And this month I really wanted to shift the focus to LOVING OURSELVES. Self care, body love/acceptance, compassion. All the things that embrace loving ourselves and treating ourselves with care. If you are part of the book club, you've probably noticed that this month's picks are all kind of geared toward that idea. To get a list of the book picks for February and to join the club you can go to www.jessielarson.com/bookclubOkay, so the topic of today's conversation is ways to love your body. And when you clicked on the title you might have been thinking: Hmmm……what? I've got a radical idea, that you're probably going to have some hesitation with, but I think you, me, all of us, we should all spend more time naked. That's right sans clothes, in the nude, embrace the birthday suit….N.A.K.E.D naked. GULP. Ok, deep breaths and don't click out of this episode. Now before you think I am running away to a secluded island and trying to recruit everyone to a nudist colony…..hear me out. I want you to Think back to a time when you fell in love something or someone. Got it? Okay, Now, think about how much TIME you spent with them/that. I'm guessing it was a lot. Quality time/quantity time. As you spent time falling in love you learned things, noticed things, started to appreciate certain things…..and you can to all this, and fall more in love with that beautiful body of yours, by spending TIME with it. Okay, so I first said time naked….but let's put a pin in this for a minute and jump to some more beginner friendly ways to spend time with your body. Ways to Spend TIME with Your Body and Fall More in Love: 1. Movement: movement is magical for appreciating and loving your body. Find ways to move that make you feel good. That help you appreciate you body. This is the opposite of working out to the point of exhaustion and trying to change every little thing about your body. This type of movement helps you feel grateful for the VESSEL that allows you to experience life. 2. Pamper Yourself/Take care of you/ Make it feel good: As moms, sometimes our self care game comes dead last. Plan some time to more intentionally take care of yourself. Instead of just a quick shower, or dry shampoo….splurge on some really fun bath products. Take time to exfoliate instead of just the quickest shower ever. Get creative with other ways to help your body feel good. 3. Dress it up How much better do you feel when you take the time to get dressed? Don't ignore what you wear UNDER your clothes Check out Episode 19- How Getting Into The Right Bra Size Can Change Your Life to listen to my favorite bra and boob expert and how the right one can make you feel like a million bucks.Stop waiting for a special occasion. Every day is a special occasion. Wear things that make you feel good (even if you don't run into anyone at Target) 4. Take it all offYou don't have to spend the whole day in the nude, but maybe just take longer to get dressed when getting ready, and actually LOOK at yourself in the mirror while you get ready. Intentionally look at and embrace the parts of your body that you love. Try to stay away from nit-picking (note: this will be hard, but gets easier as you do it). Give yourself a compliment ( or even just a wink and a smile) while you look at yourself. Lingerie for you (not for your partner). Throw on some lingerie that isn't just going to end up on the floor. Grab something that highlights a part of your body that you love and wear it for you! I had SUCH an overwhelming response to the first episode of 2022 "Resolve to Love Yourself". Thank you. So, we pick up from our 'ditching New Years Resolutions' as I check in to see how you're doing AND I offer a few thoughts in continuing the conversation of Loving Ourselves; which even that can be a bit stressful in the process. Listen in as we continue this journey of looking deeper into ourselves.
Loving Ourselves into Healing - Part 3 - We are often at war with our difficult emotions—judging and hating ourselves for our fear, anger, clinging or shame. And as a society, we turn on others as lesser or bad, as the enemy. These talks explore how, in both domains, our continued evolution, healing and freedom depends on learning how to embrace what we have pushed away.

I'm excited to welcome you to a special episode of the Mother's Quest Podcast that I am extremely grateful for, just in time for Thanksgiving, featuring the amazing Julie Lythcott-Haims and my 17-year-old son Ryan Neale. Julie is an incredible mother to two, a former Stanford Dean and New York Times bestselling author of the anti-helicopter parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult, which gave rise to a TED Talk that has more than 5 million views. Her second book is the critically-acclaimed and award-winning prose poetry memoir Real American, which illustrates her experience as a Black and biracial person in white spaces. I'm so fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview Julie for the podcast several years ago when that book was first released. When I heard about Julie's new book Your Turn: How to Be an Adult, I knew I wanted to invite her back to the podcast again. And, I hoped that my son Ryan, on the threshold of adulthood himself, would join us in the conversation. The stars aligned and Ryan was available the day of the interview, enabling Julie, Ryan, and I to explore the concepts of her book, about navigating adulthood and embracing our differences, especially our neurodiversity, in deeply personal and relevant ways. In this episode, I'm also excited to share a dedication from Deborah Reber, former podcast guest, fellow mother on a quest, and host of the TiLT Parenting Podcast.Deborah's heart-felt dedication honors Julie and other mothers raising neurodivergent children. I could not agree more with Deborah's assessment about what an exceptional human Julie is, about the power of Julie's commitment to put the stories of a diverse group of young people with different identities on the pages of her book, and about the impact of Julie's work for normalizing and honoring differences. As you hear our conversation unfold, I know you'll be as struck as I was by Julie's wisdom and humility as she talks with Ryan, helping him to understand that he deserves to be cherished for who he is, that he can approach things like writing in ways that work for his differently-wired mind, and that he can seek out environments, like college, that enables him to play to his strengths and allow him to thrive. Since our conversation, Ryan was able to take Julie's advice to heart, using voice to text without shame to write his personal statement for college applications and sharing his personal insights on a panel at the recent Stanford Neurodiversity Summit. You can follow the link in the show notes to listen. Finally, this conversation is a demonstration that there is no destination to becoming an adult, but an ongoing journey of learning and discovery, that parents and their children can support one another in reciprocity with curiosity, and that we can all benefit from asking ourselves the question from Mary Oliver's famous poem, that Julie gives us as our challenge, “What is it that we want to do with our one wild and precious life?”As we approach Thanksgiving, the five-year birthday of the launch of Mother's Quest, and my 50th birthday, I can say there is nothing I'd rather do than hold space for a conversation like this one and share it with you. About Julie: Julie Lythcott-Haims believes in humans and is deeply interested in what gets in our way. She is the New York Times bestselling author of the anti-helicopter parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult which gave rise to a TED Talk that has more than 5 million views. Her second book is the critically-acclaimed and award-winning prose poetry memoir Real American, which illustrates her experience as a Black and biracial person in white spaces. A third book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult, is out now. Julie is a former corporate lawyer and Stanford dean, and she holds a BA from Stanford, a JD from Harvard, and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. She serves on the board of Common Sense Media, and on the advisory board of LeanIn.Org, and she is a former board member at Foundation for a College Education, Global Citizen Year, The Writers Grotto, and Challenge Success. She volunteers with the hospital program No One Dies Alone. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her partner of over thirty years, their itinerant young adults, and her mother. Connect with Julie: Website Twitter Instagram LinkedIn About RyanRyan Neale is a neurodivergent 12th Grader from San Mateo, California. His parents discovered he was differently wired when he was 18 months old but he has been in fully mainstream education for his academic career, with most people around him not knowing about some of the struggles that he faces. His experiences publicly masking his neuro differences have given him a unique perspective on many of the struggles neurodiverse people face, such as public stigma, ableism, and the ever-present desire to fit in. As he has begun advocating more for his needs, he has high hopes to use his perspective and communication skills to increase public understanding of neurodiversity, and hopefully create a more inclusive society for everyone. In his free time, he enjoys playing varsity basketball for his high school team, coaching youth sports, roughhousing with his little brother, and diving headfirst into his many fantasy special interests. He is thrilled to have participated in this fall's Stanford Neurodiversity Summit on a K-12 student panel. You can listen to the panel here. Connect with Ryan: Instagram Topics Discussed in this Episode: How Julie's experience listening to students as a Stanford Dean and raising her own children led her to write a book about young adults The painful admission Julie shared about overlooking her own son Sawyer's challenges with ADHD and anxiety and the poignant moment when her son acknowledged Julie's shift in understanding him The ways that Ryan identifies as neurodivergent, how he has adapted, and the pain he has experienced trying to fit in a neurotypical world Julie's advice to Ryan about embracing who he is Her recommendation of the book Normal Sucks by Jonathan Mooney The revelations parents can take from Julie's book How to help young adults figure out what next steps to take on their path to becoming an adult The lessons Julie has personally gained from writing her books Julie's words of wisdom for Ryan on how to move through his resistance of writing by trying methods that might work better for his differences and strengths The biggest takeaway that Julie learned in her research and in her own journey writing the book about how to be vulnerable and connected and open to the support of others so that you don't have to feel alone Julie's challenge for all of us that can help us live our best lives as adults Resources and Topics Mentioned: Ep 52: Third Chapters, Raising Adults, and Loving Ourselves with Julie Lythcott-Haims Normal Sucks by Jonathan Mooney Julie's books Julie's Ted talk This Episode's Challenge: Ask yourself the question from Mary Oliver's famous poem, “what do I want to do with this one wild and precious life?” Explore what would you do if it was only up to you...if nobody else's opinion really mattered. Go to a quiet place, a shower, out in nature, or on a hammock and ask yourself "What is the work that brings me joy? What are the places and spaces where I feel valued and seen?" The Law of Vibration is a universal law which states that everything moves. It doesn't matter whether you look at the smallest particle to the biggest galaxy, everything in this universe is always in motion. I'm sure that this law is not new to many of you, but have you ever wondered how this is used? The Law of Vibration explains how we've come to be exactly where we are today, what is the origin of all that we perceive, and how we can use our mind to change our state of being. This is a must-listen for anyone who is ready to break free from those self imposed limits that we talk about in Gye-Nyame. This law will also help you understand how society is manipulating you as well. The Law of Vibration is a powerful law that can be used to explore the relationship between our mind and body; how we can use the power of our thoughts and feelings to change and create who we are and what we see around us. As we focus on things like: Finding Love, Persuading Another Person, Loving Ourselves, Having More Faith, Changing Attitudes, Remembering More Easily, Feeling Younger & Stronger; we begin to see nearly immediate results as we change the vibrational frequencies in our minds and within our bodies.

We can be very discouraged when we believe that we must become perfect. Learn the true meaning of becoming perfect, and learn how we can become perfect being our selves. Most of all, learn to see the perfection that exists all around you, to enjoy a perfectly imperfect life.
Episode #45: A New Season. Loving Ourselves and Our Relationships. Welcome back! I begin the second season with some news about the podcast. For this week, InannaMoon discusses loving relationships and how we treat ourselves in those relationships. The most important relationship we have is with the self. All others are mirrors. Loving ourselves and others takes self-esteem, thoughtful inner understanding, and a desire for progressive change to embody our whole beautiful beings. We have it within us! Remember, to tune in to the podcast every TWO weeks now! See upcoming events at: inannamoon.com. Follow Cruising in the Light and Shadow on iTunes, Stitcher, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!
It is sometimes easier to love other people than to love ourselves. This episode explores what it means to learn to love ourselves. Exploring Jesus' words in the Gospel of John - "I am the light of the world" - we draw practical lessons on what that may mean for us to be more self-accepting, and to celebrate who we are as a child of God
I’m thrilled to share this episode of the Mother’s Quest Podcast with mother, coach, entrepreneur and mind-body wellness expert Erin Stutland. Through her signature Shrink Session workouts and Soul Strolls, which combine principles from dance, yoga, meditation and more, Erin helps over 70,000 people in 155 countries to transform negative thinking into possibility and tap into their own inner strength. I bring this episode to you as I participate in Erin’s free five day movement and mantra challenge. I first discovered this challenge three years ago, and ever since, her inspiring videos have become a key part of my morning practice. So, it was surreal in the best way, when I had the opportunity to talk live with Erin about movement, motherhood and her own E.P.I.C. life. The ability to embody leadership, to create movement in our bodies and our lives, is the gift that Erin brings to all those she reaches through her products, programs, and soon-to-be-published book Mantras in Motion. In this conversation, I loved learning about how Erin developed these gifts from an early age, growing up in Chicago where her own mother allowed her the freedom and permission to move, play and pursue her passion for dance. Recently a mother herself, Erin brings this awareness and the gift of movement to her own baby daughter. There was a lightness and grounding quality in talking with Erin that I so appreciated, as we explored everything from the lesson she learned about leadership while shepherding goats in Israel to how she brought her whole self and integrity to hosting a reality television show. I was grateful to be immersed in Erin’s perspective and challenge this week, which coincided with our mid-term elections in the United States. On election day in particular, I noticed my anxiety rising, and was able to consciously transform Erin’s movement mantra of the morning “This is my time,” to “This is our time,” envisioning the progressive leaders I supported successfully winning their elections. That invitation to change my “inner landscape” as Erin calls it, through mantra and movement, made a huge difference in my outlook. A day later as I record this, I’m sitting with mixed feelings about the outcome of the election, but also a determination to move into action. I hope after listening today, that you, like me, are inspired by the lessons Erin has shared with us and the gift of her Soul Stroll, to get moving and stay moving toward the change in our lives and in our country that we seek. Much appreciation, P.S. Know someone who you think would appreciate this episode? Push forward and share this conversation! In This Episode We Talk About: Favorite mantras that Erin and I brought to this episode as our intentions for the conversation. The importance of guiding from behind and moving our own egos out of the way when we parent (and what this has to do with goats!) The power of MOVEMENT in our lives and the impact of shifting our inner landscapes. How using movement can help us be more present for our children. Why a body at rest stays at rest, and moving is often the last thing we want to do. But, our lack of desire to get moving is not a reflection of how we’ll feel once we get going. Bringing consciousness to how we invest and care for ourselves and why it’s natural to make different kinds of investments at different times in our lives. This week’s episode is a deep one — we’re talking about self love. So what is self love? Well, it’s literally LOVING OURSELVES! So why do we need to talk about this?! Well, because like you, I struggle with kicking myself when I am down. If I have a bad meal (hey, sometimes I need those damn french fries!) I end up kicking myself over the meal, rather than thinking about how tasty the meal was and how much I enjoyed my family time, I go home upset at myself over the fact that I couldn’t just not eat the damn french fries! I then internally yell at myself for not cooking my own meal (even though I cook ALL OF THE TIME), and constantly put myself down! The negative feelings are something I need to get over! TURN THOSE NEGATIVES INTO POSITIVES! So HOW do you do that?! Anyways — whether its food, fitness, family, friends, whatever! there is nothing more important than LOVING YOURSELF! Let’s talk about it TOGETHER on Episode 2 of THRIVE now!
Pauline talks about the internal changes we can focus on during Menopause, learning to forgive and love ourselves, developing our spirit and passing on our wisdom to future generations.
