No you are not seeing things!If you had told me at any point in the last 30 years that I would get to play b2b with the person that made so much of the music that I played back in 97/98 I'd have maybe peeeeeeed laughing. With over 350 releases under his belt and over 950 DJ gigs around the world there is no doubt Jeremy Sylvester is one of the godfathers of UK garage.Jeremy is a DJ who is capable of covering a vast repertoire of styles, blending them into one sound that has become synonymous and identifiable to him as a DJ. Combining a mix of deep house/garage, classic 90's style house, deep tech and jacking with a bit of old skool 4×4 garage thrown in for good measure, Jeremy's diversity and sheer panache is second to none.His cool DJ sets are known for twisting the dance floor into a sexy melange of movement before letting loose into a filthy beat, Jeremy knows what the crowd want, and he knows how to give it to them.What is crazy is that Jeremy's USB's wouldn't load, so he had to use my music!!  Any DJs out there can sympathise.  The upside though was that I had a folder full of Nice 'n' Ripe and one full of Jeremy's unreleased tracks from over the years!So what you end up with is a rare classic UKG set from the man that produced half of it back in the day.Perfect!Massive thank you to Jeremy for agreeing to come on the show while on holiday down here in Sydney as part of his first Aus/NZ tour.Tracklisting to follow (once I work out what we played!)Enjoy!

With a new EP out on his own Brooklyn based Onysia label featuring tracks from himself, Rick Wade & Jeremy Sylvester, we got the bossman in to showcase what he and the label is about! "The mix is an Onysia label spotlight, with a lot of forthcoming / unreleased material and a lot of my own productions. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while, so already had some concept / idea of how to approach it... At first it felt like this whole new challenge making a mix from a fixed, relatively small pool of tracks but then realized this is music which does fit together very well and does possess a particular aesthetic, and the process just flowed. It really does represent the Onysia sound, which I've worked very hard to curate and ensure a certain cohesion even as the scope of the label grows. The mix weaves in and out of more contemplative moments and clubbier sounds, which is how I like to experience music on the dancefloor, but it's also very tailored for home listening. It's always funny how you know a track so well, have been playing it for years, maybe you've even made it yourself. But you get a new perspective mixing it with other tracks, and depending on how it's presented within the context of a set. It's great to feel refreshed and finally share a label showcase mix !" @onysia

London's Customs duo are connoisseurs of finely crafted garage music, two life long devotees to the sound's deeply swung rhythms and unifying dancefloor vibrations. Finessing their take on all things garage (not garage) through their regular spots on Kiosk Radio and at London's Giant Steps, the guys join us with a swinging smorgasbord of 90s and early 00s records from the UK, dabbling in top notch garage and some of the sounds that anticipated broken beat and early grime productions. @customs_ldn Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when combining for this mix, and what kind of setting might you imagine it being enjoyed in the most? Guy: Firstly, thank you Myles so much for sharing this mix. Longtime fans of MDC! Both of us answered “driving” as the best setting, which is funny since neither of us drives. So maybe “riding” rather than driving. Lots of thoughts percolated for me on night drives to inner city Manchester a few months back. Definitely inspired by the All Bad Boy & All Good Girl archive work of Death Is Not The End, resurfacing the sound of Moss Side blues parties like Soul Control. Reading Ed Gillett's new-ish book Party Lines also gave a push further into alternate UK dance histories, specifically Black club scenes and music that ‘swings'. Tom: I've been bingeing on a bunch of old club recordings from the ‘speed garage' era lately - sets from places like Club Koo and The Colosseum - and I think some of the energy from that early blend of UK and US sounds has definitely bubbled over into this mix. Q. With the mix showcasing your shared appreciation for deep garage music and its many adjacent styles and offshoots, could you give us a brief insight into your journeys with the sound, and what years, artists or labels have you found to be responsible for the most timeless cuts in your record bags? Guy: It was a nocturnal radio sound for me as a young teenager I guess, largely mysterious, coming largely from London when I was growing up in the north west. But the sampling of R&B vocals from stuff I knew made it immediately accessible. In more recent years, digging in London, I've tended to get most excited by either one-off/ white label riddles that are sometimes garage-not-garage, and also alias stuff from bigger name producers across bigger labels in the genre - G-Spot Records, Nice ‘N' Ripe, Unda-Vybe etc. Tom: I actually started out as a bedroom garage DJ, so it's a bit of a full-circle moment for me. I had a mate at school who wanted to be an MC, and on Saturdays we used to hit up Music & Video Exchange to pick up whatever white labels we could find before heading back to his flat in Ladbroke Grove to practice a set that nobody would ever hear. Shout out to Nick The Greek, wherever you are! Twenty-something years later, I'm still finding exciting stuff from the same producers we loved back then - guys like Jeremy Sylvester and Mike Millrain who have these unfathomably deep back-catalogues. Q. Are there any songs in the mix that are especially close to your hearts, and what is it about these tracks that resonate with you so much? Guy: I'd call out 2. Artist Formerly Known as PP - When I'm Down, from 1998. Bit of a private press oddity from a producer who's prolific but mysterious (the PP = ‘Persian Prince'). It's a kind of rolling, morphing megamix type cut that samples Brandy - Best Friend but also features raw toasting style MC bits the likes of which you hear from the live party recordings in All Bad Boy & All Good Girl. The other is Colour 3 - La Femme, a beautiful, melodic white label that's been so versatile for me since I picked it up from Crazy Beat in Upminster. Has worked a treat on sound systems like Giant Steps and after parties alike. Tom: The penultimate track, Drivers Anthem, is a special one for me. Super deep and melodic production, but with that trademark UK bump on the bottom end.

Once again, I bring forth superb house music that currently moves me to better and brighter places. In this session, I try to keep a laid back and relaxed vibe (for the most part). You will experience some old school disco-funk flavors that have been updated to fit today’s sound. I begin the set with Knee Deep featuring Cathy Battistess, “All About Love” – this is simply a brilliant vocal. Later on in the set, I had to run the Lovebirds Suite Instrumental. I’m sure everyone will enjoy. Other highlights: I didn’t realize when I was mixing but I have featured a lot of tracks either produced or remixed by Knee Deep. Then there is the Motooo Project, “Give Me Love” – I’ve been trying to include this into a show for a while and here it is! Moving along to the second set of the latest BPM Edition, I held to my promise of infusing some more prog tunes into the mix.  If you remember a while back, I made the decision to cancel the System Edition and in its place I would be mixing in some of the underground house into this series to make up for the loss.  Frankly, I think it works quite well and prevents this series from being too 'poppy' and gives it a more serious undertone.  Granted, you still have your mainstream electro and funky house but the addition of the progressive tracks not only gives it more meaning but prevents everything from sounding too mundane. First up I've got the ultra hot Livvi Franc "Now I'm That Bitch" which is a big mainstream electro track that will rock your house!  Also be on the lookout for the equally fabulous Kaskade mix of this song.  Then there's "Boom" by Anjulie which doesn't really need a mention since it's already number one on the Billboard Club Chart but was something that wasn't in my grubby little hands at the time my last BPM mix came out.  You also have the Freestylers doing their own take of the massive chart-topper "Word Up" by Cameo from the eighties.  Don't worry, this has all new lyrics and Bimbo Jones strayed from the original version but left just enough so you know where it's coming from.  However, if you prefer the breakbeat tempo of the original, they have a club mix that's sure to suit your taste.  Another eighties gem is Simply Red's "Money's 2 Tight to Mention" which is just as pertinent now as it was back in the day.  Seamus Haji works this puppy out and I expect it to do very well on the floors over the next several months.  Since we're in the mood for remakes, why not Sono's classic "Keep Control" which the original just appeared on my 2001 Chrome Edition.  This time, Fedde Le Grand has the honors and takes the original up several notches for an ear-pleasing workout.  Keeping in the remake theme, I also closed this mix out with Richard Grey's take on Daft Punk's 2000 worldwide smash "One More Time" which simply updates the original for today's electro crowd while keeping all the uplifting and fun elements intact.  In the same mode, we get Lissat & Voltaxx's "Release Yourself" which scoops up the classic beats of Armand Van Helden's "You Don't Know Me", something that has already been done earlier this year not once but twice in a more prog style.  This go-around, they add lyrics ensuring a hands in the air crowd pleaser.  I also managed to work in a little electro-salsa with Jeremy Sylvester and Socafrica's "Hot 4 U" which practically begs you to dance.  Sorry, you just don't have any choice with this one.  Finally, the one everyone's been waiting for "Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)" by Freemasons and Sophi Ellis-Bextor.  This is the lead single off of the Freemason's upcoming Shakedown 2 album on June 29th and has already generated positive buzz across the Atlantic.  Expect to be hearing this and the subsequent remixes all summer long!
