Send your thoughts, feelings, opinions and suggestions to 0892096423!I promised you a recording of a conversation I had with David Nicholls on Monday night at ILDF, but unfortunately that recording appears to have been lost. I'm devo - there was a technical issue during the chat where our microphones went out and apparently what actually had happened was that the sound desk shut down and the recording was deleted. Gutting, to say the least. Fortunately, I was planning on bringing you a recording of my chat with Pillow Queens from my most recent live show anyway, so it just moved up the schedule a little. I hope you enjoy.Get tickets to see Pillow Queens in the Iveagh Gardens here!To support the podcast and access bonus episodes join our community on Patreon. Hosted on Acast. Ahead of the release of his fifth album Grapefruit Season in September, James Vincent McMorrow joins the show to talk about a new project he's been working on called Co-Living Culture with David Anthony Curley (Otherkin - RIP) and Cody Lee. Recorded at David's studio The Clinic, their first song 'Renegador' is an ode to the venues in Dublin, many of which are now gone, where you might hear a record like this. They say: "This song is meant as a love letter to that idea. It's a love letter to the pure unbridled joy that only music can bring, to dance culture, to 90's house music, to flicking through stations in the car as a kid until an absolute banger comes on, and then turning it all the way up so everyone on the street could hear what you were playing, could hear what the music said about you." So James discusses these ideas, how the song was conceived around the same time as it was announced that Jigsaw was to close, the resilience of musicians, hopes/fears for the city centre, and what might be next for the Co-Living Culture project. We also chat about his pilot gig at Iveagh Gardens recently, his forthcoming album, and the NBA Finals. Outro music: Co-Living Culture - 'Renegador'

These are worrying times for four sound lads from Mullingar but these are also very exciting times. Knowing that there's light at the end of this isolation tunnel is a great positive musical hug. And this is some very happy news: Craig, Stephen, Matthew and Dean have just signed a major global record deal with Capitol Records! "It's not what it looks like, I promise!" Aftermath at The Iveagh Gardens... Deffo had a bit of a celebration after If you haven’t heard it yet, listen here https://t.co/MumSJ1Ir7k pic.twitter.com/BZACnIepby — The Academic (@TheAcademic) April 27, 2020 'Anything Could Happen' is the name of the very first single released on that label. The Fergal D'Arcy Show caught up with frontman Craig to ask him about the exciting times ahead and just how the hardest working band in Ireland are keeping sane in isolation. On the video Craig said: "We were due to shoot it a few weeks back but then everything changed. The song has taken on an entirely new meaning so we wanted to create something that brings people a sense of hope in these difficult times. We crowd sourced video footage from people all over the world in lockdown who are doing whatever it takes to keep positive. We thought the idea would be fitting in the current climate." See for yourself:
Considering they're called The Academic. First let's have a brief history class on the lads from Mullingar: Debut EP Released 2015 – 'Loose Friends' - People start to take notice. Debut Album Released 2018 – 'Tales From The Backseat 'reached No.1 in the official album chart Top 50 on the US Billboard Alternative Chart and No.22 in the UK Official Chart. 3 Choice Prize Nominations – Bear Claws, Different and Album of The Year Sold Out Irish shows at Iveagh Gardens, Live At The Marquee. Opened for Twenty One Pilots, The Strokes, Catfish and The Bottlemen. Smash hit songs like 'Bear Claws', 'Fake ID' and 'Superlike' led Clash magazine to say they don't write songs they write anthems. And breathe. There's a LOT to take in! They've been busy boys for the last few years. (We'll have a test later in the year when we all get back into school.) For now: Ahead of their return to the Heineken Big Top Galway in July (gig still on at time of publishing) Craig and Matty sat down with TodayFM's Fergal D'Arcy. They tell Fergal about falling back in love with the guitar, How a rip across America in a cranky van made them as a band, how excited they are to release new music this year and loads more. Plus, you will never guess in which class the two lads met in school. They've also put something up for their fans who are self isolating because of Covid-19 Making the most of self-isolating by listening to more music! We’ve set up a little ‘Influences’ playlist on our @Spotify full of tunes we’ve been listening to and been inspired by over the years. Conversations & Coffee: Episode # 26 Richie Power In this episode of the Conversations & Coffee Podcast we are joined by Richie Power from the Irish Band 'HAWKE'. Hailed as “the next big thing” and “ones to watch” by Irish rock legends Aslan, Hawke are a fresh new band formed in March 2019 under the shadows of the Guinness brewery in Dublin’s south inner city. Lead singers Eoghan Mac Mahon & Richard Power offer a blistering, anthemic flavour of pop/rock, with yearning melodies and soaring guitar lines reflecting a personal ache to break out of the small area they met in The Liberties, Dublin and onto the stadium stages of the world. Within two months of their March formation, Hawke have secured recording time at the famed Abbey road & Metropolis studios in London to record their first releases. They were subsequently chosen out of 500 other artists entries in a publicly announced competition to support Aslan in Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens this July 13th. The combination of their anthemic rock influences (Coldplay/The Verve/U2) with contemporary electronic ambient sounds has proved an enticing offering for Irish & UK music fans, with Hawke making their debut UK performance at Hit the North festival in England’s north East in May 2019, alongside the likes of Tom Grennan & Jake Bugg, as well as securing a calendar of dates supporting ‘The Hara’ across their 2019 UK & Ireland tour. I hope this journey inspires you to do more, and try harder or pursue that passion that is in you. Because we all have it; whether it be for Arts, Music, Fitness or whatever it is that drives you. . _____________________________ the

'Do you think it helps being so ugly doing stand-up?' This week of Up To 90 comes live (and inebriated) from Vodafone Comedy Festival 2018 in The Iveagh Gardens, Dublin, as Seann Walsh confesses to his formerly consuming Spice Girls obsession. We talk Limewire, putting your destiny in the hands of an iPod shuffle, favourite Spice Girls, moving to Brighton from London as a young 'un, doing stand-up in playgrounds and garnering quite the South London primary school following, serving seafood risotto to Supergrass lead singers, saying 'LOL' without irony and of course the perennial debate of our time: Blur versus Oasis. Listen out for a guest appearance form the KING of Irish comics John Colleary (who of course turned out to be a Spice Girls roadie...obviously) as he reminisces about England vs Ireland riots on the Kilburn Road, his preference for All Saints and even dons his glasses just so we know he means business. Obviously it's totally unacceptable to record people while under the influence and throw caution to the wind, so please feel free to get in touch about how we've let ourselves and our families down at Twitter and Insta @Upto90Podcast. ALSO please don't forget to support our mate @seannwalsh on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing where is sure to show off his amazing hair and keen ability to decipher new meanings from Spice Girls classics (Two Become One will never sound the same again).
