In this video from the channel Conversations with Strangers, host Micah Loughman interviews Ryan Daniels, the lead singer and multi-instrumentalist behind the Brooklyn-based indie rock project Inland Years.Ryan's Musical Background• Early Years: Originally from Boston, Ryan has been writing and performing music since he was a kid. Before his current indie rock focus, he was heavily involved in the emo, screamo, and hardcore scenes throughout high school and his early twenties.• Inland Years: This project began around the pandemic as a "sanity project." Ryan writes the songs and performs all the instruments (drums, bass, guitar, and vocals) on the recordings.• Past Bands: He was previously in a "skramz" (underground/DIY screamo) band called Hassan I Sabbah. He also mentioned playing a small show with Saves the Day in the mid-90s before they became famous.Musical Influences and Comparisons• The Sound: Listeners and reviewers have compared his music to Dinosaur Jr. and Lou Barlow.• Inspirations: Ryan cites a wide range of influences, from Jangle Pop (Orange Juice, The Pastels) to the 60s folk-rock of The Byrds (specifically Gene Clark).• Current Favorites: He mentioned being a fan of modern artists like MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, and Water From Your Eyes. The Modern Music Scene• The "Skramz" Revival: Ryan discusses the surprising resurgence of the underground screamo scene, noting that younger fans are reaching out to him about his old music and releasing new work on physical formats like cassette tapes.• Streaming Issues: He shares a story about his music being temporarily removed from Spotify due to "botting" (artificial stream inflation) from an AI-generated playlist he didn't authorize, leading him to value physical media and platforms like Bandcamp even more.Personal Interests and Future Plans• Live Shows: Ryan performs live with a rotating group of friends from other bands. At the time of recording, he had upcoming shows in Brooklyn and Jersey City.• Hobbies: Outside of music, Ryan admits to being a Marvel nerd and recently enjoyed the series Wonderman on Disney+You can also watch the full video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldMPeiGlWoU

On this episode we have on Randy James from the band Hopeful. We talked about his journey with fertility and having 3 kids, having a band centered around hope and faith, starting a music career in his 30s, being from a music family, how he wants to be present for his family, getting older and getting healthier.I got a real sense of gratitude from Randy in this call and excitement for life. And that felt really cool to tap into on a call. He's making music, he's a dad, and he seems like he's entering into a chapter of life where he's in disbelief this is his life. His band Hopeful just recorded a new album, but they don't have a release date set yet. The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
The biggest country hits of 2025 tell a story the charts won't say out loud: radio still gives men the mic. We dig into the top spins, trace the patterns behind programming decisions, and ask whether “audience demand” is real taste or a habit formed by gatekeepers. From Morgan Wallen's multi-track dominance to a rare female breakout, we map how rotation rules, label strategies, and collaboration trends keep certain voices front and center while others fight uphill. We also widen the lens beyond airplay. Miranda Lambert's new unscripted series brings her storytelling grit to TV, proving artists can grow cultural impact even when radio lanes narrow. Bailey Zimmerman's viral generosity toward his mom, Jesse Keith Whitley's hard restart, and the passing of Opry great Stu Phillips remind us why country resonates: real stakes, real lives, and communities that show up. Add in a spirited debate on performance and vocal power—a live bracket spanning Freddie Mercury, Steve Perry, Prince, and Geoff Tate—and we hit the sweet spot where craft and showmanship meet legacy and data. Spoiler: a theatrical rock titan takes the crown. You'll also get a clear explainer on RIAA certifications, a peek into Cody Johnson's authenticity test for outside cuts, quick-hit chart rundowns across country and indie lanes, and a stack of listener questions on A&R, artist development costs, and the manager roles that actually move careers. We keep it candid, practical, and human—equal parts industry intel and fan-heart fuel.If this conversation challenged your assumptions or gave you something worth sharing, tap follow, send it to a friend, and leave a quick review. Tell us: who deserves more spins, and who's your all-time lead singer? It's not a Kiwi summer without Six60, and the county's highest selling live band is rolling on. They've dropped their latest single, ‘We Made It', coming in the wake of their bestselling Australian performance at the Sydney Opera House. They'll also have the honour of being the first live act to perform at the new One NZ Stadium in Christchurch and are curating a new country and roots music festival, taking place this summer in Matakana. Lead singer Matiu Walters told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's just a one-day festival at the moment, but they have plans to grow. “It's definitely a tough time for the arts, music, and for everyone really, to be fair,” he said. “We didn't, we never want to kind of just, to like, rest on our laurels.” Over the years they've been performing, Six60 has smashed records, being labelled as the country's first-ever Chart Icon at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards, and Walters says their drive stems from their desire to do “cool stuff”. “Our goal was, was always just to write and perform music, and my purpose is to sing and play guitar, and all these things that kind of happened around us,” he told du Plessis-Allan. “We're aspirational dudes.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Behavioral scientist Jon Levy, author of Team Intelligence: How Brilliant Leaders Unlock Collective Genius, joins to talk about why he collects astronauts, Olympians, and other outliers for secret salons—and what they've taught him about trust and connection. He explains why status isn't the same as popularity, how our networks quietly determine our habits and fortunes, and why so-called "authentic" leaders are really just people who match our prewritten narratives. Plus, a Spiel on a government shutdown that changed very little in the real world beyond making everyone mad at Washington and Democrats mad at each other. Naomi grew up off the grid—one of 11 kids living in a converted school bus, traveling the country, and even spending time in a cult. She learned guitar as a child, playing at gas stations to help her family afford life on the road. Now a wife and mother, Naomi is opening up about the full truth of her past—and the moment that changed everything. After nearly dying during childbirth, she gained a profound new perspective on life. That experience sparked a deep inner shift, awakening a fierce feminine strength and emotional clarity that flows through her latest work. Her new songs, “Bricks Make Houses” and “Mama Ain’t Jesus,” are her most honest yet—music that embraces both the pain and the beauty of the road that led her here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
