This week on Yes But Why Podcast, I present my chat with Travis Charles Ploeger, the director/founder of Washington Improv Theater's longest running ensemble, iMusical: The Improvised Musical. Over the course of his career, Travis Charles Ploeger has helped to create and perform over 2,000 improvised musicals to audiences across the country. He joined Washington Improv Theater and created iMusical in 2006, after an eight-year career as the music director and pianist for Chicago City Limits in New York City. As a director/performer in NYC, Travis was a founding member of “I Eat Pandas,” with Eliza Skinner and Glennis (McMurray) McCarthy; and, he performed on the stages of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, People's Improv Theater and Magnet Theater In our conversation, Travis tells me about his lifelong love affair with music. The guy's first word was piano; It seems predestined that he'd be performing music throughout his life. Travis tells me that when he found musical improv, he felt like he had finally found his niche. He loves performing. He loves spontaneous songwriting. He learned so much in his foray as musical director for Chicago City Limits. Travis shares that CCL and his NYC improv community gave him the confidence to create his own show, so when he moved to Washington DC, he did just that. He created iMusical and he has been running that show for 15 years now. Travis gives some great advice about what it takes to maintain a show for that long. “You're your own biggest critic” is a maxim we're all familiar with, but the real question is why.  Or more importantly how, do we overcome these negative thoughts and patterns?  In my book, Sell From Love, I talk about fear and how universal these feelings can be.   The reason we sell from fear goes hand in hand with the reasons we keep ourselves down with that inner critic voice: self-preservation and protection. My guest today Tara-Nicholle Kirke, is a globally-recognized transformation expert, Master Coach and spiritual strategist known as The Inner Critic Coach™.  A recovering attorney and the former CMO of MyFitnessPal, Tara wrote the authoritative book on transformational business.  It's called The Transformational Consumer: Fuel a Lifelong Love Affair with Your Customers by Helping Them Get Healthier, Wealthier and Wiser.  As the Founder and CEO of SoulTour's School of Spiritual Strategy, Tara teaches smart, successful people how to stop hiding their light and holding themselves back so their lives and businesses can finally take off.   On this episode we discuss: Transformational Consumer: This is the topic of Tara's book and an important lesson if you want to Sell From Love.  Tara teaches us the questions businesses should be trying to answer, and what marketing strategies never work. Engaging Your Customers: We live in a content-driven era that can quickly overwhelm people and lead to disengagement.  Tara outlines intentional marketing and shares her strategies for breaking through in a noisy world. Inner Critic: We define what exactly your “inner critic” is and give some practical tips for overcoming our own negative self-talk.  Tara helps us re-frame the scary parts of selling and we get to the root of these fears. I can't wait for you to listen in and to learn to overcome your inner critic as Tara-Nicolle Kirke shows us her way.   PS: If you loved this episode, please head on over to your podcast app to rate and give us a review. We need your help in sharing the Sell From Love message with others.  Finka and the SFL podcast team appreciate you for listening and spreading the word.

Without access to a sewing machine, she started to make her clothes with hand stitches. After doing a few fashion shows in her home country in Australia, she moved to South India and worked extensively with one of then local tailors for the next seven years, while sometimes being involved with a local Reforestation and Village Development project there. At 37 Heather then moved to the USA, married her longterm partner, and reinvented herself as a dressmaker to make a living. They moved to Central Texas where she rediscovered her love of design and started working in the fashion industries, creating garments and costumes for fashion and film. Heather launched her own brand OTSU in 2015, an archaic Japanese word, that means, "witty, romantic, quirky, odd and tasty." When Covid hit, she went to work making masks for family and friends, and eventually decided to start using some of the fabrics and yarns she had collected over a lifetime from her world travels. Currently she is focusing her design work on knit and crochet wear. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/aprilklingmeyer/support

“We all are doing a hero's journey over and over and over and over again. Every time we seek to improve or change something about our lives or try to do something we've never done before it is a hero’s journey in itself.” — Tara-Nicholle Nelson Tara-Nicholle Nelson is a marketer and writer at heart, but before realizing her true passions, it was as a real estate agent that she started her first “customer insights project.” She wanted to help people make better decisions when buying homes, so she created a flow chart for making decisions. That flow chart led to her first book, The Transformational Consumer: Fuel a Lifelong Love Affair with Your Customers by Helping Them Get Healthier, Wealthier, and Wiser.  The book didn’t sell a ton of copies, but one did manage to land in the hands of a founder at HGTV who wanted to license it. This turned into Tara becoming a digital content marketing consultant and PR spokesperson for HGTV. It was the beginning of an inspiring career journey for Tara, one focused on content marketing.  Today, Tara is the founder and CEO of SoulTour and the CEO of Transformational Consumer Insights (TCI), a strategy and customer research firm. TCI builds customer loyalty and engagement with content strategies based on research and customer insights. Tara also serves as a transition coach to a select few transformational leaders at SoulTour, a company that provides programs to help leaders along their journey.  On this episode, Ian sits down with Tara to discuss how she got into marketing after being a lawyer, the transitions she has made throughout her career, and what triggered her desire to write her first book on the “transformational consumer”. — P.S. Why I've had a lifelong love affair with money. That may sound like a selfish admission, but I changed my thinking about money years ago.  My Dad was a pastor and I heard plenty about “the love of money.”  And while I respect his deep devotion, I think he misunderstood the message.  In today's podcast I want to address these questions: How can I increase my sense of “deserving” success? What is your mindset about money? How can I address my “upper limit challenge?” How can I learn to serve from a full cup? “Money and success don't change people; they merely amplify what is already there.” Will Smith [Tweet This]   Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller challenges our mindset regarding money. We are taught to love it or hate it; but, is there a healthier view that we can maintain? Our mindset are often the result of the instilled values of our upbringing and this can work to our demise. Listen as Dan shares from his personal experiences, observations, and thoughts regarding church teachings about money and how family can at times, hold us back from achieving our greatest success. How can I address my “upper limit challenge?” How can I learn to serve from a full cup? “Money and success don't change people; they merely amplify what is already there.” – Will Smith 02:12 – As a kid, Dan decided to have a lot of money and enjoy it 02:36 – Dan likes to personify money 02:56 – When Dan went through a rough time a few years ago, he always had $100 tucked in one of the compartments of his wallet 03:22 – Over the years, he gave out the $100, but replenished it every time 03:41 – “Broke is just a state of mind” 03:53 – Dan opens his arms to money 04:57 – Over the years, Dan bought a lot of repossessed cars 05:10 – Without exception, every car he bought had money (nickels, dimes, quarters) 05:35 – That gave Dan the impression of how the previous owner took care of their money 06:24 – What is your mindset about money? 06:28 – Stop complaining about money 06:55 – The only thing that works in the economy is allowing people to earn 08:08 – Dan mentions a Bible verse: “The love of money is a root to all kinds of evil” 09:16 – Do you believe that, “The safest thing to do is to not have any money [at all]?” 09:31 – The church teaches us to hate money 09:44 – In Dan's experience, people with money are people who are gracious and giving 10:11 – Dan mentions about the church's teachings and contradictory points on money 11:17 – “We get mixed messages from churches in terms of our relationship with money” 12:06 – How can I learn to serve from a full cup? People are taught that the Christian life means to put others first 13:12 – People who puts others first end up burned out and resentful that they've struggled so much with nothing left to give 14:03 – Most Christians' way of serving is depleting themselves and ending up without resources 14:35 – “This is a distorted idea of service” 14:51 – Growing up as a pastor's son, he was able to observe unhealthy teachings 15:23 – Dan elaborates on some examples of this 17:57 – Dan's story that is somewhat similar to “Goldilocks and The 3 Bears” 18:47 – Share when your cup is full 19:55 – Stop the scarcity mindset 20:27 – Don't deplete yourselves to help others 21:31 – Don't stop when the cup is full – you want an abundance to help others 22:34 – How big is your cup? 24:06 – How can I address my “upper limit challenge?” 24:12 – The book, The Big Leap talks about the upper limit challenge 24:18 – Each of us have an inner thermostat setting 24:40 – Dan shares an example of, How can I increase my sense of “deserving” success? 25:09 – When sense of deserving doesn't match the reality, people will find themselves back where they came from 26:03 – People self-sabotage until their reality matches their sense of deserving 26:26 – Other signs of the upper limit challenge is worry, blame, criticism, and not keeping promises 28:59 – The upper limit challenge negates people from identifying their sense of deserving 29:33 – When Dan was 17, he took some money from his savings account to visit Puerto Rico with a friend and his father thought it was stupid 29:57 – Dan shares more of his personal experiences with the upper limit challenge 31:51 – We come from family systems where successes are not really viewed positively 32:26 – This is one of the reasons why Dan talks so much about getting into masterminds 32:44 – Family systems become a hindrance for people to achieve success on their own 34:58 – Are you willing to find, develop, and fully use your strongest talents and passions? 35:10 – What is holding you back? 36:47 – Become a vessel where blessings can flow to other people 37:43 – Dan closes today's podcast   3 Key Points: Being broke is a state of mind—therefore, keep an open mind to money.
