We continue Reading Month with one of my least favorite genres. I'll traverse the galaxy to find a good topic for the podcast if I have to. And this week I have to. We'll cover what one Bible character did upon seeing a legitimate UFO; C.S. Lewis's attempt to get us to find Jesus on a different planet; the “proof” of alien life and why no one seems to care very much; and my own “close encounter of the board-gaming kind.”Hal Hammons serves as preacher and shepherd for the Lakewoods Drive church of Christ in Georgetown, Texas. He is the host of the Citizen of Heaven podcast. You are encouraged to seek him and the Lakewoods Drive church through Facebook and other social media. Lakewoods Drive is an autonomous group of Christians dedicated to praising God, teaching the gospel to all who will hear, training Christians in righteousness, and serving our God and one another faithfully. We believe the Bible is God's word, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, that heaven is our home, and that we have work to do here while we wait. Regular topics of discussion and conversation include: Christians, Jesus, obedience, faith, grace, baptism, New Testament, Old Testament, authority, gospel, fellowship, justice, mercy, faithfulness, forgiveness, Twenty Pages a Week, Bible reading, heaven, hell, virtues, character, denominations, submission, service, character, COVID-19, assembly, Lord's Supper, online, social media, YouTube, Facebook.

Some board games (and board game podcasts) thrive on chaos, which absolutely isn't the same thing as randomness. This episode we are joined by a special guest: renowned boardgame artist Andrew Bosley. You know his work from Mission: Red Planet, Everdell, Tapestry, and the newly-kickstarted Merchants of the Dark Road. Andrew shares some of the highlights of his career, which include his freelance days, working for Ubisoft as a concept artist, and of course his foray into board gaming. He also shares advice for young artists struggling with their work, looking for inspiration, or wanting to get into the board game industry. It's a fascinating conversation and Andrew was very giving of his time. In fact, he sticks around for the whole show!!! In this episode's Sizzling Games Mitch rolled with the sharks on the Strip in Lords of Vegas, Connor played the asymmetric-attacker Skulk Hollow, and Andrew and his son unwittingly unleashed the curses from The Big Book of Madness. In the Board Game Bracket we reveal the winner of Dice Throne vs Maximum Apocalypse, before announcing the new match-up: Great Western Trail vs Sheriff of Nottingham. Make sure you hit up our socials and cast your vote to make sure your favourite goes through to the next round. Finally, in Swear An Oath, Andrew joins in the fun with a pledge to finally get Root to the table, and we look forward to hearing if he fulfilled his oath in a future episode. Connor follows up his victory in Skulk Hollow with an oath to play the roll 'n' write game Steamrollers, and Mitch swears an oath to play Circle The Wagons after ticking Crossroads of Heroes off his to-do list. Thanks again to Andrew Bosley for joining us on the show, and to see more of Andrew's incredible work make sure you check out his website: https://www.bosleyart.com/ Topic of the Week: Andrew Bosley (1:38) Sizzling Games: Lords of Vegas (41:03), Skulk Hollow (47:45), The Big Book of Madness (51:42) Board Game Bracket (58:52) Swear An Oath (1:08:01) **JOIN OUR DISCORD!** The BGBBQ now has a Discord Channel. I remember my first love. She was always the life of the party, constantly kept me guessing, and had more tuck boxes than you could shake a stick at. Today we return to Gloomhaven with Jaws of the Lion. It's the same beast in a smaller box. We take a very deep look at what makes this game stand out and whether it holds up to its very significant weight. How does it land with players new to Gloomhaven? Will it inspire the same love in veteran players of the big box? We also discuss board game mechanisms that are criminally underused. Mechanisms that deliver such wonderful tensions that you have to wonder why we don't see more of them. Seriously if I don't see a closed economy auction in one more boardgame then somebody's going to jail. On another note, we are considering renaming our podcast to something that better fits our analytical and critical banter. Will, Brad, and Eric talk about and review Mission Red Planet the Board game from Fantasy Flight games. Game Description: With technology rapidly developing and the human population growing, Victorian-era Earth is in dire need of fuel, land, and other natural resources. Fortunately, automated probes sent to Mars have discovered celerium, an ore that can be combusted to produce ten thousand times more power than a steam engine, and sylvanite, the densest substance ever found. More incredibly, the probes found ice that could be used in terraforming the planet, bringing the idea of colonizing Mars even closer to becoming a reality. As the head of a mining corporation, these minerals and ice found on Mars could make you unfathomably wealthy – if you can reach them before your competitors. You have ten rounds to send your astronauts into space, occupy the planet's most resource-rich zones, and harvest as much celerium, sylvanite, and ice as possible. At your command is a team of nine professionals. Each has a unique skill set, from helping your astronauts traverse the Red Planet to blowing up spaceships before they launch. #10days10cards #boardgames #boardgame #boardgamegeek #bgg #analoggames #analoggaming #tabletop #tabletopgames #tabletopgaming #jeuxdesociete #juegodemesa #brettspiel #missionredplanet #fantasyflightgames #areacontrol #brunofaidutti #brunocathala #ethnos #GalileanMoons #fantasyworkhouse #cmon #coolminiornot #gameofthenight #bggcommunity #boardgamenight #boardgaming #cosmiccolonies #boardgamespotlight #bgspotlight --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

After a catch up with Craig's family on what they've been playing the past two weeks, the boys dig deep into two Living Card Games (Warhammer 40,000 Conquest and Android Netrunner) and two Collectible Miniature Games (Star Wars: Imperial Assault and the X-wing Miniatures Game) and why they have become completely addicted to each of these collectible games, the ups, the downs, and whether the cost is right. We hope you enjoy the first of two Fantasy Flight Games episodes in April, as next episode we discuss Warhammer Quest the Adventure Card Game and Mission Red Planet. Steampunk space travel rules the day as we review Mission: Red Planet. Then we kvetch about winter, or, more accurately, how other people experience winter. Will you feel the icy blast of Jack Frost's breath on your neck as we podcast? Probably not, since that isn't how computers work. But you will learn about a cure for a problem that you might have, and find out how the day ends at the Mildly Alarming Daycare. Intro gag: Comin' to ya live from the front of a parade, I'm Tom Rich and with me as always is imminent trampling danger, and this is the Mildly Alarming Podcast.
