A young Sunil Raina, fresh out of college, was divided between two choices in his life when the situation fell apart in the Kashmir valley. On one hand, he wished to pursue activism full-time as a member of the 'Panun Kashmir' organization, and on the other hand, burgeoning responsibilities asked of him to find a firm footing in his life, which was ruptured by the forced displacement perpetrated by Islamic extremists in the valley. Hailing from a remote village in Kashmir, Sunil Raina stepped into the precarious life that awaited him. He joined the corporate world after finishing his MBA from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Today, he leads LAVA Mobiles as the President & Business Head, which is the only indigenous mobile manufacturing company in the country today. Their discussion touches upon the geo-political economy of the mobile phone industry, where Sunil theorizes the term - "Economic colonization," highlighting the importance of R&D and need for self-reliance in the Telecom industry to accelerate the Indian economy. This interview explores the journey of a Kashmiri Pandit, who started from scratch to build a successful life far away from his homeland. You're listening to ‘Sonth,' a Kashmiri-Hindustani bilingual podcast on hot-button historical, political, and socio-economic issues of Jammu and Kashmir, hosted by Editor-in-Chief Aarti Tikoo.

In this episode, Joe interviews Priyanka Wali, MD: board-certified practicing physician in Internal Medicine, MAPS-trained psychedelic facilitator, comedian, and co-host (with Sean Hayes of "Will & Grace" fame) of the HypochondriActor podcast, where they discuss interesting medical issues in a funny (and hopefully uplifting) way. She talks about recognizing and protecting the humanity of healthcare professionals, and how medical school is creating a cycle of hurt people trying to help other hurt people. She believes we need to become more holistic, especially in embracing Indigenous ways of thinking, as their frameworks may be the only way to explain phenomena with which Western science can't come to terms. They talk a lot about ancient psychedelic use: the use of a soma described in the Rigveda; Egyptian culture and mushrooms observed in statues; Plato; the work of Brian Muraresku and Graham Hancock; and Vedic chants, Kashmiri Bhajans, and how singing (especially in a group) can be especially healing to the nervous system. And as Wali experienced first-hand the Kashmiri Pandit genocide of 1990, she discusses how much colonialism has changed cultures, and how much our cycles of oppression relate to our collective inability to experience pain and fear. They discuss the psychological impact of living through major catastrophes; the special and hard-to-describe feeling of returning to your home (especially in a world changed by colonization and constant conflict); the sad case of Ignaz Semmelweis and hand washing; ghosts of Japan's 2011 tsunami, the concept of ‘future primitive,' and more. www.psychedelicstoday.com

I am in conversation with Prashant Pandita, a Kashmiri Pandit and the author of bookThe Jehlum Boys where we talk about writing a nail-biting thriller that thrives on friendship and is divided by the tensions and larger political disputes in a historically disputed land-Kashmir.As they say, the friendships that have been developed and nurtured during childhood are something that has a deep impact on any individual's life as they are what have witnessed the phases that nobody else has.A Kashmiri pandit and a Muslim both are based in Kashmir. Generally, if I tell you just this plot with all the Kashmir stories and movies around either you will expect something on similar lines or you will expect the cliche. Kashmiri Pandits and people of other faiths have gone through a lot with respect to the exodus that happened in 1990.The story is heavy and through the conversations between the characters, a lot of learnings are offered about life. Knowing the perspective of Prashant Pandita has been a key element of this podcast episode of Motivation Spark and we have brought the immersing audio experience from a person who has been through harsh experiences.Buy The JEhlum Boys BookConnect with Rohit KokaneGlitters of Life Podcast ( YouTube Channel )Highbrow Scribes Publication HousePodcast Created on Hubhopper Studio

Saumya Pandit is a symbolic representation of all the Pandits from Kashmir who were forced to leave their homeland – all the pandits who lost their loved ones. A Kashmiri Poet and Scholar. Premi had spent his whole life with Muslim neighbours. He was sure when things will go wrong, nobody would touch him. Infact, he believed his Muslim Neighbours will protect him. His relatives repeatedly told him to leave the valley - but he had full faith in his Muslim Neighbours. On the night of April 29, 1990 - three armed men forcefully entered his house - Premi and his son were led away from the house by armed men. After a day, their bodies were found hanging from a tree - nails had been hammered right between their eyebrows - the place where Pandits apply Tilak. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

A Kashmiri Pandit chemist Mohan Lal Bindroo, a Sikh school principal Supinder Kaur and her Hindu colleague from Jammu have been killed in targeted attacks in Srinagar recently. A large number of Muslims too have been killed in such attacks, laid at the door of The Resistance Front, widely believed to be a front of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Many Hindus who stayed back after the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s are scared and have been advised by the authorities to stay inside their houses. An estimated 300 Pandits have left. This is possibly the most serious crisis in the Valley after the BJP Government at the Centre abrogated Article 370 and sliced the state of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories in 2019. In this podcast, we explore the current situation and the possible reasons behind it. Guest: Mohammed Sayeed Malik, veteran journalist Host: Amit Baruah, Senior Associate Editor, The Hindu

I was trying to think of an eloquent title to describe my conversation with this week's guest, the brilliant and brave journalist Surabhi Tandon, but I've decided to use the words of Arundhati Roy, one of India's greatest living activists. When asked about the current CAA/NRC laws within India, she simply called them, "Fu*king Insane" Kashmir, where Surabhi has done some of the best reporting (in video or print) I've seen, is also "Fu*king nsane". A conflict left festering for decades, suddenly people can't leave their neighborhoods, networks of barbed wire, pellet guns and torture chambers have appeared, and a digital siege has left Kashmir cut off from the world. Coupled with disgusting comments from BJP politicians about buying land and 'fair-skinned Kashmiri women', marrying the language of misogyny with Settler Colonialism. I discuss the insanity of Kashmir w. Surabhi, how insanity has become normalized in Kashmir, and the contemporary history of Kashmir's suffering. I may have learned the most from this conversation from any I've recorded. I hope you find it to be a powerful and informative conversation. Dr. Happymon Jacob speaks with Siddhartha Gigoo (Author of ‘Long Dream of Home' and ‘A Fistful of Earth') about the social and political circumstances in which Kashmiri Pandits had to leave Kashmir. Mr Gigoo narrates his first experience of persecution as a young boy and the escalation of such instances from harmless banter to organized exodus. He asserts that successive governments have failed to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits to their ‘homeland', and have merely used their cause for electoral gains. Mr Gigoo laments at the loss of identity, dignity and a sense of belonging that Kashmiri Pandits, now settled across the world have experienced. The Kashmiri Pandit mind is now torn between deceitful hope and a dissipating longing for return.
As Hindus who stay in majority Hindu areas, we actually don't know the feeling of what it is to be a minority. But there are some Hindus who experience/have experienced this reality in India. I try to understand what it is to live like a Kashmiri Pandit with Ashish Dhar.
