The year is 2027. Cyborgs roam the streets of the America/Japan Corporate Union. The Red Army Hammerheads, a cyborg separatist group plans... a murder of some kind? And only Alex Rain, who is also a cyborg, but not as much of a cyborg as the other ones, is the only man/83% cyborg, who can stop... the cyborgs, who we think might be 100% cyborg, but that would make them robots. We can't be sure, but the sunglasses and trench coats are defiantly a vibe. ANYWAY.... Join the boys as they try to decipher a movie that we know, for sure, is a 1992 cyberpunk action film directed by the great Albert Pyun, starting Oliver (pronounced Olivie-ay) Gruner, that was once described as "A story told by an 8 year old that had reached into a bag of sci-fi tropes from the 80's, and is just making it up as he goes along" by one of the hosts of this podcast. "Nemesis" can be seen in full, for free, on Youtube. Watch along with us so that you too, can be "State of the Fucking Art".

For this special Q&A episode of The Augmented Life, Michael Tiffany and his co-founder, Ash Kalb decided to take a break from the usual format and put themselves in the hot seat. Together they tackled some of the biggest, most pressing questions from Fulcra's audience—questions that sit at the bleeding edge of biohacking, personal optimization, and the future of human augmentation.
This week Dr. Surekha Davies joins in to talk about a different way of seeing human history--through monsters. According to her, Monsters are central to how we think about the human condition. So our conversation reveals how people have defined the human in relation to everything from apes to zombies, and how they invented race, gender, and nations along the way. And to do so, we are talking about one of the very best Pixar films ever made: Monsters, Inc. This episode is so good that it's scary.About our guest:Dr. Surekha Davies is a British author, speaker, and historian of science, art, and ideas. Her first book, Renaissance Ethnography and the Invention of the Human, won the Morris D. Forkosch Prize for the best first book in intellectual history from the Journal of the History of Ideas and the Roland H. Bainton Prize in History and Theology. She has written essays and reviews about the histories of biology, anthropology, and monsters in the Times Literary Supplement, Nature, Science, and Aeon.

It is difficult to believe that our planet has been weaponized before our very eyes, but that is exactly what has happened. First, we were seduced by the convenience of a wireless world; then, atmospheric weather experimentation in the guise of carbons “climate change” converted the air we breathe into an antenna. Now, the geo-engineering we've been subjected to for two decades is being normalized as the “Star Wars” Space Fence rises around and within us. Is this the Space Age we were promised?
In this engaging conversation on the Crazy Wisdom podcast, Stewart Alsop talks with neurologist Brian Ahuja about his work in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, the intricate science of brainwave patterns, and the philosophical implications of advancing technology. From the practical applications of neuromonitoring in surgery to broader topics like transhumanism, informed consent, and the integration of technology in medicine, the discussion offers a thoughtful exploration of the intersections between science, ethics, and human progress. Brian shares his views on AI, the medical field's challenges, and the trade-offs inherent in technological advancement. To follow Brian's insights and updates, you can find him on Twitter at @BrianAhuja.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:21 Understanding Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring00:59 Exploring Brainwaves: Alpha, Beta, Theta, and Gamma03:25 The Impact of Alcohol and Benzodiazepines on Sleep07:17 The Evolution of Remote Neurophysiological Monitoring09:19 Transhumanism and the Future of Human-Machine Integration16:34 Informed Consent in Medical Procedures18:46 The Intersection of Technology and Medicine24:37 Remote Medical Oversight25:59 Real-Time Monitoring Challenges28:00 The Business of Medicine29:41 Medical Legal Concerns32:10 Alternative Medical Practices36:22 Philosophy of Mind and AI43:47 Advancements in Medical Technology48:55 Conclusion and Contact InformationKey InsightsIntraoperative Neurological Monitoring: Brian Ahuja introduced the specialized field of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, which uses techniques like EEG and EMG to protect patients during surgeries by continuously tracking brain and nerve activity. This proactive measure reduces the risk of severe complications like paralysis, showcasing the critical intersection of technology and patient safety.Brainwave Categories and Their Significance: The conversation provided an overview of brainwave patterns—alpha, beta, theta, delta, and gamma—and their connections to various mental and physical states. For instance, alpha waves correspond to conscious relaxation, while theta waves are linked to deeper relaxation or meditative states. These insights help demystify the complex language of neurophysiology.Transhumanism and the Cyborg Argument: Ahuja argued that humans are already "cyborgs" in a functional sense, given our reliance on smartphones as extensions of our minds. This segued into a discussion about the philosophical and practical implications of transhumanism, such as brain-computer interfaces like Neuralink and their potential to reshape human capabilities and interactions.Challenges of Medical Technology Integration: The hype surrounding medical technology advancements, particularly AI and machine learning, was critically examined. Ahuja highlighted concerns over inflated claims, such as AI outperforming human doctors, and stressed the need for grounded, evidence-based integration of these tools into healthcare.Philosophy of Mind and Consciousness: A recurring theme was the nature of consciousness and its central role in both neurology and AI research. The unresolved "hard problem of consciousness" raises ethical and philosophical questions about the implications of mimicking or enhancing human cognition through technology.Trade-offs in Technological Progress: Ahuja emphasized that no technological advancement is without trade-offs. While tools like CRISPR and mRNA therapies hold transformative potential, they come with risks like unintended consequences, such as horizontal gene transfer, and the ethical dilemmas of their application.Human Element in Medicine: The conversation underscored the importance of human connection in medical practice, particularly in neurology, where patients often face chronic and emotionally taxing conditions. Ahuja's reflections on the pitfalls of bureaucracy, private equity in healthcare, and the overemphasis on defensive medicine highlighted the critical need to prioritize patient-centered care in an increasingly technological and administrative landscape.

Recognizing the most important crimes takes practice. There is such a large, rich pool to choose from. All the glitz and glam is fake. They try to silence those without an NDA. It's not about the virus, it's about the cure. Using someone's crimes against them can be evil. Standing by and watching information get skewed is common. Helping only those who need help is in us. Lefty groups are planning stuff, and the cops are watching. Some chat rooms are all Feds. It's about erasing history. People are grifting on the pain of others. Things done to destroy us only makes us stronger. Changing history by stealing truths and re-dating the true facts. They are posturing for the control of narratives. The media is all distraction. Your States are not protecting you. Drones everywhere, but what data are they collecting? Vampires need to regenerate flesh because they are very old. Michael Casbolt tells some scary tales. Dr. Green and his spy assassin program. There are so many familiar names involved in all this evil. Satan decides who in the industry will succeed. Breaking away at lunch to sacrifice babies. The media conspires to put their candidate on top. Sen. Frank Church spilled the beans way back when. Obama is the Big Guy. There are distractions in abundance so stay focused. Truth must light our path to real justice and freedom.

What happens when artificial intelligence starts weighing in on our moral decisions? Matt Prewitt is joined by Meaning Alignment Institute co-founder Joe Edelman to explore this thought-provoking territory in examining how AI is already shaping our daily experiences and values through social media algorithms. They explore the tools developed to help individuals negotiate their values and the implications of AI in moral reasoning – venturing into compelling questions about human-AI symbiosis, the nature of meaningful experiences, and whether machines can truly understand what matters to us. For anyone intrigued by the future of human consciousness and decision-making in an AI-integrated world, this discussion opens up fascinating possibilities – and potential pitfalls – we may not have considered.Links & References: References:CouchSurfing - Wikipedia | CouchSurfing.org | WebsiteTristan Harris: How a handful of tech companies control billions of minds every day | TED TalkCenter for Humane Technology | WebsiteMEANING ALIGNMENT INSTITUTE | WebsiteReplika - AI Girlfriend/BoyfriendWill AI Improve Exponentially At Value Judgments? - by Matt Prewitt | RadicalxChangeMoral Realism (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)Summa Theologica - WikipediaWhen Generative AI Refuses To Answer Questions, AI Ethics And AI Law Get Deeply Worried | AI RefusalsAmanda Askell: The 100 Most Influential People in AI 2024 | TIME | Amanda Askells' work at AnthropicOvercoming Epistemology by Charles TaylorGod, Beauty, and Symmetry in Science - Catholic Stand | Thomas Aquinas on symmetryFriedrich Hayek - Wikipedia | “Hayekian”Eliezer Yudkowsky - Wikipedia | “AI policy people, especially in this kind Yudkowskyian scene”Resource-rational analysis: Understanding human cognition as the optimal use of limited computational resources | Resource rational (cognitive science term)Papers & posts mentioned[2404.10636] What are human values, and how do we align AI to them? | Paper by Oliver Klingefjord, Ryan Lowe, Joe EdelmanModel Integrity - by Joe Edelman and Oliver Klingefjord | Meaning Alignment Institute SubstackBios:Joe Edelman is a philosopher, sociologist, and entrepreneur whose work spans from theoretical philosophy to practical applications in technology and governance. At what point does a bum recovery journey transmogrify into a spiritual journey? Probably around the nine day mark, for John's continuing convalescence from his spooky procedure has gone beyond the physical. It's also led to him growing a beard and looking like a Russian chess prodigy, so swings and roundabouts…But what does excite John is the news that Elis has finally stepped into his first Sportage. Questions cascade forth from John's lips like a gushing waterfall, as Kia talk lifts the spirits of our recovering hero.Spirits are also lifted further through more great banter zone jet lag stories, a quite graphic bum story from a listener, and discussion about Robocop, naturally.Continue to send us your top quality correspondence to the usual address: elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk. Halloween is right around the corner, so what better way to celebrate than a deep dive into the ‘science' of ghost sightings? We touch on a bit of the psychology behind these experiences and then break down the equipment people use when searching for proof that spirits float among us, and how power lines and rats in walls muddy the specter detection waters. Then we switch to something a little more corporeal, but no less weird: cyborgs. Biohybrid robots hold a lot of potential, but their ethical use, especially when human tissues are involved, need to be carefully considered. Ok, this episode started out like a speeding locomotive slamming into a wall of brick covered bike horns, but what else would you expect when Dominic is here?! The gang is back to discuss Mark L. Lester's post-apocalyptic "Class Of 1999" and, much like the movie, this one is a hot mess....whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA. Oob here, guess who uploads the epsiodes.
