We discuss the current state of affairs in northeastern Syria, particularly in Kobani, with Umar Menla Yusif, a local pharmacist from Kobani. The ongoing threats from Turkey have left residents anxious. On the contrary, there is a sense of optimism among the population that the new government after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime may bring peace to Syria, as the Syrian people are generally tired of conflicts and yearn for a peaceful life.

Falak is a young Kurdish woman from Kobani, who has been living in Germany for the past nine years following the siege by Islamic State (IS) in her hometown in September 2014. Currently, she is in her second year at university, pursuing studies in the health. Since her childhood, Falak has nurtured a passion for crafting love stories that delve into themes of human connection and a deep affection for her homeland. Alongside her writing endeavours, she takes pleasure in reciting classical Kurdish songs and poetry. In the absence of a camera, she ingeniously employs a mirror as a makeshift tool to capture her experiences. In this interview, Falak shares her enthusiasm for language, culture, and love for writing, while also expressing her desire to publish a book in the near future. - Felek keçek e ji Kobanî ye û ev neh sal in li Almanya dijî piştî dorpêçkirina DAIŞê di Îlona 2014an de. Dejan Koban: Pre_več

In today's episode, we'll dive into the psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of aesthetics. Find out how your brain senses aesthetic experiences, how aesthetic senses can influence your behavior, and why people have studied the field of aesthetics for so long.About Dr. Cliff Workman: When we judge people for their moral or prosocial behaviors, do our perceptions of their beauty influence our evaluations? I am interested in understanding how morality and beauty interact to modulate decision-making. Prior to joining the ChatLab, I was a postdoctoral scholar in the Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Chicago under the supervision of Jean Decety. Our work investigates the psycholigical and neural mechansisms underpinning political polarization and support for ideologically-motivated violence. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in England in 2016 where I investigated relations between moral cognition and emotions and the physiopathology of major depression. Before starting my PhD, I worked at Johns Hopkins University on neuroimaging studies of psychiatric disorders, and also completed a B.S. in Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I worked on studies of clinical, cognitive, and social functioning. On this episode of #90dayfiancewtf: First off, shout out to Jessica L.H. for leaving us a nice review on Apple Podcast and yes, we apologize, we are always behind. It's those damn 9-5 jobs that's taking time away from us wanting to focus on our podcast We detest the fact the Bilal smeared Shaeeda in front of his family and they're okay with it! Slow down, Guillermo. It's only your 2nd day in US. That laptop can come in later, it's not like you can work immediately… We think it's hard to mess up a frozen dinner, but we also theorized that this might have been done on purpose Why can't you just let Kobe hold Koban for just 1 sec, Emily? Let the man connect with his son! We blame Bini - he's the real villain! So Patrick thought he could get on Tinder and get a hook-up…now he's stuck geo-tagging his way through life Lan recommends watching Ozark on Netflix and The Staircase on Hulu Nadia recommends watching the NBA Playoffs (Go Dubs!) and The Kardashians on Hulu + Real Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo We really hope you are enjoying our podcast. As the crisis in Rojava deepens and political turmoil spreads across the world, it's critical for us to understand how we got here. Who exactly are the Kurds, and why have so many thousands of them been willing to risk their lives fighting against ISIS and to defend their autonomy? What can we learn from their struggle? In this episode, we examine the historical background to today's conflict by looking at the decades of militant Kurdish resistance that led up to the formation of the autonomous cantons of Rojava. You'll hear an audio version of CrimethInc.'s detailed 2015 essay “Understanding the Kurdish Resistance: A Historical Overview and Eyewitness Report,” which tracks the emergence of the Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK) and its conflicts with Turkish nationalism, waves of insurgency and repression, the evolution of Kurdish radical thought, the Revolutionary Patriotic Youth Movement, the Gezi Park uprising in Istanbul, the siege of Kobane, and lots more. To bring you up to date on developments since then, we also share an interview with one of the authors of the essay, in which we explore the impact of the failed 2016 coup attempt in Turkey, repression of social movements, Erdoğan's goals with the invasion, and prospects for resistance and solidarity. Stay tuned later this week for more interviews with people who've participated in the social revolution in Rojava. {October 16th, 2019}   -------SHOW NOTES------   Table of Contents: Introduction {0:01} Understanding the Kurdish Resistance {4:44} The Early Days of the PKK {5:30} Öcalan's Prison Years and the Peace Process {14:27} Gezi {20:25} The Wild Youth of Kurdistan {23:43} The Revolution in Kurdistan {31:44} The Fighters {36:12} Kobanê {43:47} National Liberation from Borders {47:24} Elections and a Massacre {51:03} Interview on Turkey and Kurdish Resistance Today {59:19} Conclusion {1:09:30} This episode centers on the 2015 CrimethInc. article “Understanding the Kurdish Resistance: A Historical Overview and Eyewitness Report”.
