The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe the Oak Island Money Pit in Nova Scotia, Canada. First discovered in 1795 but also possibly first discovered centuries earlier, this hole has been probed many a time by many a company. Most of those companies went bankrupt and pulled out of the hole. The hole, Daniel's hole to begin with, had many a log inside. It wasn't just logs in this hole, there was a mysterious inscribed stone and evidence of past exploration. But was there treasure buried inside and did that treasure once belong to a pirate or explorer who couldn't reclaim what was once theirs? If so, did they booby trap the hole, or was a curse placed upon the Money Pit? Did seven people need to die before the treasure could be found and if so, how many people have actually died looking for this treasure? All that and more on this week's file. My guest for this episode is legendary paranormal investigator and author Lionel Fanthorpe. Lionel has had a prolific writing career dating back to 1952 which has seen him pen hundreds of books. Not only has he written science fiction stories, but together with his wife Patricia, also non-fiction books on an array of subjects, most notably the paranormal, unexplained mysteries of the world, poetry and religion. He has travelled the world in search of the unexplained, endeavouring to unravel such mysteries as the ‘Oak Island Money Pit' and ‘The Creeping Coffins of Barbados'. He has presented a number of television series, perhaps the best known being the cult Channel Four show, ‘Fortean TV'. During this time in his career he was also a practicing Anglican priest, which added a novel element to his televisual exploration of the unknown. Currently he is also the president of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena. As well as being a major contributor to paranormal research, he is a former journalist, teacher, head teacher, army rock climbing instructor and also a World Judo Association Black Belt Fifth Dan. I begin the interview by talking with Lionel about his early experiences of the paranormal and how his interest in that field developed. From there we discuss his writing career, his time as a journalist, what prompted him to become an Anglican priest and how all of these things have in some way influenced the way he investigated and contemplated the unusual phenomena he has encountered. Further information about Lionel can be found at his official website https://www.lionelfanthorpe.co.uk/. He also has a YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@lionelfanthorpeofficial5752. Over two centuries ago, a discovery was made on Oak Island, off the coast of Canada, that unleashed one of the most expensive treasure hunts in history. Even President Roosevelt and actor John Wayne have been involved in funding it. The audio quality can be a little wonky this week. We've identified the issue and resolved it. Sorry about that. We've heard for years that gamers are violent. But what if gamers were more peaceful in game than the people around them in real life? A really interesting new study has identified that gamers behave differently in EVE Online depending on the type of community they live in.The Nirvana Nevermind baby isn't happy about his nudes being plastered all over record stores and the internet. Now he's suing. We're not legal beagles, but we've got opinions.Roblox is bad. It isn't the simple gameplay, the child targeted community, or the memes. Actually, it's bad because it's one of the worst deals for game devs out there. Roblox seem intent to make it hard to make money from developing on their platform. That's a really nice way to treat the people who made your game popular. People are also trying to recreate mass killings in a game for children. Davatzes joined the company as CEO in 1983 just as A&E Networks was formed through the merger of fledgling cable channels Entertainment Network, owned by RCA and the Rockefeller family, and ARTS Network, owned by Hearst and ABC. A+E Networks today is a 50-50 joint venture of the Walt Disney Co. and Hearst Corp. Davatzes served as CEO emeritus. Davatzes led the company's launch of the signature A&E Network (an amalgam of Arts and Entertainment) in 1984 and History Channel in 1995 (History formally dropped “Channel” from its moniker in 2008). He served as CEO of the parent company through 2005, when he was succeeded by protege Abbe Raven, who started at the company as a secretary. Davatzes was known for promoting educational outreach and the importance of industry R&D during his run at A&E Networks. The company later expanded to include the Lifetime cable channel as well as more recent entries like lifestyle channel FYI and Lifetime Movie Network. Disney executive chairman Bob Iger hailed him as a “towering figure in the early days of cable television (who helped) build some of the most iconic brands in the media landscape.” Iger added that he was “a person of true integrity.” He died in Wilton, Connecticut.24th August 2021 – Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts passes away at 80 - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-25/rolling-stones-drummer-charlie-watts-dies-at-age-80/100404658Charlie Watts, the drummer who provided the backbone of the Rolling Stones' songs for more than half a century, has died. Watts "passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family," his publicist Bernard Doherty said. "Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones, as one of the greatest drummers of his generation." The quiet, elegantly dressed Watts was often ranked with Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and a handful of others as a premier rock drummer, respected worldwide for his muscular, swinging style as the band rose from its scruffy beginnings to international superstardom. He joined the Stones early in 1963 and remained over the next 60 years, ranked just behind Jagger and Keith Richards as the group's longest lasting and most essential members. Watts stayed on, and largely held himself apart, through the drug abuse, creative clashes and ego wars that helped kill founding member Brian Jones, drove bassist Bill Wyman and Jones' replacement Mick Taylor to quit and otherwise made being in the Stones the most exhausting of jobs. The Stones began, Watts said, "as white blokes from England playing black American music" but quickly evolved their own distinctive sound. Watts was a jazz drummer in his early years and never lost his affinity for the music he first loved, heading his own jazz band and taking on numerous other side projects. He had his eccentricities — Watts liked to collect cars even though he didn't drive and would simply sit in them in his garage. But he was a steadying influence on stage and off as the Stones defied all expectations by rocking well into their 70s, decades longer than their old rivals The Beatles. He died in London with his family around him.25th August 2021 – Linux turns 30 - https://www.zdnet.com/article/linus-torvalds-on-linuxs-30th-birthday/ In 1991, Unix was an important but secondary x86 operating system. That year, on August 25, a mild-mannered Finnish graduate student named Linus Benedict Torvalds announced on the Usenet group comp.os.minix that he was working on "a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones." No one knew it, not even Torvalds, but the technology was going to change forever. Thirty years later, Linux rules IT. Almost all major websites -- including Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia -- run on Linux. It's the same with the clouds. Even on Microsoft's own Azure, the most popular operating system is Linux. As for supercomputers, all 500 of the world's fastest 500 supercomputers run Linux. Thanks to Android, Linux is also the most popular end-user operating system. Not bad for a hobby operating system! In those very first days, Linux wasn't formally known as Linux. Torvalds explained, "Linux was my working name, but I never wanted to release it as Linux. Linux was a perfectly good working name, but if I actually used it as the official one, people would think that I am an egomaniac and wouldn't take it seriously. So I chose this very bad name, "Freax," for "Free Unix." Fortunately, the first Linux administrator Ari Lemmk, decided Freax was a silly name too. Hence, he actually named it Linux because he thought this internal project name was Torvalds first choice.Remembrances25th August 1822 – William Herschel - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_HerschelGerman-born British astronomer and composer. He frequently collaborated with his younger sister and fellow astronomer Caroline Lucretia Herschel. Born in the Electorate of Hanover, William Herschel followed his father into the military band of Hanover, before emigrating to Great Britain in 1757 at the age of nineteen. Herschel constructed his first large telescope in 1774, after which he spent nine years carrying out sky surveys to investigate double stars. Herschel published catalogues of nebulae in 1802 (2,500 objects) and in 1820 (5,000 objects). The resolving power of the Herschel telescopes revealed that many objects called nebulae in the Messier catalogue were actually clusters of stars. On 13 March 1781 while making observations he made note of a new object in the constellation of Gemini. This would, after several weeks of verification and consultation with other astronomers, be confirmed to be a new planet, eventually given the name of Uranus. This was the first planet to be discovered since antiquity, and Herschel became famous overnight. As a result of this discovery, George III appointed him Court Astronomer. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society and grants were provided for the construction of new telescopes. Herschel pioneered the use of astronomical spectrophotometry, using prisms and temperature measuring equipment to measure the wavelength distribution of stellar spectra. In the course of these investigations, Herschel discovered infrared radiation. Other work included an improved determination of the rotation period of Mars, the discovery that the Martian polar caps vary seasonally, the discovery of Titania and Oberon (moons of Uranus) and Enceladus and Mimas (moons of Saturn). Herschel was made a Knight of the Royal Guelphic Order in 1816. He was the first President of the Royal Astronomical Society when it was founded in 1820. He died at the age of 83 at Observatory House, Windsor Road, Slough Herschel's epitaph is Coelorum perrupit claustra (He broke through the barriers of the heavens).Famous Birthdays25th August 1819 – Allan Pinkerton - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_PinkertonScottish–American detective and spy, best known for creating the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Pinkerton first became interested in criminal detective work while wandering through the wooded groves around Dundee, looking for trees to make barrel staves, when he came across a band of counterfeiters, who may have been affiliated with the notorious Banditti of the Prairie. After observing their movements for some time he informed the local sheriff, who arrested them. This later led to Pinkerton being appointed, in 1849, as the first police detective in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. In 1850, he partnered with Chicago attorney Edward Rucker in forming the North-Western Police Agency, which later became Pinkerton & Co, and finally Pinkerton National Detective Agency, still in existence today as Pinkerton Consulting and Investigations, a subsidiary of Securitas AB. Pinkerton's business insignia was a wide open eye with the caption "We never sleep." As the US expanded in territory, rail transport increased. Pinkerton's agency solved a series of train robberies during the 1850s, first bringing Pinkerton into contact with George McClellan, then Chief Engineer and Vice President of the Illinois Central Railroad, and Abraham Lincoln, the company's lawyer. When the Civil War began, Pinkerton served as head of the Union Intelligence Service during the first two years, heading off an alleged assassination plot in Baltimore, Maryland while guarding Abraham Lincoln on his way to Washington, D.C. as well as identifying troop numbers in military campaigns. His agents often worked undercover as Confederate soldiers and sympathizers to gather military intelligence. Pinkerton himself served on several undercover missions as a Confederate soldier using the alias Major E.J. Allen. He worked across the Deep South in the summer of 1861, focusing on fortifications and Confederate plans. This counterintelligence work done by Pinkerton and his agents is comparable to the work done by today's U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agents in which Pinkerton's agency is considered an early predecessor. He was succeeded as Intelligence Service chief by Lafayette Baker; the Intelligence Service was the predecessor of the U.S. Secret Service. His work led to the establishment of the Federal secret service. Despite his agency's later reputation for anti-labor activities, Pinkerton himself was heavily involved in pro-labor politics as a young man. Though Pinkerton considered himself pro-labor, he opposed strikes and distrusted labor unions. He was born in Gorbals, Glasgow.Events of Interest25th August 1957- The Invisible Man Vs. The Human Fly premiered in Japan - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204691/ A star is born! On this day in 1957 (in Japan), The Invisible Man Vs. The Human Fly took to the silver screen for a monster of a pairing! Directed by Mitsuo Murayama, the SciFi/Fantasy starred Ryûji Shinagawa and Yoshirô Kitahara; and here's the plot summary: "A ruthless serial killer with a peculiar method of stalking and killing his victims comes face to face with a police officer turned invisible by a scientific experiment. Who will emerge triumphant?" In the late 1950s, in the United States this film was announced, and stills were published, under the English language title "The Murdering Mite." This film shares part of its Japanese title with the Japanese release of the much better-known 1958 U.S. science fiction film The Fly, which was released in Japan as Fear of the Fly Man (ハエ男の恐怖 Hae Otoko no Kyōfu), though with the 'Fly' in "Fly Man" spelled in katakana rather than kanji characters. While both films feature "fly men," The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly actually predates the latter film by almost an entire year.25th August 1989 – Voyager 2 spacecraft makes its closest approach to Neptune, the last planet in the Solar System at the time, due to Pluto being within Neptune's orbit from 1979 to 1999 - https://www.wired.com/2010/08/0825voyager2-neptune/ Voyager 2 makes its closest encounter with Neptune, passing just 3,000 miles above the cloud tops of the most distant planet in our solar system. The Voyager 2 space probe has been our most productive unmanned space voyage. It visited all four of the outer planets and their systems of moons and rings, including the first visits to previously unexplored Uranus and Neptune. Voyager 2 found four rings and evidence for ring arcs, or incomplete rings, above Neptune. That means all four of the gas giants in our solar system have rings. Neptune's, however, are very meager compared to the magnificent rings around Saturn. In the late 19th century, astronomers thought that an unseen Planet X was influencing the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. The observed positions of the two planets and their calculated positions differed. Among those astronomers convinced of the existence of Planet X was Clyde Tombaugh. In 1930 while scanning areas of the sky for Planet X, he found Pluto. When Voyager 2 flew by Neptune, it took very precise measurements of Neptune's mass and found it to be about 0.5 percent less massive than previous estimates. When the orbits of Uranus and Neptune were recalculated using the more accurate mass figure, it became clear that the imprecise number for Neptune -- and not the gravity of an unseen planet -- had caused the observed orbital discrepancies. After its encounter with Neptune, the spacecraft was rechristened the Voyager Interstellar Mission by NASA to take measurements of the interplanetary magnetic field, plasma and charged-particle environment. But mostly it's searching for the heliopause, the distance at which the solar wind becomes subsumed by the more general interstellar wind.IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/Email - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.comSupport via Podhero- https://podhero.com/podcast/449127/nerds-amalgamated See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Money Pit on Oak Island in Nova Scotia sure has people excited. So excited that they have been digging there FOR CENTURIES trying to find what could be pirate treasure, proof that Shakespeare didn't write any of his famed works, French Naval treasure or even THE HOLY GRAIL! Who knows though, maybe it's just a big sinkhole. Either way, enough exciting artifacts have been found by many different dedicated groups throughout the years to keep the dig alive with hopes that someday the mystery will be solved. Jesse Gee returns to the show to help me make some sense of it all. We eventually get into a couple fun stories of possible treasures buried in the Los Angeles area, where he resides. The Oak Island Money Pit- definitely one of North America's greatest unsolved mysteries and the subject of a long running show on The History Channel- is said to contain a treasure of unknown magnitude- but what that treasure is made up of is uncertain. A few things are certain- the money pit, which is 130 feet deep, is deadly, and has taken 6 lives so far without giving anyone solid answers. Efforts to excavate the pit and subsequent parallel pits and tunnels have provided disastrous results as the pits fill with salt water and become deadly traps. Artifacts are being found- ancient miners axes and helmets, Roman crosses, pieces of parchment from Elizabethan times, small idols, a Portuguese coin, and evidence of sophisticated beach rebuilding for the purpose of installing vents leading toward the pit that was first discovered by boys in 1795. Maybe you can find the answer. Let us know at www.facebook.com/1001Heroes. Jesse James left behind secret diaries and coded treasure maps. Working to decrypt these maps, Daniel J. Duke--the great-great grandson of Jesse James--reveals hidden treasures yet to be recovered as well as connections between the infamous train robber and Freemasonry, the Knights Templar, the Founding Fathers, and Jewish mysticism. The author explains how Jesse James faked his death and lived out his final years under the name James L. Courtney. He uncovers James’ affiliation with the Knights of the Golden Circle, a secret society that buried Confederate gold across the United States, and shows how the hidden treasures coded into James’ maps were not affiliated with the KGC but with the Freemasons, the Knights Templar, and the treasure of the Temple Mount. Using sacred geometry, gematria, and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life symbol, the author explains the encoded map technique used by the Freemasons to hide and later recover treasures, an esoteric template known as the “Veil”. He shows how the Veil template confirms the locations of Jesse James’ recovered treasures in Texas as well as other suspected treasure locations, such as the Oak Island Money Pit and Victorio Peak in New Mexico. Tracing knowledge of the Veil template back through the centuries, the author reveals the Veil hidden on the cover of a 16th-century book that contains a secret map of the New World and the “hooked X” symbol of the Knights Templar. He shows how the template was used not only to hide treasures but also sacred knowledge and relics, such as within the Bruton Vault, which originally contained secrets tied to Francis Bacon, the Freemasons, the Rosicrucians, and the founding of the United States. Applying the Veil template alongside the esoteric secrets of Poussin’s famous painting, Et In Arcadia Ego, and Cassini’s Celestial Globe, Duke shows how the template reveals other Templar and Freemason treasure sites scattered throughout America and around the world. There are hidden treasures all around the world just waiting to be discovered by adventurous hunters. The stories on this list chronicle some of the most enigmatic fourtunes hiding out there. These are 5 most Mysterious treasures around the world. 5. Oak Island Money Pit Considered one of the last great-unsolved mysteries in the world, the Oak Island Money Pit in Nova Scotia has baffled many people since 1795. During that year, a young man named Daniel McInnis found a shallow depression in Oak Island. Intrigued, Daniel, together with two friends, began digging, hoping to find what was underneath. The trio uncovered flagstones after several feet. Then, about ten feet after that, they found a tier of rotten logs. 4. Forrest Fenn What's one of the best ways to leave a legacy? Tell everyone you buried $2 million dollars worth of treasure and urge them to go out and find it. That's exactly what eccentric multimillionaire, Forrest Fenn has done. Fenn is a former air force pilot, business entrepreneur, writer and artifacts collector. At 86 when he penned his memoir, Thrill of the Chase, he decided to stir controversy by stating he buried a treasure chest containing $2 million worth of gold and jewels in the Rocky Mountains, just North of Santa Fe. Clues pointing to the exact location of the treasure are hidden inside a poem in his book. He has also given additional hints and clues in interviews as well as blog postings. 3. Beale Cyphers The Beale Cyphers or the Beale Papers is a three-page pamphlet containing cipher codes published in 1885. Out of all three pamphlets, only one has been deciphered so far and what it says is quite intriguing. According to the story, a frontiersman named Thomas J. Beale left behind the cipher texts in the 1820’s. He met an innkeeper by the name of Robert Morris and left behind the pamphlets in a strongbox before going out mining. Over the course of several months, Morris received letters from Beale chronicling his mining expedition and providing instructions to Morris not to open the strongbox until 1832. 2. Saddle Ridge Gold Discovered in 2013, the Saddle Ridge Gold is one of the biggest treasure finds in recent history. It began when a couple walked their dog one morning around their property in Califorinia. Although they've used the trail numerous times, that morning, they discovered a rusty tin can poking out of the ground. They took the can home thinking it contained lead paint. But while struggling to carry it, a portion of the lid cracked open to reveal the edge of a single gold coin. 1. Copper Scroll Treasure First discovered in the caves of Qumran in Israel, the Copper Scroll was found alongside the scrolls that would later on become labeled as the Dead Sea Scrolls and eventually make up the Bible. However, the copper scroll was different from the rest of those found in the stash. Whereas the Dead Sea Scrolls were written on papyrus and paper, this one is made and written on copper mixed with tin. The scroll was found on March 14, 1952 and one of the last 15 scrolls found in Cave 3 of the Qumran site. Those were the 5 Most Mysterious Treasures Around the World The promise of finding the ultimate treasure is always exciting. The clues pointing to these fourtunes may be cracked one day or they might not. Whatever the case, if you do go searching for it, the thrill of the hunt and promise of adventure is guaranteed.
It's another one about urban legends. What more do you need to know? If you want another whole elaborate, silly teaser thing, I'll write it, but like, you could just be listening already, you know? Fine. This week, Wyatt digs into the several-centuries-long mystery of Canada's Nova Scotia's Oak Island's Money Pit, also just called "The Oak Island Money Pit" apparently. What exactly the hell is buried down those hundreds of feet of now constantly flooded tunnel, and will it prove once and for all that Shakespeare's plays were originally written in Wingings? Jake then heads west to Turnbull Canyon, where either a nightmarish cacophony of constant paranormal horrors has been happening for ages, or nothing at all is or ever was happening other than it being a pleasant place for a hike. Today on everyone's favorite podcast for conspiracy, the paranormal, & the all around fringe: Alright Higherside Chatters, it's no surprise that the elite speak to each other in coded symbolism not meant for mere commoners or non-initiates- and we've seen the breadcrumbs of this stretching back centuries. Sometimes it's in statues and obelisks, sometimes in the architecture of famous buildings, and sometimes it's in the media. This doesn't surprise us today, but what if many old famous landmarks that we take for granted in modern times actually contain indications that they're connected to a group of Royal bloodlines and an inner circle that we haven't heard much about? Well when it comes to such legends and landmarks as the Oak Island Money Pit, Rennes Le Chateau, Washington DC, Sterling Castle, Roslyn Chapel, and the like- as we're going to learn today, this might be the case. Of course, many seekers have sought to unravel the mysteries in these locations, the secret messages in famous paintings, and the hidden meanings of their associated lore.... hoping to unearth some hidden Templar or Masonic riches at the end of the proverbial rainbow like a real life National Treasure situation, but they've all had little luck so far. As far as we know. People, these are the themes in the work of today's long overdue returning guest Cort Lindahl. Cort joined us back in 2014 to talk about his book Axis Mundi which looked at a particular type of Geomancy and building design that aligned certain landmarks across huge portions of the globe- and he's been expanding on that research ever since having released several new books along the way, such as: The Geographic Mysteries of Sir Francis Bacon: The Truth about Oak Island and more The Secrets of Edgar Allan Poe, the Kensington Rune, and Beale Treasure Revealed.: The use of the Prime Meridian in Talismanic Architecture Mysteries and Legends of Northern California: The Truth About Mt. O, Canada – the Great White North. Known for hockey, maple syrup, and Templar Knight treasure? King Solomon’s Menorah? Original Shakespearean manuscripts? While all of those might sound absurd (Vermont makes the best maple syrup silly). That and more are believed to be buried at the bottom of the Oak Island Money Pit. An alleged treasure location on Oak Island – a small island off the southern shore of Nova Scotia. Amid 2 centuries of digging, booby traps, and death, no one has discovered the location of the treasure, the origin, or its contents. Truth be told, there’s actually no proof a treasure of any type even exists. And yet, the treasure hunters endure. This week we “drill” into the history of the search and try to get to the “bottom” of the legend’s origin. “Dig” in with us on the podcast that always finds the treasure…at the bottom of the cereal box – Hysteria 51.

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys discuss one of world's strangest mysteries. The Oak Island Money Pit. In 1795, a teenager named Daniel McGinnis found an oval-shaped recession in the ground on the island. With little evidence that there was anything to be discovered, McGinnis started digging in the area and subsequently hit wooden planks every ten feet. The discovery of the planks led McGinnis and his friends to believe the pit was man-made and they began what would become a long-standing tradition of treasure seeking in the area. From the beginning of the 19th century onward, many companies formed to begin their own digging expeditions in the pit, each discovering more "evidence" and attributing new theories to the region. Errol Flynn, John Wayne, and Franklin Roosevelt were at one point each involved in the hunt and held their own theories as to the pit’s contents. Some believed pirate treasure lay just below the next layer of soil. Others believed Marie Antoinette’s lost jewels were surely buried there right after the French Revolution. Another theory even posited that Francis Bacon had stored documents in the pit proving himself as the author of Shakespeare’s plays. There are many other theories one big one is that "The Arc Of the Covenant" lies at the bottom. Despite the wild theories, little has ever come out of the pit. Everything ever found in the pit has been attributed to some treasure theory. A cavern found during the dig was deemed a booby trap. Another tunnel leading out of the pit to Smith’s cove was deemed a secret floodway. Any wood found in tunnel was immediately considered a part of the pit’s foundation. However, just enough evidence has been found to keep people digging. Among the biggest discoveries were a set of stone inscriptions found 90 feet below the earth. Symbols on the stones were translated as “forty feet below lie two million pounds.” Even more promising, was the alleged discovery of a few gold pieces. As with many of the discoveries from the pit, the inscriptions and gold themselves disappeared, and have not been seen in over fifty years, thus little modern investigation on them can be done. Researchers have even begun to formulate theories as to where the inscriptions and gold are now, creating yet a new mystery tangent to follow. This of course, is the story of the Money Pit. Each new theory or discovery comes with yet more mystery and controversy and less hard evidence or treasure. Further complicating matters of the pit, excavations have now gone 190 feet into the earth since the late 18th century. In many ways, the expeditions themselves have become a part of the history of Oak Island. It is often difficult to discern what the creators of the pit left and what belonged to treasure hunters, and a stone inscription marked “1701” is even considered by some to be a hoax left by past hunters. Whether the pit is a natural sinkhole, a booby-trapped pit filled with gems, or one of the worlds greatest follies may forever remain a mystery. In 2010, a final treasure hunt was initiated, found nothing, and the government passed the Oak Island Act, banning all commercial treasure hunting on the island. However, in 2011 a new Oak Island Treasure Act invited the hunt to continue, with permission granted from the Minister of Natural Resources. Thanks for listening to Expanded Perspectives. Tragic as this was, this did not deter the line of treasure seekers from that moment until the present day, even though local legend claims the island will take one more life before it will give up its secrets. These are just some of the theories of what could be down in the infamous and mysterious "Money Pit" on Oak Island, Nova Scotia -- thought by many to be one of the greatest archeological mysteries of North America, and possibly the world. Background: In 1795, a young Nova Scotia resident named Daniel McGinnis rows out to Oak Island, not far from the mainland to check out what he thinks are strange green lights floating amongst the non-native oak trees that cover the island. By most accounts, his attention is drawn to a sawed-off limb on a large tree in a clearing, from which a ship's block and tackle are hanging. Directly below the pulley he finds a 12 foot circular depression in the soil, and immediately thinks this must be a location for buried pirate treasure. Even though the boys related the details of their remarkable discovery to friends, neighbors and relatives, they could find no one to help them with their quest, because of local legends and superstitions. The hunt continues to this day, and many tantalizing clues have emerged from the multitude of holes in the ground as well as the island's surface. Theories abound as to what enlightened mind could devise such an ingenious feat of engineering, and what group of dedicated souls sworn to secrecy could carry it out. One thing is certain, some folks went to a lot of trouble to hide something pretty important. If you can't click on these links, visit our website. Oak Island Money Pit. What began in 1795 as a simple discovery of a circular depression in the ground has led, over the years, to many excavations made of the money pit on Oak Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. Coins, chests, a body, & other items of interests have been claimed to have been discovered […] The post Oak Island Money Pit – 105 – Generation Why appeared first on The Generation Why Podcast.
Nova Scotia's Oak Island hides a famously booby-trapped treasure cache -- or so goes the legend. In this episode of the Futility Closet podcast, we review the many attempts to recover the treasure and wonder who could have engineered such a site, what might be hidden there -- and whether, indeed, it contains anything at all. We also puzzle over what a woman's errands can tell us about how her husband died. This mysterious treasure pit on a Nova Scotia island has a fascinating natural explanation.
In this episode, we examine the historical mystery of the Oak Island Money Pit. Is this the site of buried treasure, or an elaborate hoax? Did the pirates of the Caribbean bury a communal bank on this small island in Nova Scotia? Those crazy crusaders that everyone is so obsessed with, the Templars, also make their first appearance on Out There. We're surprised it didn’t happen sooner.
Communications director for the Oak Island Tourism Society, Danny Hennigar, takes us through the Oak Island Money Pit mystery from top to bottom.
