Shawn and David recap the stories of Loki. Starting with the more playful side of this Shadowy Trickster. Loki and Sif's hair. Loki and the birth of Slepnir. Loki and the apples of Idunn. Why is Loki obsessed with the goddesses? Maybe it is because you have to be tricked into approaching the feminine and accepting your fate. But by doing so you gain the greatest of gifts. The mighty hammer Mjolnir. Odin's steed Slepnir. Psychologically Speaking, what does Loki, the Trickster Archetype, have to do with the Shadow of Love? David has some theories. Continuing our series on “Loki - The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.” Loki has pissed off Skadi, the giant goddess of hunting and skiing, by getting her father Thjazi killed. Loki solves problems the only way he knows how. By tricking her into marrying Njord rather than her preferred groom, the beautiful Baldur, and then Loki tries to make Skadi laugh by tying one half of a cord to his testicles, and the other half to a goat. It gets real weird this week. Shawn and David present their theories that Loki is the god of kink, Njord is a polygamist, Idunn is Thjazi's sister, and that Loki's “sacrifice” to appease the goddess is actually a meaningful lesson and not just a bit. We answer a fan question on “How are angels represented in Norse Mythology?” (4:30) and start the myth of the week at 11:15 mark. Interested is more discussions on psychology, philosophy, and wisdom? Season 2 Episode 2. Continuing our series on “Loki - The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.” Loki gets himself in a pickle and the only solution is to sell out the goddess Idunn to the giant Thjazi. The only problem is, all of the Aesir are dependent on Idunn to supply them with magic apples that give the gift of eternal youth.  Under threat of torture and execution, Loki once again has to finish what he started.  Shawn has some background on the “Norse Trinity” of gods, the confusion about Thjazi the Giant / Dwarf / Dark Elf, and fan-theory on the relationship between Thjazi and Idunn. One of my biggest bug bears is how Loki is commonly seen as just the Viking Devil, and how much historical context has been lost with the way Christianity works in terms of its conversion practices of overruling all other Gods and borrowing aspects of the religion it's replacing, and villainising other aspects. The most obvious one as an eclectic pagan that leans to the Norse Pagan Path being Loki. So as well as sharing the story of one of Loki's mischiefs with the Golden apple of Idunn this episode I get that bug bear off my chest, into the open and have a bit of a rant about it. I however will not apologise for this. So if that ramble of information given interests you, I do hope the episode will be of joy. I'm a bit bunged up still from my very blocked up nose - but I've finally had my first negative Covid test so at least I'm no longer infectious! Unlike the Greek pantheon, we don't quite know how long people have been worshipping Norse Deities, but we think their worship dates back 2500 years. Of the few sources we have, there are many gods, goddesses, Jotun, and others who were considered deities by the Norse. In this episode, we discuss the creation mythos of the Norse pantheon. Like many others, it describes a black void that eventually sparks to life. What happens next—a cow using a block of ice as a salt lick, a giant who becomes the world as we know it isn't quite as run of the mill. We go over the main gods and goddesses that are worshipped from this pantheon. Some are Aesir, some are Vanir, and some fall somewhere in between or even completely outside of the Aesir and Vanir. We will discuss the magical correspondences of Odin, Frigg, Bragi, Idunn, Baldr, Mimir, Thor, Sif, Tyr, Njörd, Freyja, Freyr, Loki, Sif, Heimdall, and Hel in this episode.

Minute Thirteen: From a Broken Truce to a Creeping Brother Ashley Coffin from the MCU Podcast is joining us this week to talk war with Jotunheim. Check her and her shows out at the links below! In the thirteenth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Thor complains about Laufey breaking the truce and he wants war. Odin believes the guilty party – these three frost giants – paid for their actions with their lives. So who's right? Should they be more concerned about an impending attack by the frost giants? Does diplomacy work using the gentler approach? And will Odin call Laufey on the red phone to chat with him about this? But Anthony Hopkins plays Odin so perfectly here with such calm. It's only when Thor pushes too far that Odin raises his voice, and it's one of the best moments in the movie. Meanwhile, Loki just watches. It's such an interesting portrayal that Tom Hiddleston does here. What's he thinking? Was he assuming the Destroyer would kill the frost giants? And was this all a big ruse just to get Thor to go to Jotunheim? Regardless, he's such a fascinating character. Easy to love, and dead sexy. Thor pouts about not getting to invade Jotunheim. Because he didn't get what he wanted, Thor has a tantrum by flipping a table. We're glad they didn't use the extended scene because it shows how awful Thor is to the wait staff here in Valaskjalf. He really is a spoiled prince. Probably doesn't tip either. But what's with all the pumpkins on the tables? And did you notice the golden apples of Idunn? Loki sneaks in, just like frost giants from Jotunheim sneaking into Odin's vault. As that's happening, Loki arrives, but in the extended scene, we see the Warriors Three and Lady Sif get there first. Volstagg's concerned about the destroyed food from Thor's tantrum. Sheesh. We debate if the movie would benefit with more of the Warriors Three or less. So when Loki arrives, it's from behind a pillar. He had to have been watching Thor have his tantrum, and how he's creeping in to weave his web. It's pretty brilliant. Odin kills it in this scene, Loki hasn't said a word yet which works for his character really well, and Thor just wants war with Jotunheim. So typical. We have a great time covering all of these elements and more. Tune in! Join the conversation with movie lovers from around the world on TruStory FM's Discord channel! Er det alltid en gyldighetsprøving vi foretar, eller kan man få dom for realiteten? Hvilket faktum skal vi se hen til, og hvilke prinsipper gjelder for prøvingen? Samt mange andre temaer. Hello everyone, welcome back to Hexed, the third book in the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne! You can pick up the book here, if you're interested! https://amzn.to/2Q8oVDAThis episode is brought to you by Sue Hayes, and I want to thank her for commissioning more of this book because I have been really hard on Atticus and I want to see some redemption. Usually 5 chapters makes for 50 pages almost exactly, but these chapters were longer so it's only 3 for this episode. Laksha is back, and in a body she really likes, so she decides that she's going to do what she can to keep it, and makes a deal that she will help Atticus with the Maenads in exchange for him getting the golden apples of Idunn. They only grow in Asgard, and Atticus things that this demand is way out of proportion, but he finally her bargains her down to just ONE apple instead of all of them, so i guess that's something? The fight against the Maenads is a lot of fun to read, in no small part because I am currently watching Season 2 of True Blood, in which Maenads feature quite prominently. I like that I have this trend happening in my life right now. Thank you again to Sue for the commission, and I hope you enjoy the show!

In the final episode of On the Road with Beer Sessions Radio Season One, host Jimmy Carbone travels to the Finger Lakes. He visits The Farmhouse Brewery in Owego, the first malting house in New York State in over a decade and one of only a handful also brews in-house. You’ll hear from a top grains farmer about the challenges he faces to produce and distribute unique, artisanal grains to brewers. You’ll also meet the experts who support him in his work. Up in Ovid, Jimmy visits Blackduck Cidery and meets the whole family behind some of the best cider in the state. Plus, meet the community behind New York cider at Finger Lakes Cider House. The Farmhouse Brewery Marty and Natalie Mattrazzo are the visionaries behind The Farmhouse Brewery in Owego, NY. Their motto is “farm fresh from ground to glass." Their delicious brews are a combination of the freshest ingredients, and Marty’s refined palate creates art in every pint. Diligent small grains farmers from all over New York State grow their barley. Only the highest quality grain makes its way to their on-site malt house, where they malt each batch of barley using a time-tested artisanal process. Their hops are of the highest quality that they can source from seasoned hops growers with New York State. The New York hops industry is currently expanding to again become a major supplier of hops varieties to the entire Northeast United States. Oechsner Farms Located in Newfield, New York, just south of Ithaca, Oechsner Farms is a feast for the senses. Thor Oechsner, owner and multi-talented, is the grandson of a German baker. As a teenager he was able to convince his parents to allow him to turn their suburban yard into his first cornfield. Oechsner graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Cornell and by 1991 had started a three-acre vegetable farm while also running a Volkswagen and Audi repair business. Oechsner now farms approximately 600 acres of certified organic grains on rented land throughout the Finger Lakes region. In addition, as part owner of Wide Awake Bakery, Oechsner sees a similar benefit to the bakery business as he does the milling operation. He is more interested in the role that the bakery serves as a tool for marketing for the unique and heritage grain varieties that he produces. Blackduck Cidery We visited Blackduck Cidery in the town of Ovid, NY in the Finger Lakes region. It’s a family run orchard that produces cider, Perry, and vinegar in small batches, using ambient yeast fermentation. John Reynolds and Shannon O’Connor run the operation of the cidery along with their two beautiful redheaded daughters, Idunn and Pippin. They have been growing fruit in the Finger Lakes region of New York for well over a decade. They sell fresh fruit using organic standards through farmer’s markets, restaurants, natural groceries and their farm stand. John is expert in his knowledge about orchards, apples, fruits and anything cider-related. A former student of Cornell University and later employed as a field technician, John actively supports professors in their research of orchards, harvest and post-harvest work. Shannon is more focused on the smooth running and operations of the business, along with the grunt work in the field, while juggling being a mother of two. In her “free” time she also is the Director of the Edith B. Ford library in Ovid, NY. Idunn, the elder daughter, is the master fruit tester and critic. Pippin is the youngest and newest member of the clan; she is just very cute and very skilled at flower picking. Finger Lakes Cider House The Finger Lakes Cider House at Good Life Farm in Interlaken, NY is a certified organic farm and a full diet CSA. The Finger Lakes Cider house is a collaborative multi-cidery tasting room. Melissa Madden and Garrett Miller started the operation in 2008 after purchasing 69 acres of land, mostly growing corn, wheat and soy. Since them it has transformed into a diverse ecological farm, they have planted bushes and trees and bought turkeys, geese, beef cows, and draft horses. They produce their Good Life Cider, a distinctive American style and creatively blended with international influences. Their range is based on traditional bittersweet apples and sharp, acidic heirloom fruits. At the Cider House, they feature their own cider as well as amazing ciders from other cidery friends. Each of these dedicated grower-producers live and work in the Finger Lakes region, and their ciders are true Finger Lakes originals.

It’s Cider Issues on Cooking Issues! Dave Arnold is joined by two bad-ass cider makers, Leif Sundström of Sundström Cider & John Reynolds of Blackduck Cidery. Together, they talk about some cider history and solve some listener questions related to apples, keeving and cider making. The Cider Makers Sundström Cider is a new cidery based in the Hudson Valley of NY.  Leif Sundström began Sundström Cider after 10 years of working in the wine industry.  Beginning in Portland, OR Leif worked as opening beverage director for Le Pigeon restaurant before transitioning to more intimate aspects of the wine industry, first as harvest assistant and cellar hand at Boedecker Cellars and later moving to NYC to work as Portfolio Manager of Terry Theise Estate Selections at Skurnik Wines.  After leaving Skurnik, Leif spent a harvest season at Weingut Leitz in Rüdesheim, Germany before moving to the Hudson Valley to pursue the challenge of maximizing the potential of cider.  Sundström Cider focuses on select wild harvest apples, older heirloom and cider apple varieties, as well as several species of crab apples in an effort to make vinous, age-able ciders that seek to speak of the place they come from.   John Reynolds co-owns Blackduck Cidery with his wife Shannon and their two out of control red headed daughters, Pippin and Idunn. He’s spent most of his adult life involved with fruit and hard work, although not necessarily at the same time. The orchard was planted fifteen years ago and culminated in our first vintage in 2013. In his spare time, The Lawrence Welk Show and the intricacies of Dr. Seuss’s word play consumes many long mindless hours.
