In Part 2 of our mini-series on “The Federal Reserve aka The Fed,” we break down how the Fed responded to inflation, why they waited so long, and how their decisions affected everything—from interest rates and mortgage costs to job markets and financial markets. This was one of the fastest rate hike cycles in history! It was the result of a tricky balancing act between fighting inflation and protecting the recovering economy. By the way, Fed Powell referred to Tariffs as transitory again recently, and this has actually happened before - that's why the Fed chooses his words very wisely, diction is one of the FOMC's tools in their toolbox. What You'll Learn:What the Fed thought was happening in 2021 (spoiler: they called it “transitory”)How inflation kept rising—and why the Fed had to play catch-upWhat aggressive rate hikes are actually supposed to doAnd what we've learned (the hard way) about responding to supply-driven inflationIf you've been trying to understand how we got from 0% interest rates to 5.5% in under two years, this episode connects the dots. Because once you understand “the why” behind the Fed's moves, the headlines make a lot more sense.

Richmond North of Richmond was published last week and has tens of millions of listens everywhere from TikTok to Youtube. Why would one song written by what appears to be a redneck from the midwest resonate so deeply with the American society from coast to coast? What does this say about the American DreamWhat does this say about Government and the state of our nation? What does this say about debt? What does this say about consumerism? Is there a way out?We dive deep into this song and how the lyrics reflect the American Dream, America's Debt issues, College, Personal Finances, and how to escape this toxic circle so many Americans are running in.Lyrics to the Song discussed are below:I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all dayOvertime hours for bullshit paySo I can sit out here and waste my life awayDrag back home and drown my troubles awayIt's a damn shame what the world's gotten toFor people like me and people like youWish I could just wake up and it not be trueBut it is, oh, it isLivin' in the new worldWith an old soulThese rich men north of RichmondLord knows they all just wanna have total controlWanna know what you think, wanna know what you doAnd they don't think you know, but I know that you do'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end'Cause of rich men north of RichmondSupport the show
[This blog will always be free to read, but it's also how I pay my bills. So, if you like what you read, please consider a paid subscription. And yes, I do speaking engagements.]About ten days ago, Oliver Anthony, a farmer and former factory worker in Virginia, uploaded a casual performance video of his new song “Rich Men North of Richmond” to YouTube. As of this morning, it's been viewed nearly 15 million times. Mr. Anthony, with no previous experience in the music industry, now has the #1 song on Apple's global music chart and may well top Billboard's Hot 100 by next week.It would be easy to claim this is the result of astroturfing (that's when a “grassroots” campaign is fabricated), and sure enough, some progressive commentators have been loud in their suspicions. The overnight groundswell of support in rightwing media for Mr. Anthony's debut—every far-right luminary from Kari Lake to Matt Walsh has spent the past week hyping the song—doesn't help in that vein. But there are two big things that undermine this theory. The first is that Mr. Anthony has a legitimately great voice and when set to a simple guitar accompaniment, there is an undeniable gravitas to his delivery. If some of the lyrics were different, it'd be easy to see this emerge as a mainstream, crossover chart-topper that appeals to folks across the political spectrum. The second thing is authenticity. Unlike Jason Aldean's hypocritical screed “Try That in a Small Town” (Mr. Aldean is neither from a small town nor has he ever lived in one, nor did he write the song), Mr. Anthony has plenty of blue collar credibility and penned his own lyrics. There's also the difference in aesthetics. Mr. Aldean's music video for “Try That in a Small Town” (which clumsily uses stock footage from protests in Canada) feels like a weak-ass, racist clone of any given bro country music video on CMT. Mr. Anthony's video, on the other hand, is just him and his guitar and a microphone set up with the Virginia countryside in the background.Where Mr. Aldean comes across as too corporate and pandering for his own good, Mr. Anthony, clad in a sweaty t-shirt, looks like he just told his buddy to set up a camera on the farm and get this all in one take. The visuals are simple and natural and powerful, which is, I strongly believe, partly what's making this song go mega viral. Hell, maybe we will find out that this is a particularly sophisticated campaign by the far-right to stir up nonsense, but I honestly don't think that's it. I think Mr. Anthony made an unusually compelling song with an unusually compelling video and it landed in the right hands at the right time. Nevertheless, it's unfortunate that Mr. Anthony's song could have been a broad call to unite against corporate corruption but instead, he settled for a confused, distracted, and unkind broadside against vulnerable people. The far-right appears to love this song not so much for its gorgeous melody and his voice but the dogwhistles strewn throughout the lyrics. The first 45 seconds or so are pretty straightforward and, on their own, could even be mistaken for a leftist anthem:I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all dayOvertime hours for b******t paySo I can sit out here and waste my life awayDrag back home and drown my troubles awayIt's a damn shame what the world's gotten toFor people like me and people like youWish I could just wake up and it not be trueBut it is, oh, it isLivin' in the new worldWith an old soulAnd then, things take a sudden turn:These rich men north of RichmondLord knows they all just wanna have total controlWanna know what you think, wanna know what you doAnd they don't think you know, but I know that you do'Cause your dollar ain't s**t and it's taxed to no end'Cause of rich men north of RichmondObviously, those are references to cancel culture, censorship, and taxation being promoted by politicians in D.C. (a few hours north of Richmond, Virginia). Still, even so, these are pretty garden variety conservative lyrics. But suddenly, without warning, things go off the rails:I wish politicians would look out for minersAnd not just minors on an island somewhereLord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eatAnd the obese milkin' welfareWell, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 poundsTaxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge roundsYoung men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them downYou caught all that, right? The “minors on an island somewhere” is referencing Jeffrey Epstein, the infamous, dead pedophile-rapist-trafficker whose name has become synonymous with the most shameless QAnon conspiracy theories. In fairness, the welfare bit could be an honest condemnation of all welfare by Mr. Anthony, but in a conservative context, it's almost always a dogwhistle referencing “welfare queens,” the term popularized by then-candidate Ronald Reagan to horribly, implicitly slander Black mothers.(Then again, if Mr. Anthony is condemning all welfare, how would that work out for folks in the street who ain't got nothin' to eat? Hmmm. Also: Republican-led states benefit the most from federal welfare programs, which is, curiously, an essential fact that's routinely left out of these conversations by conservatives.)Mr. Anthony then curiously attacks overweight folks, claiming our taxes are paying for their fudge, and then pairs this with a reference to the “War on Boys” or “War on Men” or “War on Masculinity” or whatever grifting, nonsense framing the far-right is using these days to claim masculinity is in trouble. After that second (and final) verse, Mr. Anthony finishes with his chorus, where, now, the words “people like me and people like you” hit a lot differently than they did at the beginning of the song. So, is this meant to be a rightwing anthem? Is Mr. Anthony a diehard Trump supporter? According to him, not the case, and I gotta say: I think he's being sincere when he says that. In a video commentary posted to his YouTube channel the day before the release of this song, Mr. Anthony states: “I sit pretty dead center down the aisle on politics and, always have. I remember as a kid the conservatives wanting war, and me not understanding that. And I remember a lot of the controversies when the left took office, and it seems like, you know, both sides serve the same master. And that master is not someone of any good to the people of this country.”Do I agree with all that? No, I don't. I think there are crooked politicians across the political spectrum but only one party is actively fighting to undermine working class and middle class families, and I think that's obvious to anyone willing to be honest with themselves. And yet, the rest of the video is unexpectedly disarming. Mr. Anthony genuinely comes across as reasonable, humble, and compassionate. I could definitely see myself sharing a beer with the guy in that video, and yet, it's hard to reconcile the guy in that video with the guy who wrote that song. They don't seem like the same person. In my most generous reading of all this, I think Mr. Anthony is a nice man with a good heart who wants to do right by others and has simply been exploited overnight by rightwing media who see a useful vehicle for their grifting. But then, I go back to those inflammatory lyrics. Those weren't written by accident. They're mean-spirited and unapologetically conspiracy-minded and definitely not middle-of-the-road politically. It's clear that the who's who among the far-right want to turn Mr. Anthony into the voice of their movement. They have latched on to him with a quickness. There is no doubt in my mind they'll soon claim his music is being censored or repressed by “liberal media” (contrary to the widespread coverage he's already received in mainstream media).Only time will tell if Mr. Anthony is his own man — and better than that: the man we saw in his introduction video. I pray that's the man who emerges from all this.Charlotte's Web Thoughts is a reader-supported publication. Have you ever heard that the way to someone's heart is through their stomach? What if food was also a way to get to know the heart of a person or a country?Today I want to introduce you to Mauricio someone who does just that, Mauricio is one of the incredible head chefs at Ancestral located in La Paz, a city so full of diversity, vibrance, beauty, and life; and Mauricio does an incredible job of bringing each of those qualities into the food he creates Yet in addition to being an incredible chef, Mauricio is also a man who values and does not take lightly the impact that role has on those around himHe shares the joy he feels in cooking and working with his hands but also the deeper joy in seeing his guests enjoy what he has created for themHe shares how he's learned to care for the parts of the restaurant beyond the kitchen, the reminder that the restaurant is a business as well as a place of creativity, the importance in seeing those two areas separately and clearly, and as the important things that they are We talk about the culture within Bolivia, its ability to grow and change with the world and the way its diversity is something he is grateful for Mauricio is one that pours so much into his work, but also one I have a ton of respect for in the way he runs his “ship” there is a tangible sense of care and respect amongst the family surrounding him in the kitchen and on the floor, a sense of character and calm that is rarely present in a restaurant environment, and an attention to detail that creates space for passion to be present in every dish that leaves the kitchenSo tune in today and meet Mauricio, the man that reminded me just how possible it is to be passionate, present, and productive in what we doAnd to you Mauricio thank you, thank you for allowing me the honor of getting to know you, for the chance to hear more of who you are, what matters to you, and what has impacted how you show up in this world, thank you for your patience and presence, and of course for sharing the way food turns into art in your kitchen @mauriciolopezancestral

In this episode I share my journey of struggling with anxiety and depression, and how it has negatively impacted my passion for inspiring others, and releasing new podcast episodes. My journey of accepting imperfections in myself is a constant work in progress, and I very vulnerably discussed how feeling mentally not my best is causing me to self sabotage my passions. So in this episode, here I am...To remind you that i am a hot mess. And I am still actually working through a lot.And that chances are, i'm going to be working through a lot for a while.Life truly is a roller coaster, it has ups and downs. But i cannot give up my passion because of those. And so if you feel as though you can't make an impact because you're not at your best, and because you're struggling, and because goodness gracious anxiety and depression really know how to make things tough,I want you to think about your purpose.Think about why you do what you doAnd think about what you can do to embrace that purpose, even when you know you're not at your best. For me, it's speaking authentically.

What would you do if you had $1.2M in funding and suddenly realized you need to kill the business? In 2018, Deepak Chhugani had a YC-backed startup in the HR space that wasn't going anywhere. He went back to the drawing board and decided it was time to follow his dad's footsteps into the world of logistics and supply chain. But before pivoting, he offered the money back to each of his investors. Most of them stayed. And to make up for the ones who backed out, they also put in a little bit more to get Deepak back to $1.2M. Let's talk about that and more right now.Hey, traders. It's Andrew Mitchem here at The Forex Trading Coach. This is video and podcast number 453.The markets are just chaosNow, the markets are just chaos. That's really what they are. Lots of lines, lots of different indicators, lots of confusion going on, different timeframes, different currency pairs, different system strategies, just utter chaos. But as a trader, you need to be able to see through that chaos to actually read on the charts what is actually happening, and think, "Well, behind the scenes, what are these charts telling me is happening right now?" Are there more buyers in the market? Are there more sellers in the market? Is this a trade to take or not? How do I know which currency pair to look at? How do I know which timeframe chart to look at? What happens if the MACDs telling me to buy and the RSIs is telling me to sell? All those type of things. Utter, utter chaos going on in the market.Doing nothing could be the best thing to doAnd sometimes, the answer is to do nothing. Give you an example, just today, right now. The 8th of April on the daily charts, we have taken no trades today on the daily charts. Why? Because there are no good setups. We've been through all the forex pairs, all the metals, the indices, commodities, cryptos, everything. I do not see a single trade today on the daily charts. So, therefore, we've not taken any. We've had a great week so far. We've had four really good days of trading and had some good trades. And therefore, the answer today or the solution today, the strategy is do not take any trades because there are none.Traded the H8 and H12 charts insteadHowever, we're still taking two trades, one on the eight-hour Euro-Aussie and one on the Euro-Hungarian forint on 8-hour and 12-hour that we posted on our membership site for our clients to trade and to learn from. Why? Well, because out of all the different currency pairs, all the markets, all the timeframes, at the change of day leading into Friday the 8th, those are the only two setups that I see on the charts that are suitable to trade the strategy that I trade. And therefore, those are the only two that we've passed onto people. Why are they good? Well, they have the candle pattern that we look for. They're bouncing at the right area that we're looking for. They have some stop-loss protection that we're looking for. They have room to move. They're both sell trades. They have room to move before any next support gets in the way, any previous lows, pivot points, middle Bollinger Bands, all those type of things. So, we see on those two trades, are high-probability setups, and therefore they are the two we've taken. So, we've looked through of all the chaos, we've seen through all the chaos,

Kaya Cansfield is a life force. Our energies connected in the dark when I first attended her spin classes at Psycle London after she made the leap from corporate life a few years ago (she's also since become both a Coach and Deejay). Her expansive journey over the past few years and her obvious growth in that time are just some of the many things that inspire me about her. We met over the airwaves, with her packing up her life to make a big move to Abu Dhabi for a new adventure. We spoke of things like:

I was soon high up in the sky among the clouds. The view of mountains, fields, and rivers was interesting and unusual. Today we are going to do something a little bit different. Normally, I interview a leader in any walk of life to share what propelled that person into their greatness. It’s usually a Dare To moment when someone stepped out of their comfort zone to do something big and then experienced transformative results. On the podcast, we dissect those moments to provide instruction and inspiration for you, our listeners. In this episode, I am not interviewing, but instead putting on my personal, Chief Officer, and executive coaching cap in a different way. I want to talk about Imposter Syndrome and here’s why.For those who are hearing this name for the first time, Imposter Syndrome is the idea that we feel like we are frauds most of the time and that if something happens... you will be exposed. So, imagine walking through life feeling like you will be exposed as inadequate or incompetent, less knowledgeable, less skilled. For many, many people, Imposter Syndrome often gets in the way of our future achievements. I have had IS my whole life and I can tell you from my experience that until you shine a light on it you will not be able to diminish its power. As an Executive Coach and Partner at Evolution, I get to work with some of the movers and the shakers in Silicon Valley, on Main Street and at some of the largest of Enterprise companies. Without a doubt, we have a session that covers IS.So, if IS is the constant fear of being exposed as anything less than the great and wonderful being you truly are, then how does IS manifest itself. Well, the most common ways we see it manifest itself is in self-sabotage, self-doubt, fear of trying, fear of success, fear of failure. Sound familiar? Think about it. You just started a new job or you just got promoted, or given the COVID times, you’re being asked to perform different work at the same title and salary. You’re excited about the new opportunities yet something holds you back. Often, it’s the idea that if you try something new and fail, you will be judged as incompetent. What happens for people with Imposter Syndrome is that their thought process goes something like this: “I don’t know if I can do this. If I ask for help people will think I don’t know how to do my job and then they’ll think that I shouldn’t have this job and if that happens, then I can lose my job.” Then, that person with IS stays small because they don’t want to try something new. They don’t try new things for fear of being discovered. They stay safe. And that in turn keeps them staying small, meaning smaller than they have the potential to be. It’s an awful vicious cycle and at the end of every day, people with IS feel defeated, scared, anxious, fearful of losing what they have because they believe that if people only knew who they really were, they would be in trouble. Ouch. That hurts. Does this sound familiar? Here are some signs you suffer from IS:You feel like a fraudYou are a people pleaserYou feel that you lucked into any success you haveYou don’t think you are credentialed enoughYou don’t feel like you do enoughYou don’t talk about what you’ve succeeded or accomplishedAgain, sound like you? When Executive Coaches talk about IS, we look at the different archetypes that we see most often. If you are tracking with me, some of these may feel familiar to you.Are you a perfectionist? -When I say the word perfectionist, what do you think? Usually, we think someone who has every detail of every project under control, someone who micromanages so that if the success happens, it happens for that person, so that if it fails, you can blame yourself because blaming yourself fits with the narrative of you not deserving of your success because you’re a fraud. Working for a perfectionist boss often means you don’t get to do your entire job; you’re working for someone who is afraid to provide autonomy for you and more. When we identify together that you’re a perfectionist, we look at the list of things you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t. Why? Because if we get you to work on trying those things, we will bust through the illusion that you are not worthy and that you will succeed with effort. This helps you get beyond your comfort zone, and for perfectionists, this is a key area of work. Are you a Worker Bee?-When I say worker bee, I am talking about someone who works so much, works so hard to accomplish something. The worker bee shows their worth through their efforts and the results don’t matter as much because if the worker bee is working hard, then the results are someone else’s thing. When we were in offices, you can identify the worker bee so quickly. It's the first person in the office and the last person out of the office. It's the person who looks at you with a weird look when you leave for lunch, leave to go work out, meet friends or prioritize family time because you’re not working as hard, clearly, right? You know this person. Could it be you? Just a little bit?See, the worker bee is afraid that if she doesn’t work harder than anyone else, then she won’t be recognized. In her head she hears something like this from her boss: “You are such a hard worker. I really appreciate all the time you put into the work.” In reality, the additional work time produces marginal improvements at most, and the real tragedy is that the worker bee doesn’t yet realize her worth has to do with her results, her trying new things, her integrated life producing more contentment. The stress, no one pays you for that.Ok, here’s a fun one. Are you gifted?-So, what’s a gifted? A gifted is someone who knows everything without having to learn it. You know, they were born that way. Let me tell you something. I have twin girls that are in elementary school. Having twins, heck, having kids is the biggest joy of my life. But I see that one of them thinks that if she doesn’t automatically know what to do, she’s not going to do it because she will never be good at it. She’s not gifted she says to me. Now, she may be cursed by having an Exec Coach as a dad, because I work to help her understand that we are not born automatically knowing things others don’t and that experts become experts because they work routinely to get things done and work to get better and better every time they do that thing again. So, when people say someone is gifted, it’s most likely because that person has been doing that thing so for so long that they've made it look easy to people. Think about Edison and his thousands of patents. Think about all the athletes who work hard every day. The pop stars that are overnight successes until you learn they’ve been singing at church since they were 13 and spent the past 10 years touring the country and now, you’re hearing about them. Are you a loner?A loner will not ask for help and will most likely downplay their needs. Imagine this exchange: Hey Ashley, need help with that project? I know it’s due in two days and there’s a lot of work?” Ashley, in this example, may say “no thanks, I got it” when in reality she is saying no thanks because she’s afraid to accept help because she will be exposed as weak or worse. So, Ashely overcommits and underdelivers, thus supporting her narrative that she doesn't get it done because she’s a fake. Are you an expert? Experts tire people. They tire people because they may think they need to know everything in order to do anything. So, bosses wait for them to start the project. And wait. And wait. And then we ask them where they are, and they say they’re on it, but what they’re really on is Google learning more about whatever it is that has them stumped. For experts, being an expert is all there is, and if they’re not expert, well, they feel less than, maybe even like they are just not important, smart enough. You may be thinking that if Imposters are everywhere, how come we don’t talk about it more? Well, that’s a good question. Talking about imposter syndrome is tough because often the reason for the feelings are rooted in our childhood and many people just don’t want to go there. Let me say this: while Coaches don’t go to the why of a current challenge, instead we focus on how to overcome obstacles to get you where you want to go, this is a good place though for us to talk a little bit about your formative experiences to understand how you got to this place and so we can work together to create pathways around these obstacles to your greatness. I had this client a while ago who told me that she had an amazing childhood. I listened to her share that her parents were great, they just set the bar really high, put her into a very rigorous and structured school with limits on what women could do compared to men, and that she now has challenges with authority and trying new things. We discussed that there may be some Imposter Syndrome at play and she was floored. When we talked about it, many of the messages she heard came back to her, and we were able to do the good work to crush those limiting beliefs and move forward. So, how do you overcome Imposter Syndrome?I tell my Clients that we overcome it by working through it. I don’t think we ever totally eliminate those thoughts. Some of those thoughts I described help us. It’s when the thoughts keep us small, immobilize us so we don’t make forward motions, that they get in the way. So here’s what we can do:Review your current values and beliefsLook at your actions and behaviorsThink about the outcomes you have todayThen, Review the new values and beliefs that inspire the person you want to be (like, “I am capable”Think about the new behaviors and actions you want to doAnd visualize the outcomes you want to have Once you’ve visualized the future, you can do the following:When a negative thought like “I can’t do this because it will mean that I don’t know what I’m doing” occurs, ask yourself “what evidence exists that is true? I have been successful in the past when I’ve done something similar so why not today?” So, reframe those old thoughts as learnings and not failures.Remember that everyone goes up a learning curve and that for some people it is steeper than for others, and that’s normal!I like to name my Imposter. I call it “Sh!thead” because when I say that word it makes me notice how silly it is to hear it. I’m not that I say!Listen, if you feel like an imposter chance are you are not stepping into your full power, your full potential, and as they say in the world of sales, that means you’re not providing a service the world really wants.

https://www.1001songsthatmakeyouwanttodie.com/Chibbs, Dan, Xav & Bevo get stuck into Nicklebacks How You Remind Me.Bio:"How You Remind Me" is a song by Canadian rock band Nickelback. It was released on August 21, 2001 as the lead single from their third studio album Silver Side Up (2001). A "Gold Mix" was made for latter editions of the single with the heavier guitars edited out of the chorus. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chad Kroeger wrote the song about his old girlfriend Jodi, with whom he had a dysfunctional relationship. He referred to this song as the song that put Nickelback on the map when played at their concert in Sturgis, South Dakota, and it is often considered to be their signature song.Lyrics:Never made it as a wise manI couldn't cut it as a poor man stealingTired of living like a blind manI'm sick of sight without a sense of feelingAnd this is how you remind meThis is how you remind me of what I really amThis is how you remind me of what I really amIt's not like you to say sorryI was waiting on a different storyThis time I'm mistakenFor handing you a heart worth breakingAnd I've been wrongI've been downInto the bottom of every bottleThese five words in my head screamAre we having fun yetYet, yet, yet, no noYet, yet, yet, no noIt's not like you didn't know thatI said I love you and I swear I still doAnd it must have been so bad'Cause living with him must have damn near killed youAnd this is how you remind me of what I really amThis is how you remind me of what I really amIt's not like you to say sorryI was waiting on a different storyThis time I'm mistakenFor handing you a heart worth breakingAnd I've been wrongI've been downInto the bottom of every bottleThese five words in my head, screamAre we having fun yetYet, yet, yet, no noYet, yet, yet, no noYet, yet, yet, no noYet, yet, yet, no noNever made it as a wise manI couldn't cut it as a poor man stealingAnd this is how you remind meThis is how you remind meThis is how you remind me of what I really amThis is how you remind me of what I really amIt's not like you to say sorryI was waiting on a different storyThis time I'm mistakenFor handing you a heart worth breakingAnd I've been wrongI've been downInto the bottom of every bottleThese five words in my head, screamAre we having fun yetYet, yetAre we having fun yetYet, yetAre we having fun yetYet, yetAre we having fun yetYet, yet, no, noVideo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cQh1ccqu8MFollow us on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: @1001songsthatmakeyouwanttodie Email us with any song suggestions: 1001songsthatmakeyouwanttodie@gmail.comSupport the show (https://paypal.me/pools/c/8p4yD1sVwP)
We have a tendency to romanticize Bible stories. As each unfolds in our mind, they do so on a big screen with an epic soundtrack and dynamic visual effects. We often miss that each one took place on an average day, in a regular neighborhood, and in the lives of common people, just like you and me. But they were common people with remarkable qualities. And it was those remarkable qualities that positioned those common people to experience God giving birth to the miraculous in their lives! This series is to draw your attention to those common people, to see the us in them, and do lean into their remarkable qualities so that His eternal purposes can come to life in our lives.Matthew 2:1–12 (ESV) Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.A Few “Myths” In Our Manger Scenes:The word for wise men is MAGI. The word describes people with an unusual capacity of understanding based on astronomy, science, alchemy and spirituality functioning in the service of the King. These men were from the region of Babylon, part of ancient Mesopotamia, modern-day city of Baghdad in Iraq. This was historically a breeding ground for such individuals as seen in the Biblical narratives of individuals including the prophet Balaam and the likes of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were in service to the king and served as liaisons to the surrounding nations. There were likely not three men. There were at least two because “MAGI” is plural. The idea of three MAGI is likely based on the three gifts given, but there was most likely a small caravan of MAGI and their team. The wise men did not arrive at the stable. They did not greet Jesus while He was lying in the manger. Realistically, Jesus was two years old and was visited by the MAGI while living in a house (Matthew 2:11). That means that the depiction of MAGI standing in the stable, with angels, with shepherds or with barn animals is inaccurate. The depiction of their journey being across grassy hills and sloping meadows under a bright star is incorrect. The MAGI crossed some of the most extreme desert areas and conditions on the planet, mountains, cliffs and extreme freezing temperatures. While they saw the star initially, it disappeared. As a result, they headed to Jerusalem where Herod, the current king resided. While they knew what the star represented, they did not know the prophecies stating that the Messiahs’ birthplace would be in Bethlehem. After dialoguing with Herod in Jerusalem, the made their way toward Bethlehem, and in the process, the star reappearedMatthew 2:9 (ESV) After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.The star that appeared in Matthew 2:9 was clearly not an astronomical star. Stars don’t rise in the west, nor do they hover in the earth’s atmosphere and come to rest over residences. It was likely a supernatural sign they experienced, much like the Israelites experienced with the pillar and cloud while travelling through the wilderness. Common People With Remarkable Qualities:The Wise Men Continually Positioned Themselves To Hear From Heaven. They were not necessarily godly men, but they WERE listening to Heaven. They knew about a significant star that was to appear when the Messiah was born. They were knew scripture because they knew the significance of the star: Matthew 2:2 (ESV) saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”How did they know about the star?Balaam contracted by Balak, king of Moab from the region of Babylon to curse the Israelites as they travelled through to the Promised Land.Balaam was a wise man based in Pethor near the Euphrates and close to Babylon. Balaam was warned by God not to curse Israel, and instead blessed them three times: Numbers 24:17 (ESV) I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: A STAR SHALL COME OUT OF JACOB, AND A SCEPTER SHALL RISE OUT OF ISRAEL; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.Balaam was likely of the ranks of wise men from that region.Their understanding of the coming Messiah would have been further informed by Daniel’s oversight and teaching. Daniel, after being deported to the same region, and after being thrown into the lions den, rose to become chief of the wise men, shaping their teaching and instruction.Daniel 9:25–26 (ESV) Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem TO THE COMING OF AN ANOINTED ONE, A PRINCE, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed. The star stirred something, but they leaned in further, and further, and further. They researched, the gathered a team, they journeyed to Jerusalem. They talked to Herod. One step led to the next and the next.Hearing God’s voice becomes easier and easier as you intentionally lean in to Him. Matthew 2:10 (ESV) When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.Jeremiah 29:12–14 (ESV) Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord… Hebrews 11:6 (ESV) … and that he rewards those who seek him.2020 will be a year of pressing in, and finding the better than you can imagine, the unexpected, the miraculous! The Wise Men Were Guided By Strong Conviction, The Result Of A God-Breathed Vision. The Wise Men heard something from heaven and believed it.They were not satisfied to have the head knowledge, they wanted to experience it first-hand.There were committed to experiencing it, regardless of cost.it cost considerable energy: approximately 732 miles; 239 walking hours; 30 travel days of 8 hours a day.it cost considerable time: preparations beforehand, the time gone.it cost considerable resources: the cost of a caravan over that periodtoo often we believe things about God that don’t actually affect how we act.KNOWLEDGE only needs information but VISION is impartation! Impartation happens as you get close enough for something to become a part of who you are.The Wise Men didn’t just hear about heaven, they leaned in far enough that heaven began to rub off on themThe wise men got a dose of VISION.VISION develops conviction that cannot be deterred by things like distraction, cost or even opposition! The Wise Men Were “Worshippers”worship is so much more than what we during the music on a Sunday, but it is a part of it. Are you guilty of being a worshipper???Matthew 2:11 (ESV) And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.fall down – prostrateworshipped – to express by attitude and action ones allegiance to and regard for deity.gave fits of gold, frankincense and myrrh – great expense! In their case, Jesus did them no miracle, had answered no prayer, had healed no disease, had saved them from no dire situation, had not forgiven a single sin.In their case there was no Holy Spirit for them to have a sense of His presence like we doAnd yet, they worshipped Him for who he was ALONE! and it was extravagant!Unlike them, we not only know who He is, but we’ve experienced what He’s done! “RESERVED” worship runs the risk of INNOCULATION instead of the INFECTION of heaven.Passive worship goes just far enough to satisfy the internal itch and external expectations. It never goes far enough to be the appropriate response that unlocks all that heaven has!I want to worship in a way that is an appropriate response: physical, audible, visible, emotional, energetic, faith filled, cost me something, expenseivethey gave gold, frankincense, myrrh. gold: customary for royal visits.Sheba visited king Solomon = 120 talents, 7936 lbs or $186,273,792How much gold would the wise men have brought Jesus?Jeremiah 33:2–3 (The Message) “This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’
Podcast: Where to Place Your Profit TargetIn this video:00:24 – Trading from Nelson, NZ00:48 – We talk about stop losses but what about profit targets?01:30 – What you should not do02:10 – How do you know where to place your profit target?04:14 – Trading the longer time frame charts06:07 – Contact me for more details about how we can help youDo you know where you should be placing your profit target and why you should be placing your profit target at that level? Let's talk about that and more right now.Hey, traders. It's Andrew Mitchem here from The Forex Trading Coach with video and podcast number 339.Trading from Nelson, NZComing to you from Nelson in the South Island where we're just setting up here. I've got a webinar tonight for clients, and just setting up in a new property that we're moving into, and not quite there yet. We'll be here properly in a couple of months from now, but just getting things set up in the office here. Hence the change in the background and just the two screens, not four.We talk about stop losses but what about profit targets? So yeah, we want to talk about profit targets. We talk a lot about stop losses. And stop losses, of course, are very important, because without a stop loss you're not protecting your trade, and without knowing where you're putting your stop loss, you don't know the position size you need, the lot size you need to keep your risk equal. But also another very difficult part of trading is where to put your profit target and why, and how do you decide where to put your profit target? What determines that? Does it determine by the currency pair, the timeframe, the conditions at the time? What is it that you do to determine that? And you can't just sort of make it up on the go. You've got to have a bit of a plan about this. What you should not doAnd also, we talk a lot about high reward to risk trades, and it's very important that you don't just go, "I've got a 20 pip stop loss, so I need to put a 40 pip or a 60 pip profit target," simply because you hear me talk about you need a two or three to one reward to risk trade. It's important that you don't do that.Yes, you need high reward to risk out of your trade, but you need to also put your profit target at a level that's a sensible level for a reason for that trade at that time. And that might be different depending on the currency pair or the timeframe, market conditions, et cetera. So how do you know? How do you know where to place your profit target? So it's really important that we get this right, because, of course, it can make or break your trading performance. And the whole point of a profit target is is when the price gets there, the market closes you for a profit and you haven't got to be at your computer worrying about the trade being open and those type of things. So it's important that we do that. So, how do we approach that? Well, because we're technical traders, we're always looking at price action and we're looking at charts. It'd be very difficult as a news trader, I would imagine, to know exactly where to put your profit target, because it depends on the reaction of that news, things like that. Whereas technical traders, we've got a lot of things that's actually in our favour. We can see, let's say you're taking a buy trade, of where the price last bounced. For example, where's the next likely resistance level? But the approach that we take at The Forex Trading Coach is two-fold. So if we're trading, and we split our trading up. If we're trading one-hour charts and shorter, which, to be honest, personally I don't do a lot of, but if we were, we're looking at current market momentum, we're looking at what's happening in the market right now, because on an hour chart or a 15-minute chart, you don't want to be worrying about retracements and ...

Proverbs 13:4 says: "The soul of the sluggard desireth and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat." Charles Wesley wrote: A charge to keep I have,A God to glorify,A never-dying soul to save,And fit it for the sky. To serve the present age,My calling to fulfill:Oh, may it all my pow’rs engageTo do my Master’s will! Today, we are continuing with part 3 of the section titled, "Attitude Adjustment". "Doing It Now" is written in a conversation format, and today’s conversation starter is: You mentioned the varieties of procrastination. Isn't there just one variety—namely, putting things off? No. There is one result, but there are a number of causes. I think the causes of procrastination can be grouped into four categories: First are the attitudinal factors, which include such things as: unwillingness to tolerate discomfort or unpleasantness, fear of failure, fear of success, low self-esteem, depression, boredom, shyness, and feelings of guilt. Second are the cognitive blocks such as: inadequate information, unclear priorities, indecision, uncertainty about how to attack the problem, and failure to appreciate the importance of timely action. Third are environmental conditions or external factors that encourage delay. They include: clutter, disorganization, noise, unmanageable workloads, diversionary activities, lack of needed tools, and friends or relatives who lure one from the chosen task. Fourth, there are the physiological barriers to timely action, including fatigue, stress, and illness. Each instance of procrastination involves one or more of these. If you can pin down the cause of your procrastination, you will have taken a big step toward overcoming it and replacing it with the habit of prompt action. Then it won't be necessary for anyone ever to say of you: He slept beneath the moon,He basked beneath the sun;He lived a life of going-to-doAnd died with nothing done. Such as? Such as the belief that one is "just a born procrastinator," the assumption that we are dealing with an innate character defect that we are helpless to correct. We must stop excusing ourselves with the fallacious argument that we are the victims of genetic or environmental factors condemning us to the role of the legendary character who goes through life "a dollar short and a day late." But isn't there considerable truth in the assumption—for some people at least? Aren't all of us born with certain weaknesses? And if our weakness happens to be procrastination, shouldn't we accept it and just try to make the best of it? Why this compulsion to make ourselves over, instead of relaxing, and enjoying life? What's wrong with the philosophy of the old song, "Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be..."? Que sera, sera is a lovely song, but a lousy philosophy. Nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished by anybody who met life with a shrug and an attitude of "whatever will be will be." There are plenty of people who do choose that approach, of course, but they are the zombies. Instead of that motto, your slogan should be, "Que quiero sera"—whatever I will, will be.

Fiddler's Greenwords and music by John Conolly As I roved by the dockside one evening so fairTo view the salt waters and take in the salt airI heard an old fisherman singing a songOh, take me away boys me time is not long Wrap me up in me oilskin and blanketsNo more on the docks I'll be seenJust tell me old shipmates, I'm taking a trip matesAnd I'll see you someday on Fiddlers Green Now Fiddler's Green is a place I've heard tellWhere the fishermen go if they don't go to hellWhere the weather is fair and the dolphins do playAnd the cold coast of Greenland is far, far away Now when you're in dock and the long trip is throughThere's pubs and there's clubs and there's lassies there tooAnd the girls are all pretty and the beer is all freeAnd there's bottles of rum growing on every tree. Where the skies are all clear and there's never a gailAnd the fish jump on board with one swish on their tailWhere you lie at your leisure, there's no work to doAnd the skipper's below making tea for the crew Now I don't want a harp nor a halo, not meJust give me a breeze and a good rolling seaI'll play me old squeeze-box as we sail alongWith the wind in the riggin to sing me a song Lyrics to Fiddler's Green found here.
