Is this weekly newsletter typically about fitness? Not really. Not physical fitness anyway. But when fitness and health impact your peace and happiness, then of course it relates to peace and possibilities. Which, incidentally, is almost all of the time. My guest this week, Erin Stutland, is full of great ideas to get your life and body moving in the right direction. The first is to consider which core values you were born with. Then strive to align those values with your passions. Sounds simple, I know. It actually is, if you get quiet for a few minutes and just ask yourself a few questions. Then - and this is the most important part - go for it! Take those risks to get what you want. How else will you get there? And when you are rejected, and you will be, ask yourself "what's the learning or growing I need to do?" And, as Erin so beautifully put it, obsession does not equal a solution. Obsessing about a problem, worrying about it, stressing about it, is not the same as figuring out the solution. If it was, stress and worry would always lead to peace and clarity. But it doesn't. It leads to more stress. And as many wise people have told us: failure is a part of success, not the opposite of success. Remember, when taking risks and trying to figure it all out: As Brad Yates says: whenever we make a choice, two outcomes are possible; neither is final or permanent. Decide, take the risk, maybe get rejected. And then choose something else. Get used to this; this is life! More about Erin: Erin Stutland is a renowned author, a mind-body wellness expert, CEO and mom. She was the host and life-style coach of Z Living's cable series, Altar'd which was nominated for a Real Screen award alongside Oprah's Super Soul Sunday. Stutland's best-selling book, Mantras in Motion: Manifesting What You Want through Mindful Movement, (Hay House) explores her proprietary approach to creating meaningful change by harnessing all the body's mental, physical, and spiritual energy through a series of stories, journaling exercises, meditations and movement. Her on-demand app, The Movement helps users all over the world incorporate simple self-care practices that include mindful workouts, meditations and her signature Soul Strolls. She has appeared on The Rachael Ray Show, People.com, Fox News, Glamour Magazine and more. Julie and Casey sit down with Nitika Chopra (founder of Chronicon) to talk about building a platform and community to celebrate and elevate the lives of chronically ill folks. Along the way, they talk about the medicine of feeling all your feelings (including grief), why “you can fix your problems via your THOUGHTS!” can be abusive, hearing the voice of the divine (whatever that looks like for you), and the revelatory power of Idina Menzel’s voice. TOP TAKEAWAYS Nitika’s journey - from running a beauty and self-love publishing platform to talk show host to community creator for people dealing with chronic illness Nitika saw chronically ill folks as being in the same boat the people of size were years ago: being ignored by the fashion and beauty and fitness industries because they assumed they wouldn’t want or didn’t need products and services built for them. “Oh, you’re sick now. Bye.” It’s estimated that 133 million people in America have a chronic illness. When it comes to living inside American hustle culture (particularly as a founder), Nitika is “not interested in conforming”. Just as curvy folks want to be celebrated for who they are RIGHT NOW AS THEY ARE (not for losing weight), the lived experience of chronically ill people deserves to be celebrated in all its fullness. The mission of Chronicon is not to make a case about the worthiness of chronically ill people or about “fitting in” to a wider culture—it’s about owning and honoring the full experience and the superpowers of chronically ill people. What does it look like not just to survive, but to thrive? What can we learn from the lived experience of chronically ill folks? Perhaps the benefits of what Nitika calls “spiritual surrender”. After spending so much time working and striving to heal her body, she was brought to a point where she finally accepted what WAS and could be truly present. “This is our body, and it is doing the best that it can, and we can love it no matter what. And from THERE, we can live.” Part of the subtle and important difference between that spiritual surrender and feeling like a failure is allowing yourself to grieve. Grief allows us to process the sadness of losing something you wanted without the shame of wanting it in the first place. Spiritual surrender doesn’t mean that you stop striving, learning, fighting, etc. So often, we teach the things we most need to learn (Casey, Julie, and Nitika all have experienced this). For Nitika, teaching self love has helped her to address many, many years of self-hatred. Who gave Nitika permission to fight for herself? God, and her spiritual practice. At 15, at a serious low point, she heard a message that carried her through: “It’s not about you.” So much of “wellness/spirituality/self-help” culture spreads a message of manifesting your way out of your problems—as so many do, Nitika found herself trying to heal herself via belief, and felt like a failure when she didn’t heal. To be clear, this “you can get rid of your problems by repeating mantras and changing your mindset” (and its dark mirror, if you still have problems, it’s because you didn’t believe hard enough) version of “wellness” and “spirituality” perpetuates abuse. We’ve been conditioned by American culture to numb out and avoid feeling our pain, but according to Nitika, “Dealing with our pain, our truth about our pain is one of the greatest medicines in our life. There’s so much wisdom and medicine inside of our pain and suffering. It’s not a place I choose to stay - I don’t want to marinate in it or bring others down by spreading my pain everywhere, but when you give yourself permission to FEEL it, you allow it to be released and to move and take shape and move ON.” Singing feels like home to Nitika. Seeing Idina Menzel in Rent on Broadway was a revelation to her—“Women can SOUND like that?” Her programing was that women should be neat and poised and small and tidy and not “flaunt their spirits”. And NOW, she’s part of the Resistance Revival Choir, and on their debut album! The Biggest Loser went off the air in 2016. That same year, The New York Times published findings by the journal Obesity, which kept track of 14 contestants before and after a season of the show. The study found that just one of the fourteen weighed less than when they had started the show. All the others had gained the weight – and more- back. A year after the show’s ending and the published study, executive producer JD Roth created and produced The Big Fat Truth on Z Living network. The show featured Biggest Loser former contestants who had regained and sought to help these men and women understand the behaviors and patterns that had led them to fail at weight loss. Per the official logline, the new Biggest Loser will “feature a dynamic new team of experts determined to dramatically improve America’s lifespans and waistlines.” Men and women will compete not only to lose weight, but to improve their overall wellbeing; to that end, each episode’s experts will include a trainer, chef and life coach, who will “help guide the contestants as they embark on the biggest transformations of their lives.” We’re re-imagining The Biggest Loser for today’s audiences, providing a new holistic, 360-degree look at wellness, while retaining the franchise’s competition format and legendary jaw-dropping moments,” said Chris McCumber, USA Network’s president of entertainment. “USA’s recent reboot of Temptation Island brought both new and younger viewers to the network, and we’re excited to add another big, buzzy show to our growing unscripted lineup.” HISTORY The Biggest Loser originally ran for 17 seasons on NBC and wrapped its initial run in February 2016. Trainers included Bob Harper, Dolvett Quince, Jennifer Widerstrom and Jillian Michaels (who became known for her intense, often-harsh motivational techniques). Ultimately, the highest percentage of weight lost will still determine the winner, as in seasons past In looking at the past winners, 47% have kept off the weight, 12% gained it back, 41% have gained some of it back, and 6% are unknown. Nitika Chopra is, in her own words, “a woman on a mission to inspire radical self-love.” Her goal is not only to show us how to fall in love with ourselves, but, like her, to “learn to thrive with a chronic illness.” If she’s one thing: she’s real. Nitika shares the raw pain she had to grow through in order to find that self-love she speaks so passionately about. Diagnosed with debilitating psoriasis at 10, she was further diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis – which at that point had taken over most of her body’s joints – at 19. She lived for years with unsightly sores from head to toe, unable to move without severe pain. She lived through, as she tells us in this episode, more than 15 years of pain, insecurity, confusion, and depression. In that darkness, she made a decision: “to be more committed to [her] happiness than [to her] suffering.” By 2010, she’d mastered the concepts of self-love and self-care and founded lifestyle magazine Bella Life; a few years later, her now-glowing skin came center-stage as she became the host of Naturally Beautiful, a talk show that aired on the holistic lifestyle channel Z Living. Most recently, she became a luxury skincare spokesperson and regular expert on QVC. She’s also the host of her own podcast, The Point of Pain, which explores how we can navigate pain in our lives – both literally and figuratively – with grace and heart. This week, she launches perhaps the most heart-centered of her projects to-date: the first annual Chronicon, in partnership with Healthline. For one day in New York City, she and numerous chronic illness advocates and experts will join panels (in an ADA-compliant space!) to talk about life with chronic illness: the good, the bad, and the ugly. She prides herself on being able to truthfully feel the fear – and do it anyway. And do it she does! We are so excited to hold space for this inspirational, real woman – who pulls no punches. Uninvisible Pod crew: meet Nitika! (P.S. We know you’re all wondering – and no, she’s not related to Deepak or Priyanka!) Tune in as Nitika reveals… - that she was 10 when she got her psoriasis diagnosis – following a sterile, cold experience being biopsied - that she was diagnosed with severe psoriatic arthritis at 19 - that she still struggles with inflammation, which inspires self-love conversations with herself constantly - that she’s on AIP for her health - that just because she doesn’t have psoriasis all over her body, doesn’t mean she isn’t managing her symptoms daily - that she spent a lot of time beating herself up with what she calls “toxic positivity”, or the “pink bubble”, in the wellness space – that she followed the prevailing teaching that there was something misaligned in her perspective, and she had to fix it (and that, in essence, her ailments were her fault) - that she’s passionate about debunking “toxic positivity” - that her bones began to deform because of her arthritis - that she is a very spiritual person, and finally came to the conclusion that maybe God also made medicine to help cure her – not just to hurt her - her wake-up call to medicine: when she couldn’t make it to an audition, and realized that she wasn’t living a full life - that not everybody needs to take medication – but it really changed her life - that no amount of green juice would have saved her – she really required medicine - that in high school, she’d wake up with bloody sheets from the itching in her sleep - that her ex-husband made her feel that she could trust herself – that her gut was teaching her the right things, and she needed to listen to it - that she has truly become her own advocate, even though she’s always considered her mom to be her nurse - that she’s been creating content for 10+ years now, but her health journey was never what she wanted to lead with - that she’s always been proud of what she’s overcome and been through – but she didn’t want that journey to define her life - that in 2016, work began to dry up – and by the end of 2017, she had connected to her larger purpose: and realized it was time to talk about the one thing that moves her in a way that nothing else does – her health journey. As such, the world began opening up to her again - that when she meets someone who’s struggling with their body in ways that she can relate to, nothing moves her more than being able to help that person - how CurvyCon inspired her - that Chronicon feels like a place that she’s creating for a LOT of people to finally belong - how she creates balance in her life – and that she doesn’t manage everything perfectly, but she’s always learning - how she practices self-love and self-care - that she’s experienced more adversity as a woman in the medical system than as a woman of color - that getting divorced was less isolating than being chronically ill - that she started Chronicon in part to end the shame and isolation associated with chronic illness - the American Health Council’s projection: that by 2020, 157 million people will have a chronic illness - that she’s learning so much from attendees and panelists at Chronicon

In the world of being multi-passionate, it takes time, commitment, failure, and success to truly be able to navigate through it all. Entrepremamma Erin Stutland is showing us how it's done with movement and grace. As with anything we endure in life, it's a journey and through that journey, you'll learn along the way what practices and tools best support you. For Erin, she's passionate about movement and mantra, so much so that she just released her book Mantras in Motion: Manifesting What You Want Through Mindful Movement. With the uprise of conscious parenting, there is a movement happening where the parents of the new generation are understanding their influence in even the most mundane aspects of life. As more and more people do the work, we begin to heal the generations to come through conscious action and awareness as to how these children are affected. It's about doing the subconscious work within and without. We are also seeing through various online platforms how we are able to build community and share the medicine with a larger crowd than ever before. The way you speak to yourself has power. Getting closer to our dreams, resistance and negative self talk can come up to the surface, but it takes a level of awareness to shift how you can begin to see things differently. Success starts with the mind and since we are having to navigate through this new paradigm of business and living in the Golden Era, it's critical for you to honor your needs, your body, and your overall health and well-being. Each of us has the power to manifest what it is we truly desire. To get there, we must be willing to have a healthy relationship with all facets of our hue-man experience. Along the journey, things and thoughts may arise, but it's up to you to decide the trajectory of your life and how you choose to experience and interpret what's arising along the way. Just know, Spirit always has your back. We can be our worst enemy based on how we speak to ourselves. Through the power of presence + words and allowing ourselves to follow our joy, we can move mountains and unleash our medicine with the world. In this episode, Erin and I talked about... ☾ How to navigate through all facets of life to get shit done ☾ Understanding the Key to Manifestation ☾ Shifting your Mindset around Exercise and Fitness to align to your highest self ☾ The importance of honoring you + conscious motherhood ☾ Understanding the power of words and mantra ☾ Releasing Resistance as you get closer to your dream ☾ Stream of Conscious Writing as a form of meditation ☾ The Importance of Building Your Email List and the Evolution of Social Media ... plus so much more. #095 — Creating ‘Mantras in Motion’ as a Dancer, Teacher, and Entrepreneur Mantras can be powerful in helping us reprogram our thinking. Yet, many of us have a hard time making them stick. So, how do we rewire our brains to make affirmations part of our conscious programming? Erin Stutland’s background in dance combined with her interest in personal development and grew into a practice of ‘mantras in motion.’ She couples positive self-talk with movement to strengthen body AND mind in tandem, and the pairing makes affirmations ‘sticky.’ A concept like courage evolves from an intellectual idea to a physiological sensation: We feel it in our body and it becomes a part of us. Today, Erin joins me to share her journey from artist to entrepreneur, explaining how working as a dancer and actor prepared her to run her own business and what inspired her transition to full-time entrepreneur. Erin discusses her journey to motherhood in her late 30’s, offering insight around her empowering experience with IVF, the emotion of being on camera while your body is changing, and the impact of pregnancy on her body image and identity. She also describes her initial ambivalence about becoming a mother and how much she is loving the role thus far. Listen in to understand the questions Erin is grappling with in her business as a new mom—and learn more about her new book, Mantras in Motion! Lightbulb Moment: Business Breakthroughs and Personal Discoveries with Becky Mollenkamp
Dancing brought Erin Stutland unlimited joy when she was a schoolgirl. It quickly turned to pressure, however, when she majored in it during college. Her world was further rocked in the second semester of her freshman year, when her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Soon, Erin was overwhelmed and in the throes of depression. A therapist recommended antidepressants, but Erin had a different idea. Her mother was dealing with chemotherapy through tai chi and meditation, and Erin soon discovered she could change her thoughts. Mindfulness became Erin’s passion and calling. Today she creates programs and writes books that help others discover the power of healthy, thoughtful movement. More in this episode: How Erin’s mom found comfort through her cancer diagnosis Where Erin started with her own mindfulness practices How mindset work helps when you’re piecemealing your life together Why Erin started pairing mantras with movement The reality about huge, life-changing events Erin’s morning routine and how it helps her What one resource Erin recommends, and exactly how to use it The huge number of thoughts you have daily and the startling percentage that are the same as you had yesterday Erin Stutland is a mind-body wellness and fitness expert, and the host and coach of the new weight-loss transformation TV show Altar’d on Z Living. In the same way that somebody once combined peanut butter and jelly to make a flavor combination arguably more desirable than sex, and in the same way another person combined a leggings with jeans to give our fashion-forward legs some freedom, my guest today has combined metaphysics with physical fitness in a way that can pretty much most def help you get things that you desire. Erin Stutland has created a method of combining movement with mindfulness in an actually do-able, not too woowoo-able way. Erin is an author of the upcoming book “Mantras In Motion: Manifesting What You Want Through Mindful Movement,” a fitness coach and creator of the Shrink Session program, the TV show host of Z Living’s cable series, Altar’d, all about true and lasting transformation. I’ve gotta say that this here chat with Erin has had a true and lasting impact on me. Kind of like how once you discover how harmoniously PB&J go together, or once you try on jeggings, you can’t UNtaste PB&J or smile as you put on regular jeans, after hearing Erin’s strategies for paying attention to what the heckers you say to yourself while you’re working out, you won’t be able to NOT sweet talk yourself through your next sweat sesh. Get psyched to hear: Why mantras* are so powerful How combining mantras with movement is legit magic *WTF a “mantra” actually is and how to hook yourself up with your own A story that straight up proves manifestation How and why it’s ok to push yourself to exercise The weirdest and most surface level about a coat Why it’s weirdly tricky business figuring out what we actually desire A realistic way to get on the mantra + movement train right this second Some tough love for my sister to get into a sweat habit (!!!) I’m thrilled to share this episode of the Mother’s Quest Podcast with mother, coach, entrepreneur and mind-body wellness expert Erin Stutland. Through her signature Shrink Session workouts and Soul Strolls, which combine principles from dance, yoga, meditation and more, Erin helps over 70,000 people in 155 countries to transform negative thinking into possibility and tap into their own inner strength. I bring this episode to you as I participate in Erin’s free five day movement and mantra challenge. I first discovered this challenge three years ago, and ever since, her inspiring videos have become a key part of my morning practice. So, it was surreal in the best way, when I had the opportunity to talk live with Erin about movement, motherhood and her own E.P.I.C. life. The ability to embody leadership, to create movement in our bodies and our lives, is the gift that Erin brings to all those she reaches through her products, programs, and soon-to-be-published book Mantras in Motion. In this conversation, I loved learning about how Erin developed these gifts from an early age, growing up in Chicago where her own mother allowed her the freedom and permission to move, play and pursue her passion for dance. Recently a mother herself, Erin brings this awareness and the gift of movement to her own baby daughter. There was a lightness and grounding quality in talking with Erin that I so appreciated, as we explored everything from the lesson she learned about leadership while shepherding goats in Israel to how she brought her whole self and integrity to hosting a reality television show. I was grateful to be immersed in Erin’s perspective and challenge this week, which coincided with our mid-term elections in the United States. On election day in particular, I noticed my anxiety rising, and was able to consciously transform Erin’s movement mantra of the morning “This is my time,” to “This is our time,” envisioning the progressive leaders I supported successfully winning their elections. That invitation to change my “inner landscape” as Erin calls it, through mantra and movement, made a huge difference in my outlook. A day later as I record this, I’m sitting with mixed feelings about the outcome of the election, but also a determination to move into action. I hope after listening today, that you, like me, are inspired by the lessons Erin has shared with us and the gift of her Soul Stroll, to get moving and stay moving toward the change in our lives and in our country that we seek. Much appreciation, P.S. Know someone who you think would appreciate this episode? Push forward and share this conversation! In This Episode We Talk About: Favorite mantras that Erin and I brought to this episode as our intentions for the conversation. The importance of guiding from behind and moving our own egos out of the way when we parent (and what this has to do with goats!) The power of MOVEMENT in our lives and the impact of shifting our inner landscapes. How using movement can help us be more present for our children. Why a body at rest stays at rest, and moving is often the last thing we want to do. But, our lack of desire to get moving is not a reflection of how we’ll feel once we get going. Bringing consciousness to how we invest and care for ourselves and why it’s natural to make different kinds of investments at different times in our lives. Erin Stutland is a mind-body wellness and fitness expert, and host and life-style coach of Z Living’s cable series, Altar’d. I first met Erin through her signature Shrink Session workout (for which I’m an affiliate partner), and love her approach to creating change in your life through movement – or as Erin says “movement in your body creates movement in your life.” As a new mama and soon to be published author, Erin’s life has changed a bit since the last time we talked; so I invited her on the podcast to talk about her new book, Mantras In Motion (being published by Hay House in January 2019), why she believes that combining words with movement is the key to creating change in your life, and how becoming a mom changed what she does to feel well, but not her definition of being well. Hello loves. I'm so excited to be on this journey with you. I know this is just the beginning, but I have so much planned for our time together. In case this is your first encounter with me, I'm Nitika Chopra and I've been an entrepreneur for the past nine years. It's been such a beautiful and humbling experience that led to me having my own talk show on the holistic lifestyle channel, Z Living, for two and a half season and being a beauty expert on QVC where I emphasized natural beauty. Currently, I have a blog and do brand partnerships and live events and it's really allowed me to have so much fun with my career in a variety of different ways. The reason I first began my entrepreneurial journey was because I had a story to share regarding a medical condition I was diagnosed with at the age of 10. In this introductory episode of The Point of Pain podcast, I share that story and the reason why I felt called to create this podcast. Whether your pain is physical, emotional, entrepreneurial, or something entirely different, it's my hope that this podcast will help nurture you through gaining a deeper understanding of those experiences. It's time to stop numbing our pain and the journey starts here … with this introduction to The Point of Pain podcast. To learn more, visit the show notes. Want to continue the love-fest? Today on the Podcast, The Knocking on Your Heart. You know when you're at one of those huge conferences and you're meeting all kinds of creative entrepreneurial folks from all kinds of places? You're chatting quickly here and there between speakers. Passing by briefly between bathroom breaks. Wishing you could chat with influencers but find yourself seated with the friends you came with cuz there's barely time to eat and pee — let alone introduce yourself in a non crazy-person way. You feel a weird mix of excitement and dread. There are specific names you want to "connect" with and certain folks you want to avoid. So you're racking and stacking who to prioritize. Maybe you practice your elevator speech on the plane, in the taxi, at your hotel. No doubt you dress to impress and ya come camera ready, costs be damned! If this is you, know this is also about 99.9% of every conference goer on the planet. Even the ones you most look up to have that same twinge of "conference crazy" as I call it. One part nerves, one part thrill, one part pressure. You've put a lot of time, money, and energy into going. It makes sense why you might be thinking, "This HAS to WORK." But oye is that a slippery slope! And then suddenly the weekend's over?! You're flying home, bombarded with a billion BIG ideas, already starting to feel the high coming down and thinking ... "Wait, it's over? I met sooooo many people; why do I feel like I barely talked to anyone." You're looking through your phone and it's all detail shots and flatlays and boomerangs and photo booth groupies. You think, "It looks like I had a great time. Why did I feel so lonely? So spastic? So desperate?" And you're wondering, "How the heck do I make this count?" So, you skim through your pages of notes ... Sift through your stack of acquired business cards, try to put conversations to faces and all those new instagram handles but, honestly, ya kinda got nothin. You're thinking, "Wait, which brand strategist was she?" or "Dannnng, how did they get to lunch with her!?!?" or "Gawwd, I look awful in that shot. Why did they have to tag me?" Before you know it — it's Tuesday morning and you're too tired to reach out like you said you would. But it's OK. You'll do it tomorrow. Gotta update the website first anyway. Then it's 3 weeks later. Website's still wonky. Haven't reached out. But it's OK. You'll sign up for that 8 week course and reconnect in the private FB group. Now you're in the FB group but there's thousands of members and it's a whole lot of white noise, TBH. So you bounce because, after all, it's a giant time suck (and, truthfully, it made you feel pretty anxious. Pretty behind. Pretty not good enough. Pretty exhausted). Ya think, "I gotta get offline. Go somewhere! No one even knows I exist online." Only, you just went somewhere offline. So you say, "No. You can't afford it. That was thousands of dollars. And you're still paying off your Nordstrom's card." So back to DIY marketing hacks you go. Thinking, "Well, if I could just beat the Instagram algorhythm. Maybe I should spend the money on Ads." You do. But still, nothin. Like hitting your head against a brick wall. The doubt seeps in. "Maybe I just need to go get a J-O-B." Then the shame seeps in. Sound familiar? It's a vicious cycle. One every entrepreneur has been on at one time or another. Know you're not alone. You're in the exact right place. Build your business "small but mighty; slow and steady." Now more than ever, when so many women are launching offerings from their laptop (juxtaposed by registering for 1000+ person swaggy conferences with tracked themes or enrolling in monthly online memberships for hundreds of folks at all different stages of business and seasons of life), you need to remember that the BEST businesses — the ones that thrive creatively, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically AND financially — are the ones built on real life, genuine, intimate relationship circles. They are the brain trusts. The collectives. The masterminds. Not only sustainable in business but in life. Because ... Quickie conference chit-chat like, "Oh, hey! So, what'd you think of the panel?" is great but not enough. Loop giveaway partners are smart but not enough. Instagram Lives are fun but not enough. Private Facebook Groups are 24/7 but not enough. What is? Truly investing in others (& they'll invest in you). Giving more than taking. Sharing more than competing. Learning more than preaching. Not with hundreds. Not with thousands. But with a precious few, we hold on. When life hands you a storm you didn't see coming. When success doesn't look how you thought it would. When hustle no longer works and burnout hits ya hard. When pivoting feels essential but starting seems impossible. It's the people you've supported, the ones you've truly gotten to know and serve, who will get you through. Not the room you tried to "work" nor the list you promo-blasted last week. Better yet? They're the ones who'll remind you who you are, what you want, why you started. They're the ones who'll look you, dead in the eyes, call the elephant out in the room, and say, "Sister-friend, what's up? I see you're struggling. What do you need?" They're the ones who roll up their sleeves, offer their resources, and introduce you to the right people, at the right time, in the right way. And that, friends, is how authentic marketing and genuine sales funnels are made. One slow, sincere, surrendered conversation at a time. We draw the circle wide. So come sit by us. Enter my conversation with Nitika Chopra ... Nitika Chopra is a certified life coach, wellness entrepreneur, go-to resource for young women around the globe, and a motivational lifestyle guru. “The body is no match for the power of the mind.“JD Roth Despite our cultural obsession with weight loss, we've never been fatter.Right now, one out of every three U.S. adults are obese. Another third are overweight. Even worse? 18% of our children are morbidly obese with rates continuing to soar. In lockstep with our obesity epidemic is a shocking escalation of chronic lifestyle illness, including high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, and stroke. One out of every three Americans will die of heart disease. Close to 30% of the adult population is diabetic or pre-diabetic. The problem is so bad, 75% of all U.S. healthcare costs are attributable to these conditions — illnesses that quite ironically are avoidable and often reversible through some fairly simple diet and lifestyle changes. So why can't we lose the weight and keep it off? This is the question JD Roth has devoted his life to answering. The man behind a television empire built on the shoulders of a prime-time juggernaut called The Biggest Loser — which aired for an astonishing 17 seasons — JD is the award-winning producer and reality-TV pioneer behind some of the most successful and prolific television programs of our era. More than a decade ago, JD first introduced viewers to the weight-loss TV arena with The Biggest Loser on NBC – now a worldwide, half-billion-dollar brand – and expanded upon it with Extreme Weight Loss on ABC, which ran for five seasons and airs as Obese in more than 130 countries.JD is also author of Big Fat Truth*, and a brand-new television series of the same name (premiering June 11 at 8pm ET/PT on Z Living), which challenges and guides groups of participants unhappy with their weight and health (including some former Biggest Loser contestants who regained their weight), providing them the tools to uncover and tackle the real issues behind the weight while encouraging them to adopt a whole food, plant-based diet over a three month period of mental, emotional and practical mentorship by JD and a panel of experts that include none other than podcast favorite Michael Greger, MD (and a brief appearance by yours truly).Never before has a show advanced plant-based eating as a central conceit. A first in the history of television, I cannot overstate how excited this is for the movement and the world.Today I sit down with the blockbuster producer to unpack it all — including the whirl of controversy that surrounds the successful shows he created. This is a conversation about the cultural phenomenon of weight loss television that JD originated, framed and fashioned. It's about the overlooked mental and emotional barriers that prevent too many from achieving and maintaining optimal weight and health. And it's a conversation about his passion for the plant-based lifestyle, as well as the hows and whys behind his book and new television show that advance this lifestyle as the model way to not only lose weight, but keep it off for good.Irrespective of your opinion on JD's former shows, I can honestly say that JD is truly passionate about helping people — I've seen it first hand, up close and personal. So I urge you to set aside any pre-conceived notions you may ha... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Chris Marhefka is the owner of B3 Gym in Gainesville Florida, the co-founder of Eat the 80, and co-host of the Z Living show, Altar’d. This guy has hustle. Serious hustle. Balancing two companies while shooting a TV show is a busy life. Today’s episode is all about using the momentum of your previous experience to capitalize on the opportunities right in front of you. But it takes preparation. My big takeaways from this episode: -If you’re not prepared at the time that opportunity presents itself, it will pass you by. -You must stay in the present moment. Not where you want to be someday or dwelling on past mistakes, but right now. -You must be genuine. You can’t fake authenticity. -Care for and develop yourself.
