To say times are rough would be an understatement. The pandemic has infected the anime and manga industry, affecting the production and release of several anime and manga titles. It has even taken down several once-though indomitable cons this year, including SDCC and Anime Expo. So, naturally, we’ve got to talk about all the stuff that’s either been delayed or outright canceled. Which is a real downer, man. Yet, even this pandemic can’t slow down the fast-paced world of manga, so we’ve got tons of serialization and licensing news to talk about as well. Plus, we’ve got some lighter fare including the likes of a list of manga people want to see animated, which includes a surprisingly goofy choice that I’m disappointed isn’t even Goofy-er! We’ve even thrown in a mini-review of the newest Jump series Moriking in the middle of this discussion too! So even though we’ve got some bummer news to talk about, hopefully, you’ll find this episode a humorous and hopeful romp through the latest goings-on in the always lively manga industry! It’s only fitting that we hit our 50th episode during the same year we’re celebrating Weekly Shonen Jump’s 50th anniversary. Maybe we’ll eventually run fifty years ourselves. Hey, we’ve got two years down already, what’s another forty-eight? Regardless, we want to thank all you listeners for helping us reach this far! Your listenership and support makes doing this show all the more fun and fulfilling for us to do, and we want to keep going for a long while yet. To celebrate our 50th episode milestone, we wanted to revisit a series we’ve previously discussed on the show. So we decided to go back to class - Assassination Classroom that is! Turns out Colton never quite graduated from the series back when we first talked about it, so now that Viz Media’s release of the manga has concluded, we decided it was time to go back and finish it. Joining us is our guest from our original Yusei Matsui retrospective, Kiirobon, best known for his Shonen Sunday blog but also an avid Matsui fan in his own right! Together we discuss the trials and triumphs, the laughs and cries, the anything and everything of Yusei Matsui’s hit series about an unkillable octopus-monster teacher and his 28 would-be middle-school student assassins! But of course, we’ve got to talk about the news first! We discuss a slew of new One Piece spinoffs, the expiring licenses of several high-profile anime, and cool convention news! Plus, we talk about the latest Bookscan and discuss controversial topics like Viz Media dropping the Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc and the repercussions faced by the New Life+ light novel author for his racist twitter comments! With as much as we had to talk about, we surprisingly manage to cover it all in only an hour! Which is good considering our Assassination Classroom episode managed to be over three hours long! This isn’t our longest episode, but it’s sure in the running. Which, hey, it’s our 50th episode. It deserves to be! Even though World Trigger has been on hiatus for a long time, the love of its fans remains strong. With the series celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, we thought now would be as good as time as any to re-read and talk about it! Joining us are two VERY passionate World Trigger fans and Osamu Mikumo stans - Annaliese Christman, letterer of the series for Viz Media and Weekly Shonen Jump, and Wensleydale Cheddar, host of the Shonen Jump podcast Stammer Stream and the voice of Osamu in Team ODA:R’s World Trigger abridged series! Either way, we had a long and fun discussion of one of our favorite series, and we hope you enjoy it! But first, we’ve got a ton of news! We talk about both the Bookscan and Diamond monthly lists, new licenses, lots of industry shakeups, and a few fun polls! There’s so much to talk about, it’s no wonder this episode ended up being four hours long! In fact, we had to cut stuff out of it so it wouldn’t run over five! They talk about these series now that they have more volumes under their belts, and in some cases, have completed the entire series. The first of these that they discuss is Naoki Urasawa's Monster(VIZ Media), a title that they first discussed in their July 2015 episode. The last volume of the English-language Perfect Editions was released in summer of 2016, and both Shea and Derek explore their experiences finishing up the series. As they reveal, Urasawa has a penchant for vast, multi-leveled narratives, filled with a wide cast of characters, and the guys discuss this style of storytelling, its thrills as well as its challenges. Next, they turn to the completion of a story they first discussed on the September 2016 manga episode, Moto Hagio's Otherworld Barbara (Fantagraphics). The second volume of this series was published in August of last year, and the guys revisit Hagio's storyworld and its wrap-up. As they mentioned on their earlier episode, this is a complex, even vertiginous, narrative that involves dreamscapes, multiple narrative levels, and time interplay. Both of them appreciate Hagio's conclusion, although at times they wonder about the story's lapses into sentimentalism, and if the various narrative threads may not be a bit unwieldy. Finally, the guys discuss other manga series that they've been keeping up with, even completing, individually. For Shea, that includes ONE and Yusuke Murata's One-Punch Man and Yusei Matsui's Assassination Classroom, both published by VIZ Media. Derek waxes enthusiastically about Inio Asano's Goodnight Punpun(VIZ Media), Kengo Hanazawa's I Am a Hero(Dark Horse Manga), and Akiko Higashimura's Princess Jellyfish(Kodansha Comics).

¡¡¡HOLA MENSAHEROOOOOS!!!
