Jon talks with Bob Burg, Hall of Fame Keynote Speaker and Bestselling Coauthor of “The Go-Giver” and Go-Giver Book Series and Simon Thomas, CEO at DOBI Real Estate, about the lesson from our favorite book – The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann – and how every business can implement them into their business and mindset. Simon Thomas, CEO of DOBI Real Estate Simon Thomas grew up in the hospitality industry with his family owning banquet halls. He knew that eventually he wanted to get into the real estate industry, but on the commercial side. Simon's cousin was selling homes in Detroit and asked him to try residential for 90 days before he decided to go to the commercial real estate side. On Day 1, Simon sold a house and was hooked! After a year, Simon went off on his own and doubled his business year after year. In 2017, Simon started a team to help agents grow, learn, and leverage each other. After a year, the team decided to start their brokerage company: DOBI. By implementing tools and support that no other brokerage offers, their agents' businesses are growing! Bob Burg, Author and Speaker, Go-Giver Books Bob Burg is a sought-after speaker at company leadership and sales conferences on topics at the core of the Go-Giver books. A former television personality and top-producing salesperson, Bob has shared the platform with some of today's top business leaders, broadcast personalities, coaches, athletes, and political leaders, including a former U.S. president. In addition to coauthoring the bestselling Go-Giver books with John David Mann, Bob has authored a number of popular books, including the critically acclaimed, Endless Referrals: Network Your Everyday Contacts Into Sales and Adversaries into Allies. His total book sales are well over a million copies. The American Management Association named Bob one of the 30 Most Influential Leaders and he is one of Inc.'s 100 Great Leadership Speakers. Richtopia named him one of the Top 200 Most Influential Authors in the World. When everything has gone haywire and nothing makes sense anymore, what’s left is love. But, how do we define love after all is gone?Love is more than a feeling that a person has for another person. It’s an intimate relationship between ourselves and the world. So, when that world is breaking apart, what is love, after all?Our Guest:Dan Rockwell is listed in the Top Fifty Leadership and Management Expert and Top 100 Great Leadership Speakers by Inc Magazine and he is the author behind the Leadership Freak blog, which according to the Center for Management and Organization Effectiveness, is the most socially shared leadership blog on the Internet.Dan started his career in the nonprofit world and has earned an MBA and undergraduate degrees in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, and Construction and Design. He owned two businesses and served fifteen years as a Workforce Development Consultant for a Penn State University Special Affiliate. The first one that you have to overcome, especially when you're in that transitional mode, is the product-market fit. Meaning basically just figuring out, What is it I actually am selling? -  and Do people want it? It sounds so obvious in some ways, but it can really take a while. When I first started my consulting business, I actually, my original vision is that I was going to do political consulting. That was how I started... I had business cards made up, "Dorie Clark, Political Consultant" because I thought, "I can consult around," I worked in campaigns so "I can consult around this. This will be great." What often happens, if you are wise enough to listen, is that your market will sometimes tell you differently.

Do you ever feel like you are pulled in a thousand different directions? It seems that in order to succeed in today's social media environment you have to be a jack of all trades and a master of none! From Facebook Live to YouTube channels and IG Stories, there are so many ways to build your online presence, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Kaizenites, you know that at the heart of my message is a desire to continually improve and embrace the very best of who I can be each and every day. I'll be the first to admit that I can stray from that message from time to time. I get distracted and I need helpful voices in my life that remind me to get back to the basics of what I'm all about. I'm convinced that this struggle isn't unique to me! I know many of you often find your personal message and purpose lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Let's cut through the noise and get back to the basics together! Here to help us hack through life's overgrowth with his machete of wisdom and knowledge is Evan Carmichael! Evan has 1.5M+ subscribers on his YouTube channel which features over 5,000 videos on the greatest influencers and leaders in the world. You may have come across his Top 10 Rules of Success videos that showcase his genius. Evan has also been recognized as one of INC. Magazine's 100 Great Leadership Speakers and one of Forbes Magazine's Top 40 Social Marketing Talents. Evan is THE GUY when it comes to addressing untapped potential. He eats, sleeps, breathes and bleeds entrepreneurship. Evan is obsessed with his mission to help one billion entrepreneurs and change the world. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from Evan's world-class insights! Here are a few takeaways from today's podcast episode with EVAN CARMICHAEL: You need a unique message! There is always room for quality at the top. Go where your audience is, don't expect them to come to you! Create an environment that supports your message. Outline of This Episode [6:30] I am joined by the amazing, Evan Carmichael! [9:00] Is your messaging unique? Does your purpose come from your pain? [13:50] How do you breakthrough and reach your audience? [16:30] There is always room for quality at the top! [19:00] Why it's important to be where your audience is. [23:00] Get back to the basics! [27:30] What's your main message? [28:50] Create your environment that supports your message. [32:15] What is Evan's greatest work? How do you think guys like Michael Jordan, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, and others achieve the level of performance and success that made them household names? Did they bite on every new tactic and flashy new course that came their way? No! They mastered the basics of their craft. Imagine how many hours of practice it took for Jordan to make those shots on the court consistently. How many failed ideas and drawing board designed got scraped before Jobs locked in on the final version of the iPhone? It may sound so BASIC but sometimes that's exactly what we need! In his research, renowned author, Malcolm Gladwell discovered that it takes, on average, 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to become an expert in your field. In our culture, we are conditioned to believe that we need all the stars to align before we can take the next step and move forward to pursue our purpose. That's a load of shit! If you wait for the “right circumstances” to succeed, you are a sucker. Instead of a comforting and nurturing message, sometimes we just need a swift kick in the ass to get us moving in the right direction. Consider this your kick in the ass, I'll admit, I need one too sometimes! Let's reject this notion of a safe, Hollywood crafted version of success and get closer to the gritty reality. The truth is, it's going to take blood, sweat, and tears to make your dreams come true, you won't see that in a Disney movie! What do you need to do to get back to the basics in your zone of genius? Do whatever it takes to lock in on those foundational concepts and master them, I mean REALLY master them! In this season of life, I'm focusing on honing my speaking skills. I want to take my message to any audience I can and convey it with passion, sincerity, and excitement! I hate the idea of good content wasted on poor execution. What do you need to work on right now? What is your plan of attack? The old saying rings true here, “What gets managed, get's done!” If you want to accomplish your goals, you've got to start creating an environment you can succeed in! Maybe for you, it's carving out that hour in your day to work on personal development. Or maybe it's quitting that job that is sucking the life and creativity out of you. Whatever it is for you, get it done! Stop waiting for the perfect moment to take action - your moment is NOW! Kaizenites, I'm in this thing for the long haul. It won't be easy but I know the journey will be worth it! I'm going to invite you in on my process, I'm going to open up and show you what I'm up to every step of the way. It's my hope that my journey will serve as an encouragement and a beacon of light so high performers like you can find your way and hone your craft. Lolly's proprietary insights are the subject of her new book, The Leadership Gap: What Gets Between You and Your Greatness, and is available now. Huffington Post honored Lolly with the title of The Most Inspiring Woman in the World. About Lolly's Book: Do people see you as the kind of leader you want to be? Are your strongest leadership qualities getting in the way of your greatness? After decades of advising and inspiring some of the most eminent chief executives in the world, Lolly Daskal has uncovered a startling pattern: within each leader are powerful abilities that are also hidden impediments to greatness. She's witnessed many highly driven, overachieving leaders rise to prominence fueled by well-honed skill sets, only to falter when the shadow sides of the same skills emerge. Now Daskal reveals her proven system, which leaders at any level can apply to dramatically improve their results. It begins with identifying your distinctive leadership archetype and recognizing its shadow: ■ The Rebel, driven by confidence, becomes the Imposter, plagued by self-doubt. ■ The Explorer, fueled by intuition, becomes the Exploiter, master of manipulation. ■ The Truth Teller, who embraces candor, becomes the Deceiver, who creates suspicion. ■ The Hero, embodying courage, becomes the Bystander, an outright coward. ■ The Inventor, brimming with integrity, becomes the Destroyer, who is morally corrupt. ■ The Navigator, trusts and is trusted, becomes the Fixer, endlessly arrogant. ■ The Knight, for whom loyalty is everything, becomes the Mercenary, who is perpetually self-serving. Using psychology, philosophy, and her own experience, Daskal offers a breakthrough perspective on leadership. She'll take you inside some of the most cloistered boardrooms, let you in on deeply personal conversations with industry leaders, and introduce you to luminaries who've changed the world. Her insights will help you rethink everything you know to become the leader you truly want to be. Tell us about your business Lead From Within is a global leadership consultancy firm. What is your best advice to have a life and business based on the Thrive philosophy? 1. Find out what matters to you. 2. Don't compromise what is important to you. 3. Today's guest is Dorie Clark. She's a frequent contributor to Harvard Business Review, Time and Entrepreneur. She's been recognized as a branding expert by The Associated Press, Inc, and Fortune. What's a brand? Yeah we're gonna talk about that with Dorie. I believe I have a brand; sometimes I hesitate to admit it because I think it sounds, sometimes, a little snobby to say that I have a brand. But she puts it in a way that really democratizes this concept of having a personal brand. You have a brand, whether you're working at a company, an entrepreneur, a mom staying at home with your kids raising them, you have a brand! And so the earlier you recognize that, and nurture that, and cultivate that, the better off you can be. Now Dorie also serves as a marketing strategy consultant and speaker for many notable clients, including Google, Microsoft, Yale University, Fidelity, and World Bank among others. She's the author of two great books; the first is called "Reinventing You", and more recently she's the author of "Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It". She currently is an adjunct professor of business administration at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, and a visiting professor for IE Business School in Madrid. Dorie was also featured on Huffington Post as a 100 Must Follow on Twitter in 2013 and 2014. She's also on the Nifty 50 list of top women on Twitter, and most notably she was named on of Inc Magazine's 100 Great Leadership Speakers for Your Next Conference, and recognized in Forbes as one of 25 professional networking experts to watch in 2015. So she is, as it pertains to branding and leadership, she's your go-to and she's on the show today. So I'm very honored.

Why I Do What I Do I grew up in a very small town in North Carolina – pre-Internet era – and felt incredibly frustrated with the lack of opportunities and like-minded people. I left home early to head to college, so I could get a jumpstart on doing the things I cared about, like getting a masters degree in theology and becoming a political reporter, presidential campaign spokesperson, nonprofit executive director, and documentary filmmaker. In 2006, I launched my marketing strategy consulting business, and eventually started writing, speaking professionally, and teaching for business schools. I’m passionate about helping others take control of their professional lives and make an impact on the world, and have written two books – Reinventing You and the Stand Out – to help make that a reality. The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast

Dorie Clark | Reinventing You | Personal Branding Show Notes:  Http://ryanrhoten.com/dorieclark Today we welcome to the BRAND New You show Dorie Clark president and marketing strategy consultant at Clark Strategic Communications. She is an author and professional speaker, as well as a recognized “branding expert” by the Associated Press, Fortune, and Inc. magazine Dorie Clark is frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Entrepreneur, and the World Economic Forum blog. Her first book, Reinventing You: Define Your Brand, Imagine Your Future has been translated into Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French, Polish, and Thai. Dorie's newest book, Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It, is available for pre-order. She was named one of the “100 Must Follow People on Twitter” by the Huffington Post for 2013 and 2014, and she was named on the #Nifty50 list of top women on Twitter. Inc. magazine has named her one of the “100 Great Leadership Speakers for Your Next Conference,” and she has been recognized in Forbes as one of “25 Professional Networking Experts to Watch in 2015.” REINVENTING YOU - DEFINE YOUR BRAND | IMAGINE YOU FUTURE In 2010, Dorie wrote a post for the Harvard Business Review titled, “How to reinvent your personal brand”. The post went “viral” and Dorie was able to use it as a springboard for her book Reinventing You. More than just the author, Dorie is a practictioner having developed the methodologies by reinventing herself several times throughout her career. She started her career with the goal to become a professor, but was turned down for the doctoral program at the schools she applied.  Undetered, Dorie decided to become a journalist and accepted a position in political journalism.  This turned out to be a good move for Dorie who moved on the become a press secretary on gubernatorial campaign and later a press secretary for a presidential campaign. Both campaigns resulted in losses. Dorie once again had to adapt,  evolve and reinvent herself. During her journey, Dorie realized there was no guide or roadmap to teach people how to reinvent themselves. So she leaned on her own experiences and on interviews with dozens of experts she spoke to along the way and eventually Reinventing You was born. So how do you know it's time to Reinvent yourself?  Dorie offers a few suggestions. If you wake up and hate going to work. There is something else other than your work that gets your blood pumping that might be something to start moving towards. During our discussion, Dorie and I cover various topics such as: Suggestions to get started Why it's important to start with a 360 degree review. The importance of having mentors  Why we may need multiple mentors along the way How to test drive your new chosen path without leaving your current job. Strategies that we can use to safely learn, take some risks and gain the knowledge that you need for your new path We close this episode with one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes: “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! The best way for the listeners to get in touch with you.   Web: http://dorieclark.com Twitter: @DorieClark
