Bible Reading: 2 Peter 3:18"Rose, look what I found in the woods!" Levi approached his sister carrying a cage. Something was moving inside.Rose shrieked. "Get that out of here!" Levi laughed. "It's only a garden snake," he said. "It can't hurt you.""Daddy!" Rose dashed behind her father, her eyes filled with fear. "Kill it, Daddy!""Don't be afraid." Dad put an arm around Rose. "What Levi says is true; garden snakes aren't poisonous. We don't kill something for no good reason.""Why do people hate snakes?" asked Levi."I guess because they can look scary, or they remind us of bad things," replied Dad. "It started long ago when Satan, in the form of a snake, tempted Eve in the garden of Eden and got her and Adam to sin. These days we sometimes hear about snakes killing other animals, like chickens. And some snakes are poisonous. Their bites can cause illness or even death.""If they'd quit biting people, maybe we'd like them better," said Rose. "God gives most animals a built-in mechanism for protection from enemies," Dad explained. "Porcupines have quills, skunks spray, and snakes have venom.""But most snakes aren't poisonous, are they?" asked Levi."No," Dad said. "Actually, they can be very helpful to people. Snakes eat mice and rats that carry germs. Hundreds of years ago, the Bubonic Plague--caused by infected fleas that lived on rats--killed a fourth of Europe's population. If there had been more snakes, the epidemic might not have been nearly as bad. And today, scientists are learning how to use snake venom to make medicine!""See, Rose," said Levi, "there are lots of good things about snakes." Dad nodded. "God created everything--even snakes--to be good. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and sin entered the world, it messed everything up, but God promises to make it right again one day. When Jesus returns and makes everything new, there will be no more pain, sickness, or death, and we'll never be afraid of any creature ever again." Levi and his sister studied their slithering captive in the cage. "Why don't we measure it," said Levi.Rose hesitated. "Okay," she finally said. "I'll get a tape measure. But I won't hold its tail!"–Janet E. RhineHow About You?Are there any animals or insects you're afraid of? Remember that God created each creature for a purpose--even the ones that scare you. One day, when Jesus restores creation to the way it's supposed to be, no creature will ever cause us fear or harm again. Until then, we can look for ways all creatures--even scary ones--reveal God's goodness and thank Him for His creation. Today's Key Verse:God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. (NIV) (Genesis 1:31)Today's Key Thought:Every creature serves a purpose

*This episode mentions violence and may be triggering for some listeners.* This week, we're joined by Demi-Leigh Tebow, a South African native, former Miss Universe, and wife of NFL superstar Tim Tebow. Demi-Leigh is a passionate advocate for individuals with special needs and disabilities. She discusses how her faith helped her overcome personal challenges, including a life-altering carjacking, and how it now fuels her mission to empower women through her Unbreakable Women's Workshop. Later in the episode, we'll hear from Kendall Vanderslice, a baker, writer, and teacher, who takes us on a profound dive into the practice of bread making. Kendall shares how she discovered baking as her calling, explores the rich symbolism of food in scripture, and reveals how the kitchen can become a sacred place for encountering God.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Molly Stillman Upcoming interview: Alyssa Bethke Jesus Calling commemorative edition  Jesus Calling app   Demi-Leigh Tebow Tim Tebow Unbreakable Conference A Crown That Lasts cerebellar agenesis The Tim Tebow Foundation Night to Shine Miss Universe human trafficking 1 Corinthians 9:25 NIV www.demitebow.com   Kendall Vanderslice Genesis 1 and 2 NIV Genesis 3 NIV www.kendallvanderslice.com Bake & Pray: Liturgies & Recipes for Baking Bread as a Spiritual Practice Interview Quotes: “I eventually realized that I had a choice to make. I could choose to question God for the rest of my life, or I could choose to trust Him for the rest of my life. I knew choosing to trust Him also meant making peace with knowing that I was not going to have all of the answers, and that that was going to be okay.” - Demi-Leigh Tebow “I don't like being interrupted. I don't like being taken off the course of my day. I don't like stopping to help somebody else in need. Right? That's uncomfortable. Well, I think that there can be so much blessing in obedience in those moments where we are willing to be interrupted for the sake of somebody else.” - Demi-Leigh Tebow  “I had to learn that if I truly wanted to have real confidence in my identity, I had to root my confidence in something other than myself. Something that is fixed. Something that is never changing. Something that is always trustworthy and something that is bigger than myself.” - Demi-Leigh Tebow  “My diamond and pearl crown did not last. But do you know what will last? The impact that I get to have with that crown, living out my God-given purpose, maybe using that crown as a vessel.” - Demi-Leigh Tebow “I am thankful for my plans that have been ruined. I am thankful for the wrenches that have been thrown in my plans. Because His plans have been better and bigger and more perfect for me every single time.” - Demi-Leigh Tebow  “It is such a joy to get to share what I have learned through the process of baking with others so that they can meet God in the kitchen with dough between their fingers.” - Kendall Vanderslice “The simplicity of baking itself is, I think, a really holy calling.” - Kendall Vanderslice  “We have this picture of death and resurrection all woven into the process of baking bread. I think it is no small matter that Jesus then chose bread as the central element of the communion table.” - Kendall Vanderslice “We are invited to rest, not as a reward for what we've gotten done, but as a means of delighting in God's creation and being reminded that we were created to take care of and delight in this delicious and beautiful world.” - Kendall Vanderslice  ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Just like current laws don't create compliance, the Old Testament law could never accomplish the thing you and I needed most... to make us alive! In other words, people don't follow a law simply because it's a law; and we are not made right with God simply because we follow the scriptural law. Paul shows the Galatians how much more important God's promises are over the rules and regulations. Part 6 - Promises, Promises (Galatians 3:15-29)Laws don't create “compliance”.   - Galatians 3:15-18 (NIV)   - Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV)Timeline: God makes this promise to Abraham - Then 430 years later… God gives the Israelites the Law.   - Galatians 3:19 (NIV)   - Galatians 3:21 (NIV)The Law… was given, but the law never gave life. The promise gave us life… The law gives us rules. The main point of Paul's argument here is that The Law cannot do the most important thing that we need done: it cannot make us alive! The promise/Spirit gives us access to God, the law only gives us guidelines. The promise/Spirit gives us victory over sin, the law only gives us awareness of sin. The promise/Spirit gives us acceptance, the law only gives us confinement & judgment. The law is a prison… The Spirit is freedom!Galatians 3:26-29 (NIV)If we are Christ's then everything changes… We have a new identity, new community, new inheritance.Luke 12:32 (NLT) “So don't be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.”If we are Christ's then we have nothing to fear. Even in the uncertain times.Ask yourself: What am I afraid of?Need Prayer?

THEME VERSE: Genesis 45:7-8 – “And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So, it was not you who sent me here, but God.”  SHOW NOTES: The story of Joseph has grabbed our hearts. This young man – certainly not perfect – faced some very difficult trials in his life and yet, he continued to trust God. The twists and turns in Joseph's journey in Egypt span over more than 27 years. He demonstrates great wisdom, discernment, and control when his 10 older brothers come to purchase grain. He keeps Simeon in Egypt and tells the 9 brothers they must return with the younger brother if they hope to see his face again. Eventually, Jacob allows Benjamin to travel with the brothers back to Egypt to purchase more grain and Judah gives his life as a pledge for Benjamin's safe return. Joseph invites them to a feast at his home, where he watches and observes the brothers closely. How do they treat each other? How do they treat Benjamin? He plans one more important test for the brothers and Judah steps forward to take the place of the youngest brother. When Joseph reveals his identity to the brothers, he pronounces God's sovereign plan to preserve many lives. He tells them, “You did not send me here, but God.” Scripture: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%2043-50&version=NIV (Genesis 43–50) SONG: "How Good Is He" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL4LIzYeOVA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL4LIzYeOVA)

Theme Verse: Genesis 42:18 - Joseph said to them, “Do this and you will live, for I fear God.”  SHOW NOTES: We have a Faithful God even when we can't see Him working – in the midst of a storm, walking in a dark valley, or even … sitting in a prison cell … today, Joseph will stand in Pharoah's courts. After 13 difficult years, Joseph is put in a position of power and great authority. He has a very important job to do and he is diligent in completing the task assigned to him. God has also blessed him with 2 sons. Life's Journey takes many twists and turns – unexpected joys and difficulties. But we do not walk alone. The Lord walks beside us. He is always working out the details of His plan … for you and for me. Here's the Truth – He is here in our midst … even when we don't see it, He is working, putting the pieces of His plan in place. He is always working out the details … for you and for me. Theme Verse: Genesis 39:21 – “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor.” SHOW NOTES: There are many lessons for us to learn and wisdom to glean from the lives of people found in the pages of Scripture. Some good examples and some mistakes that provide valuable guidelines and warnings for us to observe and follow. Joseph has been sold into slavery by his 10 older, jealous brothers and finds himself serving in the house of Potiphar. After Potiphar's wife attempts to seduce Joseph, she lies about him, and Joseph is put into prison. Sometimes God puts His choice servants on a shelf. It seems like God has forgotten Joseph! However, the Lord was with Joseph in every circumstance of His life. He showed him steadfast love and gave him favor. We have a faithful God even when we can't see Him working – in the midst of a storm, walking in a dark valley, or even … sitting in a prison.  Scripture: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+39%3A1-41%3A32&version=NIV (Genesis 39:1–41:32) SONG: "Faithful God" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUaS1Y-jyMk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUaS1Y-jyMk)

THEME VERSE: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”  – Genesis 50:20 SHOW NOTES: Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob – the loved son, the favored son. But his older brothers hated him. They vowed to never bow down before this boy with a coat of many colors. Can we trust God when we are walking through difficult times? Or do we only trust Him when everything seems to be going just fine? He sees our pain. He knows about the trouble, sadness, and difficult relationships in our lives. The goodness of God is evident every day. Take time to look for His good gifts – they are all around you … even when we find ourselves in a deep pit. Theme Verse: Genesis 28:3 “May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you...” SHOW NOTES: Our lives are filled with various journeys. People in the Bible give us real-life examples of how we can navigate the different miles along the way. In Genesis 25-28, we view the life's journey of Isaac, his wife, Rebekah, and their sons, Esau and Jacob. Twins, yet very different from each other. Their struggle was very real and unfortunately, their parents seemed to fan the flame of this sibling rivalry – tension and much competition. Our God is sovereign, and He desires us to walk with Him. He certainly doesn't need our help nor does He want us to “fix” impossible situations. Life's journeys include struggles and difficult times but each of us can always turn to the Lord. Scripture: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+25%3A20-28%2C27%3A1-46%2C28%3A1-5&version=NIV (Genesis 25:20-28, 27:1-46, 28:1-5) SONG: "The Blessing" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnC7z03QkEM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnC7z03QkEM) ISRAEL TOUR: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! Register Today! SHOW NOTES: Each of us travels a pathway with twists and turns, ups and downs, as well as walking the straight and narrow. We face challenges, struggles, joy, pleasure, and through the process – the journey of life – we grow and learn. Hopefully, we will mature and become wiser. The pages of God's Written Word have included amazing people and their stories offer keen insight about how we might continue the journey of our lives. Terah left Ur of the Chaldeans with Abram (his son), Sarai (Abram's wife), and Lot (his grandson) and headed toward the land of Canaan. However, Terah settled in Haran and he died there. There are important lessons for us to learn from the lives of these people in the book of Genesis. We've been looking through the imaginative, word-brushed paintings of God's life-creating power in Genesis 1-3 as we read Psalm 119. (To understand more what makes Psalm 119 so unique in the Bible, read the show notes from the Dec 21 episode.) Genesis 3 is a powerful picture of the resulting dysfunctions in every human heart after the man and woman (Adam and Eve) chose to transgress God's one commandment. Genesis 3 poetically paints the human story of how, now driven by insecurities and distrust, we hide from God behind all the trees and cover ourselves and our shame from one another while seeking to manipulate others for our selfish desires. But https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%203%3A15&version=NIV (Genesis 3:15) also foreshadows that God will ultimately destroy the Serpent and our resulting dysfunction through the death and resurrection and victory of the male human offspring of the woman. We're in the middle of that story right now, between Jesus's death and resurrection and ascension, while we await his kingdom coming to bring a new, resurrected body and soul to his people, and to renew and restore all creation. And in the middle of this already/not-yet reality, God is progressively renewing and transforming his people through his Spirit (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Corinthians%203%3A18&version=NIV (2 Cor 3:18)). https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Corinthians%204%3A6&version=NIV (2 Corinthians 4:6) uses the poetic imagery of https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%201%3A1-2%3A3&version=NIV (Genesis 1:2-3) as a picture of what God's Spirit must do in the heart of every follower of Christ. Several Old Testament prophecies tell of this heart transformation that will come. Like almost all Old Testament prophecies, these promises are already but not yet, just as Christ's coming is already but not yet. Partially now in the hearts of all followers of Christ through his Spirit, but not fully until Christ brings bodily resurrection when he brings his kingdom of heaven back to earth. Jeremiah 31:33 NIV “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Ezekiel 11:19–20 NIV I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God. Ezekiel 36:26–28 NIV I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. One of the important themes throughout Psalm 119 is our need for God to open our eyes, enlarge our heart, and give us understanding – all by the Spirit's life-transforming power in his word. Unless and until God does that, God's word (the gospel/the Bible) will always seem boring and irrelevant to what matters to us most. (Show notes in the previous couple episodes shows how the Bible teaches that the work of God's Spirit is inseparably linked to the work of God's word – the Bible). What is the chicken and the egg here? Does God respond to our prayer for his Spirit's transformation of our heart, or do we care enough to pray for God to transform our heart as a result of his Spirit's work of transformation? The answer is Yes. We respond to him as his Spirit works in our heart, but as his Spirit works in our heart we must respond to him and ask him to continue to open our eyes and heart to him. And this is where the prayers and meditations of Psalm 119 are helpful to us. Psalm 119

Psalm 119

In this moving message, Pastor Zach Maddox shares what God has to say about the life of the unborn. Our prayer is that this message encourages you to speak up for the unborn by praying, adopting, and supporting Matrix LifeCare Center. Notes: Theme: What does God have to say about the life of the unborn? Life Change Goal: Our prayer is that this message encourages you to speak up for the unborn by praying, adopting, and supporting Matrix LifeCare Center. Text: Luke 1:39-45 (ESV); Genesis 1:27 (NIV) What is abortion? What does Scripture say about abortion? God personally and individually creates every human life. Genesis 4:1 (ESV) Genesis 21:1-2 (NLT) Genesis 25:21-22 (NLT) Job 10:8-11 (NLT) Exodus 4:11 (ESV) John 9:1-3 (ESV) Psalm 100:3 (ESV) Psalm 139:13 (NLT) Psalm 139:15-16 (NLT) Ecclesiastes 11:5 (NLT) God judges nations who stain their land with murder. Psalm 106:37-38 (NIV) Genesis 4:8-10 (NLT) What should a person do if they have had or participated in an abortion. What can we do as a church? Proverbs 31:8-9 (NLT) Conclusion: Scripture tells us that before God formed us in our mother's womb, He knew us. Before we were born we were set apart. That's not just for us, that's for every baby conceived in our nation, and on this planet (Jeremiah 1:5). In response to this message I will… I will share part of this message with... Discussion Questions: Start Talking. Find a conversation starter for your group. What do you love about babies? Start Thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking. Do you know anyone who has adopted a child? If so, what kind of difference did that make in the life of the child and the family who adopted them? Start Sharing. Choose a couple of questions to create openness. What was something you learned about abortions you had not previously been aware of? What Scripture was most meaningful to you in regards to what God thinks about the unborn? When could you set aside time to pray for our nation, it's leaders, and those who perform or participate in abortions? When could you visit Matrix LifeCare Center to see the difference they are making in the greater Lafayette area?

Do you sometimes think that your desire for greatness and glory is pride? Do you sometimes feel guilty for that as if somehow that's an inordinate desire that you need to confess as pride? The desire for greatness and glory is actually not the same as pride. Pride is in fact a virus that hijacks that desire. But the desire for greatness and glory is God given. It's what God intended for you as part of humanity because it's what God intended in creating humanity in his image (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%201%3A26-28&version=NIV (Genesis 1:26-28)). In actuality, the gospel is God restoring us to greatness and glory (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%208%3A16-21&version=NIV (Romans 8:16-21)). One of the ways that we live a bigger life is to develop a biblical vocabulary for prayer that keeps us in this bigger story — keeps our lives in the narrative of the gospel. And Psalm 85 is a great psalm for that. Listen in with me and let's see how. Psalm 85 ESV 2 You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. 4 Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us!  6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your steadfast love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.  8 Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly.  9 Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.  10 Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.  11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky.  12 Yes, the LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase.  13 Righteousness will go before him and make his footsteps a way. What in your life is affecting your identity in christ?   Has past experiences been holding you back from recognizing your royalty status?   This past Sunday we had a special message focusing on royalty. As we go through life, we inevitably come across people and situations that seek to undermine our image of ourselves as God made us.    At times we can become frustrated with how people treat us and what goes on in our daily lives. This makes it all the more important to remind ourselves of our royalty, and the special relationship each one of us has to God.    The word tells us that Jesus was "despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering and familiar with pain." this lets us know that through our walk, we can be rest assured that he understands us as he's gone through the same struggles. The price Jesus paid for us on the cross, solidifies our royalty status in him.   Scripture References: Psalm 139:13-19 (NIV) Isaiah 53:2-3 (NIV) Genesis 1:26-28 (NIV) Genesis 2:6-7 (NIV)

Jeremy reflects on an old episode of the sitcom Perfect Strangers that he recently watched with his family. No one wants to be taken advantage of.  Instead, we want what is fair and just. But, what happens when God is factored into the equation? By considering the story of Abraham in Lot in Genesis 13, we find out. Keep on living unleashed. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+13&version=NIV (Genesis 13) Abraham and Lot. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+14%3A14&version=NIV (Exodus 14:14) The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+2%3A5-8&version=NIV (Philippians 2:5-8)  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Jesus Christ: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death–even death on a cross! (Bold mine)

Terry Davis is an author, attorney, business coach and abundance mentor. He is the founder of SmartBizUniversity.com, an online mentoring and business development training program for small and medium sized businesses. He has served as counsel for several successful startups, including the company that first introduced global Internet service to the commercial cruise-line industry. His book Receive and Achieve…Now! 15 Bible Secrets on How to Find Joy, Success & Abundance in Small Business is about “equipping the saints for success and warfare.” Terry says, “I wrote this book...to provide entrepreneurs with a system to grow their businesses based on biblical principles so they can transform the world.” Terry is married with two children. He is an active member of the Church of the Highlands in Montgomery, Alabama. In this episode, we will cover:  3 Secrets to Developing an Abundance Mentality... Prepare for spiritual warfare. Have faith in God. Be a giver. 6 Myths About Abundance and Money... It’s wrong to pray about money. It’s wrong to desire prosperity. Having wealth makes you a bad person. Having money is the root of all evil. God doesn’t care about trials with money. God is pleased when we seek security. And More... Why it’s important to act and pray like God wants us to be abundant. How having abundance enables us to do more of what God calls us to do. The difference between money and the love of money being “the root of all evil.” Handling the difficult choice of staying on the path God has called you to or going back to doing what makes money when times are financially tough. Dealing with the IRS when you have tax issues. The difference between having faith and exercising faith. The story about two farmers and which one exercised more faith. The importance of recognizing that everything we have belongs to God. How money is “neutral” and what we can do to “put God’s Spirit on it” by giving back to Him. How developing the habit of giving prepares us to willingly respond to God’s promptings when He needs us to give in specific situations. God’s word talks about money more than any other topic in the Bible. How money makes you more of who you already are. Using music, people, and the things you expose yourself to ion order to be pickled in the Gospel and become a person who will make right choices because of the influence and spirit you are under all the time. Why it's important to get yourself financially and spiritually fit so you can go out and do God’s work. When it comes to money, God wants us to be not like a sieve or strainer but like a funnel so that when He pours wealth into our lives, He is able to direct where it goes. We do that by 1) making a budget, 2) giving back to God, 3) saving money, 4) creating an emergency fund, 5) starting to eliminate debt. In other words, don’t pray for money on the one hand and then be irresponsibly spending or wasting it on the other. Scriptures Quoted or Referenced:   Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV) Genesis 22:13: “Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.” (NIV) Ephesians 6:10-17:  “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then,
