Kenneth Dion, PhD, MSN, MBA, RN, RCSI, FAAN, Sigma President, is a 40-year veteran of the health care industry. He is a nurse entrepreneur, inventor, and scholar. In 1999, Dr. Dion founded Decision Critical, Inc., an information systems company, to meet the education, compliance, and competency development needs of health care organizations. In 2012, Decision Critical was acquired by HealthStream, Inc., where Dr. Dion served as vice president and chief of nursing informatics until 2014.  Dr. Dion joined Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 2018 as the Inaugural Dean for Business Innovation and Strategic Relationships. Let me tell you, this was a validating and difficult conversation to have. We were *not* in a great place before the pandemic hit, so it is not surprising to learn about the toll it is taking on us. Per a study referenced in the interview, 75% - 77% of us are experiencing a clinical diagnosis of depression, anxiety, PTSD or insomnia. That is most of us! The way through is not an easy fix. It's time we are transparent about how we are doing when we consider re-building. Nursing is not the same as it was in 2019. So, we talk about what we can do as individuals and as healthcare leaders. Some of the work is personal and some of it is organizational. Staff truly need support in this time, so peer support programs are essential, as well as having authentic leadership as highlighted in the Healthy Work Environment by AACN. Interview with Eileen T. Lake, PhD, RN, author of Association Between Hospital Recognition for Nursing Excellence and Outcomes of Very Low-Birth-Weight Infants

Nurses from developed countries who have advanced degrees, such as MSN and PHd. are strategically positioned to meet the growing need of Nursing Leadership development of nurse leaders and the promotion of excellence in nursing care in developing countries. Today in many developing countries, nursing is still yet to be recognized for its significant impact on quality patient care. As a result, these nurses are seen more as subordinates to physicians and lack the opportunities to develop to their full potential as leaders in health care organizations and in the provision of quality patient care. This session will provide you with the knowledge of the presenter's journey in living & working as a missionary nurse in India, and her continued passion to work with nurses in India while now living in the USA.

The desire to create an environment where nurses were valued, supported and empowered led to the development of a Nursing Professional Practice Council within an Ontario Public Health Unit.
