Ronnie Platt's journey to becoming the lead vocalist of rock legends Kansas defies conventional music industry narratives. At 52, after decades behind the wheel of a Chicago delivery truck, he stepped into the spotlight previously occupied by one of rock's most distinctive voices, Steve Walsh. "Better late than never," he quips with characteristic humility that runs throughout his conversation with Lindsay and Bruce. Now celebrating eleven years with the band, Platt opens up about the influences that shaped his powerful vocal style—Steve Walsh, Steve Perry, and Lou Gramm—analyzing their techniques and selecting vocalists whose approach matched his physical capabilities. The conversation takes a more serious turn as Platt details his recent battle with thyroid cancer, from discovery to diagnosis to his triumphant return to the stage just one month after surgery. His concern extended beyond his health to the entire Kansas organization—band members, crew, venues, and support staff who would be affected by his absence from touring. This profound sense of responsibility, combined with extraordinary medical care, fueled his remarkably swift recovery. It's only April but it's time to get excited about July 4th! Kansas and 38 Special will headline this year's Independence Day celebration, culminating in the city's spectacular fireworks display. Community Events Director Alison LeRoy also joins to share details about the full day of festivities and the upcoming table reservation process. It promises to be another rockin' unforgettable Fourth of July in the city we love!

Led Zeppelin shook the world of rock & roll for little more than a decade, but their legacy lives on stronger than ever. Masters of creativity and diversity, their music covers such a wide range of styles and genres that they are difficult to define. Their collective talent remains unmatched and unchallenged. There will never be another Led Zeppelin. Their songs are still aired regularly, and their recordings are being bought in droves by new generations, but fans of the band still crave the raw energy of a live show. Enter Black Dog. Black Dog proudly pays tribute to the mighty Led Zeppelin with an extensive catalogue of songs comprised of classic masterpieces like "Dazed and Confused", "Heartbreaker", and "Stairway to Heaven", as well as the less heard B-sides to satisfy the more discerning fans. A complete acoustic set recreates an intimate setting with mandolin and custom tuned guitars played on stools, bringing to life songs like "Going to California", "Friends", and "That's the Way". The show also includes extended versions that recapture the true live experience such as The Song Remains the Same's "Whole Lotta Love", complete with Page's magical Theramin solo! The members established the band in early 2000, and they are all accomplished musicians with considerable experience. Black Dog is the definitive Led Zeppelin tribute band. One of the greatest rock bands in our generation was REO Speedwagon. At the beginning of this year, we received word that REO was officially no longer. But that doesn't mean that guitarist, song writter and lead vocalist Kevin Cronin is stopping. We had the opportunity to speak with Kevin not only about his upcoming tour (with many of the REO family members), but we spoke about his dad being in World War II, why REO broke up, how Stephen Stills is one of his all time heroes and a hint of his new book.

In 1980 I started hitting the San Francisco Bay Area rock clubs nightly. The Stone , Old Waldorf , Mabuhay Gardens, Uncle Charlie's, The Phoenix Theater , Keystone Berkeley, Cotati Cabaret. I had a huge thirst for Rock n Roll. Of course the big bands like Van Halen ,AC/DC , Judas Priest and Ted Nugent would come through town but that was like once a year so you had to find something more out there and that something was a blossoming local rock scene and the early kings of that scene was a band called Roadrunner. This band absolutely crushed it live and it seemed like over night they were selling out every club in the Bay. By 1985 the band was done. I will Never forget those days and especially my guest today lead singer of Roadrunner James Hume. I learned all of my early rock n roll lessons from this band. I don't think I've talked to James since 1985 so it was an honor to catch up with him and really hear his story. You may not of heard of Roadrunner but I guarantee you will love the stories. From Metallica opening up for them, Dio trying to get them a record deal and the infamous band house "The Cave" Dig in my friends and hear some San Francisco Rock History. Check out some art by James Hume in this link https://rebelunicorn.shop/collections/jh-canvas Roadrunner's music can be heard here https://music.apple.com/us/album/teenage-warcry-ep/270227528 Join my Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/DeanDelray Enjoy tons of Bonus episodes.
