In this episode we had the opportunity to speak to Graham Tuttle, a trainer who helps people move and feel better. His goal is to figure out this athleticism thing and how he can teach it to the people like him who missed that boat early on in life, and also work to create a more well rounded understanding of health and aging with activity. You see, as a kid starts to develop an awareness that they can control outcomes and not get hurt by not participating, they become more stiff and uncertain, while the kids who are more “Tarzan” looking can roll around and are just more loose and ready to tackle the physical challenges they face. Sports in high school then vs now 5:50Triangulating and balance 15:10Sports have created a monopoly on athleticism 31:00Becoming the barefoot sprinter 42:20“A relationship with the ground is one of being able to relax and melt into a harder, flat, non-yielding surface to some extent, which we try to then soften with shoes, and orthotics, and the big pillows and mattresses and paved surfaces and carpet, and all that stuff. So it's ironic to look at the progression in that sense, but it is a rejection of the sensation of the ground.” 34:10grahamtuttle.com@thebarefootsprinter
This week I speak with Graham Tuttle, also known as 'The Barefoot Sprinter'. He shares the story of how he came to do the work he does today, we talk about coaching, athleticism and the benefits of barefoot, we share our definitions of health and go off on a few relevant and juicy tangents. We also talk about the notion of feeling unqualified when doing something for the first time and the full circle journey of exploring complexity to gain knowledge, only to return to the simple after carving out wisdom and truth through experience. I really enjoyed speaking with Graham and hope you enjoy listening.Helpful links: Foot health program - fix your feet with our ultimate 42-day guided program Join the community - free education, training and support Shop - TFC tools and training (Use the code R2E10 to save 10%) Fountain - Earn money while you listen to our podcast Follow us: Instagram TikTok YouTube Facebook Audio: Quote - Allan Watts Music: Dream Chaser - Lunareh Written By - Wiriyapa Chansuwong Performed & Produced By - LunarehDestiny Beach - Cody MartinWritten by - Cody Kurtz MartinPerformed & Produced By - Cody Kurtz Martin

Ever wonder what happens if you stop wearing shoes and go about your life…barefoot? In this episode of the Align podcast, Graham Tuttle and I chat about foot freedom and how it directly impacts life. We talk about the different ways to unpack the feet and the common mistakes when doing it, as well as, peripersonal space. Plus, Graham explains what Plantar fasciitis is and the treatment options available to help reduce symptoms. Lastly, we touch on how we measure safety through the amount of money someone makes. Graham Tuttle, AKA the Barefoot Sprinter, is a coach that specializes in building better athletes from the ground up through a focus on intrinsic foot strength. Inspired by his own experience from years of struggling with sports injuries and refusing that conventional, status quo “fixes” were the answer, Graham embarked on a journey to figure out exactly why injuries in sports happen, and how to prevent them. 3:25 - What are the overarching facts on why we wear shoes? 10:22 - Human optimization trope 15:50 - Does “foot freedom” affect how a person engages in life? 21:04 - Why is it important to treat trust as a physical being? 24:53 - Can an insulated culture cause more damage in the long run? 29:20 - Peripersonal space and when does the body feel safe again? 32:28 - What are ways to “unpack the feet”? 47:54 - Could we use money as a measure on how we cultivate life and safety? 52:22 - How can making more money help you say no? 1:07:45 - Where do you start checking when you are in pain? 1:16:41 - What is “Plantar Fasciitis” and why it happens? 1:20:32 - What are treatment options for plantar fasciitis and other foot conditions? 1:28:47 - What are the most common mistake when unpacking the feet? 1:33:01 - What are the technicalities of sprinting? We put on shoes one day and never took them off. Our shoes became narrower, the heels elevated and our feet paid the price for it all. Graham Tuttle, aka “The Barefoot Sprinter”, joins us on today's episode to educate us on how and why traditional shoes are causing our feet to become weaker, and how implementing some specific training and exercises can repair our broken feet and ultimately help prevent a wide variety of injuries. Nick and Graham also discuss different types of shoes and how they all serve a specific purpose, and how we can differentiate daily wear, training, and competition shoes. I love running barefoot. There was a time when I thought I may never be able to run again without enduring a week of painful walking afterwards. Graham Tuttle gets this and coaches people on how to run, move, and listen to their bodies to become the best advocates for their health.
Epic Conversation Today! Joined today by Graham Tuttle, aka the BAREFOOT SPRINTER, an epic high energy dude with a LOT of insight into intrinsic foot strength and sprinting power! Co-hosted by Anthony Manuele and Dr. William Rajbar, the foremost podcast opening discussion about the most innovative ways to train, and move. your body. I'm a coach that's been constantly working on building better athletes by fixing pain. My major program is a foot fix process called Ready To Run to restore functional feet. I mainly focus on developing better fascial strength and integrity in the body for an athletic foundation. I'm working on a similar process for the hands and pelvic floor as well! Apart from that, I went to University of North Carolina and Chapel Hill for a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and have been working as a coach for almost 10 years. "Currently I work as a chiropractor in Banff Alberta, however my passion is human movement/biomechanics. I put theory into TEST to find out what works and what doesn't. The Bruce Lee quote “take whats useful and disregard the rest” is how I find movement truth. The ultimate truth is in the movement not the theory, it has to work in reality. Now Running/Gait mechanics and martial arts (especially boxing) is how I test truth in movement; theory is always put to the test! From my teenage years into my late 20s, I spent significant time within mainstream fitness practices such as Crossfit, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, gymnastics, and bodybuilding, not in that particular order. I have also spent time playing soccer, boxing, skiing amongst other sports. Having stacked many injuries in my teens/20s from improper training, I was led on a journey into chiropractic and sports injuries. I have worked with 1000s of injured patients in 8 years of chiropractic practice and have seen many injuries in the gym as a former Crossfit coach for 5 years. I've now spent 1000's of hours learning and practicing systems such as Functional Range Conditioning, Weckmethod and Goata. Goata has my interest at the moment, as I see it as a platform for a new Paradigm in movement. I believe we (Experts) are using incorrect maps of movement, therefore injuries are prevalent in sport and life. I will always test and retest in my own theories in real movement. Join me on my journey to change the movement game for the public and experts." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-art-of-move/message

In todays episode we sit down with Graham Tuttle!Graham is a Coach much like myself but he actually only started his athletic career 5-6 years ago. Growing up he was actually the exact opposite of an athlete, this however, was only due to some physical struggles he had growing up.When Graham was 2 years old he got his pair of glasses because he had terrible vision. As a result growing up wearing glasses he didn't have very much peripheral vision, this stunted his athletic ability greatly. It wasn't until much later in Graham's life that he started lifting as his way into starting his athletic journey.Graham started with weightlifting because you didn't really need vision for lifting, you can be quite intuitive and "feel" the weight as you lift more than any sport that required hand eye coordination. But something funny happened.Once he started lifting he realized that he is capable of making changes in his body and any aspect of his life he was lacking in only needed the skill development to get there. This was Graham's wind behind his sails and this started his athletic career.Graham now is an ATG Endorsed Coach and has a running program specific to helping people gain strength, mobility and confidence in their running ability in 28 days that we talked about on todays show.We dove deep into the aspect of your foot, and why strengthening them is so foundational to ones life. We get into the history of wear the first foam sole shoe came from and how Americans are degrading their foot strength since the birth of this foam sole shoe.We talk about how you can start improving your foot health today with 3 tips Graham shares in the podcast and much more!If you want to check out more of Graham's content you can find him @grahamtuttle.cscsI hope you enjoy the show!
