Send us a textWhat if the key to lasting fitness success isn't found in the latest workout trend, but in understanding your identity? In this episode, Michael Kurkowski—strength coach with 15 years of experience and host of The Strength Connection podcast—shares powerful insights into the psychology behind sustainable progress. After a hip injury as a teenager led him down a path of rehabilitation and movement quality, Michael discovered the transformative power of proper assessment and mindset work. He explains how the pandemic revealed a widespread struggle with autonomy in training and how true change stems not just from tactics, but from a deep belief in one's ability to grow. Through stories of elite athletes, the power of fundamentals, and his own evolution from structured training to earned autonomy, Michael offers practical wisdom for coaches and everyday fitness enthusiasts alike. This conversation dives deep into building confidence through mastery, creating habits that stick, and connecting physical strength to every other part of life.Connect with Michael: The ONE Day Strength Challenge5 Minute Mindsetwww.mystrengthconnection.com @michael_strengthconnectionStrength Connection Podcast (Apple)Strength Connection Podcast (Spotify) Support the showPRIMAL FOUNDATIONS PODCAST-Instagram: @Tony_PrimalFoundationsWebsite: Primalfoundations.com The Strength Kollective: Download Kettlebell Programs (Click Here)Book a free 30 minutes consultation (Click Here)

About Michael Kurkowski I'm truly grateful to be able to do what I do everyday! After being an active athlete for most of my life, I found a passion for the health and fitness world early on. When I was 23 years old, I had a personal trainer, who taught me about functional movement training, and he asked if I was ever interested in pursuing a career in fitness. This started my journey of 15 years from personal training, to managing a team of 15 coaches, then building a studio with a great friend, to pivoting during Covid and creating multiple online training businesses and two podcasts. http://www.mystrengthconnection.com/ https://podmatch.com/hostdetail/1663100640545x590806995957614100 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPISQFKk7HHIwVyyeWCwE9g ------------------------------------------------------ About Austin Holmes This is Austin Holmes, President of Publicity For Good and CEO of Signal Raptor. On this episode of The Art of Living Proactively (Harnessing the Power of Your Choices), Tony Winyard talks to Michael Kurkowski, a coach who focuses on physical training programs, nutrition programs, and mindset practices. Michael's approach prioritizes empowering his clients to take responsibility and become autonomous in their fitness journey. They discuss the lack of autonomy as a problem in the fitness industry, the importance of having a coach, and cultural attitudes towards celebrating success. Michael also emphasizes the importance of mental training, not just physical, rebuilding self-belief, and starting with small incremental steps towards goals. Listen in to learn how you can make lasting progress towards your fitness goals. About Michael I'm truly grateful to be able to do what I do everyday! During the Covid Lockdown, I saw a major disconnect between how we were coaching our members and what they truly needed to succeed in their strength, regardless of what happens in life. We were teaching all the right things, but we weren't making our members part of their own process, and showing them how to be self-sufficient. This prompted me to dive deep into studying the mental, emotional, and spiritual side of strength, leading me to BioFeedback and Intuitive training. Most health and fitness programs have been designed for the individual to mold their lives around the program. This is the exact opposite of what is sustainable for continuous progress and mastery in everyday life. My goal is to help teach others that strength is not just one thing. It is a connection of all things in our lives, and everyone is capable of achieving it Full shownotes including a transcription available at: https://tonywinyard.com/michael-kurkowski/ The Art of Living Proactively (Harnessing the Power of Your Choices) links: Website - tonywinyard.com Facebook Page - facebook.com/TonyWinyard.HabitsAndHealth Facebook Group - facebook.com/groups/habitshealth Twitter - @TonyWinyard Instagram - @tony.winyard LinkedIn - uk.linkedin.com/in/tonywinyard YouTube How to leave a podcast review - tonywinyard.com/how-to-leave-a-podcast-review/ Details of online workshops to create habits for health - tonywinyard.com/training/ Are you in control of your habits or are they in control of you? Imagine waking up every morning with unwavering confidence that you are making all the right choices for yourself. Picture yourself in complete control of your fitness journey, feeling the satisfaction of seeing results each day. How would it feel to let go of guilt when plans change? How amazing would it be to no longer seek answers but instead realize that you are reaching your full potential every single day? Often, we find ourselves adopting various nutrition, training, meditation, and mindset programs, yet our core identity and self-limiting beliefs remain unchanged. Unless we address and overcome these limitations, all the healthy practices we incorporate will yield little impact. We must shift our mindset and transform our limiting beliefs to truly see a change. Transformation is not confined to a fitness program. It begins when we release our limiting beliefs and embrace the power within us to create the life we desire. By believing in ourselves and trusting the process, we open doors to endless possibilities. In this conversation with Michael Kurkowski, we explore intuitive training, breaking free from limiting beliefs, nurturing our autonomy, and reprogramming our thoughts to manifest our transformation. Michael is a strength trainer with over 14 years of experience and has worked with numerous individuals in kettlebell training, strength conditioning, athletics, and nutrition. He is fervent about simplifying the complexities of health and fitness to help people achieve their goals and take full control of their strength in life, no matter their obstacles. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Strategies that will help you elevate your fitness, foster consistency, and achieve your desired results. How to be intuitive with your body needs and be flexible with your training to harness consistency. How to reprogram your thoughts to transform your identity and solidify training using mastery. How to enhance your autonomy and be self-sufficient and self-confident in manifesting your own transformation. And much more! “If you don't recover from a limiting identity, then it doesn't matter how much you discover. All the food and training you prescribe to yourself will not do anything for you if we don't change your limiting mindset.” – Michael Kurkowski Topics Covered: 00:35 – About Michael and how he got into the health and fitness space 04:58 – Intuitive training and harnessing consistency 08:27 – Being flexible with your training without feeling like a failure 10:45 – How physical fitness can lead to injury and demoralization 13:30 – Programming thoughts with Michael's four pillars of mastery 16:54 – Matching your thoughts with your actions and habits 19:15 – Why Michael‘s work of helping people is so important to him 22:03 – Breaking free from self-limiting patterns 26:05 – Embracing autonomy in creating your transformation 30:43 – Kettlebells and why they are Michael‘s favorite modalities 34:20 – How to connect with Michael and get his book Key Takeaways When you elevate yourself, watch out for sabotage self-talk that can bring you down; it is sneaky and powerful. When we shed our limiting beliefs, we become completely different persons. Transformation doesn't happen in a fitness program; it happens the moment we release our limiting beliefs. Whatever it is that you can give to somebody and add some good value to their life, do it.
